We give a necessary and sufficient condition on parameters for Ariki-Koike algebras (resp. cyclotomic q-Schur algebras) to be of finite representation type.     

Representation of Automata by Groups. II

We obtain necessary and sufficient conditions under which the representation of abstract automata in terms of finite groups is consistent with the transition function of an automaton. We obtain sufficient conditions under which the mapping of a free semigroup of an automaton into a group realized by a component of the representation is a homomorphism.     

Representation type of local and two-vertex bocses

It has been proved by Zhang and Xu that if a bocs is of tame representation type, then the degree of the diffierential of the first solid arrow must be less than or equal to 3. We will prove in the present paper that: The bocs is still wild when the degree of the diffierential of the first arrow is equal to 3. Regular representations of discrete groups

Kaniuth [3] has given necessary and sufficient conditions for the regular representation of a discrete group to be type I or type II. We give a non-measure-theoretic proof of his results, plus additional information on the structure of the W^∗ algebra generated by the regular representation.     

On Polynomial Functions over Finite Commutative Rings

Let R be an arbitrary finite commutative local ring. In this paper, we obtain a necessary and sufficient condition for a function over R to be a polynomial function. Before this paper, necessary and sufficient conditions for a function to be a polynomial function over some special finite commutative local rings were obtained.     

Strong sums of projections in von Neumann factors

This paper presents necessary and sufficient conditions for a positive bounded operator on a separable Hilbert space to be the sum of a finite or infinite collection of projections (not necessarily mutually orthogonal), with the sum converging in the strong operator topology if the collection is infinite. A similar necessary condition is given when the operator and the projections are taken in a type II von Neumann factor, and the condition is proven to be also sufficient if the operator is “diagonalizable”. A simpler necessary and sufficient condition is given in the type III factor case.     

Finite‐dimensional Realizations of Regime‐switching HJM Models

This paper studies Heath–Jarrow–Morton‐type models with regime‐switching stochastic volatility. In this setting the forward rate volatility is allowed to depend on the current forward rate curve as well as on a continuous time Markov chain y with finitely many states. Employing the framework developed by Björk and Svensson we find necessary and sufficient conditions on the volatility guaranteeing the representation of the forward rate process by a finite‐dimensional Markovian state space model. These conditions allow us to investigate regime‐switching generalizations of some well‐known models such as those by Ho–Lee, Hull–White, and Cox–Ingersoll–Ross.     

On the possible dimensions of subspace intersections

A problem concerning the dimensions of the intersections of a subspace in the direct sum of a finite number of the finite-dimensional vector spaces with the pairwise sums of direct summands, provided that the subspace intersection with these direct summands is zero has been discussed. The problem is naturally divided into two ones, namely, the existence and representability of the corresponding matroid. Necessary and sufficient conditions of the existence of a matroid with the specified ranks of some subsets of the base set have been given. Using these conditions, necessary conditions of the existence of a matroid with a base set composed of a finite series of pairwise disjoint sets of the full rank and the given ranks of their pairwise unions have been presented. A simple graphical representation of the latter conditions has also been considered. These conditions are also necessary for the subspace to exist. At the end of the paper, a conjecture that these conditions are sufficient has also been stated.     

On first order interpolation inequalities with weights on the Heisenberg group

In this paper, sufficient and necessary conditions for the first order interpolation inequalities with weights on the Heisenberg group are given. The necessity is discussed by polar coordinates changes of the Heisenberg group. Establishing a class of Hardy type inequalities via a new representation formula for functions and Hardy-Sobolev type inequalities by interpolation, we derive the sufficiency. Finally, sharp constants for Hardy type inequalities are determined.     

Ergodic properties of stationary stable processes

We derive spectral necessary and sufficient conditions for stationary symmetric stable processes to be metrically transitive and mixing. We then consider some important classes of stationary stable processes: Sub-Gaussian stationary processes and stationary stable processes with a harmonic spectral representation are never metrically transitive, the latter in sharp contrast with the Gaussian case. Stable processes with a harmonic spectral representation satisfy a strong law of large numbers even though they are not generally stationary. For doubly stationary stable processes, sufficient conditions are derived for metric transitivity and mixing, and necessary and sufficient conditions for a strong law of large numbers.     

Fourier transform of symmetric gauss measures on the Heisenberg group

An explicit form is derived for the Fourier transform of symmetric Gauss measures on the Heisenberg group at the Schrödinger representation. Using this explicit formula, necessary and sufficient conditions are given for the convolution of two symmetric Gauss measures to be a symmetric Gauss measure and for commutability of two symmetric Gauss measures. Moreover, necessary and sufficient conditions are presented for the convolution of two symmetric Gauss convolution semigroups to be a convolution semigroup.     

Fourier Transform of Symmetric Gauss Measures on the Heisenberg Group

An explicit form is derived for the Fourier transform of symmetric Gauss measures on the Heisenberg group at the Schrödinger representation. On sum and stability of g-frames in Hilbert spaces

In this paper, we give some new results on sum and stability of g-frames in Hilbert spaces. Since the finite sum of g-frames may not be a g-frame for the Hilbert space, we give a necessary and sufficient condition and some sufficient conditions for the finite sum of g-frames to be a g-frame. We also show that every g-sequence in Hilbert space can be expanded to a tight g-frame by adding a linear bounded operator. Moreover, we obtain some sufficient conditions under which g-frames (and the finite sum of g-frames) are stable under small perturbations.     

Weak equivalence for shifts of finite type

We derive a computable set of necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a homomorphism from one shift of finite type to another. Also we consider an equivalence relation on subshifts, called weak equivalence, which was introduced and studied by Beal and Perrin. We classify arbitrary shifts of finite type up to weak equivalence.     

Summability of oscillatory integrals over parameters and the boundedness problem for fourier transforms on curves

We find the exact exponent of summability of the Fourier transform of signed measures concentrated on differentiable curves of finite type. We study the behavior of oscillatory integral operators related to the Fourier transform of signed measures concentrated on curves. We obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for the boundedness of the Fourier transform on smooth curves of finite type.     

Dimensionality of algebras of symmetry classes of tensors

In this paper we give necessary and sufficient conditions for Algebras of Symmetry Classes of Tensors to be finite dimensional.     

Determining whether a finite group of outer automorphisms of a free group is geometric

In this article we give necessary and sufficient conditions for a given finite group of outer automorphisms to be induced by the action of a group of orientation-preserving homeomorphisms on the fundamental group of a punctured surface. When the group is abelian, necessary and sufficient conditions can also be given in the absence of orientability assumptions. These properties are formulated in terms of the finite automorphism groups which project into the given outer automorphism group: each non-trivial automorphism in any such group can fix at most a cyclic subgroup of the fundamental group.     

Second order optimality conditions for bilevel set optimization problems

In this paper, we introduce a new notion of augmenting function known as indicator augmenting function to establish a minmax type duality relation, existence of a path of solution converging to optimal value and a zero duality gap relation for a nonconvex primal problem and the corresponding Lagrangian dual problem. We also obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for an exact penalty representation in the framework of indicator augmented Lagrangian.
