We investigate a class of area preserving non-uniformly hyperbolic maps of the two torus. First we establish some results on the regularity of the invariant foliations, then we use this knowledge to estimate the rate of mixing.  相似文献

We exhibit scarring for the quantization of certain nonlinear ergodic maps on the torus. We consider perturbations of hyperbolic toral automorphisms preserving certain co-isotropic submanifolds. The classical dynamics is ergodic, hence, in the semiclassical limit almost all quantum eigenstates converge to the volume measure of the torus. Nevertheless, we show that for each of the invariant submanifolds, there are also eigenstates which localize and converge to the volume measure of the corresponding submanifold.  相似文献

A one parameter family of piecewise linear measure preserving transformations of a torus which can be viewed as a perturbation of the twist mapping is introduced. Theorems on their ergodic properties for an infinite set of parameters are proved. For some parameters coexistence of stochastic and integrable behaviour is obtained.  相似文献

The invariant manifolds (or “classical eigenstates”) in the phase space of bound integrable dynamical systems are known to be tori. Sections and projections of general, and special, two dimensional tori in four dimensional phase space are considered. Particular attention is paid to the families of projections accessed by linear canonical transformation since these can (in a certain sense) be considered to be different views of the same torus. The Wigner phase space representation of the corresponding semiclassical quantum eigenstate for a torus of any dimensionality is examined following the analysis of M. V. Berry (Phil. Trans. Roy. Soc.287 (1977), 237) for one dimensional tori. In this, the value of the semiclassical Wigner function at any phase space point depends on the behaviour of the chords of the torus centred on that point. It is found that for a two dimensional torus the number of such chords is always even. The three dimensional surfaces across which the number of chords changes constitute a (double) fold catastrophe on which the function oscillates with large amplitude. On the torus manifold itself this “Wigner caustic” generally exhibits a hyperbolic umbilic singularity (possibly interspersed with elliptic regions). At special lines and points on the torus, however, higher catastrophes up to E8 are generic.  相似文献

The problem of transition to chaos, i.e. the destruction of invariant circles or KAM (Kolmogorov-Arnold-Moser) curves, in area preserving nontwist maps is studied within the renormalization group framework. Nontwist maps are maps for which the twist condition is violated along a curve known as the shearless curve. In renormalization language this problem is that of finding and studying the fixed points of the renormalization group operator that acts on the space of maps. A simple period-two fixed point of , whose basin of attraction contains the nontwist maps for which the shearless curve exists, is found. Also, a critical period-12 fixed point of , with two unstable eigenvalues, is found. The basin of attraction of this critical fixed point contains the nontwist maps for which the shearless curve is at the threshold of destruction. This basin defines a new universality class for the transition to chaos in area preserving maps.  相似文献

The paper is devoted to generalization of the theory of loop groups to the two-dimensional case. To every complex Riemann surface we assign a central extension of the group of smooth maps from this surface to a simple complex Lie group G by the Jacobian of this surface. This extension is topologically nontrivial, as in the loop group case. Orbits of coadjoint representation of this extension correspond to equivalence classes of holomorphic principalG-bundles over the surface. When the surface is the torus (elliptic curve), classification of coadjoint orbits is related to linear difference equations in one variable, and to classification of conjugacy classes in the loop group. We study integral orbits, for which the Kirillov-Kostant form is a curvature form for some principal torus bundle. The number of such orbits for a given level is finite, as in the loop group case; conjecturedly, they correspond to analogues of integrable modules occurring in conformal field theory.  相似文献

We investigate linear parabolic maps on the torus. In a generic case these maps are non-invertible and discontinuous. Although the metric entropy of these systems is equal to zero, their dynamics is non-trivial due to folding of the image of the unit square into the torus. We study the structure of the maximal invariant set, and in a generic case we prove the sensitive dependence on the initial conditions. We study the decay of correlations and the diffusion in the corresponding system on the plane. We also demonstrate how the rationality of the real numbers defining the map influences the dynamical properties of the system.  相似文献

The Letter describes different mechanisms for the formation and destruction of tori that are formed as layered structures of several sets of interlacing manifolds, each with their associated stable and unstable resonance modes. We first illustrate how a three layered torus can arise in a system of two coupled logistic maps through period-doubling or pitchfork bifurcations of the saddle cycle on an ordinary resonance torus. We hereafter present two different scenarios by which a multilayered torus can be destructed. One scenario involves a cascade of period-doubling bifurcations of both the stable and the saddle cycles, and the second scenario describes a transition in which homoclinic bifurcations destroy first the two outer layers and thereafter also the inner layer of a three-layered torus. It is suggested that the formation of multilayered tori is a generic phenomenon in non-invertible maps.  相似文献

The AdS/Ricci-flat (AdS/RF) correspondence is a map between families of asymptotically locally AdS solutions on a torus and families of asymptotically flat spacetimes on a sphere. The aim of this work is to perturbatively extend this map to general AdS and asymptotically flat solutions. A prime application for such map would be the development of holography for Minkowski spacetime. In this paper we perform a Kaluza–Klein (KK) reduction of AdS on a torus and of Minkowski on a sphere, keeping all massive KK modes. Such computation is interesting on its own, as there are relatively few examples of such explicit KK reductions in the literature. We perform both KK reductions in parallel to illustrate their similarity. In particular, we show how to construct gauge invariant variables, find the field equations they satisfy, and construct a corresponding effective action. We further diagonalize all equations and find their general solution in closed form. Surprisingly, in the limit of large dimension of the compact manifolds (torus and sphere), the AdS/RF correspondence maps individual KK modes from one side to the other. In a sequel of this paper we will discuss how the AdS/RF maps acts on general linear perturbations.  相似文献

In this paper, we study in detail, both analytically and numerically, the dynamical properties of the triangle map, a piecewise parabolic automorphism of the two-dimensional torus, for different values of the two independent parameters defining the map. The dynamics is studied numerically by means of two different symbolic encoding schemes, both relying on the fact that it maps polygons to polygons: in the first scheme we consider dynamically generated partitions made out of suitable sets of disjoint polygons, in the second we consider the standard binary partition of the torus induced by the discontinuity set. These encoding schemes are studied in detail and shown to be compatible, although not equivalent. The ergodic properties of the triangle map are then investigated in terms of the Markov transition matrices associated to the above schemes and furthermore compared to the spectral properties of the Koopman operator in L2(T2). Finally, a stochastic version of the triangle map is introduced and studied. A simple heuristic analysis of the latter yields the correct statistical and scaling behaviours of the correlation functions of the original map.  相似文献

Rigorous inequalities among magnetic-flux free energies of tori with varying diameters are derived in lattice gauge theories. From the inequalities, it follows that if the magnetic-flux free energy vanishes in the limit of large uniform dilatation of a torus, the free energy must always decrease exponentially with the area of the cross section of the torus. The latter property is known to be sufficient for permanent confinement of static quarks. As a consequence of this property, a lower bound V(R) ? const · R for the static quark-antiquark potential is obtained in three-dimensional U(N) lattice gauge theory for sufficiently large R.  相似文献

We propose field theories for the bulk and edge of a quantum Hall state in the universality class of the Haldane-Rezayi wavefunction. The bulk theory is associated with the c = −2 conformal field theory. The topological properties of the state, such as the quasiparticle braiding statistics and ground state degeneracy on a torus, may be deduced from this conformal field theory. The 10-fold degeneracy on a torus is explained by the existence of a logarithmic operator in the c = −2 theory; this operator corresponds to a novel bulk excitation in the quantum Hall state. We argue that the edge theory is the c = 1 chiral Dirac fermion, which is related in a simple way to the c = −2 theory of the bulk. This theory is reformulated as a truncated version of a doublet of Dirac fermions in which the SU(2) symmetry - which corresponds to the spin-rotational symmetry of the quantum Hall system - is manifest and non-local. We make predictions for the current-voltage characteristics for transport through point contacts.  相似文献

It has been shown recently that torus formation in piecewise-smooth maps can occur through a special type of border collision bifurcation in which a pair of complex conjugate Floquet multipliers “jump” from the inside to the outside of the unit circle. It has also been shown that a large class of impacting mechanical systems yield piecewise-smooth maps with square-root singularity. In this Letter we investigate the dynamics of a two-dimensional piecewise-smooth map with square-root type nonlinearity, and describe two new routes to chaos through the destruction of two-frequency torus. In the first scenario, we identify the transition to chaos through the destruction of a loop torus via homoclinic bifurcation. In the other scenario, a change of structure in the torus occurs via heteroclinic saddle connections. Further parameter changes lead to a homoclinic bifurcation resulting in the creation of a chaotic attractor. However, this scenario is much more complex, with the appearance of a sequence of heteroclinic and homoclinic bifurcations.  相似文献

Deformations of associative algebras in which time is the deformation parameter are constructed using quantum stochastic flows in which the usual multiplicativity requirement is replaced by multiplicativity with respect to the deformed multiplication. The theory is restricted by a commutativity requirement on the structure maps of the flow, but examples which can be constructed in this way include the noncommutative torus and the Weyl–Moyal deformation.  相似文献

We prove a strong version of quantum ergodicity for linear hyperbolic maps of the torus (“cat maps”). We show that there is a density one sequence of integers so that as N tends to infinity along this sequence, all eigenfunctions of the quantum propagator at inverse Planck constant N are uniformly distributed. A key step in the argument is to show that for a hyperbolic matrix in the modular group, there is a density one sequence of integers N for which its order (or period) modulo N is somewhat larger than . Open quantum systems weakly coupled to the environment are modeled by completely positive, trace preserving semigroups of linear maps. The generators of such evolutions are called Lindbladians. In the setting of quantum many-body systems on a lattice it is natural to consider Lindbladians that decompose into a sum of local interactions with decreasing strength with respect to the size of their support. For both practical and theoretical reasons, it is crucial to estimate the impact that perturbations in the generating Lindbladian, arising as noise or errors, can have on the evolution. These local perturbations are potentially unbounded, but constrained to respect the underlying lattice structure. We show that even for polynomially decaying errors in the Lindbladian, local observables and correlation functions are stable if the unperturbed Lindbladian has a unique fixed point and a mixing time that scales logarithmically with the system size. The proof relies on Lieb–Robinson bounds, which describe a finite group velocity for propagation of information in local systems. As a main example, we prove that classical Glauber dynamics is stable under local perturbations, including perturbations in the transition rates, which may not preserve detailed balance.  相似文献

We study numerically the periodic orbits of the Casati-Prosen map, a two-parameter reversible map of the torus, with zero entropy. For rational parameter values, this map preserves rational lattices, and each lattice decomposes into periodic orbits. We consider the distribution function of the periods over prime lattices, and its dependence on the parameters of the map. Based on extensive numerical evidence, we conjecture that, asymptotically, almost all orbits are symmetric, and that for a set of rational parameters having full density, the distribution function approaches the gamma-distribution R(x)=1−ex(1+x). These properties, which have been proved to hold for random reversible maps, were previously thought to require a stronger form of deterministic randomness, such as that displayed by rational automorphisms over finite fields. Furthermore, we show that the gamma-distribution is the limit of a sequence of singular distributions which are observed on certain lines in parameter space. Our experiments reveal that the convergence rate to R is highly non-uniform in parameter space, being slowest in sharply-defined regions reminiscent of resonant zones in Hamiltonian perturbation theory.  相似文献
