Our goal is to demonstrate the utility of the calculus of moving surfaces (CMS) in boundary variation problems. We discuss the relative advantages of the CMS compared to the alternative approach of interior variations. We illustrate the technique by calculating the two leading terms of a power series for the Laplace eigenvalues on an ellipse with semi-axes 1 + a and 1 + b, where a and b are small. We compare the CMS estimates with those obtained by the conventional finite element method with Richardson extrapolation. The comparison confirms the cubic rate of convergence for the CMS estimates.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

For a polygonal open bounded subset of ?2, of boundary Γ, we study stability estimates for the projection operator from L 1(Γ) on a convex set K h of continuous piecewise affine functions satisfying bound constraints. We establish stability estimates in L p (Γ) and in W s,p (Γ) for 1 ≤ p ≤ ∞ and 0 < s ≤ 1. This kind of result plays a crucial role in error estimates for the numerical approximation of optimal control problems of partial differential equations with bilateral control constraints.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Let 𝒯 k be a sequence of triangulations of a polyhedron Ω ? ? n and let S k be the associated finite element space of continuous, piecewise polynomials of degree m. Let u k  ∈ S k be the finite element approximation of the solution u of a second-order, strongly elliptic system Pu = f with zero Dirichlet boundary conditions. We show that a weak approximation property of the sequence S k ensures optimal rates of convergence for the sequence u k . The method relies on certain a priori estimates in weighted Sobolev spaces for the system Pu = 0 that we establish. The weight is the distance to the set of singular boundary points. We obtain similar results for the Poisson problem with mixed Dirichlet–Neumann boundary conditions on a polygon.  相似文献

In this paper, we establish sharp well-posedness results for tangential derivative problems for the Laplacian with data in L p , 1 < p < ∞, on curvilinear polygons. Furthermore, we produce norm estimates/formulas for inverses of singular integral operators relevant for the Dirichlet, Neumann, tangential derivative, and transmission boundary value problems associated with the Laplacian in a distinguished subclass of Lipschitz domains in two dimensions. Our approach relies on Calderón-Zygmund theory and Mellin transform techniques.  相似文献

We generalize our unique continuation results recently established for a class of linear and nonlinear wave equations g?+σ? = 𝒢(?,??) on asymptotically anti-de Sitter (aAdS) spacetimes to aAdS spacetimes admitting nonstatic boundary metrics. The new Carleman estimates established in this setting constitute an essential ingredient in proving unique continuation results for the full nonlinear Einstein equations, which will be addressed in forthcoming papers. Key to the proof is a new geometrically adapted construction of foliations of pseudo-convex hypersurfaces near the conformal boundary.  相似文献

We prove local smoothing estimates for the Schrödinger initial value problem with data in the energy space L 2(? d ), d ≥ 2 and a general class of potentials. In the repulsive setting we have to assume just a power like decay (1 + |x|) for some γ > 0. Also attractive perturbations are considered. The estimates hold for all time and as a consequence a weak dispersion of the solution is obtained. The proofs are based on similar estimates for the corresponding stationary Helmholtz equation and Kato H-smooth theory.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the convergence of a finite difference scheme on nonuniform grids for the solution of second-order elliptic equations with mixed derivatives and variable coefficients in polygonal domains subjected to Dirichlet boundary conditions. We show that the scheme is equivalent to a fully discrete linear finite element approximation with quadrature. It exhibits the phenomenon of supraconvergence, more precisely, for s ∈ [1,2] order O(h s )-convergence of the finite difference solution, and its gradient is shown if the exact solution is in the Sobolev space H 1+s (Ω). In the case of an equation with mixed derivatives in a domain containing oblique boundary sections, the convergence order is reduced to O(h 3/2?ε) with ε > 0 if u ∈ H 3(Ω). The second-order accuracy of the finite difference gradient is in the finite element context nothing else than the supercloseness of the gradient. For s ∈ {1,2}, the given error estimates are strictly local.  相似文献

Let Γ denote a smooth simple curve in ? N , N ≥ 2, possibly with boundary. Let Ω R be the open normal tubular neighborhood of radius 1 of the expanded curve RΓ: = {Rx | x ∈ Γ??Γ}. Consider the superlinear problem ? Δu + λu = f(u) on the domains Ω R , as R → ∞, with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition. We prove the existence of multibump solutions with bumps lined up along RΓ with alternating signs. The function f is superlinear at 0 and at ∞, but it is not assumed to be odd. If the boundary of the curve is nonempty our results give examples of contractible domains in which the problem has multiple sign changing solutions.  相似文献

We consider an American put option on a linear function of d dividend-paying assets. The value function of this option is given as the solution of a free boundary problem. When d = 1, the behavior of the free boundary near the maturity of the option is well known. In this article, we extend to the case d > 1 the study of the free boundary near maturity. A parameterization of the stopping region at time t is given. That enables us to define and give a convergence rate for this region when t goes to the maturity.  相似文献

In this paper we study a free boundary problem, arising from a model for the propagation of laminar flames. Consider a cylindrical region S in ? n , and the following free boundary problem with Dirichlet data on ? S: u t  = Δ u in {u > 0} ∩ S, |? u|=1 on ? {u > 0} ∩ S and u = 0 on ? S. We show that if there is a contact point of the free boundary {u = 0, |? u|=1} with ? S, then the free boundary approaches ? S tangentially and it turns out to be a graph of C 1+α, α function near the contact point. In particular, the space normal is Hölder continuous.  相似文献

Abstract

We study boundary regularity of weak solutions of the Navier–Stokes equations in the half-space in dimension n ≥ 3. We prove that a weak solution u which is locally in the class L p, q with 2/p + n/q = 1, q > n near boundary is Hölder continuous up to the boundary. Our main tool is a pointwise estimate for the fundamental solution of the Stokes system, which is of independent interest.  相似文献

Abstract

Let Ω be a bounded Lipschitz domain in ? n , n ≥ 3 with connected boundary. We study the Robin boundary condition ?u/?N + bu = f ∈ L p (?Ω) on ?Ω for Laplace's equation Δu = 0 in Ω, where b is a non-negative function on ?Ω. For 1 < p < 2 + ?, under suitable compatibility conditions on b, we obtain existence and uniqueness results with non-tangential maximal function estimate ‖(?u)*‖ p  ≤ Cf p , as well as a pointwise estimate for the associated Robin function. Moreover, the solution u is represented by a single layer potential.  相似文献

In this paper, we study some modified linear restriction estimates of the dynamics generated by Schrödinger operator on metric cone M, where the metric cone M is of the form M = (0, ∞) r  × Σ, with the cross section Σ being a compact (n ? 1)-dimensional Riemannian manifold (Σ, h) and the equipped metric being g = dr 2 + r 2 h. Assuming the initial data possesses additional regularity in angular variable θ ∈ Σ, we show some linear restriction estimates for the solutions. In terms of their applications, we obtain global-in-time Strichartz estimates for radial initial data and show small initial data scattering theory for the mass-critical nonlinear Schrödinger equation on two-dimensional metric cones.  相似文献

We consider some linear Schrödinger equation with variable coefficients associated to a smooth symmetric metric g which can be degenerate, without sign and such that g has a submatrix of fixed rank v which is uniformly nondegenerate. In this general setting we prove Strichartz estimates with a loss of derivative on the solution. We also discuss the problem of the control of high frequencies. In particular, we prove that if the equation preserves the H s norm for all s ≥ 0, then we obtain almost the same Strichartz estimates as those for the Schrödinger equation associated to a Riemannian metric of dimension 2d ? v.  相似文献

We establish uniform Lipschitz estimates for second‐order elliptic systems in divergence form with rapidly oscillating, almost‐periodic coefficients. We give interior estimates as well as estimates up to the boundary in bounded C1,α domains with either Dirichlet or Neumann data. The main results extend those in the periodic setting due to Avellaneda and Lin for interior and Dirichlet boundary estimates and later Kenig, Lin, and Shen for the Neumann boundary conditions. In contrast to these papers, our arguments are constructive (and thus the constants are in principle computable) and the results for the Neumann conditions are new even in the periodic setting, since we can treat nonsymmetric coefficients. We also obtain uniform W1,p estimates.© 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

This paper deals with the problem ? Δ p u + α(x)|u| p?2 u = β(x)f(|u|) in Ω, subjected to the zero Neumann boundary condition, where p > 1, Ω ? ? N is bounded with smooth boundary, α, β ? L (Ω), essinfΩβ > 0, and f:[0,+ ∞) → ? is a not necessarily continuous nonlinearity that oscillates either at the origin or at the infinity. By using nonsmooth variational methods, we establish in both cases the existence of infinitely many distinct non-negative solutions of the Neumann problem. In our framework, α:Ω → ? may be a sign-changing or even a nonpositive potential, which is not permitted usually in earlier works.  相似文献

High frequency estimates for the Dirichlet-to-Neumann and Neumann-to-Dirichlet operators are obtained for the Helmholtz equation in the exterior of bounded obstacles. These a priori estimates are used to study the scattering of plane waves by an arbitrary bounded obstacle and to prove that the total cross section of the scattered wave does not exceed four geometrical cross sections of the obstacle in the limit as the wave number k → ∞. This bound of the total cross section is sharp.  相似文献
