We propose and analyze several finite difference schemes for the Hunter-Saxton equation

(HS)

This equation has been suggested as a simple model for nematic liquid crystals. We prove that the numerical approximations converge to the unique dissipative solution of (HS), as identified by Zhang and Zheng. A main aspect of the analysis, in addition to the derivation of several a priori estimates that yield some basic convergence results, is to prove strong convergence of the discrete spatial derivative of the numerical approximations of , which is achieved by analyzing various renormalizations (in the sense of DiPerna and Lions) of the numerical schemes. Finally, we demonstrate through several numerical examples the proposed schemes as well as some other schemes for which we have no rigorous convergence results.

The purpose of this paper is to extend the symmetric representation of the rigid body equations from the group SO (n) to other groups. These groups are matrix subgroups of the general linear group that are defined by a quadratic matrix identity. Their corresponding Lie algebras include several classical semisimple matrix Lie algebras. The approach is to start with an optimal control problem on these groups that generates geodesics for a left-invariant metric. Earlier work by Bloch, Crouch, Marsden, and Ratiu defines the symmetric representation of the rigid body equations, which is obtained by solving the same optimal control problem in the particular case of the Lie group SO (n). This paper generalizes this symmetric representation to a wider class of matrix groups satisfying a certain quadratic matrix identity. We consider the relationship between this symmetric representation of the generalized rigid body equations and the generalized rigid body equations themselves. A discretization of this symmetric representation is constructed making use of the symmetry, which in turn give rise to numerical algorithms to integrate the generalized rigid body equations for the given class of matrix Lie groups. In this article, an existence theorem of global solutions with small initial data belonging to L1∩LpL1Lp, (n<p?∞)(n<p?) for a chemotaxis system is given on the whole space RnRn, n?3n?3. In the case p=∞p=, our global solution is integrable with respect to the space variable on some time interval, and then conserves the mass for a short time, at least. The system consists of a chemotaxis equation with a logarithmic term and an ordinary equation without diffusion term.  相似文献

In this paper we study several qualitative properties of the Degasperis-Procesi equation. We first established the precise blow-up rate and then determine the blow-up set of blow-up strong solutions to this equation for a large class of initial data. The goal of this paper is to study the mathematical properties of a new model of soil carbon dynamics which is a reaction-diffusion system with a chemotactic term, with the aim to account for the formation of soil aggregations in the bacterial and microorganism spatial organization (hot spot in soil). This is a spatial and chemotactic version of MOMOS (Modelling Organic changes by Micro-Organisms of Soil), a model recently introduced by M. Pansu and his group. The authors present here two forms of chemotactic terms, first a “classical” one and second a function which prevents the overcrowding of microorganisms. They prove in each case the existence of a nonnegative global solution, and investigate its uniqueness and the existence of a global attractor for all the solutions.  相似文献

We show that a model describing the interaction between normal and infectious prion proteins admits global solutions. More precisely, supposing the involved degradation rates to be bounded, we prove global existence and uniqueness of classical solutions. Based on this existence theory, we provide sufficient conditions for the existence of global weak solutions in the case of unbounded splitting rates. In this paper, we study the problem of global existence of weak solutions for the quasi-stationary compressible Stokes equations with an anisotropic viscous tensor. The key idea is a new identity that we obtain by comparing the limit of the equations of the energies associated to a sequence of weak-solutions with the energy equation associated to the system verified by the limit of the sequence of weak-solutions. In the context of stability of weak solutions, this allows us to construct a defect measure which is used to prove compactness for the density and therefore allowing us to identify the pressure in the limiting model. By doing so we avoid the use of the so-called effective flux. Using this new tool, we solve an open problem namely global existence of solutions à la Leray for such a system without assuming any restriction on the anisotropy amplitude. This provides a flexible and natural method to treat compressible quasilinear Stokes systems which are important for instance in biology, porous media, supra-conductivity or other applications in the low Reynolds number regime.  相似文献

We study the Dirichlet problem for the stationary Oseen equations around a rotating body in an exterior domain. Our main results are the existence and uniqueness of weak and very weak solutions satisfying appropriate Lq‐estimates. The uniqueness of very weak solutions is shown by the method of cut‐off functions with an anisotropic decay. Then our existence result for very weak solutions is deduced by a duality argument from the existence and estimates of strong solutions. From this and interior regularity of very weak solutions, we finally establish the complete D1,r‐result for weak solutions of the Oseen equations around a rotating body in an exterior domain, where 4/3<r <4. Here, D1,r is the homogeneous Sobolev space.  相似文献
