We consider an inverse boundary value problem for the heat equation ? t u = div (γ? x u) in (0, T) × Ω, u = f on (0, T) × ?Ω, u| t=0 = u 0, in a bounded domain Ω ? ? n , n ≥ 2, where the heat conductivity γ(t, x) is piecewise constant and the surface of discontinuity depends on time: γ(t, x) = k 2 (x ∈ D(t)), γ(t, x) = 1 (x ∈ Ω?D(t)). Fix a direction e* ∈ 𝕊 n?1 arbitrarily. Assuming that ?D(t) is strictly convex for 0 ≤ t ≤ T, we show that k and sup {ex; x ∈ D(t)} (0 ≤ t ≤ T), in particular D(t) itself, are determined from the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map : f → ?ν u(t, x)|(0, T)×?Ω. The knowledge of the initial data u 0 is not used in the proof. If we know min0≤tT (sup xD(t) x·e*), we have the same conclusion from the local Dirichlet-to-Neumann map. Numerical examples of stationary and moving circles inside the unit disk are shown. The results have applications to nondestructive testing. Consider a physical body consisting of homogeneous material with constant heat conductivity except for a moving inclusion with different conductivity. Then the location and shape of the inclusion can be monitored from temperature and heat flux measurements performed at the boundary of the body. Such a situation appears for example in blast furnaces used in ironmaking.  相似文献

In this paper, the motion of surface by its mean curvature and a forcing term θ was studied. We show that to each uniformly convex bounded initial surface M 0, there exists a unique θ * such that the surface shrinks or expands depending on whether θθ * or θ > θ *. Also, we show that the surface with θθ * converges to a limiting surface.  相似文献

We study bifurcations from radial solution of a free boundary problem modeling the dormant state of nonnecrotic solid tumors in the presence of external inhibitors. This problem consists in three linear elliptic equations with two Dirichlet and one Neumann boundary conditions and a fourth boundary condition coupling surface tension effects on free boundary. In this paper, surface tension coefficient γ plays the role of bifurcation parameter. We prove that in certain situations there exists a positive null point sequence for γ where bifurcation occurs from radial solution, while in the other situations, either bifurcation occurs at only finite many points of γ or even it does not occur for any γ > 0. In this paper we study asymptotic behavior of solutions for a free boundary problem modelling tumor growth. We first establish a general result for differential equations in Banach spaces possessing a Lie group action which maps a solution into new solutions. We prove that a center manifold exists under certain assumptions on the spectrum of the linearized operator without assuming that the space in which the equation is defined is of either DA(θ) or DA(θ,∞) type. By using this general result and making delicate analysis of the spectrum of the linearization of the stationary free boundary problem, we prove that if the surface tension coefficient γ is larger than a threshold value γ* then the unique stationary solution is asymptotically stable modulo translations, provided the constant c is sufficiently small, whereas if γ<γ* then this stationary solution is unstable.  相似文献

Abstract

Let Ω be a bounded Lipschitz domain in ? n , n ≥ 3 with connected boundary. We study the Robin boundary condition ?u/?N + bu = f ∈ L p (?Ω) on ?Ω for Laplace's equation Δu = 0 in Ω, where b is a non-negative function on ?Ω. For 1 < p < 2 + ?, under suitable compatibility conditions on b, we obtain existence and uniqueness results with non-tangential maximal function estimate ‖(?u)*‖ p  ≤ Cf p , as well as a pointwise estimate for the associated Robin function. Moreover, the solution u is represented by a single layer potential.  相似文献

Two problems that appear in the linearization of certain free boundary value problems of the hydrodynamics of two viscous fluids are studied in the strip‐like domain Π = {x = (x1, x2) ∈ ℝ2 : x1 ∈ ℝ1, (0 < x2 < h*) ∨ (h* < x2 < 1)}. The first problem arises in the linearization of a two‐layer flow down a geometrically perturbed inclined plane. The second one appears after the linearization of a two‐layer flow in a geometrically perturbed inclined channel with one moving (smooth) wall. For this purpose the unknown flow domain was mapped onto the double strip Π. The arising linear elliptic problems contain additional unknown functions in the boundary conditions. The paper is devoted to the investigation of these boundary problems by studying the asymptotics of the eigenvalues of corresponding operator pencils. It can be proved that the boundary value problems are uniquely solvable in weighted Sobolev spaces with exponential weight. The study of the full (nonlinear) free boundary value problems will be the topic of a forthcoming paper.  相似文献

Let m = (m0, m1, m2, n) be an almost arithmetic sequence, i.e., a sequence of positive integers with gcd(m0, m1, m2, n) = 1, such that m0 < m1 < m2 form an arithmetic progression, n is arbitrary and they minimally generate the numerical semigroup Γ =m0? +m1? +m2? +n?. Let k be a field. The homogeneous coordinate ring k[Γ] of the affine monomial curve parametrically defined by X0 = tm0, X1 = tm1, X2 = tm2, Y = tn is a graded R-module, where R is the polynomial ring k[X0, X1, X2, Y] with the grading degXi: = mi, degY: = n. In this paper, we construct a minimal graded free resolution for k[Γ].  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the study of the large-time behavior of the solutions u of a class of one-dimensional reaction–diffusion equations with monostable reaction terms f, including in particular the classical Fisher-KPP nonlinearities. The nonnegative initial data u 0(x) are chiefly assumed to be exponentially bounded as x tends to + ∞ and separated away from the unstable steady state 0 as x tends to ? ∞. On the one hand, we give some conditions on u 0 which guarantee that, for some λ > 0, the quantity c λ = λ +f′(0)/λ is the asymptotic spreading speed, in the sense that lim  t→+∞ u(t, ct) = 1 (the stable steady state) if c < c λ and lim  t→+∞ u(t, ct) = 0 if c > c λ. These conditions are fulfilled in particular when u 0(xe λx is asymptotically periodic as x → + ∞. On the other hand, we also construct examples where the spreading speed is not uniquely determined. Namely, we show the existence of classes of initial conditions u 0 for which the ω-limit set of u(t, ct + x) as t tends to + ∞ is equal to the whole interval [0, 1] for all x ∈ ? and for all speeds c belonging to a given interval (γ1, γ2) with large enough γ1 < γ2 ≤ + ∞.  相似文献

We study the creation and propagation of exponential moments of solutions to the spatially homogeneous d-dimensional Boltzmann equation. In particular, when the collision kernel is of the form |v ? v *|β b(cos (θ)) for β ∈ (0, 2] with cos (θ) = |v ? v *|?1(v ? v *)·σ and σ ∈ 𝕊 d?1, and assuming the classical cut-off condition b(cos (θ)) integrable in 𝕊 d?1, we prove that there exists a > 0 such that moments with weight exp (amin {t, 1}|v|β) are finite for t > 0, where a only depends on the collision kernel and the initial mass and energy. We propose a novel method of proof based on a single differential inequality for the exponential moment with time-dependent coefficients.  相似文献

We consider a nonlinear Neumann logistic equation driven by the p-Laplacian with a general Carathéodory superdiffusive reaction. We are looking for positive solutions of such problems. Using minimax methods from critical point theory together with suitable truncation techniques, we show that the equation exhibits a bifurcation phenomenon with respect to the parameter λ > 0. Namely, we show that there is a λ* > 0 such that for λ < λ*, the problem has no positive solution; for λ = λ*, it has at least one positive solution; and for λ > λ*, it has at least two positive solutions.  相似文献

Let D be an integral domain and * a star-operation on D. For a nonzero ideal I of D, let I * f = ?{J* | (0) ≠ J ? I is finitely generated} and I * w = ? P∈* f -Max(D) ID P . A nonzero ideal I of D is called a *-cancellation ideal if (IA)* = (IB)* for nonzero ideals A and B of D implies A* =B*. Let X be an indeterminate over D and N * = {fD[X] | (c(f))* =D}. We show that I is a * w -cancellation ideal if and only if I is * f -locally principal, if and only if ID[X] N * is a cancellation ideal. As a corollary, we have that each nonzero ideal of D is a * w -cancellation ideal if and only if D P is a principal ideal domain for all P ∈ * f -Max(D), if and only if D[X] N * is an almost Dedekind domain. We also show that if I is a * w -cancellation ideal of D, then I * w  = I * f  = I t , and I is * w -invertible if and only if I * w  = J v for a nonzero finitely generated ideal J of D.  相似文献

Summary. We study the 2D Ising model in a rectangular box Λ L of linear size O(L). We determine the exact asymptotic behaviour of the large deviations of the magnetization ∑ t∈ΛL σ(t) when L→∞ for values of the parameters of the model corresponding to the phase coexistence region, where the order parameter m * is strictly positive. We study in particular boundary effects due to an arbitrary real-valued boundary magnetic field. Using the self-duality of the model a large part of the analysis consists in deriving properties of the covariance function <σ(0)σ(t)>, as |t|→∞, at dual values of the parameters of the model. To do this analysis we establish new results about the high-temperature representation of the model. These results are valid for dimensions D≥2 and up to the critical temperature. They give a complete non-perturbative exposition of the high-temperature representation. We then study the Gibbs measure conditioned by {|∑ t∈ΛL σ(t) −m L ||≤|Λ L |L c }, with 0<c<1/4 and −m *<m<m *. We construct the continuum limit of the model and describe the limit by the solutions of a variational problem of isoperimetric type. We define a universal star operation to be an assignment *: A ? * A of a star operation * A on A to every integral domain A. Prime examples of universal star operations include the divisorial closure star operation v, the t-closure star operation t, and the star operation w = F of Hedstrom and Houston. For any universal star operation *, we say that an extension B ? A of integral domains is *-ideal class linked if there is a group homomorphism Cl* A (A) → Cl* B (B) of star class groups induced by the map I ? (IB)* B on the set of * A -ideals I of A. We study several natural subclasses of the class of *-ideal class linked extensions.  相似文献

LetX be any compact convex subset of a locally convex Hausdorff space andE be a complex Banach space. We denote byA(X, E) the space of all continuous and affineE-valued functions defined onX. In this paper we prove thatX is a Choquet simplex if and only if the dual ofA(X, E) is isometrically isomorphic by a selection map toM m (X, E*), the space ofE*-valued,w*-regular boundary measures onX. This extends and strengthens a result of G. M. Ustinov. To do this we show that for any compact convex setX, each element of the dual ofA(X, E) can be represented by a measure inM m (X, E*) with the same norm, and this representation is unique if and only ifX is a Choquet simplex. We also prove that ifX is metrizable andE is separable then there exists a selection map from the unit ball of the dual ofA(X, E) into the unit ball ofM m (X, E*) which is weak* to weak*-Borel measurable. This work will constitute a portion of the author's Ph.D. Thesis at the University of Illinois.  相似文献

Let (S, 𝔫) be an s-dimensional regular local ring with s > 2, and let I = (f, g) be an ideal in S generated by a regular sequence f, g of length two. As in [2 Goto , S. , Heinzer , W. , Kim , M.-K. ( 2006 ). The leading ideal of a complete intersection of height two . J. Algebra 298 : 238247 . [Google Scholar], 3 Goto , S. , Heinzer , W. , Kim , M.-K. ( 2007 ). The leading ideal of a complete intersection of height two, II . J. Algebra 312 : 709732 . [Google Scholar]], we examine the leading form ideal I* of I in the associated graded ring G: = gr𝔫(S). Let μ G (I*) = n ≥ 3, and let {ξ1, ξ2,…, ξ n } be a minimal homogeneous system of generators of I* such that ξ1 = f* and ξ2 = g*, and c i : = deg ξ i  ≤ deg ξ i+1: = c i+1 for each i ≤ n ? 1. For m ≤ n, we say that K m : = (ξ1,…, ξ m )G is an ideal generated by part of a minimal homogeneous generating set of I*. Let D i : = GCD(ξ1,…, ξ i ) and d i  = deg D i for i with 1 ≤ i ≤ m. Let K m be perfect with ht G K m  = 2. We prove that the following are equivalent: 1. deg ξ i+1 = deg ξ i  + (d i?1 ? d i ) +1, for all i with 3 ≤ i ≤ m ? 1;

2. deg ξ i+1 ≤ deg ξ i  + (d i?1 ? d i ) +1, for all i with 3 ≤ i ≤ m ? 1.

Furthermore, if these equivalent conditions hold, then K m  = I*. Moreover, if e(G/K m ) = e(G/I*), we prove that K m  = I*. We illustrate with several examples in the cases where K m is or is not perfect.  相似文献

This work is concerned with the equation ?tρ = Δxρm, m > 1, known as the porous medium equation. It shows stability of the pressure of solutions close to flat travelling wave fronts in the homogeneous Lipschitz sense that is in a way optimal for the treatment of the equation. This is the first result of this type and implies global regularity estimates for any number of derivatives of the pressure. Consequences include smoothness, analyticity in temporal and tangential directions, and analyticity of the interface between empty and occupied regions.  相似文献

We consider a nonlocal reaction-diffusion equation as a model for a population structured by a space variable and a phenotypic trait. To sustain the possibility of invasion in the case where an underlying principal eigenvalue is negative, we investigate the existence of travelling wave solutions. We identify a minimal speed c* > 0, and prove the existence of waves when c ≥ c* and the nonexistence when 0 ≤ c < c*.  相似文献

Let D be an F-central division algebra of index n. Here we present a criterion for the triviality of the group G(D) = D*/Nrd D/F (D*)D′ and thus generalizing various related results published recently. To be more precise, it is shown that G(D) = 1 if and only if SK 1(D) = 1 and F *2 = F *2n . Using this, we investigate the role of some particular subgroups of D* in the algebraic structure of D. In this direction, it is proved that a division algebra D of prime index is a symbol algebra if and only if D* contains a non-abelian nilpotent subgroup. More applications of this criterion including the computation of G(D) and the structure of maximal subgroups of D* are also investigated  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Let 𝒯 k be a sequence of triangulations of a polyhedron Ω ? ? n and let S k be the associated finite element space of continuous, piecewise polynomials of degree m. Let u k  ∈ S k be the finite element approximation of the solution u of a second-order, strongly elliptic system Pu = f with zero Dirichlet boundary conditions. We show that a weak approximation property of the sequence S k ensures optimal rates of convergence for the sequence u k . The method relies on certain a priori estimates in weighted Sobolev spaces for the system Pu = 0 that we establish. The weight is the distance to the set of singular boundary points. We obtain similar results for the Poisson problem with mixed Dirichlet–Neumann boundary conditions on a polygon.  相似文献

In this paper a non-linear mathematical model with fractional order ?, 0 < ? ≤ 1 is presented for analyzing and controlling the spread of HIV/AIDS. Both the disease-free equilibrium E0 and the endemic equilibrium E* are found and their stability is discussed using the stability theorem of fractional order differential equations. The basic reproduction number R0 plays an essential role in the stability properties of our system. When R0 < 1 the disease-free equilibrium E0 is attractor, but when R0 > 1, E0 is unstable and the endemic equilibrium (EE) E* exists and it is an attractor. Finally numerical Simulations are also established to investigate the influence of the system parameter on the spread of the disease.  相似文献
