In this paper we develop a generalization of the small cancellation theory. The usual small cancellation hypotheses are replaced by some condition that, roughly speaking, says that if a common part of two relations is a big piece of one relation then it must be a very small piece of another. In particular, we show that a finitely presented generalized small cancellation group has a solvable word problem. The machinery developed in the paper is to be used in the following papers of this series for constructing some group-theoretic examples.  相似文献

For even-dimensional manifolds, we prove some twisted anomaly cancellation formulas which generalize some well-known cancellation formulas. For odd dimensional manifolds, we obtain some modularly invariant characteristic forms by the Chern-Simons transgression and we also get some twisted anomaly cancellation formulas.  相似文献

In [14] we established a relationship between genus and localization of finitely generated torsion-free abelian by finite groups aud grnus and localization integral representation theory. In this paper we strrcly the consequences of this relationship. We prove results about the genus of groups which are analogues to results in integral representaion theory. In particular we prove non-cancellation phenomena for finitely generated groups with finite commutator subgroups.  相似文献

In this article (which is divided in three parts) we investigate the non‐linear initial boundary value problems (1.2) and (1.3). In both cases we consider coupled systems where each system is of higher order and of hyperbolic or parabolic type. Our goal is to characterize systematically all admissible couplings between systems of higher order and different type. By an admissible coupling we mean a condition that guarantees the existence, uniqueness and regularity of solutions to the respective initial boundary value problem. In part 1 at hand, we develop the underlying theory of linear hyperbolic and parabolic initial boundary value problems. Testing the PDEs with suitable functions we obtain a priori estimates for the respective solutions. In particular, we make use of the regularity theory for linear elliptic boundary value problems that was previously developed by the author. In part 2, we prove the local in time existence, uniqueness and regularity of solutions to the quasilinear initial boundary value problem (1.2) using the so‐called energy method. In the above sense, the regularity assumptions about the coefficients and right‐hand sides define the admissible couplings. In part 3, we extend the results of part 2 to the non‐linear initial boundary value problem (1.3). In particular, the assumptions about the respective parameters correspond to the previous regularity assumptions and hence define the admissible couplings now. We define and develop an interior partial regularity theory for intrinsic energy minimising fractional harmonic maps from Euclidean space into smooth compact Riemannian manifolds for fractional powers strictly between zero and one. Intrinsic fractional harmonic maps are critical points of an energy whose first variation is a Dirichlet to Neumann map for the harmonic map problem on a half-space with a Riemannian metric which can degenerate/become singular along the boundary, depending on the fractional power. Similarly to the approach used to prove regularity for stationary intrinsic semi-harmonic maps, we take advantage of the connection between fractional harmonic maps and free boundary problems for harmonic maps in order to develop a partial regularity theory for the fractional harmonic maps we consider. In particular, we prove partial regularity for locally minimising harmonic maps with (partially) free boundary data on half-spaces with the aforementioned metrics up to the boundary; fractional harmonic maps then inherit this regularity. As a by-product of our methods we shed some new light on the monotonicity of the average energy of solutions of the degenerate linear elliptic equation related to fractional harmonic functions.  相似文献

We consider a periodic review model where the firm manages its inventory under supply uncertainty and demand cancellation. We show that because of supply uncertainty, the optimal inventory policy has the structure of re-order point type. That is, we order if the initial inventory falls below this re-order point, otherwise we do not order. This is in contrast to the work of Yuan and Cheung (2003) who prove the optimality of an order up to policy in the absence of supply uncertainty. We also investigate the impact of supply uncertainty and demand cancellation on the performance of the supply chain. Using our model, we are able to quantify the importance of reducing the variance of either the distribution of yield or the distribution of demand cancellation. The single, multiple periods and the infinite horizon models are studied.  相似文献

We show that a positive solution of the stableequivalence problem in this case implies a positive solution ofthe cancellation problem.  相似文献

We show that the theory of Frobenius fields is decidable. This is conjectured in [4], [8] and [13], and we prove it by solving a group theoretic problem to which this question is reduced there. To do this we present and develop the notion of embedding covers of finite and pro-finite groups. We also answer two other problems from [8], again by solving a corresponding group theoretic problem: A finite extension of a Frobenius field need not be Frobenius and there are PAC fields which are not Frobenius fields. Portions of this work will be incorporated in the doctoral dissertation of the first author done in Tel Aviv University under the supervision of Prof. Moshe Jarden.  相似文献

We study the B(6) and B(4)-T(4) small cancellation groups. These classes include the usual C(1/6) and C(1/4)-T(4) metric small cancellation groups. We show that every finitely presented B(4)-T(4) or word-hyperbolic B(6) group acts properly discontinuously and cocompactly on a CAT(0) cube complex. We show that finitely generated infinite B(6) and B(4)-T(4) groups have codimension 1 subgroups and thus do not have property (T). We show that a finitely presented B(6) group is wordhyperbolic if and only if it contains no subgroup.  相似文献

By studying modular invariance properties of some characteristic forms, we get some generalized anomaly cancellation formulas on(4 r-1)-dimensional manifolds with no assumption that the 3rd de-Rham cohomology of manifolds vanishes. These anomaly cancellation formulas generalize our previous anomaly cancellation formulas on(4 r-1)-dimensional manifolds. We also generalize our previous anomaly cancellation formulas on(4 r-1)-dimensional manifolds and the Han–Yu rigidity theorem to the(a, b) case.  相似文献

In this paper we develop a general representation theory for MV-algebras. We furnish the appropriate categorical background to study this problem. Our guide line is the theory of classifying topoi of coherent extensions of universal algebra theories. Our main result corresponds, in the case of MV-algebras and MV-chains, to the representation of commutative rings with unit as rings of global sections of sheaves of local rings. We prove that any MV-algebra is isomorphic to the MV-algebra of all global sections of a sheaf of MV-chains on a compact topological space. This result is intimately related to McNaughton’s theorem, and we explain why our representation theorem can be viewed as a vast generalization of McNaughton’s theorem. In spite of the language used in this abstract, we have written this paper in the hope that it can be read by experts in MV-algebras but not in sheaf theory, and conversely.  相似文献
