Von Neumann Regular Rings Satisfying Weak Comparability

The notion of weak comparability was first introduced by K.C. O’Meara, to prove that directly finite simple regular rings satisfying weak comparability must be unit-regular. In this paper, we shall treat (non-necessarily simple) regular rings satisfying weak comparability and give some interesting results. We first show that directly finite regular rings satisfying weak comparability are stably finite. Using the result above, we investigate the strict cancellation property and the strict unperforation property for regular rings satisfying weak comparability, and we show that these rings have the strict unperforation property, which means that nA ≺ nB implies A ≺ B for any finitely generated projective modules A, B and any positive integer n.      

Separative cancellation for projective modules over exchange rings

A separative ring is one whose finitely generated projective modules satisfy the propertyA⊕A⋟A⊕B⋟B⊕B⇒A⋟B. This condition is shown to provide a key to a number of outstanding cancellation problems for finitely generated projective modules over exchange rings. It is shown that the class of separative exchange rings is very broad, and, notably, closed under extensions of ideals by factor rings. That is, if an exchange ringR has an idealI withI andR/I both separative, thenR is separative. EXCHANGE MORITA RINGS

In this paper we characterize the largest exchange ideal of a ring R as the set of those elements x ∈ R such that the local ring of R at x is an exchange ring. We use this result to prove that if R and S are two rings for which there is a quasi-acceptable Morita context, then R is an exchange ring if and only if S is an exchange ring, extending an analogue result given previously by Ara and the second and third authors for idempotent rings. We introduce the notion of exchange associative pair and obtain some results connecting the exchange property and the possibility of lifting idempotents modulo left ideals. In particular we obtain that in any exchange ring, orthogonal von Neumann regular elements can be lifted modulo any one-sided ideal.

Separative Ideals,Clean Elements,and Unit-Regularity

ABSTRACT

We prove that an ideal I of a regular ring R is separative if and only if each a ? R satisfying Rr(a)aR = Ra?(a)R = RaR(1 ? a)R ? I is unit-regular. If I is a separative ideal of a regular ring R, then each a ? R satisfying Rar(a²) = ?(a²)aR = R(a ? a²) R ? I is clean. Some applications are also obtained.     

Regular Rings Satisfying Generalized Almost Comparability

We study regular rings satisfying generalized almost comparability. First, we determine the forms of regular rings satisfying generalized almost comparability. Next, using the above result, we treat the strict cancellation property and the strict unperforation property for regular rings satisfying generalized almost comparability.     

Chain homogeneous Souslin algebras

Assuming Jensen's principle ?⁺ we construct Souslin algebras all of whose maximal chains are pairwise isomorphic as total orders, thereby answering questions of Koppelberg and Todor?evi?.     

Cancellation Theorems for Projective Modules over a Two-Dimensional Ring and its Polynomial Extensions

We show that over polynomial extensions of normal affine domains of dimension two over perfect fields (char. 2) of cohomological dimension 1, all finitely generated projective modules are cancellative, thus answering a question of Weibel affirmatively in the case of polynomial extensions.     

On Regular Rings Satisfying Almost Comparability

In this article, we study regular rings satisfying almost comparability. We first show that, for regular rings, almost comparability is inherited by finitely generated projective modules and finite matrix rings, and, as a main result, we prove that the strict cancellation property holds for the family of all finitely generated projective modules over directly finite regular rings satisfying almost comparability.     

Separative Cancellation over Regular Rings

This article develops element-wise characterizations of separative ideals in regular rings. These give connections among separativity, annihilators, cokernels and unit-regularity. For strongly separativity, the analogs are also obtained.

In this paper we study the formal triangular matrix ring T =and give some necessary and sufficient conditions for T to be (strongly) separative, m-fold stable and unit 1-stable. Moreover, a condition for finitely generated projec-tive T-modules to have n in the stable range is given under the assumption that A and B are exchange rings.

On Ideals of Regular Rings

In this paper, we investigate ideals of regular rings and give several characterizations for an ideal to satisfy the comparability. In addition it is shown that, if I is a minimal two-sided ideal of a regular ring R, then I satisfies the comparability if and only if I is separative. Furthermore, we prove that, for ideals with stable range one, Roth's problem has an affirmative solution. These extend the corresponding results on unit-regularity and one-sided unit-regularity. An ensemble of idempotent lifting hypotheses

Lifting idempotents modulo ideals is an important tool in studying the structure of rings. This paper lays out the consequences of lifting other properties modulo ideals, including lifting of von Neumann regular elements, lifting isomorphic idempotents, and lifting conjugate idempotents. Applications are given for IC rings, perspective rings, and Dedekind-finite rings, which improve multiple results in the literature. We give a new characterization of the class of exchange rings; they are rings where regular elements lift modulo all left ideals.We also uncover some hidden connections between these lifting properties. For instance, if regular elements lift modulo an ideal, then so do isomorphic idempotents. The converse is true when units lift. The logical relationships between these and several other important lifting properties are completely characterized. Along the way, multiple examples are developed that illustrate limitations to the theory.
