For the first time, average angular momenta of the ternary fission fragments 100, 102Zr, 106Mo, 144, 146Ba and 138, 140, 142Xe from the α-accompanied fission of 252Cf were obtained from relative intensities of prompt γ-ray transitions with the use of the statistical model calculation. Average values of the angular momenta were compared with the corresponding values for the same fission fragments from the binary fission of 252Cf. Results indicate the presence of a decreasing trend in the average values of angular momenta induced in ternary fission fragments compared to the same binary fission fragments. On the average, the total angular momentum extracted for ternary fission fragments is ∼1.4 ℏ lower than in binary fission. Consequently, results indicate that the mechanism of the ternary α-particles emission may directly effect an induction of angular momenta of fission fragments, and possible scenarios of such mechanisms are discussed. Further, the dependence of the angular momenta of 106Mo and 140Xe on the number of emitted neutrons from correlated pairs of primary fragments was obtained also showing a decreasing dependence of average angular momenta with increasing number of emitted neutrons. Consequences are briefly discussed.  相似文献

Charge distribution studies for heavy-mass fission products were carried out in the fast-neutron-induced fission of 232Th, 238U, 240Pu and 244Cm using radiochemical and gamma-ray spectrometric techniques. The width parameter( σZA), the most probable charge/mass ( Z P/A P), the charge polarization (ΔZ) and the slope of charge polarization [ δ(ΔZ)/δA ] as a function of the fragment mass (A ) were deduced. The average charge dispersion parameter ( 〈σZ〉) and proton odd-even effect ( δp) were also obtained for these fissioning systems. The 〈σZ〉 and δp values in the fissioning systems 241Pu * and 245Cm * were determined for the first time. The δ(ΔZ)/δA value is also determined for the first time in the fissioning systems 239U * , 241Pu * and 245Cm * . These data along with the literature data for even-Z fissioning systems such as 230Th * , 232Th * , 233U * , 234U * , 236U * , 238U * , 239Pu * , 240Pu*, 242Pu * , 246Cm * , 250Cf * and 252Cf(SF) are discussed in terms of nuclear structure effect and dynamics of descent from the saddle to the scission point. The role of the excitation energy in low-energy fission is also discussed. Independent isomeric yield ratios (IYR) of 128Sb, 130Sb, 132Sb, 131Te, 133Te, 132I, 134I, 136I, 135Xe, and 138Cs have been determined in the fast neutron-induced fission of 243Am using the radiochemical and γ-ray spectrometric technique. From the IYR, fragment angular momenta (J rms) have been deduced using the spin-dependent statistical model analysis. From the J rms-values and experimental kinetic energy data deformation parameters (β) have been deduced using the pre-scission bending mode oscillation model and the statistical model. The J rms- and β-values of fission fragments from the present and earlier work in the odd-Z fissioning systems ( 238Np * , 242Am * and 244Am * ) are compared with the literature data in the even-Z fissioning systems ( 230, 233Th * , 233, 234, 236, 239U * , 239, 240, 241, 242Pu * , 244Cm(SF), 245, 246Cm * , 250Cf * and 252Cf(SF)) to examine the role of single-particle (proton) spin effect. It was observed that i) in all the fissioning systems J rms- and β-values of the fragments with spherical 82n shell and even-Z products are lower than the fragments away from the spherical neutron shell and odd-Z products, which indicate the effect of nuclear structure. ii) For both even-Z and odd-Z fission products J rms-values increase with Z F 2/A F due to increase in Coulomb torque. iii) The J rms- and β-values of even-Z fission products are comparable in all the fissioning systems. However, for odd-Z fission products they are slightly higher in the odd-Z fissioning systems compared to their adjacent even-Z fissioning systems. This is possible due to the contribution of the extra single-particle (proton) spin of the odd-Z fissioning systems to their odd-Z fragments. iv) The yield-weighted fragment angular momentum and elemental yields profile shows an anti-correlation in even-Z fissioning systems but not in the odd-Z fissioning systems.  相似文献

The 9Be +209Bi fusion cross sections were measured in the 36.0 MeV ≤ Elab≤ 50.0 MeV range, down to 0.6 mb, with high accuracy via in-beam detection of the ground state α-decay of the evaporation residues produced. The elastic scattering cross sections around 150° and 135° were also obtained with moderate angular resolution. The cross sections below the barrier are reproduced by coupled channel calculations which include only one break-up channel with a moderate strength and a phenomenological renormalization of the potential depth. These simple calculations overestimate the cross sections above the barrier most likely due to the fact that the 9Be break-up process becomes much stronger. Experiments have been performed for studying quaternary fission (QF) in spontaneous fission of 252Cf, on the one hand, and for the neutron-induced fission reactions 233, 235U(nth, f ), on the other hand. In this higher-multiplicity fission mode, by definition, four charged products appear in the final state. In other words, as a generalization of the ternary-fission process, not only one but two light charged particles (LCPs) are accompanying the splitting of an actinide nucleus into the customary pair of fission fragments. In the two sets of measurements, which have used quite different approaches, the yields of several QF reactions with α-particles and tritons as the LCPs have been determined and the corresponding kinetic-energy distributions of the α-particles measured. The QF process can appear in two basically different ways: i) the simultaneous creation of two LCPs in the act of fission (“true” QF) and ii) via a fast sequential decay of a single but particle-unstable LCP in common ternary fission (“pseudo” QF). Experimentally the two varieties of QF have been distinguished by exploiting the different patterns of angular correlations between the two outgoing LCPs. The experiments described in the present paper are the first to demonstrate that both types of reactions, true and pseudo QF, occur with quite comparable probabilities. As a new result also, the kinetic-energy distributions related to the two processes have been shown to be significantly different. For all QF reactions which could be explored, the yields for 252Cf(sf) were found to be roughly by an order of magnitude larger than the yields found in the 233U(nth, f ) and 235U(nth, f ) reactions. An interesting by-product has been the measurement of yields of excited LCPs which allows to deduce nuclear temperatures at scission by comparison to the respective yields in the ground state.  相似文献

Cross-sections for the production of neutron-rich nuclei obtained by neutron-induced fission of natural uranium have been measured. The neutrons were generated by bombarding a 13C target with 55 MeV protons. The results, position of the maximum in the (Z, A)-plane, width and magnitude, are very comparable with those where the neutrons are generated by bombardment of natural 12C graphite with 50 MeV deuterons. Depending on the geometry of the converter/target assembly the isotope yields, however, are a factor of 2-3 lower due to less efficient production of neutrons per primary projectile, especially at small forward angles. In this paper we present for the first time the measured delayed neutron (DN) yields and time spectra from high-energy protons interacting with thick natPb targets. The 1GeV protons from the accelerator impinged on targets of different thicknesses producing a huge number of spallation-fission products, some of which can be DN precursors. After the beam is switched off, the DNs were detected with optimized 3He counter. The production yields of light DN precursors as 17N and “usual” fission products as 87Br and 88Br, which dominate the total DN activity, are obtained both for thin and thick targets. These new data are of great interest for the new generation high-power spallation targets based on liquid-metal technologies. Our findings also should help to constrain the physics models within the simulations codes.  相似文献

A measurement of symmetric and asymmetric photofission yields of238U in the energy region from 4.5 MeV to 6.5 MeV has been performed. As γ-source the bremsstrahlung from a microtron has been used. The fission yields are obtained from β-counting of chemically separated isotopes 111Ag, 115Cd and 117Cd for symmetric fission and 139Ba for asymmetric fission. Some structures in the yield curves at about 5.3 MeV and a pronounced maximum at about 6.0 MeV in the valley-to-peak ratio in the fission fragment yield distribution are observed. It is suggested that these effects are connected with the double-hump fission barrier concept and indicate differences between fission barriers for symmetric and asymmetric fission.  相似文献

The results of a multiparameter investigation of the 6He emission accompanying the spontaneous fission of 252Cf are presented. The energy spectrum and the yield of the 6He particles are found to be in accord with previous measurements, but their angular distribution is observed to be narrower at 13° ± 3° (FWHM) than the value of ? 32° deduced in a previous investigation.Comparisons of the experimental with published calculated energy spectra and angular distributions for 3H, 4He and 6He particles are shown to provide evidence for a compact scission configuration in ternary fission.  相似文献

The neutron emission is studied following the formation of muonic atoms of 232Th and 239Pu. Energy and time distributions are measured. Various processes which contribute to the measured spectra are considered. A collective resonance model of the muon capture is used to calculate the nuclear excitation function. The probability of the radiationless nuclear excitations and the influence of the presence of the bound atomic muon on the fission barrier are discussed. The existing data for the ΓnΓf, are analysed. As a result of the analysis the rates of the prompt and delayed fission events (due to the radiationless mu-atomic transitions and the nuclear muon capture, respectively) are deduced from the experimental data to be 0.006/muon and 0.045/muon for 232Th and 0.10/muon and 0.49/muon for 239Pu, respectively. The increase of the fission barrier for muonic atoms is confirmed. The experimental neutron rates can be consistently explained only if it is assumed that in both nucleides the Kα radiationless transitions do not induce fission. The increase of the fission barrier for 239Pu is hence deduced to be not less than 1.2 MeV. The fate of the atomic muon after the nuclear fission is briefly discussed. Its influence on the interpretation of the present results is found to be small.  相似文献

A comprehensive study has been carried out of the yield pattern of fission products formed in fast neutron-induced fission of 233U. The isotope separator on-line facility at Studsvik to the R2-0 nuclear reactor was used for rapid separation of the fission products. At a target temperature of 2250 °C fission products of the elements from zinc (Z = 30) to barium (Z = 56) are released, with the exception of yttrium, zirconium, niobium, molybdenum, technetium, ruthenium and rhodium. The individual isotopes are then available for study, implying that an almost complete mapping of the yield distribution can be made. In the analysis, the delay between production and measurement and the overall separator efficiency for three consecutive elements (the one under study and its parent and grand parent) are taken into account. Independent and/or cumulative yields have been obtained for 203 nuclear species, among them 59 isomeric states. Received: 19 April 2000 / Accepted: 19 June 2000  相似文献

Masses corresponding to observed fine-structure peaks in the fragment mass distributions for thermal-neutron-induced fission of 233U and 235U are shown to correspond to average measured masses for even-even nuclear charge splits. Evidence is presented that the yield enhancement for even-Z fragments is not restricted just to fission events with higher-than-average total kinetic energy. The anomalously high yield of fragments with mass 134 in 235U(n, f) as opposed to 233(n, f) is tentatively correlated with rapidly changing nuclear structure properties as a function of the mass of the complementary light (Z = 40) fragments.  相似文献

A series of on-line mass separation experiments have been performed at the IRIS facility to measure the yield and release of Rb and Cs neutron-rich isotopes produced by fission reaction of 238U. A 1 GeV proton beam was used to bombard uranium carbide targets with the densities of 11 g/cm3 and 1.5 g/cm3 held at temperatures in the range (2000-2230) °C. The release curves of Rb and Cs long-lived isotopes were measured from both kinds of targets. The overall production efficiency was determined making use of experimentally measured cross-sections of that isotope production. Comparison of the experimental yields of Rb and Cs isotopes with the calculated ones after corrections for losses due to finite release times suggests that the diffusion is the dominating process reducing the efficiency for short-lived isotopes. When normalized to the same thickness, an enhancement for the high-density rod target of the measured isotope yields is observed when going far from stability. This is possibly explained by the reactions induced by secondary neutrons. A significant odd-even effect with higher yields of Cs even neutron isotopes has been observed, confirming a similar effect obtained in earlier experiments.  相似文献

The role of the entrance channel in the fusion-fission reactions leading to nearly the same superheavy compound nucleus is studied in the framework of dynamic model. The calculations are done for 48Ca +244Pu and 74,76Ge +208Pb reactions which could lead to formation of superheavy element Z = 114. It is shown that for these reactions there is an energy window for the values of the bombarding energy at which a capture probability is sufficiently large. Together with the restriction coming from the intrinsic barrier for fusion, it helps to find an optimal value of the bombarding energy for a given projectile--target combination. The target system is one of the key issues for the facilities aimed at the production of neutron-rich radioactive ion beams. In the framework of the SPES project (Study for the Production of Exotic Species), the possibility of using a target configuration with a proton beam (40MeV, 0.2mA) directly impinging on multiple uranium carbide disks is investigated. The 238U fission fragments constitute the source for the exotic beams and for this purpose the disks are placed inside a graphite box at 2000 °C. The target is split into several thin disks in order to allow the cooling of the system by thermal radiation. In this way about ∼ 1013 fissions s -1 are obtained with a relative simple system and with relative low costs. Further steps have been performed compared to previous publications and now all the main parameters of the system have been analysed by means of calculation codes: the fission rates and the fission fragment distribution; the power deposition and the thermal analysis; the thermo-mechanical behaviours of the disks; the effusive and diffusive extraction release properties of the target.  相似文献

Two separate three-dimensional experiments have been performed in which the energies of coincident fragment pairs and γ-rays or internal conversion electrons, emitted within ≈ 1.6 nsec of the thermal-neutron-induced fission of 235U, were recorded event by event. The fragment kinetic energies were used for mass identification. The self-consistency of the values of electron energy, γ-ray energy and fragment charge, and its agreement with X-ray selection data, were used to identify the atomic numbers of the fragments. The analysis of the γ-ray and conversion electron spectra resulted in the assignment of many transitions to new isotopes as well as improvement in or confirmation of many assignments from the 252Cf spontaneous fission data. Limited information on the multipolarities of the transitions in even nuclei is presented. The relative yield of electrons per fragment indicates softness to deformation in the mass region 100–110. Data are presented supporting the assignment of a 193 keV transition as the 2+ → 0+ transition in 98Sr. An examination of the 2+ → 0+ level systematics of neighbouring even nuclei suggests a transition from vibrational to rotational behaviour in the light fragments between neutron numbers 58 and 60.  相似文献

The most probable charges of secondary fragments, produced after neutron evaporation from primary fragments, have been evaluated using fractional cumulative and mass yields in the 12MeV proton-induced fission of 232Th . The nuclear-charge polarization of primary fragments at scission has been obtained by correcting the most probable charge of secondary fragments for neutron evaporation. The fragment mass dependence of the nuclear-charge polarization at scission shows good agreement with that for thermal neutron-induced fission of 235U , indicating that the nuclear-charge polarization is nearly insensitive to mass and excitation energy of the fissioning nucleus for asymmetric fission in the actinide region.  相似文献

The fission probabilities and angular distributions of the fission fragments for the (α, α'f) reaction on 232Th and 238U at a bombarding energy of 120 MeV have been measured from about 4 to 14 MeV excitation energy. Evidence for sub-barrier resonances has been found, the negativeparity ones occurring at the same excitation energy where photofission resonances have been observed. The data are analyzed with the two-humped barrier model. For 238U the data are reasonably well fitted with barriers similar to those known from the literature. For 232Th though, the outer barrier parameters are quite different: the height EB = 6.6 MeV and the width (khω)B = 1.2 MeV. Also for 232Th, introducing an additional mass symmetric and axially asymmetric outer barrier, as was previously found necessary for 238U, does not result in a good fit to the data at higher excitation energies.  相似文献

The anisotropy of fission fragment γ-rays in the reactions 239Pu(nth, f) and 233U(nth, f) have been measured. In this work, two γ energy bands were used to confirm the energy independence of the anisotropy. For the γ energy band of 0.49–0.65 MeV and the γ energy band of 0.83–0.92 MeV the anisotropies were found to be 0.18 ± 0.03, 0.13 ± 0.03 and 0.19 ± 0.03, 0.11 ± 0.03 for the 239Pu and 233U targets respectively. The data are corrected for the Doppler effect and the time of flight was large enough to eliminate the counting of neutrons. Comparisons with the theories of Nix and Swiatecki, and Strutinsky have been made and approximate correction for fragment rotation along fission axis made.  相似文献

Fission-fragment mass and kinetic energy distributions and their correlations have been measured for the spontaneous fission of 244Cm. About 3.54 × 105 fission events were collected. The global mass distribution shows shoulders at μH ≈ 134 and μH ≈ 143?144. The peak/valley ratio is 86. The dip ΔEK value at symmetry is 13.4 ± 1.5 MeV. In the yields for high-kinetic-energy selected events, the masses 139 and 144 dominate. The results of 244Cm are compared with the other isotopes of Cm and discussed in terms of the structures present in the potential energy surface of the fissioning system caused by the structures in the nascent fragments.  相似文献
