Let G be a finite group. If Mn< Mn?1< · · · < M1< M0 = G with Mi a maximal subgroup of Mi?1 for all i = 1,..., n, then Mn (n > 0) is an n-maximal subgroup of G. A subgroup M of G is called modular provided that (i) 〈X,MZ〉 = 〈X,M〉 ∩ Z for all XG and ZG such that XZ, and (ii) 〈M,YZ〉 = 〈M,Y 〉 ∩ Z for all YG and ZG such that MZ. In this paper, we study finite groups whose n-maximal subgroups are modular.  相似文献

Let G be an abelian group of order n. The sum of subsets A1,...,Ak of G is defined as the collection of all sums of k elements from A1,...,Ak; i.e., A1 + A2 + · · · + Ak = {a1 + · · · + ak | a1A1,..., akAk}. A subset representable as the sum of k subsets of G is a k-sumset. We consider the problem of the number of k-sumsets in an abelian group G. It is obvious that each subset A in G is a k-sumset since A is representable as A = A1 + · · · + Ak, where A1 = A and A2 = · · · = Ak = {0}. Thus, the number of k-sumsets is equal to the number of all subsets of G. But, if we introduce a constraint on the size of the summands A1,...,Ak then the number of k-sumsets becomes substantially smaller. A lower and upper asymptotic bounds of the number of k-sumsets in abelian groups are obtained provided that there exists a summand Ai such that |Ai| = n logqn and |A1 +· · ·+ Ai-1 + Ai+1 + · · ·+Ak| = n logqn, where q = -1/8 and i ∈ {1,..., k}.  相似文献

The nonsoluble length λ(G) of a finite group G is defined as the minimum number of nonsoluble factors in a normal series of G each of whose quotients either is soluble or is a direct product of nonabelian simple groups. The generalized Fitting height of a finite group G is the least number h = h* (G) such that F* h (G) = G, where F* 1 (G) = F* (G) is the generalized Fitting subgroup, and F* i+1(G) is the inverse image of F* (G/F*i (G)). In the present paper we prove that if λ(J) ≤ k for every 2-generator subgroup J of G, then λ(G) ≤ k. It is conjectured that if h* (J) ≤ k for every 2-generator subgroup J, then h* (G) ≤ k. We prove that if h* (〈x, xg 〉) ≤ k for allx, gG such that 〈x, xg 〉 is soluble, then h* (G) is k-bounded.  相似文献

Let A be a complex Banach algebra. It is well known that the second dual A** of A can be equipped with a multiplication that extends the original multiplication on A and makes A** a Banach algebra. We show that Rad(A) = (A * · A) and Rad(A **) = (A * · A) for some classes of Banach algebras A with scattered structure space. Some applications of these results are given.  相似文献

Let D be an arbitrary skew field and K a central subfield of D. We prove that D can be embedded in a skew field Δ such that w(Δ)=Δ for every nonempty Lie word w on a set of variables y1,y2,.?.?. with coefficients in K; moreover, we have for the multiplicative group Δ* that v*)=Δ* for every nonempty word \(v=x_{1}^{\varepsilon_{1}}x_{2}^{\varepsilon_{2}}\ldots x_{n}^{\varepsilon_{n}}\) (?i=±1; i=1,2,.?.?.,n).  相似文献

In the present paper, we consider word maps w: G m G and word maps with constants w Σ: G m G of a simple algebraic group G, where w is a nontrivial word in the free group F m of rank m, w Σ = w 1 σ 1 w 2 ··· w r σ r w r + 1, w 1, …, w r + 1F m , w 2, …, w r ≠ 1, Σ = {σ 1, …, σ r | σ i G Z(G)}. We present results on the images of such maps, in particular, we prove a theorem on the dominance of “general” word maps with constants, which can be viewed as an analogue of a well-known theorem of Borel on the dominance of genuine word maps. Besides, we establish a relationship between the existence of unipotents in the image of a word map and the structure of the representation variety Rw, G) of the group Γw = F m /<w>.  相似文献

Let G be a simple algebraic group of adjoint type over the field \(\mathbb {C}\) of complex numbers. Let B be a Borel subgroup of G containing a maximal torus T of G. Let w be an element of the Weyl group W and let X(w) be the Schubert variety in G/B corresponding to w. Let α 0 denote the highest root of G with respect to T and B. Let P be the stabiliser of X(w) in G. In this paper, we prove that if G is simply laced and X(w) is smooth, then the connected component of the automorphism group of X(w) containing the identity automorphism equals P if and only if w ?1(α 0) is a negative root (see Theorem 4.2). We prove a partial result in the non simply laced case (see Theorem 6.6).  相似文献

Let ? be a trace on the unital C*-algebra A and M ? be the ideal of the definition of the trace ?. We obtain a C*analogue of the quantum Hall effect: if P,QA are idempotents and P ? QM ? , then ?((P ? Q)2n+1) = ?(P ? Q) ∈ R for all nN. Let the isometries UA and A = A*∈ A be such that I+A is invertible and U-AM ? with ?(U-A) ∈ R. Then I-A, I?UM ? and ?(I?U) ∈ R. Let nN, dimH = 2n + 1, the symmetry operators U, VB(H), and W = U ? V. Then the operator W is not a symmetry, and if V = V*, then the operator W is nonunitary.  相似文献

Denote 〈x|d n = x(x + d)(x + 2d) · · · (x + (n - 1)d) for n = 1, 2, · · ·, and 〈x|d0 = 1, where 〈x|d n is called the generalized factorial of x with increment d. In this paper, we present the evaluation of Hankel determinants of sequence of generalized factorials. The main tool used for the evaluation is the method based on exponential Riordan arrays. Furthermore, we provide Hankel determinant evaluations of the Eulerian polynomials and exponential polynomials.  相似文献

Suppose that M is a von Neumann algebra of operators on a Hilbert space H and τ is a faithful normal semifinite trace on M. Let E, F and G be ideal spaces on (M, τ). We find when a τ-measurable operator X belongs to E in terms of the idempotent P of M. The sets E+F and E·F are also ideal spaces on (M, τ); moreover, E·F = F·E and (E+FG = E·G+F·G. The structure of ideal spaces is modular. We establish some new properties of the L1(M, τ) space of integrable operators affiliated to the algebra M. The results are new even for the *-algebra M = B(H) of all bounded linear operators on H which is endowed with the canonical trace τ = tr.  相似文献

Let G be a countable group that splits as a free product of groups of the form G = G 1 *···* G k * F N , where F N is a finitely generated free group. We identify the closure of the outer space PO(G, {G 1,..., G k }) for the axes topology with the space of projective minimal, very small (G, {G 1,..., G k })-trees, i.e. trees whose arc stabilizers are either trivial, or cyclic, closed under taking roots, and not conjugate into any of the G i ’s, and whose tripod stabilizers are trivial. Its topological dimension is equal to 3N + 2k ? 4, and the boundary has dimension 3N + 2k ? 5. We also prove that any very small (G, {G 1,..., G k })-tree has at most 2N + 2k?2 orbits of branch points.  相似文献

Eight hundred and sixteen nuclear interactions produced by 4·4 GeVπ ?-mesons in nuclear emulsion have been obtained by “along the track” scanning procedure. Favourable secondary particles from a selected 290π ?-N (pion-nucleon) collisions have been identified by blob-density and multiple scattering measurements. It is found that the pion often persists in theseπ ?-N collisions, the average persistence is estimated to be 0·24 per collision. It is estimated thatπ-N andπ-π collisions account for 60% and 28% respectively of the secondary particles. The average number of charged shower particles is 〈n s〉=2·09±0·12, the average number of created charged particles is 〈n e±〉=1·94±0·12, the average number of protons with energy greater than 300 MeV is 〈n p〉=0·15±0·05 and the average number of charged kaons is found to be 〈n k±〉=0·11±0·06. The integral energy spectra of pions in C-system as well as in L-system are well represented by exponential forms. The average inelasticity of the proton in C-system is found to be 0·52±0·10. The charge retention probability for protons inπ ?-p collisions is 0·45±0·07.  相似文献

Suppose that G is a finite group and K is a non-trivial conjugacy class of G such that KK?1 = 1 ∪ DD?1 with D a conjugacy class of G. We prove that G is not a non-abelian simple group and we give arithmetical conditions on the class sizes determining the solvability and the structure of 〈K〉 and 〈D〉.  相似文献

Let G be a finite group and let ω(G) denote the set of the element orders of G. For the simple group PSL5(5) we prove that if G is a finite group with ω(G) = ω(PSL5(5)), then either G ? PSL5(5) or G ? PSL5(5): 〈θ〉 where θ is a graph automorphism of PSL5(5) of order 2.  相似文献

Classical Clifford theory studies the decomposition of simple G-modules into simple H-modules for some normal subgroup H ? G. In this paper we deal with chains of normal subgroups 1?G 1?· · ·?G d = G, which allow to consider fragments and in particular glider representations. These are given by a descending chain of vector spaces over some field K and relate different representations of the groups appearing in the chain. Picking some normal subgroup H ? G one obtains a normal subchain and one can construct an induced fragment structure. Moreover, a notion of irreducibility of fragments is introduced, which completes the list of ingredients to perform a Clifford theory.  相似文献

Let G be a connected real reductive group with maximal compact subgroup K of the same rank as G. Dirac cohomology of an A_q(λ) module can be identified with a geometric object—the k-dominant part of a face of the convex hull of the Weyl group orbit of the parameter λ + ρ. We show how Dirac cohomology can be used as a parameter to classify the A_q(λ) modules.  相似文献

Let T be an operator tuple in the Cowen–Douglas class B n (Ω) for Ω ? C m . The kernels Ker(T ? w) l , for w ∈ Ω, l = 1, 2, ···, define Hermitian vector bundles E T l over Ω. We prove certain negativity of the curvature of E T l . We also study the relation between certain curvature inequality and the contractive property of T when Ω is a planar domain.  相似文献

Let N stand for the class of nilpotent groups or one of its well-known generalizations. For a multilinear commutator word w and a profinite group G we show that w(G) is finite-by-N if and only if the set of wvalues in G is covered by countably many finite-by-N subgroups. Earlier this was known only in the case where w = x or w = [x, y].  相似文献

Let A be a k-algebra and G be a group acting on A. We show that G also acts on the Hochschild cohomology algebra HH (A) and that there is a monomorphism of rings HH (A) G HH (A[G]). That allows us to show the existence of a monomorphism from HH (Ã) G into HH (A), where à is a Galois covering with group G.  相似文献

A subgroup H of a group G is called µ-supplemented in G if there exists a subgroup K such that G = HK and H 1 K is a proper subgroup in G for every maximal subgroup H 1 in H. For the initial values of p, we establish the p-supersolubility of a finite group with a μ-supplemented Sylow p-subgroup.  相似文献
