Decompositions of the 3-uniform hypergraphs K(3)v into hypergraphs of a certain type

In this paper, we investigate a generalization of graph decomposition, called hypergraph decomposition. We show that a decomposition of a 3-uniform hypergraph K(3)v into a special kind of hypergraph K(3)4 - e exists if and only if v ≡ 0, 1, 2 (mod 9) and v ≥ 9.     

Polyhedral <Emphasis Type="Italic">K</Emphasis><Subscript><Emphasis Type="Italic">2</Emphasis></Subscript>

 Using elementary graded automorphisms of polytopal algebras (essentially the coordinate rings of projective toric varieties) polyhedral versions of the group of elementary matrices and the Steinberg and Milnor groups are defined. They coincide with the usual K-theoretic groups in the special case when the polytope is a unit simplex and can be thought of as compact/polytopal substitutes for the tame automorphism groups of polynomial algebras. Relative to the classical case, many new aspects have to be taken into account. We describe these groups explicitly when the underlying polytope is 2-dimensional. Already this low-dimensional case provides interesting classes of groups. Eigenvectors of the Baxter-Bazhanov-Stroganov τ<Superscript>(2)</Superscript>(<Emphasis Type="Italic">t</Emphasis><Subscript><Emphasis Type="Italic">q</Emphasis></Subscript>) model with fixed-spin boundary conditions

We give explicit formulas for the eigenvectors of the transfer matrix of the Baxter-Bazhanov-Stroganov (BBS) model (N-state spin model) with fixed-spin boundary conditions. We obtain these formulas from the formulas for the eigenvectors of the periodic BBS model by a limit procedure. The latter formulas were derived in the framework of Sklyanin’s method of separation of variables. In the case of fixed-spin boundaries, we solve the corresponding T-Q Baxter equations for the functions of separated variables explicitly. Littlewood–Paley theorem on spaces <Emphasis Type="Italic">L</Emphasis><Superscript><Emphasis Type="Italic">p</Emphasis>(<Emphasis Type="Italic">t</Emphasis>)</Superscript>(ℝ<Superscript><Emphasis Type="Italic">n</Emphasis></Superscript>)

We point out that if the Hardy–Littlewood maximal operator is bounded on the space L ^p(t)(ℝ), 1 < a ≤ p(t) ≤ b < ∞, t ∈ ℝ, then the well-known characterization of the spaces L ^p (ℝ), 1 < p < ∞, by the Littlewood–Paley theory extends to the space L ^p(t)(ℝ). We show that, for n > 1 , the Littlewood–Paley operator is bounded on L ^p(t) (ℝ ⁿ ), 1 < a ≤ p(t) ≤ b < ∞, t ∈ ℝ ⁿ , if and only if p(t) = const. On the value distribution of <Emphasis Type="Italic">ƒ</Emphasis> + <Emphasis Type="Italic">a</Emphasis>(<Emphasis Type="Italic">ƒ</Emphasis>′)<Superscript><Emphasis Type="Italic">n</Emphasis></Superscript>

Let ƒ be a transcendental meromorphic function, a a nonzero finite complex number, and n ⩾ 2 a positive integer. Then ƒ + a(ƒ′) ⁿ assumes every complex value infinitely often. This answers a question of Ye for n = 2. A related normality criterion is also given. On the ideal (<Emphasis Type="Italic">v</Emphasis><Superscript>0</Superscript>)

The σ-ideal (v ⁰) is associated with the Silver forcing, see [5]. Also, it constitutes the family of all completely doughnut null sets, see [9]. We introduce segment topologies to state some resemblances of (v ⁰) to the family of Ramsey null sets. To describe add(v ⁰) we adopt a proof of Base Matrix Lemma. Consistent results are stated, too. Halbeisen’s conjecture cov(v ⁰) = add(v ⁰) is confirmed under the hypothesis t = min{cf(c), r}. The hypothesis cov(v ⁰) = ω ₁ implies that (v ⁰) has the ideal type (c, ω ₁, c).      

SUPPORT SIZES OF COMPLETELY DECOMPOSABLE TS （ν, 4）

In this article the spectrum of support sizes of a completely decomposable TS(ν,,4)for any positive integer ν≡1,3 (mod 6) is determined.     

<Emphasis Type="Italic">K</Emphasis><Subscript><Emphasis Type="Italic">n</Emphasis></Subscript>-nearest neighbor estimators of entropy

For estimating the entropy of an absolutely continuous multivariate distribution, we propose nonparametric estimators based on the Euclidean distances between the n sample points and their k _n -nearest neighbors, where {k _n : n = 1, 2, …} is a sequence of positive integers varying with n. The proposed estimators are shown to be asymptotically unbiased and consistent.      

Finite presentability of <Emphasis Type="Italic">SL</Emphasis><Subscript>1</Subscript>(<Emphasis Type="Italic">D</Emphasis>)

Let D be a finite dimensional division algebra over a local field of characteristic p and let SL ₁(D) denote the group of elements of reduced norm 1 in D. In this paper we prove that SL ₁(D) is finitely presented as a profinite group. This work is part of the author’s Ph.D. Thesis at Yale University.     

The <Emphasis Type="Italic">p</Emphasis>-rank of Ext<Subscript>ℤ</Subscript>(<Emphasis Type="Italic">G</Emphasis>, ℤ) in certain models of <Emphasis Type="Italic">ZFC</Emphasis>

We prove that if the existence of a supercompact cardinal is consistent with ZFC, then it is consistent with ZFC that the p-rank of Ext _ℤ(G, ℤ) is as large as possible for every prime p and for any torsion-free Abelian group G. Moreover, given an uncountable strong limit cardinal μ of countable cofinality and a partition of Π (the set of primes) into two disjoint subsets Π₀ and Π₁, we show that in some model which is very close to ZFC, there is an almost free Abelian group G of size 2^μ = μ⁺ such that the p-rank of Ext _ℤ(G, ℤ) equals 2^μ = μ⁺ for every p ∈ Π₀ and 0 otherwise, that is, for p ∈ Π₁. Recognizability of finite simple groups <Emphasis Type="Italic">L</Emphasis><Subscript>4</Subscript>(2<Superscript>m</Superscript>) and <Emphasis Type="Italic">U</Emphasis><Subscript>4</Subscript>(2<Superscript>m</Superscript>) by spectrum

It is proved that finite simple groups L₄(2^m), m ⩾ 2, and U₄(2^m), m ⩾ 2, are, up to isomorphism, recognized by spectra, i.e., sets of their element orders, in the class of finite groups. As a consequence the question on recognizability by spectrum is settled for all finite simple groups without elements of order 8. A New Inequality for Weakly （K1, K2）-Quasiregular Mappings

We obtain a new inequality for weakly （K1,K2）-quasiregular mappings by using the McShane extension method. This inequality can be used to derive the self-improving regularity of （K1, K2）-Quasiregular Mappings.     

Constructions for generalized Steiner systems <Emphasis Type="Italic">GS</Emphasis>(3, 4, <Emphasis Type="Italic">v</Emphasis>, 2)

Generalized Steiner systems GS (3, 4, v, 2) were first discussed by Etzion and used to construct optimal constant weight codes over an alphabet of size three with minimum Hamming distance three, in which each codeword has length v and weight four. Not much is known for GS (3, 4, v, 2)s except for a recursive construction and two small designs for v = 8,10 given by Etzion. In this paper, more small designs are found by computer search and also given are direct constructions based on finite fields and rotational Steiner quadruple systems and recursive constructions using three-wise balanced designs. Some infinite families are also obtained.      

3-Selmer groups for curves <Emphasis Type="Italic">y</Emphasis><Superscript>2</Superscript> = <Emphasis Type="Italic">x</Emphasis><Superscript>3</Superscript> + <Emphasis Type="Italic">a</Emphasis>

We explicitly perform some steps of a 3-descent algorithm for the curves y ² = x ³ + a, a a nonzero integer. In general this will enable us to bound the order of the 3-Selmer group of such curves.
