In this article, we study an explicit scheme for the solution of sine‐Gordon equation when the space discretization is carried out by an overlapping multidomain pseudo‐spectral technique. By using differentiation matrices, the equation is reduced to a nonlinear system of ordinary differential equations in time that can be discretized with the explicit fourth‐order Runge–Kutta method. To achieve approximation with high accuracy in large domains, the number of space grid points must be large enough. This yields very large and full matrices in the pseudo‐spectral method that causes large memory requirements. The domain decomposition approach provides sparsity in the matrices obtained after the discretization, and this property reduces storage for large matrices and provides economical ways of performing matrix–vector multiplications. Therefore, we propose a multidomain pseudo‐spectral method for the numerical simulation of the sine‐Gordon equation in large domains. Test examples are given to demonstrate the accuracy and capability of the proposed method. Numerical experiments show that the multidomain scheme has an excellent long‐time numerical behavior for the sine‐Gordon equation in one and two dimensions. The pseudo‐spectral Legendre–Galerkin method (PS‐LGM) is applied to solve a nonlinear partial integro‐differential equation arising in population dynamics. This equation is a competition model in which similar individuals are competing for the same resources. It is a kind of reaction–diffusion equation with integral term corresponding to nonlocal consumption of resources. The proposed method is based on the Legendre–Galerkin formulation for the linear terms and interpolation operator at the Chebyshev–Gauss–Lobatto (CGL) points for the nonlinear terms. Also, the integral term, which is a kind of convolution, is directly computed by a fast and accurate method based on CGL interpolation operator, and thus, the use of any quadrature formula in its computation is avoided. The main difference of the PS‐LGM presented in the current paper with the classic LGM is in treating the nonlinear terms and imposing boundary conditions. Indeed, in the PS‐LGM, the nonlinear terms are efficiently handled using the CGL points, and also the boundary conditions are imposed strongly as collocation methods. Combination of the PS‐LGM with a semi‐implicit time integration method such as second‐order backward differentiation formula and Adams‐Bashforth method leads to reducing the complexity of computations and obtaining a linear algebraic system of equations with banded coefficient matrix. The desired equation is considered on one and two‐dimensional spatial domains. Efficiency, accuracy, and convergence of the proposed method are demonstrated numerically in both cases. A Legendre–Gauss–Lobatto spectral collocation method is introduced for the numerical solutions of a class of nonlinear delay differential equations. An efficient algorithm is designed for the single‐step scheme and applied to the multiple‐domain case. As a theoretical result, we obtain a general convergence theorem for the single‐step case. Numerical results show that the suggested algorithm enjoys high‐order accuracy both in time and in the delayed argument and can be implemented in a robust and efficient manner. In this article, we introduce a new space‐time spectral collocation method for solving the one‐dimensional sine‐Gordon equation. We apply a spectral collocation method for discretizing spatial derivatives, and then use the spectral collocation method for the time integration of the resulting nonlinear second‐order system of ordinary differential equations (ODE). Our formulation has high‐order accurate in both space and time. Optimal a priori error bounds are derived in the L2‐norm for the semidiscrete formulation. Numerical experiments show that our formulation have exponential rates of convergence in both space and time. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this paper, we consider the numerical approximation of stochastic partial differential equations with nonlinear multiplicative trace class noise. Discretization is obtained by spectral collocation method in space, and semi‐implicit Euler method is used for the temporal approximation. Our purpose is to investigate the convergence of the proposed method. The rate of convergence is obtained, and some numerical examples are included to illustrate the estimated convergence rate.  相似文献

In this paper, a high‐order accurate numerical method for two‐dimensional semilinear parabolic equations is presented. We apply a Galerkin–Legendre spectral method for discretizing spatial derivatives and a spectral collocation method for the time integration of the resulting nonlinear system of ordinary differential equations. Our formulation can be made arbitrarily high‐order accurate in both space and time. Optimal a priori error bound is derived in the L2‐norm for the semidiscrete formulation. Extensive numerical results are presented to demonstrate the convergence property of the method, show our formulation have spectrally accurate in both space and time. We develop and analyze a spectral collocation method based on the Chebyshev–Gauss–Lobatto points for nonlinear delay differential equations with vanishing delays. We derive an a priori error estimate in the H1‐norm that is completely explicit with respect to the local time steps and the local polynomial degrees. Several numerical examples are provided to illustrate the theoretical results.  相似文献

In this article, our main goal is to render an idea to convert a nonlinear weakly singular Volterra integral equation to a non‐singular one by new fractional‐order Legendre functions. The fractional‐order Legendre functions are generated by change of variable on well‐known shifted Legendre polynomials. We consider a general form of singular Volterra integral equation of the second kind. Then the fractional Legendre–Gauss–Lobatto quadratures formula eliminates the singularity of the kernel of the integral equation. Finally, the Legendre pseudospectral method reduces the solution of this problem to the solution of a system of algebraic equations. This method also can be utilized on fractional differential equations as well. The comparison of results of the presented method and other numerical solutions shows the efficiency and accuracy of this method. Also, the obtained maximum error between the results and exact solutions shows that using the present method leads to accurate results and fast convergence for solving nonlinear weakly singular Volterra integral equations. In this paper the extension of the Legendre least-squares spectral element formulation to Chebyshev polynomials will be explained. The new method will be applied to the incompressible Navier–Stokes equations and numerical results, obtained for the lid-driven cavity flow at Reynolds numbers varying between 1000 and 7500, will be compared with the commonly used benchmark results. The new results reveal that the least-squares spectral element formulations based on the Legendre and Chebyshev Gauss–Lobatto Lagrange interpolating polynomials are equally accurate.  相似文献

In this article, the new exact travelling wave solutions of the nonlinear space‐time fractional Burger's, the nonlinear space‐time fractional Telegraph and the nonlinear space‐time fractional Fisher equations have been found. Based on a nonlinear fractional complex transformation, certain fractional partial differential equations can be turned into ordinary differential equations of integer order in the sense of the Jumarie's modified Riemann–Liouville derivative. The ‐expansion method is effective for constructing solutions to the nonlinear fractional equations, and it appears to be easier and more convenient by means of a symbolic computation system. In this paper, we develop an efficient matrix method based on two‐dimensional orthonormal Bernstein polynomials (2D‐OBPs) to provide approximate solution of linear and nonlinear weakly singular partial integro‐differential equations (PIDEs). First, we approximate all functions involved in the considerable problem via 2D‐OBPs. Then, by using the operational matrices of integration, differentiation, and product, the solution of Volterra singular PIDEs is transformed to the solution of a linear or nonlinear system of algebraic equations which can be solved via some suitable numerical methods. With a small number of bases, we can find a reasonable approximate solution. Moreover, we establish some useful theorems for discussing convergence analysis and obtaining an error estimate associated with the proposed method. Finally, we solve some illustrative examples by employing the presented method to show the validity, efficiency, high accuracy, and applicability of the proposed technique.  相似文献

An optimal nonlinear Galerkin method with mixed finite elements is developed for solving the two‐dimensional steady incompressible Navier‐Stokes equations. This method is based on two finite element spaces XH and Xh for the approximation of velocity, defined on a coarse grid with grid size H and a fine grid with grid size h ? H, respectively, and a finite element space Mh for the approximation of pressure. We prove that the difference in appropriate norms between the solutions of the nonlinear Galerkin method and a classical Galerkin method is of the order of H5. If we choose H = O(h2/5), these two methods have a convergence rate of the same order. We numerically demonstrate that the optimal nonlinear Galerkin method is efficient and can save a large amount of computational time. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this paper, a numerical solution of fractional partial differential equations (FPDEs) for electromagnetic waves in dielectric media will be discussed. For the solution of FPDEs, we developed a numerical collocation method using an algorithm based on two‐dimensional shifted Legendre polynomials approximation, which is proposed for electromagnetic waves in dielectric media. By implementing the partial Riemann–Liouville fractional derivative operators, two‐dimensional shifted Legendre polynomials approximation and its operational matrix along with collocation method are used to convert FPDEs first into weakly singular fractional partial integro‐differential equations and then converted weakly singular fractional partial integro‐differential equations into system of algebraic equation. Some results concerning the convergence analysis and error analysis are obtained. Illustrative examples are included to demonstrate the validity and applicability of the technique. In the spectral Petrov‐Galerkin methods, the trial and test functions are required to satisfy particular boundary conditions. By a suitable linear combination of orthogonal polynomials, a basis, that is called the modal basis, is obtained. In this paper, we extend this idea to the nonorthogonal dual Bernstein polynomials. A compact general formula is derived for the modal basis functions based on dual Bernstein polynomials. Then, we present a Bernstein‐spectral Petrov‐Galerkin method for a class of time fractional partial differential equations with Caputo derivative. It is shown that the method leads to banded sparse linear systems for problems with constant coefficients. Some numerical examples are provided to show the efficiency and the spectral accuracy of the method.  相似文献

In this article, we develop a direct solution technique for solving multi-order fractional differential equations (FDEs) with variable coefficients using a quadrature shifted Legendre tau (Q-SLT) method. The spatial approximation is based on shifted Legendre polynomials. A new formula expressing explicitly any fractional-order derivatives of shifted Legendre polynomials of any degree in terms of shifted Legendre polynomials themselves is proved. Extension of the tau method for FDEs with variable coefficients is treated using the shifted Legendre–Gauss–Lobatto quadrature. Numerical results are given to confirm the reliability of the proposed method for some FDEs with variable coefficients.  相似文献

This article is devoted to solving numerically the nonlinear generalized Benjamin–Bona–Mahony–Burgers (GBBMB) equation that has several applications in physics and applied sciences. First, the time derivative is approximated by using a finite difference formula. Afterward, the stability and convergence analyses of the obtained time semi‐discrete are proven by applying the energy method. Also, it has been demonstrated that the convergence order in the temporal direction is O(dt) . Second, a fully discrete formula is acquired by approximating the spatial derivatives via Legendre spectral element method. This method uses Lagrange polynomial based on Gauss–Legendre–Lobatto points. An error estimation is also given in detail for full discretization scheme. Ultimately, the GBBMB equation in the one‐ and two‐dimension is solved by using the proposed method. Also, the calculated solutions are compared with theoretical solutions and results obtained from other techniques in the literature. The accuracy and efficiency of the mentioned procedure are revealed by numerical samples.  相似文献

A coupled boundary spectral element method (BSEM) and spectral element method (SEM) formulation for the propagation of small-amplitude water waves over variable bathymetries is presented in this work. The wave model is based on the mild-slope equation (MSE), which provides a good approximation of the propagation of water waves over irregular bottom surfaces with slopes up to 1:3. In unbounded domains or infinite regions, space can be divided into two different areas: a central region of interest, where an irregular bathymetry is included, and an exterior infinite region with straight and parallel bathymetric lines. The SEM allows us to model the central region, where any variation of the bathymetry can be considered, while the exterior infinite region is modelled by the BSEM which, combined with the fundamental solution presented by Cerrato et al. [A. Cerrato, J. A. González, L. Rodríguez-Tembleque, Boundary element formulation of the mild-slope equation for harmonic water waves propagating over unidirectional variable bathymetries, Eng. Anal. Boundary Elem. 62 (2016) 22–34.] can include bathymetries with straight and parallel contour lines. This coupled model combines important advantages of both methods; it benefits from the flexibility of the SEM for the interior region and, at the same time, includes the fulfilment of the Sommerfeld’s radiation condition for the exterior problem, that is provided by the BSEM. The solution approximation inside the elements is constructed by high order Legendre polynomials associated with Legendre–Gauss–Lobatto quadrature points, providing a spectral convergence for both methods. The proposed formulation has been validated in three different benchmark cases with different shapes of the bottom surface. The solutions exhibit the typical p-convergence of spectral methods.  相似文献

In this paper, a new two‐dimensional fractional polynomials based on the orthonormal Bernstein polynomials has been introduced to provide an approximate solution of nonlinear fractional partial Volterra integro‐differential equations. For this aim, the fractional‐order orthogonal Bernstein polynomials (FOBPs) are constructed, and its operational matrices of integration, fractional‐order integration, and derivative in the Caputo sense and product operational matrix are derived. These operational matrices are utilized to reduce the under study problem to a nonlinear system of algebraic equations. Using the approximation of FOBPs, the convergence analysis and error estimate associated to the proposed problem have been investigated. Finally, several examples are included to clarify the validity, efficiency, and applicability of the proposed technique via FOBPs approximation.  相似文献

In this paper, a spectral collocation approximation is proposed for neutral and nonlinear weakly singular Volterra integro‐differential equations (VIDEs) with non‐smooth solutions. We use some suitable variable transformations to change the original equation into a new equation, so that the solution of the resulting equation possesses better regularity, and the the Jacobi orthogonal polynomial theory can be applied conveniently. Under reasonable assumptions on the nonlinearity, we carry out a rigorous error analysis in L norm and weighted L2 norm. To perform the numerical simulations, some test examples (linear and nonlinear) are considered with nonsmooth solutions, and numerical results are presented. Further more, the comparative study of the proposed methods with some existing numerical methods is provided.  相似文献
