Optomechanics experiments are rapidly approaching the regime where the radiation pressure of a single photon displaces the mechanical oscillator by more than its zero-point uncertainty. We show that in this limit the power spectrum has multiple sidebands and that the cavity response has several resonances in the resolved-sideband limit. Using master-equation simulations, we also study the crossover from the weak-coupling many-photon to the single-photon strong-coupling regime. Finally, we find non-Gaussian steady states of the mechanical oscillator when multiphoton transitions are resonant. Our study provides the tools to detect and take advantage of this novel regime of optomechanics.  相似文献

The combination of molecular dynamics simulations and neutron scattering measurements on three different glass-forming polymers (polyisoprene, poly(vinyl ethylene) and polybutadiene) has allowed to establish the existence of a crossover from Gaussian to non-Gaussian behavior for the incoherent scattering function in the α-relaxation regime. The deviation from Gaussian behavior observed can be reproduced assuming the existence of a distribution of discrete jump lengths underlying the sublinear diffusion of the atomic motions during the structural relaxation.  相似文献

The silo discharge process is studied by molecular dynamics simulations. The development of the velocity profile and the probability density function for the displacements in the horizontal and vertical axis are obtained. The PDFs obtained at the beginning of the discharge reveal non-Gaussian statistics and superdiffusive behaviors. When the stationary flow is developed, the PDFs at shorter temporal scales are non-Gaussian too. For big orifices a well-defined transition between ballistic and diffusive regime is observed. In the case of a small outlet orifice, no well-defined transition is observed. We use a nonlinear diffusion equation introduced in the framework of non-extensive thermodynamics in order to describe the movements of the grains. The solution of this equation gives a well-defined relationship (γ= 2/(3-q)) between the anomalous diffusion exponent γ and the entropic parameter q introduced by the non-extensive formalism to fit the PDF of the fluctuations.  相似文献

The heterogeneous features of the supercooled state over different time regimes are explored in a self-consistent mode-coupling mode. The exponent a for the mean-square displacement approximately t(a), of a tagged particle is computed. The non-Gaussian parameter alpha(2)(t) shows a peak in the short time regime in addition to a second peak over longer times. The position of the short-time peak in alpha(2)(t) hardly shifts, while that of the other grows with density.  相似文献

We present a formalism to derive entanglement criteria beyond the Gaussian regime that can be readily tested by only homodyne detection. The measured observable is the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) correlation. Its arbitrary functional form enables us to detect non-Gaussian entanglement even when an entanglement test based on second-order moments fails. We illustrate the power of our experimentally friendly criteria for a broad class of non-Gaussian states under realistic conditions. We also show rigorously that quantum teleportation for continuous variables employs a specific functional form of EPR correlation.  相似文献

The persistent current in an ensemble of normal-metal rings shows Gaussian distributed sample-to-sample fluctuations with non-Gaussian corrections, which are precursors of the transition into the Anderson localized regime. We here report a calculation of the leading non-Gaussian correction to the current autocorrelation function, which is of third-order in the current. Although the third-order correlation function is small, inversely proportional to the dimensionless conductance g of the ring, the mere fact that it is nonzero is remarkable, since it is an odd moment of the current distribution.  相似文献

Previous works have shown that time asymmetric forcing on the one hand, as well as non-Gaussian noises on the other, can separately enhance the efficiency and current of a Brownian motor. Here, we study the result of subjecting a Brownian motor to both effects simultaneously. Our results have been compared with those obtained for the Gaussian white noise regime in the adiabatic limit. We find that, although the inclusion of the time asymmetry parameter increases the efficiency value up to a certain extent, for the present case this increase is much less appreciable than in the white noise case. We also present a comparative study of the transport coherence in the context of colored noise. Though the efficiency in some cases becomes higher for the non-Gaussian case, the Péclet number is always higher in the Gaussian colored noise case than in the white noise as well as non-Gaussian colored noise cases.  相似文献

The physics of quasi-one-dimensional Peierls systems is dominated by order parameter fluctuations. We present an algorithm which allows us for the first time to exactly calculate physical properties of the electrons gas coupled to classical order parameter fluctuations. The whole range from the Gaussian regime dominated by amplitude fluctuations to the non-Gaussian regime dominated by phase fluctuations is accessible. Our results provide insight into the "pseudogap" phenomenon occurring in underdoped high- T(c) superconductors, quasi-one-dimensional organic conductors, and liquid metals.  相似文献

We investigate the first-passage-time statistics of the integrate-fire neuron model driven by a sub-threshold harmonic signal superposed with a non-Gaussian noise. Here, we considered the noise as the result of a random multiplicative process displaced from the origin by an additive term. Such a mechanism generates a power-law distributed noise whose characteristic decay exponent can be finely tuned. We performed numerical simulations to analyze the influence of the noise non-Gaussian character on the stochastic resonance condition. We found that when the noise deviates from Gaussian statistics, the resonance condition occurs at weaker noise intensities, achieving a minimum at a finite value of the distribution function decay exponent. We discuss the possible relevance of this feature to the efficiency of the firing dynamics of biological neurons, as the present result indicates that neurons would require a lower noise level to detect a sub-threshold signal when its statistics departs from Gaussian.  相似文献

We study Brownian motors driven by colored non Gaussian noises, both in the overdamped regime and in the case with inertia, and analyze how the departure of the noise distribution from Gaussian behavior can affect its behavior. We analyze the problem from two alternative points of view: one oriented mainly to possible technological applications and the other more inspired in natural systems. In both cases we find an enhancement of current and efficiency due to the non-Gaussian character of the noise. We also discuss the possibility of observing an enhancement of the mass separation capability of the system when non-Gaussian noises are considered.Received: 8 July 2004, Published online: 30 September 2004PACS: 05.45.-a Nonlinear dynamics and nonlinear dynamical systems - 05.40.Jc Brownian motion - 87.16.Uv Active transport processes; ion channels  相似文献

The scaling properties of the maximal height of a growing self-affine surface with a lateral extent L are considered. In the late-time regime its value measured relative to the evolving average height scales like the roughness: h*(L) approximately L alpha. For large values its distribution obeys logP(h*(L)) approximately (-)A(h*(L)/L(alpha))(a). In the early-time regime where the roughness grows as t(beta), we find h*(L) approximately t(beta)[lnL-(beta/alpha)lnt+C](1/b), where either b = a or b is the corresponding exponent of the velocity distribution. These properties are derived from scaling and extreme-value arguments. They are corroborated by numerical simulations and supported by exact results for surfaces in 1D with the asymptotic behavior of a Brownian path.  相似文献

We investigate rotational dynamics of an actively driven rotor through experiments and numerical simulations. While probability density distributions of rotor angular velocity are strongly non-Gaussian, relative probabilities of observing rotation in opposite directions are shown to be linearly related to the angular velocity magnitude. We construct a stochastic model to describe transitions between different states from rotor angular velocity data and use the stochastic model to show that symmetry properties in probability density distributions are related to the detailed fluctuation relation(FR) of entropy productions.  相似文献

The use of reaction-diffusion models rests on the key assumption that the diffusive process is Gaussian. However, a growing number of studies have pointed out the presence of anomalous diffusion, and there is a need to understand reactive systems in the presence of this type of non-Gaussian diffusion. Here we study front dynamics in reaction-diffusion systems where anomalous diffusion is due to asymmetric Levy flights. Our approach consists of replacing the Laplacian diffusion operator by a fractional diffusion operator of order alpha, whose fundamental solutions are Levy alpha-stable distributions that exhibit power law decay, x(-(1+alpha)). Numerical simulations of the fractional Fisher-Kolmogorov equation and analytical arguments show that anomalous diffusion leads to the exponential acceleration of the front and a universal power law decay, x(-alpha), of the front's tail.  相似文献

We report a theoretical investigation on spin-Hall conductance fluctuation of disordered four-terminal devices in the presence of Rashba or/and Dresselhaus spin-orbital interactions in two dimensions. As a function of disorder, the spin-Hall conductance GsH shows ballistic, diffusive, and insulating transport regimes. For given spin-orbit interactions, a universal spin-Hall conductance fluctuation (USCF) is found in the diffusive regime. The value of the USCF depends on the spin-orbit coupling tso but is independent of other system parameters. It is also independent of whether Rashba or Dresselhaus or both spin-orbital interactions are present. When tso is comparable to the hopping energy t, the USCF is a universal number approximately 0.18e/4pi. The distribution of GsH crosses over from a Gaussian distribution in the metallic regime to a non-Gaussian distribution in the insulating regime as the disorder strength is increased.

Spectral method simulations show that undriven magnetohydrodynamic turbulence spontaneously generates coherent spatial correlations of several types, associated with local Beltrami fields, directional alignment of velocity and magnetic fields, and antialignment of magnetic and fluid acceleration components. These correlations suppress nonlinearity to levels lower than what is obtained from Gaussian fields, and occur in spatial patches. We suggest that this rapid relaxation leads to non-Gaussian statistics and spatial intermittency.  相似文献

The kinetic details of crystallization in supercooled liquid Pb during the isothermal relaxation process have been investigated by molecular dynamics simulations, and the microstructure evolution analyzed by the cluster-type index method (CTIM) and the tracing method. It has been found that, the dynamic features are consistently correlated with the microstructure evolution and the crystallization characteristics in the mean square displacement (MSD) and the non-Gaussian parameter (NGP): the β relaxation regime corresponds to the minor structural rearrangement because of the “cage effect”, and the atoms attempt to escape from the “cages”; the α relaxation regime is related to a more diffusive movement of atoms, and the appearance of the second plateau in MSD and the non-zero plateau in NGP corresponds to the completion of crystallization. In addition, three distinct stages of nucleation, growth of nuclei and coarsening of crystallites in the crystallization process have been clearly revealed.  相似文献

We present a general technique to obtain the zero temperature cumulant generating function of the full counting statistics of charge transfer in interacting impurity models out of equilibrium from time-dependent simulations on a lattice. We demonstrate the technique with application to the self-dual interacting resonant level model, where very good agreement between numerical simulations using the density matrix renormalization group and those obtained analytically from the thermodynamic Bethe ansatz is found. We show from the exact form of counting statistics that the quasiparticles involved in transport carry charge 2e in the low bias regime and e/2 in the high bias regime.  相似文献

We calculated the force-extension curves for a flexible polyelectrolyte chain with varying charge separations by performing Monte Carlo simulations of a 5000 bead chain using a screened Coulomb interaction. At all charge separations, the force-extension curves exhibit a Pincus-like scaling regime at intermediate forces and a logarithmic regime at large forces. As the charge separation increases, the Pincus regime shifts to a larger range of forces and the logarithmic regime starts are larger forces. We also found that force-extension curve for the corresponding neutral chain has a logarithmic regime. Decreasing the diameter of bead in the neutral chain simulations removed the logarithmic regime, and the force-extension curve tends to the freely jointed chain limit. This result shows that only excluded volume is required for the high force logarithmic regime to occur.  相似文献

We propose a scheme of measuring the non-Gaussian character of noise by a hysteretic Josephson junction in the macroscopic quantum tunneling regime. We model the detector as an (under)damped LC resonator. It transforms Poissonian charge injection into current through the detector, which samples the injection statistics over a floating time window of length approximately Q/omega(J), where Q is the quality factor of the resonator and omega(J) its resonance frequency. This scheme ought to reveal the Poisson character of charge injection in a detector with realistic parameters.  相似文献
