Let R be a ring with identity. In this note we study covers of left R-modules by r-injectives left R-modules, where r is a hereditary torsion theory defined in the category of all left R-modules and all R-morphisms. When R is an artinian commutative ring, a complete answer about the existence of such covers for every R-module is given. In case that T is a centrally splitting torsion theory, we can characterize those T for which every left R-module has a T-injective cover. Also we analyze R-modules such that the injective and the T-injective cover are the same. At the end of this note we relate the concepts of colocalization and cover  相似文献

Abstract

Let R be a noetherian ring, and denote the full subcategories of R-modules L such that Exti(E,L)=0 for all injective R-modules E for 1?i?n and O?i?n by Cn, and C′n respectively. Then LεCn, if and only if every injective resolution of L is an injective resolvent of the nth cosyzygy. In this case, L is not injective if and only if its injective dimension is greater than n. If LεC′n and idN?n. then Hom(N,L)=0 for all R-modules N. As an application, let Kn be the nth syzygy of an injective resolvent of the nth cosyzygy of an R-module N, then there exists a homomorphism φ:N → K such that ((φ,iN), Kn ? E(N)) and (φ,Kn) are preenvelopes of N for Cs and C′s respectively, for s≥n. If the global dimension of R is at most 2, then C′1 is reflective in the category of R-modules.  相似文献

This paper is on the subject of residually finite (= RF) modules and rings introduced by Varadarajan [93] and [98/99]. Specifically there are several theorems that simplify proofs and generalize some results of Varadarajan, namely.

Theorem 1. An RF right R-module is finitely bedded (= has finite essential socle iff M is finite.

Corollay. If T is a right RF woth just finitely many simple ringht R-modules, them R is fimite.

Theorem 2. A commutative ring R is residually finite iff every local ring Rm at a maximal ideal m is finite.  相似文献

Let R be a ring and M an R-module. Then M is said to be distributive if the lattice of submodules of M is distributive. We determine the structure of distributive modules, and show that in certain cases a distributive module is either cyclic or is a direct sum of cyclic submodules.  相似文献

Over a commutative ring R with identity, free modules M with 2 distinguished submodules are studied. The category Rep2R of such objects M have the obvious morphisms between them, which are homomorphisms between .R-modules preserving the distinguished submodules. The endo-morphisms for each M constitute a subalgebra EndRM of the algebra EndRM and the readability of λ-generated R-algebras A as EndRM is considered for cardinals λ. Despite the fact that 4 is the minimal number of distinguished submodules for realizing any algebra over a field il, we are able to prove a similar result in Rep2R for many rings R including R = Z and algebras which are cotorsion-free. Several examples illustrate the boarder line of our main result. The main theorem is applied for constructing Butler groups in [11]  相似文献

We generalize a theorem of Bourbaki: Let R be a noetherian ring and M a finitely generated torsionfree R-module with rank r. Assume further M to be free for all ∈ Spec R with depth ? 1. Then there exists a free submodule F in M such that M/F is isomorphic to an ideal in R. There are some applications due to E.G.Evans,Jr. and M. Let R be a commutative ring and let F be a filter of ideals of R. We give three characterizations of the rings with the property that all finitely generated F pretorsion R modules decompose into a direct sum of cyclic R submodules. One of these characterizations involves decomposing the filter F into a product of subfilters. This filter decomposition is shown to be unique, and is used to characterize several other ring properties relative to the filter of ideals.  相似文献

Abstract

For an arbitrary left R-module M, we denote by F(M) the class of left R-modules F such that for any exact sequence 0 → A α→ B of left R-modules and any R-homomorphism β: A → M factoring through F, there exists an R- homomorphism γ: B → M such that β = γα. For any given class R of left R-modules, we denote ∩E?R F(M) by F(R) or simply by 9 if the context is clear. The class of short exact sequences E of left R-modules relative to which each ME'JR has the injective property, is denoted by E(R) or just &. Relative properties of RR, F and E are investigated for a given class R. The special case where JR is the class of all pure-injective left R-modules is explored. In this way the class F of coflat left R-modules is introduced and it is pointed out that a module is coflat if and only if it is absolutely pure.  相似文献

We characterize right Noetherian rings over which all simple modules are almost injective. It is proved that R is such a ring, if and only if, the complements of semisimple submodules of every R-module M are direct summands of M, if and only if, R is a finite direct sum of right ideals Ir, where Ir is either a Noetherian V-module with zero socle, or a simple module, or an injective module of length 2. A commutative Noetherian ring for which all simple modules are almost injective is precisely a finite direct product of rings Ri, where Ri is either a field or a quasi-Frobenius ring of length 2. We show that for commutative rings whose all simple modules are almost injective, the properties of Kasch, (semi)perfect, semilocal, quasi-Frobenius, Artinian, and Noetherian coincide.  相似文献

Summary A module B over a commutative domain R is said to be a Baer module if Ext R 1 (B, T)=0for all torsion R-modules T. The case in which R is an arbitrary valuation domain is investigated, and it is shown that in this case Baer modules are necessarily free. The method employed is totally different from Griffith's method for R=Z which breaks down for non-hereditary rings.This research was partially supported by NSF Grants DMS-8400451 and DMS-8500933.  相似文献

IfR is a right noetherian ring, the decomposition of an injective module, as a direct sum of uniform submodules, is well known. Also, this property characterises this kind of ring. M. L. Teply obtains this result for torsion-free injective modules. The decomposition of injective modules relative to a torsion theory has been studied by S. Mohamed, S. Singh, K. Masaike and T. Horigone. In this paper our aim is to determine those rings satisfying that every torsion-freeτ-injective module is a direct sum ofτ-uniformτ-injective submodules and also to determine those rings with the same property for everyτ-injective module.  相似文献
