Monte Carlo simulations were made of two- and three-dimensional Ising models containing up to 1503 and 13952 sites in a randomly oriented field ±H. A spontaneous magnetization was observed to build up at low enough temperatures, even if initially the spins were disordered. The time required for this build-up was observed to increase with some power of the system size for short times, and possibly exponentially with the square root of the length for larger times.Dedicated to B. General conservation equations are derived for 2D dense granular flows from the Euler equation within the Boussinesq approximation. In steady flows, the 2D fields of granular temperature, vorticity and stream function are shown to be encoded in two scalar functions only. We checked such prediction on steady surface flows in a rotating drum simulated through the Non-Smooth Contact Dynamics method even though granular flows are dissipative and therefore not necessarily compatible with Euler equation. Finally, we briefly discuss some possible ways to predict theoretically these two functions using statistical mechanics.  相似文献

We investigate the low-temperature critical behavior of the three-dimensional random-field Ising ferromagnet. By a scaling analysis we find that in the limit of temperature T → 0 the usual scaling relations have to be modified as far as the exponent α of the specific heat is concerned. At zero temperature, the Rushbrooke equation is modified to α + 2β + γ = 1, an equation which we expect to be valid also for other systems with similar critical behavior. We test the scaling theory numerically for the three-dimensional random-field Ising system with Gaussian probability distribution of the random fields by a combination of calculations of exact ground states with an integer optimization algorithm and Monte Carlo methods. By a finite-size scaling analysis we calculate the critical exponents ν ≈ 1.0, β ≈ 0.05,

≈ 2.9, γ ≈ 1.5 and α ≈ −0.55.  相似文献

Within the perturbation diagrammatic expansion we discuss the origin of differences in determinations of the lower critical dimension of the random-field Ising model and show that below four dimensions metastability and hysteresis occur. We also explain the occurrence of a quasicritical d=2 behavior at weak random fields, which is responsible for local stability of the ordered state above two dimensions.  相似文献

We study hysteresis in the random-field Ising model with an asymmetric distribution of quenched fields, in the limit of low disorder in two and three dimensions. We relate the spin flip process to bootstrap percolation, and show that the characteristic length for self-averaging L small star, filled increases as exp[exp(J/Delta)] in 2D, and as exp(exp[exp(J/Delta)]) in 3D, for disorder strength Delta much less than the exchange coupling J. For system size 1infinity for both square and cubic lattices. For lattices with coordination number 3, the limiting magnetization shows no jump, and h(coer) tends to J.  相似文献

We investigate, by means of extensive Monte Carlo simulations, the magnetic critical behavior of the three-dimensional bimodal random-field Ising model at the strong disorder regime. We present results in favor of the two-exponent scaling scenario, [`(h)]\bar{\eta} = 2η, where η and [`(h)]\bar{\eta} are the critical exponents describing the power-law decay of the connected and disconnected correlation functions and we illustrate, using various finite-size measures and properly defined noise to signal ratios, the strong violation of self-averaging of the model in the ordered phase.  相似文献

The trimodal random-field spin- Ising system in a transverse field is investigated by combining the pair approximation with the discretized path-integral representation by introducing a parameter p to simulate the fractions of the spins not exposed to the external longitudinal magnetic field. The variation of the critical reduced transverse field and longitudinal magnetic field with the parameter p is studied for different coordination numbers and it is found that the system does not exhibit any tricritical points for p>0.22. The phase diagrams with respect to the external longitudinal random-field and the second-order phase transition temperature are obtained for given values of the transverse field, coordination numbers and the parameter p. It is found that for appropriate values of the system parameters the system does present tricritical points and reentrant phase transitions, which may be caused by the competition between the quantum effects and randomness.  相似文献

We prove that the three-dimensional Ising model in a random magnetic field exhibits long-range order at zero temperature and small disorder. Hence the lower critical dimension for this model is two (or less) and not three as has been suggested by some.Junior Fellow, Society of Fellows.
