LetA be an abelian variety defined over a number fieldK. LetL be a finite Galois extension ofK with Galois groupG and let III(A/K) and III(A/L) denote, respectively, the Tate-Shafarevich groups ofA overK and ofA overL. Assuming these groups are finite, we compute [III(A/L) G ]/[III(A/K)] and [III(A/K)]/[N(III(A/L))], where [X] is the order of a finite abelian groupX. Especially, whenL is a quadratic extension ofK, we derive a simple formula relating [III(A/L)], [III(A/K)], and [III(A x/K)] whereA x is the twist ofA by the non-trivial characterχ ofG.  相似文献

LetK be a number field. Denote byV 3 a split Del Pezzo surface of degree six overK and by ω its canonical divisor. Denote byW 3 the open complement of the exceptional lines inV 3. LetN W s(−ω, X) be the number ofK-rational points onW 3 whose anticanonical heightH −ω is bounded byX. Manin has conjectured that asymptoticallyN W 3(−ω, X) tends tocX(logX)3, wherec is a constant depending only on the number field and on the normalization of the height. Our goal is to prove the following theorem: For each number fieldK there exists a constantc K such thatN W 3(−ω, X)≤cKX(logX)3+2r , wherer is the rank of the group of units ofO K. The constantc K is far from being optimal. However, ifK is a purely imaginary quadratic field, this proves an upper bound with a correct power of logX. The proof of Manin's conjecture for arbitrary number fields and a precise treatment of the constants would require a more sophisticated setting, like the one used by [Peyre] to prove Manin's conjecture and to compute the correct asymptotic constant (in some normalization) in the caseK=ℚ. Up to now the best result for arbitraryK goes back, as far as we know, to [Manin-Tschinkel], who gives an upper boundN W 3(−ω,X)≤cXl+ε. The author would like to express his gratitude to Daniel Coray and Per Salberger for their generous and indispensable support.  相似文献

LetO be a curve in the affine algebroide-space over a fieldK of characteristic zero. LetD be the module ofK-derivations andP the relation ideal ofO. Generators forD andP are computed in several cases. It is shown in particular that in the case of a monomial curve defined by a sequence ofe positive integers somee−1 of which form an arithmetic sequence, μO ≤ 2e - 3 and μ(P)≤e(e−1)/2.  相似文献

LetB d be thed-dimensional unit ball and, for an integern, letC n ={x 1,...,x n } be a packing set forB d , i.e.,|x i −x j |≥2, 1≤i<j≤n. We show that for every a dimensiond(ρ) exists such that, ford≥d(ρ),V(conv(C n )+ρB d )≥V(conv(S n )+ρB d ), whereS n is a “sausage” arrangement ofn balls, holds. This gives considerable improvement to Fejes Tóth's “sausage” conjecture in high dimensions. Further, we prove that, for every convex bodyK and ρ<1/32d −2,V(conv(C n )+ρK)≥V(conv(S n )+ρK), whereC n is a packing set with respect toK andS n is a minimal “sausage” arrangement ofK, holds.  相似文献

Using the continuum hypothesis we construct a compact spaceK such that the spaceM (K)) of measures onK is vaguely separable, i.e., thatC (K) is injected intol , but thatC (K) is not isomorphic to a subspace ofl . It is shown that ifC(K) is isomorphic to a subspace ofC (K) is positively isometric to a subspace ofl (⌈). Nevertheless, under the continuum hypothesis one can construct a compact spaceL such that the spaceM 1 + (L) of probabilities onL is vaguely separable, butL cannot be the support of a measureμ withL 1(μ) separable in the norm.   相似文献

We present a homological principle that governs the behaviour of couples of exact sequences of quasi-Banach spaces. Three applications are given: (i) A unifying method of proof for the results of Lindenstrauss, Rosenthal, Kalton, Peck and Kislyakov about the extension and lifting of isomorphisms inc 0,ι ,ι p andL pfor 0<p≤1; (ii) A study of the Dunford-Pettis property in duals of quotients ofL -spaces; and (iii) New results on the extension ofC(K)-valued operators. A fieldK is called stable if every finitely generaed regular field extensionF/K has a transcendence basex 1, …,x n with the following properties: The field extensionF/K(x 1,…,x n ) is separable and the Galois hull ofF/K(x 1,…,x n ) remains regular overK, i.e.K is algebraically closed in . We prove in this paper thatevery field is stable. This generalizes results from [FJ1] and [GJ] which prove that fields of characteristic 0 and infinite perfect fields are stable, respectively. [G] showed that finite fields are stable in dimension 1, i.e. every finitely generated regular field extension of transcendence degree 1 over a finite field has a stable transcendence base. In the last section of this paper we apply the theorem to the construction of PAC fields with additional properties. A fieldK is called PAC if every absolutely irreducible variety overK has at least oneK-rational point.  相似文献

We consider the following problem: For a smooth plane curve C of degree d ≥ 4 in characteristic p > 0, determine the number δ(C) of inner Galois points with respect to C. This problem seems to be open in the case where d ≡ 1 mod p and C is not a Fermat curve F(p e  + 1) of degree p e  + 1. When p ≠ 2, we completely determine δ(C). If p = 2 (and C is in the open case), then we prove that δ(C) = 0, 1 or d and δ(C) = d only if d−1 is a power of 2, and give an example with δ(C) = d when d = 5. As an application, we characterize a smooth plane curve having both inner and outer Galois points. On the other hand, for Klein quartic curve with suitable coordinates in characteristic two, we prove that the set of outer Galois points coincides with the one of \mathbbF2{\mathbb{F}_{2}} -rational points in \mathbbP2{\mathbb{P}^{2}}.  相似文献

Let be a polynomial dominant mapping and let deg f i d. We prove that the set K(f) of generalized critical values of f is contained in the algebraic hypersurface of degree at most D=(d+s(m−1)(d−1)) n , where . This implies in particular that the set B(f) of bifurcations points of f is contained in the hypersurface of degree at most D=(d+s(m−1)(d−1)) n . We give also an algorithm to compute the set K(f) effectively. Given a specification linear operatorS, we want to test an implementation linear operatorA and determine whether it conforms to the specification operator according to an error criterion. In an earlier paper [3], we studied a worst case error in which we test whether the error is no more than a given bound ε>0 for all elements in a given setF, i.e., sup fεf∥Sf—Af∥≤ε. In this work, we study the average error instead, i. e., ∫ F Sf-Af2μ(df)ɛ≤2, where μ is a probability measure onF. We assume that an upper boundK on the norm of the difference ofS andA is given a priori. It turns out that any finite number of tests is in general inconclusive with the average error. Therefore, as in the worst case, we allow a relaxation parameter α>0 and test for weak conformance with an error bound (1+α)ε. Then a finite number of tests from an arbitrary orthogonal complete sequence is conclusive. Furthermore, the eigenvectors of the covariance operatorC μ of the probability measure μ provide an almost optimal test sequence. This implies that the test set isuniversal; it only depends on the set of valid inputsF and the measure μ, and is independent ofS, A, and the other parameters of the problem. However, the minimal number of tests does depend on all the parameters of the testing problem, i.e., ε, α,K, and the eigenvalues ofC μ. In contrast to the worst case setting, it also depends on the dimensiond of the range space ofS andA. Hurwitz moduli spaces for G-covers of the projective line have two classical variants whether G-covers are considered modulo the action of PGL2 on the base or not. A central result of this paper is that, given an integer r ≥ 3 there exists a bound d(r) ≥ 1 depending only on r such that any rational point p rd of a reduced (i.e., modulo PGL2) Hurwitz space can be lifted to a rational point p on the nonreduced Hurwitz space with [κ(p): κ(p rd)] ≤ d(r). This result can also be generalized to infinite towers of Hurwitz spaces. Introducing a new Galois invariant for G-covers, which we call the base invariant, we improve this result for G-covers with a nontrivial base invariant. For the sublocus corresponding to such G-covers the bound d(r) can be chosen depending only on the base invariant (no longer on r) and ≤ 6. When r = 4, our method can still be refined to provide effective criteria to lift k-rational points from reduced to nonreduced Hurwitz spaces. This, in particular, leads to a rigidity criterion, a genus 0 method and, what we call an expansion method to realize finite groups as regular Galois groups over ℚ. Some specific examples are given.  相似文献

Let K be a field and S=K[x 1,…,x n ]. In 1982, Stanley defined what is now called the Stanley depth of an S-module M, denoted sdepth (M), and conjectured that depth (M)≤sdepth (M) for all finitely generated S-modules M. This conjecture remains open for most cases. However, Herzog, Vladoiu and Zheng recently proposed a method of attack in the case when M=I/J with JI being monomial S-ideals. Specifically, their method associates M with a partially ordered set. In this paper we take advantage of this association by using combinatorial tools to analyze squarefree Veronese ideals in S. In particular, if I n,d is the squarefree Veronese ideal generated by all squarefree monomials of degree d, we show that if 1≤dn<5d+4, then sdepth (I n,d )=⌊(nd)/(d+1)⌋+d, and if d≥1 and n≥5d+4, then d+3≤sdepth (I n,d )≤⌊(nd)/(d+1)⌋+d.  相似文献

Summary Here we prove the following result. Fix integersq, τ,a’, b’, a’ i, 1≤i≤τ,a’, b’, a’ i, 1≤i≤τ; then there is an integerew such that for every integertw, for every algebraically closed fieldK for every smooth complete surfaceX with negative Kodaira dimension, irregularityq andK X 2 =8(1−q)−τ, the following condition holds; ifXS is a sequence fo τ blowing-downs which gives a relatively minimal model with ruling ρ:SC, take as basis of the Neron Severi groupNS(X) a smooth rational curve which is the total transform of a fiber ofC, the total transform of a minimal section of ρ and the total transformD i, 1≤i≤τ, of the exceptional curver; then for everyH andL∈Pic (X) withH ample,H (resp.L) represented by the integersa’, b’, a’ i, (resp.a’, b’, a’ i), 1≤i≤τ, in the chosen basis ofNS(X) the moduli spaceM(ZX, 2,H, L, t) of rank 2H-stable vector bundles onX with determinantL andc 2=t is generically smooth and the number, dimension and ?birational structure? of the irreducible components ofM(X, 2,H, L, t)red do not depend on the choice ofK andX. Furthermore the birational structure of these irreducible components can be loosely described in terms of the birational structure of the components of suitableM(S, 2,H’, L’, t’)red withS a relatively minimal model ofX.

On conditional edge-connectivity of graphs   总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6
1. IntroductionIn this paper, a graph G ~ (V,E) always means a simple graph (without loops andmultiple edges) with the vertex-set V and the edge-set E. We follow [1] for graph-theoreticalterllilnology and notation not defined here.It is well known that when the underlying topology of a computer interconnectionnetwork is modeled by a graph G, the edge-connectivity A(G) of G is an important measurefor fault-tolerance of the network. However, it has many deficiencies (see [2]). MotiVatedby t…  相似文献

We show that in the worst case, Ω(n d ) sidedness queries are required to determine whether a set ofn points in ℝ d is affinely degenerate, i.e., whether it containsd+1 points on a common hyperplane. This matches known upper bounds. We give a straightforward adversary argument, based on the explicit construction of a point set containing Ω(n d ) “collapsible” simplices, any one of which can be made degenerate without changing the orientation of any other simplex. As an immediate corollary, we have an Ω(n d ) lower bound on the number of sidedness queries required to determine the order type of a set ofn points in ℝ d . Using similar techniques, we also show that Ω(n d+1) in-sphere queries are required to decide the existence of spherical degeneracies in a set ofn points in ℝ d . LetP(v, d) be a stackedd-polytope withv vertices, δ(P(v, d)) the boundary complex ofP(v, d), andk[Δ(P(v, d))] =A/I Δ(P(v,d)) the Stanley-Reisner ring of Δ(P(v,d)) over a fieldk. We compute the Betti numbers which appear in a minimal free resolution ofk[Δ(P(v,d))] overA, and show that every Betti number depends only onv andd and is independent of the base fieldk. We also show that the Betti number sequences above are unimodal.  相似文献

In this note we are going to show that if M is a left module over a left noetherian ring R of the infinite cardinality λ ≥ |R|, then its injective hull E(M) is of the same size. Further, if M is an injective module with |M| ≥ (2λ)+ and KM is its submodule such that |M/K| ≤ λ, then K contains an injective submodule L with |M/L| ≤ 2λ. These results are applied to modules which are torsionfree with respect to a given hereditary torsion theory and generalize the results obtained by different methods in author’s previous papers: [A note on pure subgroups, Contributions to General Algebra 12. Proceedings of the Vienna Conference, June 3–6, 1999, Verlag Johannes Heyn, Klagenfurt, 2000, pp. 105–107], [Pure subgroups, Math. Bohem. 126 (2001), 649–652]. We show that Hausdorff measures of different dimensions are not Borel isomorphic; that is, the measure spaces (ℝ, B, H s ) and (ℝ, B, H t ) are not isomorphic if st, s, t ∈ [0, 1], where B is the σ-algebra of Borel subsets of ℝ and H d is the d-dimensional Hausdorff measure. This answers a question of B. Weiss and D. Preiss. To prove our result, we apply a random construction and show that for every Borel function ƒ: ℝ → ℝ and for every d ∈ [0, 1] there exists a compact set C of Hausdorff dimension d such that ƒ(C) has Hausdorff dimension ≤ d. We also prove this statement in a more general form: If A ⊂ ℝn is Borel and ƒ: A → ℝm is Borel measurable, then for every d ∈ [0, 1] there exists a Borel set BA such that dim B = d·dim A and dim ƒ(B) ≤ d·dim ƒ (A).
