In this article, we study submanifolds in a pseudo‐sphere with 2‐type pseudo‐spherical Gauss map. We give a characterization theorem for Lorentzian surfaces in the pseudo‐sphere with zero mean curvature vector in and 2‐type pseudo‐spherical Gauss map. We also prove that non‐totally umbilical proper pseudo‐Riemannian hypersurfaces in a pseudo‐sphere with non‐zero constant mean curvature has 2‐type pseudo‐spherical Gauss map if and only if it has constant scalar curvature. Then, for we obtain the classification of surfaces in with 2‐type pseudo‐spherical Gauss map. Finally, we give an example of surface with null 2‐type pseudo‐spherical Gauss map which does not appear in Riemannian case, and we give a characterization theorem for Lorentzian surfaces in with null 2‐type pseudo‐spherical Gauss map.  相似文献

We study complete noncompact spacelike hypersurfaces immersed into conformally stationary spacetimes, that is, Lorentzian manifolds endowed with a timelike conformal vector field V. In this setting, by using as main analytical tool a suitable maximum principle for complete noncompact Riemannian manifolds, we establish new characterizations of totally umbilical hypersurfaces in terms of their higher order mean curvatures. For instance, supposing an appropriated restriction on the norm of the tangential component of the vector field V, we are able to show that such hypersurfaces must be totally umbilical provided that either some of their higher order mean curvatures are linearly related or one of them is constant. Applications to the so‐called generalized Robertson‐Walker spacetimes are given. In particular, we extend to the Lorentzian context a classical result due to Jellett  29 .  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce the class of hypersurfaces of finitegeometric type. They are defined as the ones that share the basicdifferential topological properties of minimal surfaces of finite totalcurvature. We extend to surfaces in this class the classical theorem ofOsserman on the number of omitted points of the Gauss mapping ofcomplete minimal surfaces of finite total curvature. We give aclassification of the even-dimensional catenoids as the only even-dimensional minimal hypersurfaces of R n of finite geometric type.  相似文献

The n-dimensional complex hyperquadric is a compact complex algebraic hypersurface defined by the quadratic equation in the (n+1)-dimensional complex projective space, which is isometric to the real Grassmann manifold of oriented 2-planes and is a compact Hermitian symmetric space of rank 2. In this paper, we study geometry of compact Lagrangian submanifolds in complex hyperquadrics from the viewpoint of the theory of isoparametric hypersurfaces in spheres. From this viewpoint we provide a classification theorem of compact homogeneous Lagrangian submanifolds in complex hyperquadrics by using the moment map technique. Moreover we determine the Hamiltonian stability of compact minimal Lagrangian submanifolds embedded in complex hyperquadrics which are obtained as Gauss images of isoparametric hypersurfaces in spheres with g(=  1, 2, 3) distinct principal curvatures. In this paper we consider inverse curvature flows in a Lorentzian manifold N which is the topological product of the real numbers with a closed Riemannian manifold and equipped with a Lorentzian metric having a future singularity so that N is asymptotically Robertson Walker. The flow speeds are future directed and given by 1/F where F is a homogeneous degree one curvature function of class (K?) of the principal curvatures, i.e. the n-th root of the Gauss curvature. We prove longtime existence of these flows and that the flow hypersurfaces converge to smooth functions when they are rescaled with a proper factor which results from the asymptotics of the metric.  相似文献

In this paper, we study locally strongly convex affine hypersurfaces of Rn+1 that have parallel cubic form with respect to the Levi-Civita connection of the affine Berwald-Blaschke metric; it is known that they are affine spheres. In this paper, we determine the type numbers of the pseudo-hyperbolic Gauss maps of all oriented Lorentzian surfaces of constant mean and Gaussian curvatures and non-diagonalizable shape operator in the 3-dimensional anti-de Sitter space. Also, we investigate the behavior of type numbers of the pseudo-hyperbolic Gauss map along the parallel family of such oriented Lorentzian surfaces in the 3-dimensional anti-de Sitter space. Furthermore, we investigate the type number of the pseudo-hyperbolic Gauss map of one of Lorentzian hypersurfaces of B-scroll type in a general dimensional anti-de Sitter space.  相似文献

We develop area and volume comparison theorems for the evolution of spacelike, acausal, causally complete hypersurfaces in Lorentzian manifolds, where one has a lower bound on the Ricci tensor along timelike curves, and an upper bound on the mean curvature of the hypersurface. Using these results, we give a new proof of Hawking’s singularity theorem.  相似文献

This paper deals with a family of lightlike (null) hypersurfaces (H u ) of a Lorentzian manifold M such that each null normal vector of H u is not entirely in H u , but, is defined in some open subset of M around H u . Although the family (H u ) is not unique, we show, subject to some reasonable condition(s), that the involved induced objects are independent of the choice of (H u ) once evaluated at u = constant. We use (n+1)-splitting Lorentzian manifold to obtain a normalization of and a well-defined projector onto H, needed for Gauss, Weingarten, Gauss-Codazzi equations and calculate induced metrics on proper totally umbilical and totally geodesic H u . Finally, we establish a link between the geometry and physics of lightlike hypersurfaces and a variety of black hole horizons.  相似文献

We define finite mean type hypersurfaces to be hypersurfaces with mean curvature function of finite Chen-type. Then, we prove that hyperplanes are the only polynomial translation hypersurfaces of finite mean type in a Euclidean spaceE n+1. And we show that the only non-conic hyperquadrics of finite mean type in Euclidean spaces are the hyperspheres and the cylinders on spheres. Optimal normal bases are special cases of the so-called Gauss periods (Disquisitiones Arithmeticae, Articles 343–366); in particular, optimal normal bases are Gauss periods of type (n, 1) for any characteristic and of type (n, 2) for characteristic 2. We present the multiplication tables and complexities of Gauss periods of type (n, t) for all n and t = 3, 4, 5 over any finite field and give a slightly weaker result for Gauss periods of type (n, 6). In addition, we give some general results on the so-called cyclotomic numbers, which are intimately related to the structure of Gauss periods. We also present the general form of a normal basis obtained by the trace of any normal basis in a finite extension field. Then, as an application of the trace construction, we give upper bounds on the complexity of the trace of a Gauss period of type (n, 3).  相似文献

We study the conformal geometry of an oriented space-like surface in three-dimensional Lorentzian space forms. After introducing the conformal compactification of the Lorentzian space forms, we define the conformal Gauss map which is a conformally invariant two parameter family of oriented spheres. We use the area of the conformal Gauss map to define the Willmore functional and derive a Bernstein type theorem for parabolic Willmore surfaces. The strong maximum principle is proved to hold for weak (in the sense of support functions) sub- and supersolutions to a class of quasi-linear elliptic equations that includes the mean curvature equation for C0-space-like hypersurfaces in a Lorentzian manifold.
