The effects of thermal dispersion and thermal stratification on mixed convection about a vertical surface in a porous medium are studied. The conservation equations that govern the problem are reduced to a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations. The resulting equations are solved on the basis of the local similarity approximation. The results indicate that both dispersion and stratification effects have considerable influence on the heat transfer rate.  相似文献

The goal of the present paper is to examine the magnetohydrodynamic effects on the boundary layer flow of the Jeffrey fluid model for a non-Newtonian nanofluid past a stretching sheet with considering the effects of a heat source/sink. The governing partial differential equations are reduced to a set of coupled nonlinear ordinary differential equations by using suitable similarity transformations. These equations are then solved by the variational finite element method. The profiles of the velocity, temperature, and nanoparticle volume fraction are presented graphically, and the values of the Nusselt and Sherwood numbers are tabulated. The present results are compared with previously published works and are found to be in good agreement with them.  相似文献

Thermal radiation, thermal diffusion, and diffusion-thermo effects on heat and mass transfer by mixed convection of non-Newtonian power-law fluids over a vertical permeable surface embedded in a saturated porous medium are investigated. The governing equations describing the problem are non-dimensionalized and transformed into a non-similar form. The transformed equations are solved by using the local non-similarity method combined with the shooting technique. The effects of the physical parameters of the problem on the fluid temperature and concentration are illustrated graphically and analyzed. Also, the effects of the pertinent parameters on the local Nusselt number and the local Sherwood number are presented.  相似文献

A boundary layer analysis is presented for the mixed convection from a vertical plate embedded in a porous medium. The effects of thermal dispersion and stratification on the flow and temperature fields are investigated. The conservation equations that govern the problem are reduced to a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations. The resulting equations were solved on the basis of the local similarity approach. Received on 12 February 1998  相似文献

The present paper is concerned with the study of radiation effects on the combined (forced-free) convection flow of an optically dense viscous incompressible fluid over a vertical surface embedded in a fluid saturated porous medium of variable porosity with heat generation or absorption. The effects of radiation heat transfer from a porous wall on convection flow are very important in high temperature processes. The inclusion of radiation effects in the energy equation leads to a highly non-linear partial differential equations which are transformed to a system of ordinary differential equations using non-similarity transformation. These equations are then solved numerically using implicit finite-difference method subject to appropriate boundary and matching conditions. A parametric study of the physical parameters such as the particle diameter-based Reynolds number, the flow based Reynolds number, the Grashof number, the heat generation or absorption co-efficient and radiation parameter is conducted on temperature distribution. The effects of radiation and other physical parameters on the local skin friction and on local Nusselt number are shown graphically. It is interesting to observe that the momentum and thermal boundary layer thickness increases with the radiation and decrease with increase in the Prandtl number.  相似文献

Based on the Timoshenko beam model the equations of motion are obtained for large deflection of off-center impact of a column by a rigid mass via Hamilton's principle. These are a set of coupled nonlinear partial differential equations. The Newmark time integration scheme and differential quadrature method are employed to convert the equations into a set of nonlinear algebraic equations for displacement components. The equations are solved numerically and the effects of weight and velocity of the rigid mass and also off-center distance on deformation of the column are studied.  相似文献

The Hall and ion-slip effects on fully developed electrically conducting couple stress fluid flow between vertical parallel plates in the presence of a temperature dependent heat source are investigated. The governing non-linear partial differential equations are transformed into a system of ordinary differential equations using similarity transformations. The resulting equations are then solved using the homotopy analysis method (HAM). The effects of the magnetic parameter, Hall parameter, ion-slip parameter and couple stress fluid parameter on velocity and temperature are discussed and shown graphically.  相似文献

The problem of a two-dimensional steady flow of a second-grade fluid in a converging porous channel is considered. It is assumed that the fluid is injected into the channel through one wall and sucked from the channel through the other wall at the same velocity, which is inversely proportional to the distance along the wall from the channel origin. The equations governing the flow are reduced to ordinary differential equations. The boundary-value problem described by the latter equations is solved by the homotopy perturbation method. The effects of the Reynolds and crossflow Reynolds number on the flow characteristics are examined.  相似文献

A mixed convection flow of a third-grade fluid near the orthogonal stagnation point on a vertical surface with slip and viscous dissipation effects is investigated. The governing partial differential equations for the third-grade fluid are converted into a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations by using a similarity transformation. The effects of various parameters, including the Weissenberg number, third-grade parameter, local Reynolds number, Prandtl number, Eckert number, mixed convection parameter, velocity slip, and thermal slip on the velocity and temperature profiles, local skin friction coefficient, and local Nusselt number are discussed.  相似文献

Edge effects in a rectangular sandwich plate with isotropic components are studied. The mathematical model is represented by the homogeneous equations of linear elasticity, which is indicative of an approximate approach in edge-effect theory. The initial equations are reduced to inhomogeneous ones and an exact problem is formulated. Approximate solutions are found by the mesh method. Discrete problems are based on the concept of base scheme. The mesh equations are written in an explicit form and then solved using a computation optimization procedure. As an example, edge-effect zones in a real composite are analyzed.__________Translated from Prikladnaya Mekhanika, Vol. 40, No. 12, pp. 124–133, December 2004.  相似文献

The momentum and heat transfer characteristics associated with the boundary layer on a continuous moving flat surface in a non-Darcian fluid have been investigated exploiting a local similarity solution procedure. The full boundary layer equations, which describe the effects of convective inertia, solid boundary, and porous inertia in addition to the Darcy flow resistance, were solved using novel transformed variables, deduced from a scale analysis on the momentum and energy conservation equations. Details are provided for the effects of convective inertia and porous inertia on the velocity and temperature profiles. The resulting friction and heat transfer characteristics are found to be substantially different from those of forces convection over a stationary flat plate. Furthermore, useful asymptotic expressions for the local Nusselt number are presented in consideration of possible physical limiting conditions.  相似文献

An approach is proposed to set up the dispersion equations for surface waves in a periodically stratified half-space contacting with a layer of a perfect compressible liquid. The approach is based on the formalism of periodic Hamiltonian systems. The dispersion equations derived are valid for an arbitrary law of variation in the properties with respect to the coordinate of periodicity. The effects of the liquid layer and the inhomogeneity of the elastic medium on the dispersion spectra of surface waves are studied  相似文献

A three-dimensional flow of a magnetohydrodynamic Casson fluid over an unsteady stretching surface placed into a porous medium is examined. Similarity transformations are used to convert time-dependent partial differential equations into nonlinear ordinary differential equations. The transformed equations are then solved analytically by the homotopy analysis method and numerically by the shooting technique combined with the Runge–Kutta–Fehlberg method. The results obtained by both methods are compared with available reported data. The effects of the Casson fluid parameter, magnetic field parameter, and unsteadiness parameter on the velocity and local skin friction coefficients are discussed in detail.  相似文献

Multiple steady-state solutions of natural convection in an inclined enclosure with a fluid layer and a heat-generating porous bed is investigated numerically by the finite volume method. The conservation equations for the porous layer are based on a general flow model which includes both the effects of flow inertia and friction. The flow in fluid layer is modeled by Navier–Stokes equations. The method of pseudo arc-length continuation is adapted in studying the effects of tilt angle on flow pattern and heat transfer. It is found that, in the whole domain of tilt angle, there exist two groups of solutions with quite different flow pattern and heat transfer behavior. The effects of aspect ratio on flow pattern and heat transfer have also been studied. Received on 04 March 1997  相似文献

An analysis of a three-dimensional viscoelastic fluid flow over an exponentially stretching surface is carried out in the presence of heat transfer. Constitutive equations of a second-grade fluid are employed. The governing boundary layer equations are reduced by appropriate transformations to ordinary differential equations. Series solutions of these equations are found, and their convergence is discussed. The influence of the prominent parameters involved in the heat transfer process is analyzed. It is found that the effects of the Prandtl number, viscoelastic parameter, velocity ratio parameter, and temperature exponent on the Nusselt number are qualitatively similar.  相似文献

Heat and mass transfer effects on Newtonian biomagnetic fluid of blood flow through a tapered porous artery with a stenosis is investigated. Governing equations have been modeled by treating blood as Newtonian biomagnetic fluid. The governing equations are simplified under the assumption of mild stenosis. Exact solutions have been evaluated for velocity, temperature, and concentration profiles. The effects of Newtonian nature of blood on velocity, temperature, concentration profile, wall shear stress, shearing stress at the stenosis throat and impedance of the artery are discussed graphically. Stream lines have been presented in last section of the article.  相似文献

A technique for numerically investigating resonators based on their exposure to broadband noise with a subsequent analysis of the input and output signal spectra is proposed. Resonance chambers connected with a waveguide through its wall are numerically investigated using both linear (linearized Euler equations) and nonlinear (Euler and Navier-Stokes equations) models. The general features of the linear resonance and the influence of nonlinear effects and dissipation on sound-absorbing properties are studied. The dependence of the resonator parameters on the presence of an axial flow and the boundary layer thickness is investigated for the model based on the Navier-Stokes equations.  相似文献

Navier-Stokes analysis of a circulation control airfoil   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
The two-dimensional, compressible, mass-averaged Navier-Stokes equations are used to investigate flows about a typical circulation control airfoil. The governing equations are solved using the implicit approximate-factorization algorithm of Beam-Warming with a modified algebraic eddy viscosity model. Results are compared with experimental data, and excellent agreement is obtained. The effects of different jet momentum coefficients and angles of attack on the flow are studied. The mechanism of genenating large lift by circulation control is discussed.  相似文献

The present contribution deals with the thermophoresis particle deposition and thermal radiation effects on the flow, heat and mass transfer characteristics in a viscous fluid over a semi-infinite vertical porous plate. The governing boundary layer equations are written into a dimensionless form by similarity transformations. The transformed coupled nonlinear ordinary differential equations are solved numerically by means of the fourth-order Runge–Kutta method with a shooting technique. The effects of different parameters on the dimensionless velocity, temperature, and concentration profiles are shown graphically. In addition, results for the local skin-friction coefficient, the local Nusselt number, and the local Sherwood number are tabulated and discussed.  相似文献
