We consider an M/M/ model with m primary servers and infinitely many secondary ones. An arriving customer takes a primary server, if one is available. We derive integral representations for the joint steady state distribution of the number of occupied primary and secondary servers. Letting =/ be the ratio of arrival and service rates (all servers work at rate ), we study the joint distribution asymptotically for . We consider both m=O(1) and m scaled to be of the same order as . We also give results for the marginal distribution of the number of secondary servers that are occupied.  相似文献

We consider the M/M/ queue with arrival rate , service rate and traffic intensity =/. We analyze the first passage distribution of the time the number of customers N(t) reaches the level c, starting from N(0)=m>c. If m=c+1 we refer to this time period as the congestion period above the level c. We give detailed asymptotic expansions for the distribution of this first passage time for , various ranges of m and c, and several different time scales. For a cardinal , we say that a subset B of a space X is C -compact in X if for every continuous function is a compact subset of . If B is a C-compact subset of a space X, then (B, X) denotes the degree of C -compactness of B in X. A space X is called -pseudocompact if X is C -compact into itself. For each cardinal , we give an example of an -pseudocompact space X such that X × X is not pseudocompact: this answers a question posed by T. Retta in Some cardinal generalizations of pseudocompactness Czechoslovak Math. J. 43 (1993), 385–390. The boundedness of the product of two bounded subsets is studied in some particular cases. A version of the classical Glicksberg's Theorem on the pseudocompactness of the product of two spaces is given in the context of boundedness. The superstring action in AdS 5×S 5 depends on two parameters: the inverse string tension and the radius R. The standard AdS/CFT correspondence requires that the string action depend on only the combination . After reviewing previous work on the light-cone superstring, we derive the explicit form of the action at =0. Its zero-mode part coincides with the superparticle action in AdS 5×S 5, and the =0 string spectrum, as expected, must therefore include the protected type-IIB supergravity states. Following recent suggestions, we conjecture that such a tensionless string spectrum must also contain higher-spin massless states in AdS 5. We also discuss the case of another parameterization of the string action that admits the straightforward flat-space limit R, but the limits R0 and are not equivalent in this case. The limit R0 then corresponds to shrinking S 5 to the size zero, simultaneously freezing the fluctuations of the radial coordinate of AdS 5. This case results in a nonstandard AdS/CFT correspondence picture.  相似文献

We consider Dyson's hierarchical model on a d-dimensional hierarchical lattice and define a renormalization group (RG) transformation for complex values of d as a map in the space of sequences of coupling constants determining the model Hamiltonian. We show that d=4 is a bifurcation value of this transformation for the RG transformation parameter equal to 1+2/d, and we construct a non-Gaussian RG-invariant Hamiltonian in terms of the (4–d)-expansion. We establish that the (–3/2)- and (4–d)-expansion coefficients for a non-Gaussian fixed point in the dimension d=3 have the same asymptotic representation as the size of the elementary cell tends to infinity, thus confirming that both the expansions describe the same nontrivial fixed point in the dimension three.  相似文献

For a given class T of compact Hausdorff spaces, let Y(T) denote the class of -groups G such that for each gG, the Yosida space Y(g) of g belongs to T. Conversely, if R is a class of ;-groups, then T(R) stands for the class of all spaces which are homeomorphic to a Y(g) for some gGR. The correspondences TY(T) and RT(R) are examined with regard to several closure properties of classes. Several sections are devoted to radical classes of -groups whose Yosida spaces are zero-dimensional. There is a thorough discussion of hyper-projectable -groups, followed by presentations on Y(e.d.), where e.d. denotes the class of compact extremally disconnected spaces, and, for each regular uncountable cardinal , the class Y(disc), where disc stands for the class of all compact -disconnected spaces. Sample results follow. Every strongly projectable -group lies in Y(e.d.). The -group G lies in Y(e.d.) if and only if for each gG Y(g) is zero-dimensional and the Boolean algebra of components of g, comp(g), is complete. Corresponding results hold for Y(disc). Finally, there is a discussion of Y(F), with F standing for the class of compact F-spaces. It is shown that an Archimedean -group G is in Y(F) if and only if, for each pair of disjoint countably generated polars P and Q, G=P +Q .  相似文献

When we apply the affine scaling algorithm to a linear program, we usually construct an artificial linear program having an interior feasible solution from which the algorithm starts. The artificial linear program involves a positive number called the big. Theoretically, there exists an * such that the original problem to be solved is equivalent to the artificial linear program if > *. Practically, however, such an * is unknown and a safe estimate of is often too large. This paper proposes a method of updating to a suitable value during the iteration of the affine scaling algorithm. We study (set-valued) mappings of bounded -variation defined on the compact interval I and taking values in metric or normed linear spaces X. We prove a new structural theorem for these mappings and extend Medvedev's criterion from real valued functions onto mappings with values in a reflexive Banach space, which permits us to establish an explicit integral formula for the -variation of a metric space valued mapping. We show that the linear span GV (I;X) of the set of all mappings of bounded -variation is automatically a Banach algebra provided X is a Banach algebra. If h:I× X Y is a given mapping and the composition operator is defined by (f)(t)=h(t,f(t)), where tI and f:I X, we show that :GV (I;X) GV (I;Y) is Lipschitzian if and only if h(t,x)=h0(t)+h1(t)x, tI, xX. This result is further extended to multivalued composition operators with values compact convex sets. We prove that any (not necessarily convex valued) multifunction of bounded -variation with respect to the Hausdorff metric, whose graph is compact, admits regular selections of bounded -variation.  相似文献

We study (finite) coproducts and colimits of -chains in Rel(C), the 2-category of relations over a given category C. The former exist and are the same as in C provided that C is extensive. The latter do not exist for example in Rel(Set). However, the canonical construction of those colimits in the category of sets can be generalized to Rel(Set). The canonical cocone is shown to satisfy a 2-categorical universal property, namely that of an lax adjoint cooplimit. Sufficient conditions for any base category C to admit the construction are given.A necessary and sufficient condition for the construction to yield colimits of -chains in the category of maps of Rel(C) is also given.  相似文献
