Polyelectrolyte complex formation of a strong polyanion, potassium poly(vinyl alcohol) sulfate (KPVS), with positively charged nanogels was studied at 25 degrees C in aqueous solutions with different KCl concentrations (C(s)) as a function of the polyion-nanogel mixing ratio based on moles of anions versus cations. Used as the gel sample was a polyampholytic nanogel consisting of lightly cross-linked terpolymer chains of N-isopropylacrylamide, acrylic acid, and 1-vinylimidazole; thus, the complexation was performed at pH 3 at which the imidazole groups are fully protonated to generate positive charges. Turbidimetric titration was employed to vary the mixing ratio. Also employed for studies of the resulting complexes at different stages of the titration were dynamic light scattering (DLS) and static light scattering (SLS) techniques. It was found from the titration as well as DLS and SLS that there is a critical mixing ratio (cmr) at which both the size and molar mass of the complexed gel particles abruptly increase. The value of the cmr at C(s) = 0 or 0.01 M (mol/L) was observed at approximately 1:1 mixing ratio of anions versus cations but at lower mixing ratios than the 1:1 ratio under conditions of C(s) = 0.05 and 0.1 M. At the mixing ratios less than the cmr, the molar mass of the complex agrees with that of one gel particle with the calculated amount of the bound KPVS ions, indicating the formation of an "intraparticle" KPVS-nanogel complex, by the aggregation of which an "interparticle" complex is formed at the cmr. During the process of the intraparticle complex formation, both the hydrodynamic radius by DLS and the radius gyration by SLS decreased with increasing mixing ratio, demonstrating the gel collapse due to the complexation. At C(s) = 0 or 0.01 M and under conditions where the amount of KPVS bindings was less than half of the nanogel cations, however, the decrease of the hydrodynamic radius was very small, while the radius gyration fell monotonically. These results were discussed in connection with a collapse of dangling chains attached to the nanogel surface by the binding of KPVS.  相似文献

We studied complex formation in an aqueous salt-free system (pH approximately 3 and at 25 degrees C) between nanogel particles having opposite charges. Anionic gel (AG) and cationic gel (CG) particles consist of lightly cross-linked N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPA) copolymers with 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid and with 1-vinylimidazole, respectively. The number of charges per particle was -4490 for AG and +20 300 for CG, as estimated from their molar masses (3.33 MD for AG and 11.7 MD for CG) by static light scattering (SLS) and their charge densities (1.35 mmol/g for AG and 1.74 mmol/g for CG) by potentiometric titration. The complexes were formed through the addition of AG to CG and vice versa using a turbidimetric titration technique. At the endpoint of the titration, the aggregate formed was a complex based upon stoichiometric charge neutralization: CG(n)()(+) + xAG(m)()(-) --> CG(n)()(+) (AG(m)()(-))(x)() where x = (n)()/(m)(). At different stages of the titration before the endpoint, the resulting complexes were examined in detail using dynamic light scattering, SLS, and electrophoretic light scattering (ELS). The main results are summarized as follows: (i) When AG with a hydrodynamic radius (R(h)) of 119 nm is added to CG (R(h) approximately 156 nm), the (R(h)) of the complex size decreases from 156 to 80 nm. (ii) In contrast to this (R(h)) change, the molar mass increases from 11.7 MD to 24 MD with increasing amounts of added AG. (iii) Upon addition of CG to AG, the complex formed has the same size ((R(h)) approximately 80 nm) and the same molar mass (55 +/- 2.5 MD) until 55 +/- 5% of AG has been consumed in the complexation. To understand these results, we used the following two models: the random model (RM), in which the added AG particles uniformly bind to all of the CG particles in the system via a strong electrostatic attraction, and the all-or-none model (AONM), in which part of the AG particles in the system preferably bind to the added CG particles to neutralize their electric charges but the other AG particles are uncomplexed and remain in the system. The complex formations upon addition of AG to CG and CG to AG were elucidated in terms of RM and AONM, respectively.  相似文献

The formation of a complex between an anionic spherical polyelectrolyte brush (SPB) and the cationic surfactant cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) is investigated. The SPB consists of long chains of the strong polyelectrolyte poly(styrene sulfonate) (PSS), which are bound chemically to a solid poly(styrene) core of 56 nm in radius. The SPB are dispersed in water, and the ionic strength is adjusted by addition of NaBr. The resulting complexes are investigated in dilute solution by dynamic light scattering, by electrophoretic light scattering, and by cryogenic transmission electron microscopy (cryo-TEM). The formation of the complex between the SPB and the surfactant can be monitored by a strong shrinking of the surface layer when adding CTAB to dilute suspensions (0.01 wt %) and by a decrease of the effective charge of the complexes. Complex formation starts at CTAB concentrations lower than the critical micelle concentration of this surfactant. If the ratio r of the charges on the SPB to the charge of the added surfactant is exceeding unity, the particles start to flocculate. Cryo-TEM images of the complexes at r = 0.6 measured in salt-free solution show that the surface layer composed of the PSS chains and the adsorbed CTAB molecules is partially collapsed: A part of the chains form a dense surface layer while another part of the chains or aggregates thereof are still sticking out. This can be deduced from the cryo-TEM micrographs as well as from the hydrodynamic radius, which is still of appreciable magnitude. The 1:1 complex (r = 1.0) exhibits a fully collapsed layer formed by the PSS chains and CTAB. If the complex is formed in the presence of 0.05 M NaBr, r = 0.6 leads to globular structures directly attached to the surface of the core particles. All structures seen in the cryo-TEM images can be explained by a collapse transition of the surface layer brought about by the hydrophobic attraction between the polyelectrolyte chains that became partially hydrophobic through adsorption of CTAB.  相似文献

This work aims to provide a basic understanding of the water dispersibility of a 1:1 stoichiometric polyelectrolyte complex (SPEC) in water in the absence of low-molecular-weight salts. We studied the complexation of a linear polyanion, potassium poly(vinyl alcohol sulfate) (KPVS), with a cationic polyelectrolyte nanogel (CPENG) composed of a lightly cross-linked copolymer of N-isopropylacrylamide and 1-vinylimidazole, in an aqueous salt-free solution (pH 3 and 25 °C), as a function of the molar mixing ratio (Mmr) of anionic to cationic groups. Also studied for comparison was the complexation of KPVS with poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDDA), which is a standard reaction in colloid titration. Turbidimetric and conductometric measurements were used in combination of dynamic light scattering (DLS). An abrupt increase of turbidity curve and a break of conductivity curve were observed at Mmr =1 when KPVS was added to the CPENG or PDDA solution, indicating the formation of SPEC. All the complexes formed at Mmr ≤ 1 were water-dispersible and hence characterized by DLS. The CONTIN analysis of DLS data showed that (i) an increase of Mmr causes a decrease of the hydrodynamic radius (R(h)) of the nanogel complex particle but (ii) the R(h) of the PDDA complex remains unchanged at Mmr < 0.8. Taking these into account, we discussed the conductometric results in terms of the random model (RM) and all-or-none model (AONM) in polyelectrolyte complex formations. It was found that KPVS and PDDA yield a water-dispersible SPEC particle at each Mmr, accompanying the uptake of counterions (K(+) and Cl(-)) by the complex. This uptake amount was about 7% of the stoichiometric release of the counterions. In the nanogel system, a complete release of the counterions was observed at Mmr < 0.2 at which one or two KPVS chains were bound to a CPENG particle, but further KPVS binding led to about 20% of the counterion uptake to maintain electroneutrality. Thus, we suggest that the counterion uptake becomes a key factor to understand the water dispersibility of SPEC particles.  相似文献

Polymeric nanogel vectors were developed for cellular gene and antisense delivery. Inverse microemulsion polymerization was utilized to synthesize biocompatible nanogels with controlled size, morphology, and composition. The chemical composition, size, polydispersity, stability, and swelling behavior of the nanogels were investigated by NMR, light scattering, transmission electron microscopy, and atomic force microscopy. The cell viability, uptake, and physical stability of nanogel-DNA complexes were evaluated under physiological conditions. Monodisperse nonionic and cationic nanogels were produced with controllable sizes ranging from 40 to 200 nm in diameter. The nanogels demonstrated extended stability in aqueous media and exhibited low toxicity in cell culture. Cationic nanogels formed monodisperse complexes with oligonucleotides and showed enhanced oligonucleotide uptake in cell culture. The nanogels synthesized in this study demonstrate potential utility as carriers of oligonucleotides and DNA for antisense and gene delivery.  相似文献

A polyelectrolyte nanogel (PENG) particle consisting of lightly cross-linked terpolymer chains of N-isopropylacrylamide, acrylic acid, and 1-vinylimidazole has positive charges in an aqueous medium at pH 3 due to protonation of the imidazole groups, and thereby forms a polyelectrolyte complex with the linear polyanion, potassium poly(vinyl alcohol) sulfate (KPVS). It has been demonstrated that the hydrodynamic radius (Rh), by dynamic light scattering (DLS), and the radius of gyration (Rg), by static light scattering (SLS), of the complex particles are smallest at approximately 1:1 mixing ratio (rm) of anions to cations, in the absence of simple salts such as KCl (Langmuir 2005, 21, 4830). Here, we aimed to study the nature of the complex formed at rm=1 and examined the complex formation process by electrophoretic light scattering (ELS). It was found that the mobility of the cationic PENG with a stoichiometric amount of bound KPVS anions (i.e., the complex formed at rm=1) is positive but not zero at 25 degrees C. This was also the case when the complex was examined by ELS at 45 degrees C, where DLS and SLS show a temperature-driven collapse of the complex. We thus assumed that (a) electroneutrality is maintained in the complex particle with the aid of counterions, but (b) the complex is highly polarizable, and hence (c) during ELS the KPVS anions would dissociate in part from the complex. This hypothesis was supported by the following results: (i) Mixing complexed and uncomplexed PENG particles at different ratios brings about an increase in Rh and a decrease in the light scattering intensity of the complex at the same time, suggesting a polyelectrolyte exchange reaction. (ii) The same phenomenon is seen when poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDDA as a polysalt) is added to the complex dispersion, meaning that the PDDA takes out the KPVS from the complex to form a stable PDDA-KPVS complex. (iii) Upon addition of KCl, the complex undergoes little change in Rh (62-67 nm) at a salt concentration (Cs)0.2 M. (iv) The Rh (78 nm) of the soluble complex at Cs from 0.3 to 0.5 M is larger than that at Cs<0.02 M, suggesting dissociation of the KPVS ions. (v) Complexation between KPVS and PDDA as mentioned in (ii) is facilitated in the presence of 0.01 M KCl.  相似文献

Double-hydrophilic poly(ethylene oxide)-b-poly(acrylic acid) (PEO-b-PAA) self-assembled into nanostructures in basic solution upon the addition of alpha-cyclodextrin (alpha-CD) as a result of the complexation between alpha-CD and PEO. The nanostructures produced were spherical in shape as observed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and possessed radii that were much larger than that of a single stretched polymeric chain. The ratio of Rg/Rh (where Rg is the z-average radius of gyration and Rh is the hydrodynamic radius) obtained from laser light scattering (LLS) was approximately approximately 1.0, and the aggregation number was approximately 4100. The zeta-potential of complex particle was -45 mV, suggesting that the particle possessed a stable negatively charged surface, attributed to ionized PAA segments. The above results suggested that the nanostructures formed in the PEO-b-PAA/alpha-CD solution at high pH were likely to be spherical vesicles.  相似文献

Ovalbumin and ovotransferrin are two proteins in hen egg white with isoelectric points of 4.8 and 6.8, respectively. A convenient and green method was developed in this study to prepare ovalbumin-ovotransferrin nanogels: a mixture of the two proteins was adjusted to a certain pH and then heated. Heat induced denaturation and gelation of the proteins, but the negative charges of ovalbumin prevented the proteins from coagulating. Dynamic light scattering, transmission electron microscopy, and atomic force microscopy studies reveal the nanogels have a spherical shape in both the swell and dry forms. Their apparent hydrodynamic diameters are in the range of 100-220 nm depending on the protein concentration in the nanogel preparation process. The nanogels display an amphoteric property: they carry net positive charges at pH lower than 5.5 and net negative charges at pH higher than 5.5. They form redispersible secondary aggregates at pH 5.0-6.0. The nanogels are stable in the pH ranges of 2.0-4.0 and 7.0-11.0, and they exhibit pH unchangeable but thermoreversible hydrophobicity. Benzoic acid was used as a model drug to study the loading ability. The native ovalbumin and ovotransferrin cannot bind with benzoic acid, whereas the nanogels with the network structure and hydrophobic binding sites can load benzoic acid through hydrophobic and electrostatic interactions.  相似文献

We report on the refinement of anionic and cationic nanoparticles of nonstoichometric polyelectrolyte complexes (PEC) by consecutive centrifugation, which was studied by dynamic light scattering (DLS), atomic force microscopy (AFM), colloid titration and infrared spectroscopy (IR). PEC dispersions were prepared by mixing poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDADMAC) and sodium poly(maleic acid-alt-alpha-methylstyrene) (PMA-MS) at the monomolar mixing ratio of n-/n+ = 1.50 (anionic PEC) and 0.66 (cationic PEC), respectively, and the polymer concentration of c(POL) = 0.002 M. The particle size (Rh), titrable charge amount, and IR spectra were determined for both dispersions in the original state, after the first centrifugation and after the second centrifugation. Freshly prepared PEC dispersions contained two different particle sizes: around 10-25 nm (small particles) and around 100 nm (large particles). Consecutive centrifugation of freshly prepared PEC dispersions resulted in the separation of highly charged excess polyelectrolyte (PEL) and small PEC particles from a low charged coacervate phase of the desired larger PEC particles. After the second centrifugation, the coacervate phase of both dispersions PEC-1.50 and PEC-0.66 consisted of monomodal particles sizing around 100 nm. These results were supported by AFM measurements on the respective dispersions deposited on glass plates. PEC-1.50 particles tended to adopt slightly smaller sizes ( approximately 90 nm) in comparison to PEC-0.66 ones (approximately 110 nm). No significant influence of the PDADMAC molecular weight on the particle size was found. IR spectroscopy showed changes in the environment of the carboxylate groups of PMA-MS by consecutive centrifugation. The centrifuged PEC-1.50 dispersions showed remarkable long-term stability over more than a year. The high macroscopic stability of the studied PEC dispersions is presumably due to repulsive electrostatic interparticle interactions and attractive hydrophobic intraparticle interaction. The introduced monomodal PEC particles might be projected as latex analogues or as nanocarriers for drugs and proteins.  相似文献

Colloid-polymer (CP) mixtures extend between two limiting cases, the colloid limit with the polymer coil size small compared to the colloid radius Rcol and the protein limit with the colloidal particles much smaller in size than the radius of gyration of the polymer chains Rg. In the present work, model systems are developed for the protein limit. The colloid-solvent pairs are optimized in terms of their isorefractivity in order to facilitate the characterization of large polystyrene chains in suspensions of small colloids. The degree of isorefractivity of colloidal particles was successfully evaluated in terms of a reduced scattering intensity. Two polystyrene samples with radii of gyration of Rg = 96 nm and Rg = 78 nm, respectively, are used. The radii of the colloidal particles are close to Rcol = 12 nm, leading to size ratios of Rg/Rcol = 8 and Rg/Rcol = 6.5. Four colloid solvent systems were found to be suitable for polymer characterization by light scattering, one based on silica particles and three systems with acrylate particles. The present investigation is focused on the three acrylate systems: poly(methyl methacrylate) in ethyl benzoate (ETB) at 7 degrees C, poly(ethyl methacrylate) in toluene at 7 degrees C and poly(ethyl methacrylate) in ETB at 40 degrees C. Characterization of PS chains is for the first time performed in colloid concentrations up to 2.5% by weight. In all cases, the size and shape of the polymer chains remain unchanged. A slight mismatch of the colloid scattering or a limited colloid solubility prevented investigation of PS chains at higher colloid concentration.  相似文献

Homopolymeric microgels composed of PMMA were prepared by emulsion polymerization in the presence of 0.5 % 1,4-butanediol divinylether (BVE) in an aqueous medium followed by careful removal of the soap. The microgels were coated with polystyrene (PS) by anionic grafting of living PS chains onto the surface. Both types of microgels were characterized by GPC and by static and dynamic light scattering in several solvents. A special model consisting of a hard core and a seam of dangling chains has been developed and applied to interpreting the light scattering data from the various solvents. The model gives consistent results, e. g. the core radius agrees well with the radius of gyration. In the coated microgels a strong expansion of the core as a result of the PS/ PMMA incompatibility is observed.Dedicated to Prof. Dr. H.-G. Kilian on the occasion of his 60th birthday.  相似文献

Polymerizable nanogels were prepared by self-assembly of cholesteryl group-bearing pullulan (CHP) with methacryloyl groups (CHPMA). The CHPMA nanogel was polymerized with 2-methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine (MPC) by radical polymerization in dilute aqueous solution. The solution properties of the polymers in water were investigated by TEM, SEC-MALS, and fluorescence quenching technique. Monodispersed hybrid nanogels of CHPMA-MPC (CM nanogels) (25-30 nm in radius of gyration) were obtained by using CHPMA nanogel as a seed-nanogel. CM nanogels have a dual cross-linking structure that is physically cross-linked with the cholesteryl groups and chemically cross-linked with the MPC polymer chains. CM nanogels trap heat-denatured carbonic anhydrase B (CAB) and prevent their aggregations. The nanogels maintained the ability of trapping and releasing enzymes by host-guest interaction of cholesteryl group and cyclodextrin.  相似文献

Sparsely cross-linked "nanogels" for microchannel DNA sequencing   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1

We have developed sparsely cross-linked "nanogels", sub-colloidal polymer structures composed of covalently linked, linear polyacrylamide chains, as novel DNA sequencing matrices for capillary electrophoresis. The presence of covalent cross-links affords nanogel matrices with enhanced network stability relative to standard, linear polyacrylamide (LPA), improving the separation of large DNA fragments. Nanogels were synthesized via inverse emulsion (water-in-oil) copolymerization of acrylamide and N,N-methylenebisacrylamide (Bis). In order to retain the fluidity necessary in a replaceable polymer matrix for capillary array electrophoresis (CAE), a low percentage of the Bis cross-linker (< 10(-4) mol%) was used. Nanogels were characterized by multiangle laser light scattering and rheometry, and were tested for DNA sequencing by CAE with four-color laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) detection. The properties and performance of nanogel matrices were compared to those of a commercially available LPA network, which was matched for both weight-average molar mass (Mw) and extent of interchain entanglements (c/c*). Nanogels presented in this work have an average radius of gyration of 226 nm and a weight-average molar mass of 8.8 x 10(6) g/mol. At concentrations above the overlap threshold, nanogels form a clear, viscous solution, similar to the LPA matrix (Mw approximately 8.9 x 10(6) g/mol). The two matrices have similar flow and viscosity characteristics. However, because of the physical network stability provided by the internally cross-linked structure of the nanogels, a substantially longer read length ( approximately 63 bases, a 10.4% improvement) is obtained with the nanogel matrix at 98.5% accuracy of base-calling. The nanogel network provides higher-selectivity separation of ssDNA sequencing fragments longer than 375 bases. Moreover, nanogel matrices require 30% less polymer per unit volume than LPA. This is the first report of a sequencing matrix that provides better performance than LPA, in a side-by-side comparison of polymer matrices matched for Mw and extent of interchain entanglements.  相似文献

Complexes between sodium (sulfamate-carboxylate)isoprene/ethylene oxide double hydrophilic diblock copolymers (SCIEO) and dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTMAB), as well as quaternized poly(2-vinylpyridine) (QP2VP), were studied in aqueous solutions, at pH 7. The complexes are formed due to electrostatic interactions between the anionic groups of the polyelectrolyte block of the copolymers and the cationic groups of the surfactant or the homopolyelectrolyte. The structure of the complexes was investigated as a function of the mixing ratio of the two components in solution and ionic strength by static, dynamic, and electrophoretic light scattering, atomic force microscopy, and fluorescence spectroscopy. The mass and size of the complexes depend on the mixing ratio between the components. A transition from intrachain to an interchain association was observed for block copolymer/ surfactant complexes. SCIEO/QP2VP complexes were found to respond to increasing concentrations of added salt. Spherical and ellipsoid shaped complexes with a core-shell micellar like structure were formed in the systems studied.  相似文献

Complexes formed by a double-tail cationic surfactant, didodecyldimethyl ammonium bromide, and an anionic polyelectrolyte, an alternating copolymer of poly(styrene-alt-maleic acid) in its sodium salt form, were investigated with respect to variation in the charge ratio (x) between the polyelectrolyte negative charges and the surfactant positive charges. The morphology and microstructure of the complexes were studied by light microscopy and small-angle X-ray scattering for different preparation conditions. Independent of the sample preparation procedure and the charge ratio x, the X-ray results show that the microscopic structure of the complexes is a condensed lamellar phase. By contrast, the morphology of the complexes changes dramatically with the preparation procedure. The complexes formed by mixing a surfactant solution and a polyelectrolyte solution strongly depend on x and are always extremely heterogeneous in size and shape. Surprisingly, we show that, when the two solutions interdiffuse slowly, spherical complexes of micrometric and rather uniform size are systematically obtained, independently on the initial relative amount of surfactant and polyelectrolyte. The mechanism for the formation of these peculiar complexes is discussed.  相似文献

The interaction between the anionic and cationic polyelectrolytes of various molecular masses and charges and the ionic surfactants in aqueous and salt solutions is studied by viscometry, conductometry, light scattering, and electrophoresis. Oppositely charged molecules of surfactant and polymer form strong complexes due to the forces of electrostatic attraction that is manifested in a significant decrease in the viscosity and light transmission, as well as in the relative reduction in solution conductivity. As the surfactant/polyelectrolyte ratio increases, the forming complexes precipitated and then dissolved again. In the case of strongly charged polyelectrolytes, the partial dissolution of precipitates was observed preceding the wide region of destabilization. In this region, the value of surfactant/polyelectrolyte charge ratio reaches 3–4. The interaction between the cationic surfactants and anionic polyelectrolyte increases with the lengthening of alkyl radical, thus indicating the presence of cooperative interactions between the surfactant molecules bonded to polymer and the important role of relevant hydrophobic interactions. As a result, the interaction between the high-molecular-weight anionic polyelectrolytes and anionic surfactants containing aromatic core takes place in some cases.  相似文献

Novel interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) nanogels composed of poly(acrylic acid) and gelatin were synthesised by one pot inverse miniemulsion (IME) technique. This is based on the concept of nanoreactor and cross-checked from template polymerization technique. Acrylic acid (AA) monomer stabilized around the gelatin macromolecules in each droplet was polymerized using ammonium persulfate (APS) and tetramethyl ethylene diamine (TEMED) in 1:5 molar ratio and cross-linked with N,N-methylene bisacrylamide (BIS) to form semi-IPN (sIPN) nanogels, which were sequentially cross-linked using glutaraldehyde (Glu) to form IPNs. Span 20, an FDA approved surfactant was employed for the formation of homopolymer, sIPN and IPN nanogels. Formation of stable gelatin-AA droplets were observed at 2% surfactant concentration. Dynamic light scattering (DLS) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) studies of purified nanogels showed small, spherical IPN nanogels with an average diameter of 255 nm. In contrast, sIPN prepared using the same method gave nanogels of larger size. Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, SEM, DLS, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and zeta potential studies confirm the interpenetration of the two networks. Leaching of free PAA chains in sIPN upon dialysis against distilled water leads to porous nanogels. The non-uniform surface of IPN nanogels seen in transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images suggests the phase separation of two polymer networks. An increase of N/C ratio from 0.07 to 0.17 (from PAA gel to IPN) and O/C ratio from 0.22 to 0.37 (from gelatin gel to IPN) of the nanogels by XPS measurements showed that both polymer components at the nanogel surface are interpenetrated. These nanogels have tailoring properties in order to use them as high potential drug delivery vehicles for cancer targeting.  相似文献

Synthetic vesicles are formed by cationic and anionic surfactants, didodecyldimethylammonium bromide (DDAB), and sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS). The morphology, size, and aqueous properties of cationic/anionic mixtures are investigated at various molar ratios between cationic and anionic surfactants. The charged vesicular dispersions made of DDAB/SDS are contacted or mixed with negatively charged polyelectrolyte, poly(4-styrenesulfonic acid-co-maleic acid) sodium (PSSAMA), to form complexes. Depending on DDAB/SDS molar ratio or PSSAMA/vesicle charge ratio, complexes flocculation or precipitation occur. Characterization of the cationic/anionic vesicles or complexes formed by the catanionic vesicles and polyelectrolytes is performed by transmission electron microscope (TEM), dynamic light scattering (DLS), conductivity, turbidity, and zeta potential measurements. The size, stability, and the surface charge on the mixed cationic/anionic vesicles or complexes are determined.  相似文献

A thorough understanding of the morphology of the environmental sensitive nanogels was indispensable to obtain a deeper insight on their stimuli‐responsive behavior. Therefore, in this work the colloidal characterization and the study of the inner morphology were related by using light scattering technique and 1H‐nuclear magnetic resonance transverse relaxation measurements combined with the Flory–Rehner theory. Different biocompatible and dual‐stimuli‐sensitive nanogel particles based on poly(2‐diethylaminoethyl) methacrylate were synthesized using three different crosslinkers: two bifunctional and one multifunctional. All the nanogels obtained had a core–shell type heterogeneous morphology, but they presented completely different swelling behaviors due to their different crosslinking points’ distribution and polymeric chains’ microstructure. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The effect of cationic and anionic surfactants, as well as cationic and anionic polyelectrolytes (PE), their binary mixtures on the electrokinetic potential of monodisperse carboxylated polystyrene (PS) particles as a function of the reagents dose, pH, the charge density (CD) of polymers, the surfactant/PE and binary PE mixture composition, and sequence of components addition to the suspension has been studied. It has been shown that addition of increasing amount of anionic surfactant/polyelectrolytes increases the absolute value of the negative zeta-potential of PS particles; this increase is stronger the CD of the PE and pH of the system are higher. Adsorption of cationic surfactant/polyelectrolytes leads to a significant decrease in the negative ζ-potential and to overcharging the particles; changes in the ζ-potential are more pronounced for PE samples with higher CD and for suspensions with lower pH values. In mixtures of cationic and anionic PE, in a wide range of mixture composition, the ζ-potential of particles is determined by the adsorbed amount of the anionic polymer independently of the CD of PEs and the sequence of addition of the mixture components. The isoelectric point of the surface is reached at the adsorbed amount of positive charges of PE that is approximately equal to the surface CD of particles. The laws observed were explained by features of macromolecules conformation in adsorbed mixed PE layers. Considerations about the role of coulombic and non-coulombic forces in the mechanism of anionic/cationic PE adsorption are presented.  相似文献
