Data from e+e annihilations at 29 GeV have been used to measure the production cross section and fragmentation function of η mesons. The signal is observed in the ηγγ decay channel. The fragmentation for pη>1.5 GeV/c agrees well with the prediction of the Lund model, whereas the prediction of the Webber model lies above the data. The mean multiplicity is measured to be 〈nη〉=0.58±0.10 η mesons per hadronic event, of which 0.51 represents the direct production of η and η′ mesons in the fragmentation chain.  相似文献

Neutral D1 meson production in e+e annihilation at √s=29 GeV has been studied using the high resolution spectrometer. The decay of D10 into D0γ, where the D0 decays into K−π+, has been observed. The production cross section in units of the point cross section is 0.63±0.22 for fractional energy Z⩾0.5. The production of D* and D mesons has been studied in e+e annihilations at √s = 29GeV. The data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 300 pb−1, were obtained using the HRS detector at PEP. The cross section is measured to be R (D0 + D+) = 2.40±0.35 and we determine the electroweak asymmetry to be −9.9 ± 2.7%, which corresponds to an axial vector coupling constant product gegc = 0.26 ± 0.07.  相似文献

A method of improving perturbation theory in QCD is developed which can be applied to any polarization operator. The case of the polarization operator Π(q 2), corresponding to the process e + e → hadrons, is considered in detail. By the use of the analytical properties of Π(q 2) and a perturbation expansion of Π(q 2) for q 2<0, the function ImΠ(q 2) at q 2>0 is defined in such a way that the infrared pole is eliminated. The convergence of the perturbation series for R(q 2)=σ(e + e →hadrons)/(e + e μ + μ ) is improved. After substitution of R(q 2) into the dispersion relation an improved Adler function D(q 2) is obtained, having no infrared pole and a frozen α s (q 2). Good agreement with experiment is achieved. We study the pattern of soft parton radiation in the hard annihilation processes \(e^ + e^ - \to q\bar q\gamma \) and \(e^ + e^ - \to q\bar qg\) by explicit evaluation of the cross sections for \(e^ + e^ - \to q\bar q\gamma g\) and \(e^ + e^ - \to q\bar qgg + q\bar qq\bar q\) taken care of correct normalization. We find the coherence effects as observed experimentally and discuss why these effects are not present in the usual models based onO s 2 ) perturbation theory with subsequent independent fragmentation.  相似文献

We revise the μ+μ? and $q\bar q$ annihilation mechanisms of dilepton production during relativistic nuclear collisions. We focus on the modifications caused by the specific features of in-medium pion and quark states rather than by medium modification of the ρ-meson spectral density. The main ingreditent emerging in our approach is a form-factor of the multi-pion (multi-quark) system. Replacing the usual delta-function the form-factor plays the role of distribution which, in some sense, “connects” the total 4-momenta of the annihilating and outgoing particles. The difference between the c.m.s. velocities attributed to annihilating and outgoing particles is a particular consequence of this replacement and results in the appearance of a new factor in the formula for the lepton pair production rate. We obtained that the form-factor of the multi-pion (multi-quark) system causes broadening of the rate which is most pronounced for small invariant masses, in particular, we obtain a growth of the rate for the invariant masses below two masses of the annihilating particles.  相似文献

Polarized and unpolarizede + e ? annihilation is considered in lowest order at energies 30–150 GeV taking γ andZ 0 exchange in the standardSU(2)×U(1) model into account. The fragmentation of polarized quarks into polarized baryons is described by two kinds of fragmentation functions; the first is based onSU(6) weights and empirical expressions for favoured and disfavoured fragmentation; the second is based upon a Monte Carlo model of the chain decay including helicities of quarks and hadrons. From the cross sections for \(e^ + e^ - \to q\bar q\) and the fragmentation functions we obtain predictions for the baryon polarization as function of the collision energy and of kinematical variables.  相似文献

We calculate heavy (M H 2 /s) and light (M L 2 /s) jet masses up toO s 2 ) in perturbative Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD). The sensitivity of these quantities to radiative corrections, quark masses, fragmentation effects as well as their infrared stability properties, are investigated and compared to those exhibited by other jet measures.
