The interaction of large Xe clusters with a soft x-ray laser pulse having a wavelength of 13.9 nm and an intensity of up to 2x10(10) W/cm2 was investigated using a time-of-flight ion mass spectrometer. The corresponding laser photon energy was sufficiently high to photoionize Xe 4d innershell electrons. It was found that Xe3+ ions (which result from double Auger decay of 4d vacancies) became the dominant final ionic product with increasing cluster size and x-ray intensity. This is in contrast to the results of synchrotron radiation experiments involving free Xe atoms, in which Xe2+ is the dominant resultant ion species. Possible mechanisms responsible for the enhancement of the double Auger transition probability in x-ray laser and cluster interaction are discussed.  相似文献

A nonresonant two-photon absorption process can be manipulated by tailoring the ultra-short laser pulse. In this paper, we theoretically demonstrate a highly selective population of two excited states in the nonresonant two-photon absorption process by rationally designing a spectral phase distribution. Our results show that one excited state is maximally populated while the other state population is widely tunable from zero to the maximum value. We believe that the theoretical results may play an important role in the selective population of a more complex nonlinear process comprising nonresonant two-photon absorption, such as resonance-mediated (2+1)-three-photon absorption and (2+1)-resonant multiphoton ionization.  相似文献

The goal of this work is to derive the angular distributions of electrons irradiated at the outer ionization of large atomic clusters from Xe atoms by relativistic laser pulses taking into account rescattering processes. Both the magnetic field of the laser pulse and the Coulomb field of the ionized cluster significantly influence the rescattering of ejected electrons. The multiply inner ionization of atoms occurs at the leading edge of the laser pulse. The atomic ions with charge multiplicities up to Z = 26 are subsequently produced (each atomic ion with the next charge multiplicity appears in 3–5 fs) when the laser intensity increases. The measurements of the angular distributions of electrons allow us to reproduce the imaging dynamics of outer ionization of the cluster at the leading edge of the relativistic femtosecond laser pulse.  相似文献

 利用脉冲分子束-激光电离-飞行时间质谱仪,在109~1012 W·cm-2激光功率密度条件下,考察了Nd:YAG激光器输出的1 064,532,266 nm波长的激光与苯、氨、硫化氢等团簇的相互作用。发现1 064 nm的激光可以电离分子束产生高离化态的C4+,N5+,S6+等离子;波长为532 nm的激光则电离产生价态较低的C3+,C2+,N3+,N2+, S4+,S3+以及S2+ 等离子;在266 nm波长条件下进行实验,没有产生任何高价离子。提出了一个“多光子电离引发-逆轫致吸收加热-电子碰撞电离”模型来解释高价离子的产生。激光场下电子在团簇内部的逆轫致加热是整个过程的关键步骤,电子被加热的速度正比于激光波长的平方。这可以解释为何长波长的激光有利于更高价态离子的产生。  相似文献

The histograms of deflection angles of electrons ejected from Xe clusters irradiated by femtosecond super-intense laser pulses are presented. The dependence of the angular distribution on the peak laser intensity, the pulse duration, and the cluster position is considered. A clear relationship between the final electron energy and the deflection angle is shown. The deflection angles are calculated by solving the relativistic equation of motion taking into account the Lorentz force and the Coulomb field of the ionized cluster. The ions in the cluster undergo sequential multiple ionization up to charge multiplicity Z = 26. The measurements of the electron angular distributions allow us to reproduce the imaging dynamics of outer ionization of the cluster at the leading edge of the relativistic femtosecond laser pulse.  相似文献

The intensity dependence of the multiphoton ionization spectra of Xe atoms has been investigated with an improved accuracy and well-controlled laser parameters. In particular, we have examined the ionization rates for X3+, X2−, X+ as functions of the laser intensity and the pressure in the target chamber. The apparatus used for these measurements is characterized by a high-energy resolution (better than 200 meV) and a completely digital acquisition system. The time-of-flight spectra clearly show the contributions of the different isotopes present in Xe gas. The laser pulses have been characterized with great accuracy by monitoring the energy, pulse width and divergence shot by shot. The ionization rates of the different ions have been used for testing the basic assumption of the Geltman theory of multiple ionization based on the single electron ionization model. We have found that for the small intensity range investigated the quantity (dXe +/dI)·(dXe 3+/dI)/(dXe 2+/dI)2 appears to be quite close to the value 0.5 predicted by this model.  相似文献

We present our latest results on the generation of ultrashort vacuum UV (VUV) pulses by nonresonant four-wave mixing of chirped broadband pulses generated by filamentation of the fundamental of a Ti:sapphire laser with relatively narrowband pulses at the third harmonic. Positive chirp at the broadband idler yields negatively chirped VUV pulses necessary to compensate for material dispersion of a MgF(2) window in the VUV beam path. Pulse energies exceeding 400 nJ are available for time-resolved experiments. Pulse duration is measured by pump-probe ionization of Xe gas, providing the cross correlation between the fifth harmonic and the fundamental.  相似文献

为了进一步理解极端条件下物质的电离特性, 特别是超短超强激光脉冲辐照超薄靶时等离子体的形成与分布, 本文以超薄碳膜为例, 细致研究了超短超强激光脉冲辐照下原子的离化过程. 分析和比较了强激光场直接作用电离和靶内静电场电离等两种场致电离形式, 在碰撞电离可以忽略的情况下, 发现更多的电离份额是来自靶内静电场的电离方式. 研究了激光脉冲强度对电离的影响, 发现激光脉冲强度越强, 电离速度越快, 产生的高价态离子所占比例也越高.当激光强度为1×1020 W/cm2时, 尽管该强度高于电离生成C+6所需要的激光强度阈值, 但该激光脉冲并不能将整个靶电离成C+6离子, 对此本文进行了详细的分析. 在研究激光脉冲宽度的影响时, 发现激光脉宽越小, 电离速度越快, 但越小的激光脉冲电离获得的高价态离子越少.  相似文献

We report on detailed investigations of ionization dynamics of a Xe atom exposed to intense 800-nm pulses of 20-fs duration in the extensive intensity range from 10(13)-10(18) W/cm(2). Ion yields of Xe+-Xe20+ were observed as a function of laser intensity and compared with the results from a single active electron based Ammosov-Delone-Krainov model. Unexpected ionization probabilities for lower charge states and no interplay between the inner and outer shells by screening are inferred. Suppression of nonsequential ionization towards higher intensity and few optical cycle regimes is also proved.  相似文献

Excimer laser preionization induced by an external laser was investigated for XeF excimer laser discharge induced by a KrF laser, paying attention to the ionized species in the gas. Enhancement of amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) was observed for XeF gas discharge preionized by a KrF laser with and without its irradiation. In contrast, no ASE enhancement was observed for KrF gas discharge with KrF laser preionization. ASE enhancement was larger for the longer wavelength, which was close to the two-photon resonance of the Xe atom, when tunable KrF laser irradiation was used. These results indicate that multi-photon ionization of Xe atoms supplied the initial electrons to the laser-induced preionization.  相似文献

In this Letter, we report, for the first time in the multiphoton ionization regime, a comparison study of single-electron ionization of diatomic molecules versus rare gas atoms with virtually the same ionization potentials. In comparing N2+ to Ar+, a higher ion signal is seen in N2+ compared to Ar+ for linear polarization but the difference vanishes in circularly polarized light. In comparing O2+ to Xe+, we observe a suppression in O2+ compared to Xe+ for both linear and circular polarization but this suppression exhibits an intensity dependence; i.e., there is little suppression for O2+ at the lowest intensity range, but the suppression becomes increasingly stronger as the laser intensity increases. The multielectron screening model is used to discuss possible mechanisms of this intensity dependent suppression in O2+ in the multiphoton ionization regime.  相似文献

The response of Ar clusters to intense vacuum-ultraviolet pulses is investigated with photoion spec-troscopy. By varying the laser wavelength, the initial excitation was either tuned to absorption bands of surface or bulk atoms of clusters. Multiple ionization is observed, which leads to Coulomb explosion. The efficiency of resonant 2-photon ionization for initial bulk and surface excitation is compared with that of the nonresonant process at different laser intensities. The specific electronic structure of clusters plays almost no role in the explosion dynamics at a peak intensity larger than 1.8 x 10(12) W/cm(2). The inner ionization of atoms for resonant and nonresonant excitation is then saturated and the energy deposition is mainly controlled by the plasma heating rate. Molecular dynamics simulations indicate that standard collisional heating cannot fully account for the strong energy absorption.  相似文献

The ionization dynamics of Ar and Xe clusters irradiated with intense vacuum ultraviolet light from a free-electron laser is investigated using photoelectron spectroscopy. Clusters comprising between 70 and 900 atoms were irradiated with femtosecond pulses at 95 nm wavelength (approximately 13 eV photon energy) and a peak intensity of approximately 4 x 10(12) W/cm2. A broad thermal distribution of emitted electrons from clusters with a maximum kinetic energy up to 30-40 eV is observed. The observation of relatively low-energy photoelectrons is in good agreement with calculations using a time-dependent Thomas-Fermi model and gives experimental evidence of an outer ionization process of the clusters, due to delayed thermoelectronic emission.  相似文献

Of importance are parameters such as laser intensity, pulse duration, and laser wavelength for a quantitative characterization and thereby improvement of MBE sources. This would help to optimize the epitaxial growth process. Ultrafast laser ablation of fused silica is studied using molecular dynamics simulations. Ionization and generation of free electrons, absorption of the laser energy by free electrons and energy coupling between free electrons and ions are considered. The BKS potential is applied and modified to describe molecular interactions and the effect of free electrons. Smooth particle mesh of the Ewald method (SPME) is adopted to calculate the Coulomb force. It is found that the electrostatic Coulomb force, which is caused by the ionization, plays an important role in the laser ablation process.  相似文献

在现有的一维粒子模拟程序的基础上发展了带光电离和碰撞电离及蒙特卡罗两体碰撞的模拟程序(1D PIC-MCC). 用此程序模拟研究了短脉冲激光与He气靶相互作用时电子和离子的加速过程. 研究表明当强激光与过临界密度的微米厚度的平面靶相互作用时,靶前表面物质将被激光脉冲前沿迅速离化;新生的电子被激光场有质动力加速成为高能电子,这些电子穿入到靶内,通过电子碰撞电离离化靶内物质;一部分高能电子穿透靶后,会在靶的后表面形成强的电荷分离场,该场迅速离化靶后表面物质,同时使得后表面离子得到加速. 部分穿透靶的超热电子将被电荷分离场重新拉回靶内,在靶的前后表面振荡. 一些振荡电子在此过程中得到电荷分离场加速,离开前表面,在前表面也形成电荷分离场,使前表面离子得到加速. 关键词: 激光等离子体 光电离和碰撞电离 电子加速 离子加速  相似文献
