Let G be a locally compact group of type I and its dual space. Roughly speaking, qualitative uncertainty principles state that the concentration of a nonzero integrable function on G and of its operator-valued Fourier transform on is limited. Such principles have been established for locally compact abelian groups and for compact groups. In this paper we prove generalizations to the considerably larger class of groups with finite dimensional irreducible representations.  相似文献

On the distribution of irreducible algebraic integers   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We study large values of the remainder term in the asymptotic formula for the number of irreducible integers in an algebraic number field K. In the case when the class number h of K is larger than 1, under certain technical condition on multiplicities of non-trivial zeros of Hecke L-functions, we detect oscillations larger than what one could expect on the basis of the classical Littlewood’s omega estimate for the remainder term in the prime number formula. In some cases the main result is unconditional. It is proved that this is always the case when h = 2. Author’s address: Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, Adam Mickiewicz University, ul. We continue in this paper the study of locally minimal groups started in Außenhofer et al. (2010) [4]. The minimality criterion for dense subgroups of compact groups is extended to local minimality. Using this criterion we characterize the compact abelian groups containing dense countable locally minimal subgroups, as well as those containing dense locally minimal subgroups of countable free-rank. We also characterize the compact abelian groups whose torsion part is dense and locally minimal. We call a topological group G almost minimal if it has a closed, minimal normal subgroup N such that the quotient group G/N is uniformly free from small subgroups. The class of almost minimal groups includes all locally compact groups, and is contained in the class of locally minimal groups. On the other hand, we provide examples of countable precompact metrizable locally minimal groups which are not almost minimal. Some other significant properties of this new class are obtained.  相似文献

We consider operators Hμ of convolution with measures μ on locally compact groups. We characterize the spectrum of Hμ by constructing auxiliary operators whose kernel contain the pure point and singular subspaces of Hμ, respectively. The proofs rely on commutator methods.  相似文献

Let be an algebraic number field and be the ring of integers of . Let be a finite group and be a finitely generated torsion free -module. We say that is a globally irreducible -module if, for every maximal ideal of , the -module is irreducible, where stands for the residue field .

Answering a question of Pham Huu Tiep, we prove that the symmetric group does not have non-trivial globally irreducible modules. More precisely we establish that if is a globally irreducible -module, then is an -module of rank with the trivial or sign action of .

Let (R, m) be a Noetherian, one-dimensional, local ring, with |R/m|=∞. We study when its associated graded ring G(m) is Buchsbaum; in particular, we give a theoretical characterization for G(m) to be Buchsbaum not Cohen–Macaulay. Finally, we consider the particular case of R being the semigroup ring associated to a numerical semigroup S: we introduce some invariants of S, and we use them in order to give a necessary and a sufficient condition for G(m) to be Buchsbaum.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to go deeper into the study of local minimality and its connection to some naturally related properties. A Hausdorff topological group (G,τ) is called locally minimal if there exists a neighborhood U of 0 in τ such that U fails to be a neighborhood of zero in any Hausdorff group topology on G which is strictly coarser than τ. Examples of locally minimal groups are all subgroups of Banach-Lie groups, all locally compact groups and all minimal groups. Motivated by the fact that locally compact NSS groups are Lie groups, we study the connection between local minimality and the NSS property, establishing that under certain conditions, locally minimal NSS groups are metrizable. A symmetric subset of an abelian group containing zero is said to be a GTG set if it generates a group topology in an analogous way as convex and symmetric subsets are unit balls for pseudonorms on a vector space. We consider topological groups which have a neighborhood basis at zero consisting of GTG sets. Examples of these locally GTG groups are: locally pseudoconvex spaces, groups uniformly free from small subgroups (UFSS groups) and locally compact abelian groups. The precise relation between these classes of groups is obtained: a topological abelian group is UFSS if and only if it is locally minimal, locally GTG and NSS. We develop a universal construction of GTG sets in arbitrary non-discrete metric abelian groups, that generates a strictly finer non-discrete UFSS topology and we characterize the metrizable abelian groups admitting a strictly finer non-discrete UFSS group topology. Unlike the minimal topologies, the locally minimal ones are always available on “large” groups. To support this line, we prove that a bounded abelian group G admits a non-discrete locally minimal and locally GTG group topology iff |G|?c.  相似文献

The well-known Skitovich-Darmois theorem asserts that a Gaussian distribution is characterized by the independence of two linear forms of independent random variables. The similar result was proved by Heyde, where instead of the independence, the symmetry of the conditional distribution of one linear form given another was considered. In this article we prove that the Heyde theorem on a locally compact Abelian group X remains true if and only if X contains no elements of order two. We describe also all distributions on the two-dimensional torus which are characterized by the symmetry of the conditional distribution of one linear form given another. In so doing we assume that the coefficients of the forms are topological automorphisms of X and the characteristic functions of the considering random variables do not vanish.  相似文献

Let G be an affine algebraic group acting on an affine variety X. We present an algorithm for computing generators of the invariant ring KG[X] in the case where G is reductive. Furthermore, we address the case where G is connected and unipotent, so the invariant ring need not be finitely generated. For this case, we develop an algorithm which computes KG[X] in terms of a so-called colon-operation. From this, generators of KG[X] can be obtained in finite time if it is finitely generated. Under the additional hypothesis that K[X] is factorial, we present an algorithm that finds a quasi-affine variety whose coordinate ring is KG[X]. Along the way, we develop some techniques for dealing with nonfinitely generated algebras. In particular, we introduce the finite generation ideal.  相似文献

In this paper, the naturalness of the appearance of the group approach in the study of problems of algebraic commutation is considered. New, previously unknown solutions are obtained. Special attention is paid to an example of commutation obtained from the icosahedral equation. Translated fromMatematicheskie Zametki, Vol. 61, No. 5, pp. 662–670, May, 1997. Translated by A. I. Let C be a monomial curve in three dimensional projective space over an algebraically closed field K of characteristic zero . We give several necessary criterions for C to be set theoretic complete intersection. Using these criterions we get several restrictions concerning the form of the equations that define C set theoretically.  相似文献

Let be a dominant morphism, where E and B are smooth irreducible complex quasi-projective varieties. Suppose that the general fiber of $f$ is connected. We present an algebro-geometric condition under which the boundary homomorphism is well-defined, and makes the sequence exact. As an application, we calculate the fundamental group of the complement to the dual hypersurface of a smooth projective curve. Received: October 3, 2001  相似文献

It is well known that if two algebraic structures A and B are residually finite then so is their direct product. Here we discuss the converse of this statement. It is of course true if A and B contain idempotents, which covers the case of groups, rings, etc. We prove that the converse also holds for semigroups even though they need not have idempotents. We also exhibit three examples which show that the converse does not hold in general.   相似文献

Summary Given an algebraic equation, in which the polynomial in question is expressed in terms of any set of basis polynomials, we study the sensitivity of the roots with respect to small perturbations in the coefficients of the equation. The degree of sensitivity of each root is measured by an appropriate condition number. We analyze this condition number first in the case where the basis polynomials are the powers, and then, in less detail, in the case where the basis is a set of orthogonal polynomials. Several examples are treated, allowing for a comparative study.Work performed in part at the U.S.A.F.
