Laminar and turbulent burning velocities were measured in a closed-volume fan-stirred vessel for H2–CO mixtures using two independent methods of flame definition. It has been shown that the unsteady flame development is an important factor and it needs to be taken into account for comparison of the burning rates obtained in different experiments. For the atmospheric pressure flames, the mixtures with faster laminar flame velocities burnt faster in turbulent flow despite the fact that the lean flames exhibit cellular structures. However, even a modest increase of the initial pressure promotes strongly cellularity and causes a significant acceleration of a lean laminar flame. The same lean flame burns faster in turbulent flow as well and this increase in the rate of combustion is greater that can be deduced from variation of the molecular heat diffusivity and laminar flame speed.  相似文献

Large eddy simulation (LES) models for flamelet combustion are analyzed by simulating premixed flames in turbulent stagnation zones. ALES approach based on subgrid implementation of the linear eddy model(LEM) is compared with a more conventional approach based on the estimation of the turbulent burning rate. The effects of subgrid turbulence are modeled within the subgrid domain in the LEM-LES approach and the advection (transport between LES cells) of scalars is modeled using a volume-of-fluid (VOF) Lagrangian front tracking scheme. The ability of the VOF scheme to track the flame as a thin front on the LES grid is demonstrated. The combined LEM-LES methodology is shown to be well suited for modeling premixed flamelet combustion. The geometric characteristics of the flame surfaces, their effects on resolved fluid motion and flame-turbulence interactions are well predicted by the LEM-LES approach. It is established here that local laminar propagation of the flamelets needs to be resolved in addition to the accurate estimation of the turbulent reaction rate. A coupled radiation/flamelet combustion modelling technique is applied to the simulation of a bluff-body flame. Radiation heat transfer is incorporated into the laminar flamelet model for turbulent combustion through the enthalpy defect. A new method is developed for generating flamelet library with enthalpy defect. The radiation within the flame is modelled using a raytracing approach based on the discrete transfer method. The predicted results are compared with the reported experimental data. Comparison shows that the effects of radiative heat transferr on the temperature and major species are small for the flame considered. However, a significant improvement in the prediction of OH is achieved when radiation heat transfer is included. Direct numerical simulation is a very powerful tool to evaluate the validity of new models and theories for turbulent combustion. In this paper, direct numerical simulations of spherically expanding premixed turbulent flames in the thin reaction zone regime and in the broken reaction zone regime are performed. The flamelet-generated manifold method is used in order to deal with detailed reaction kinetics. The computational results are analyzed by using an extended flame stretch theory. It is investigated whether this theory is able to describe the influence of flame stretch and curvature on the local burning velocity of the flame. It is found that if the full profiles of flame stretch and curvature through the flame front are included in the theory, the local mass burning rate is well predicted. The influence of several approximations, which are used in other existing theories, is studied. When flame stretch is assumed constant through the flame front or when curvature of the flame front is neglected, the theory fails to predict the local mass burning rate. The influence of using a reduced chemistry model is investigated by comparing flamelet simulations with reduced and detailed chemistry.  相似文献

In this paper, we report results of a numerical investigation of turbulent natural gas combustion for a jet in a coflow of lean combustion products in the Delft-Jet-in-Hot-Coflow (DJHC) burner which emulates MILD (Moderate and Intense Low Oxygen Dilution) combustion behavior. The focus is on assessing the performance of the Eddy Dissipation Concept (EDC) model in combination with two-equation turbulence models and chemical kinetic schemes for about 20 species (Correa mechanism and DRM19 mechanism) by comparing predictions with experimental measurements. We study two different flame conditions corresponding to two different oxygen levels (7.6% and 10.9% by mass) in the hot coflow, and for two jet Reynolds number (Re = 4,100 and Re = 8,800). The mean velocity and turbulent kinetic energy predicted by different turbulence models are in good agreement with data without exhibiting large differences among the model predictions. The realizable k-ε model exhibits better performance in the prediction of entrainment. The EDC combustion model predicts too early ignition leading to a peak in the radial mean temperature profile at too low axial distance. However the model correctly predicts the experimentally observed decreasing trend of lift-off height with jet Reynolds number. A detailed analysis of the mean reaction rate of the EDC model is made and as possible cause for the deviations between model predictions and experiments a low turbulent Reynolds number effect is identified. Using modified EDC model constants prediction of too early ignition can be avoided. The results are weakly sensitive to the sub-model for laminar viscosity and laminar diffusion fluxes.  相似文献

In the present study laminar and turbulent oxy-fuel jet flames are investigated both experimentally and numerically with emphasis on the direct comparison of the Rayleigh signal. The Rayleigh signal was measured for both flame setups, correcting for background light appropriately. Two downstream regions were recorded for the laminar flame and three for the turbulent flame. Equivalently, the signal was processed numerically based on the numerical species data and temperature. The laminar flame was used for validating the procedure of processing the Rayleigh signal. Both the numerical species data and the temperature are known from detailed simulations, so a predicted Rayleigh signal can easily be obtained. Further, the influence of the choice of the kinetic mechanism, radiation and diffusion model was investigated. In contrast, in the turbulent Large Eddy Simulation, the Rayleigh signal has to be computed using an appropriate turbulence-chemistry interaction model in order to obtain the Reynolds-filtered Rayleigh signal which is of non-linear nature. In the present investigation, the Rayleigh signal was incorporated in the flamelet/progress variable approach. The statistics of the experimental and numerical Rayleigh signal were then compared. The proposed procedure of directly comparing the experimental and predicted Rayleigh signal was shown to be advantageous in model validation especially in turbulent flame configurations. The procedure enables accurate model validation across an entire 2D field of view whilst using a realistic fuel-oxidizer combination and reducing experimental complexity.  相似文献

Propellant injection and turbulent combustion in high-pressure engines is often dominated by real-gas effects. However, previous studies suggested that the departure of the fluid properties from an ideal gas behavior has only a limited effect on the laminar flame structure. This is due to the fact that chemical reactions take place in the flame zone where the temperature is sufficiently high and molecular interactions are negligible, i.e., the ideal gas assumption is valid. On the other hand, various experimental and numerical studies of injection processes at high-pressure conditions demonstrated that real-gas effects can have a strong impact on the turbulent flow. Mixing is influenced by the rapid change of fluid properties. In this work, we exploit the gap in the fidelity of the thermodynamics model needed to describe the laminar flame structure and that needed to describe the turbulent flow field. We then propose a new real-gas flamelet model with increased numerical performance. The computational cost of the new formulation is not significantly higher than that of an ideal gas simulation. The performance of the method is analyzed and the error that is introduced by our assumptions is assessed by comparison to more complete modeling. Finally, the method is used to simulate a turbulent jet flame emanating from a coaxial injector at supercritical pressure and cryogenic oxidizer temperature. The results are compared with experimental OH? images giving evidence of the suitability of the present method.  相似文献

A new modeling strategy is developed to introduce tabulated chemistry methods in the LES of turbulent premixed combustion. The objective is to recover the correct laminar flame propagation speed of the filtered flame front when the subgrid scale turbulence vanishes. The filtered flame structure is mapped by 1D filtered laminar premixed flames. Closure of the filtered progress variable and the energy balance equations are carefully addressed. The methodology is applied to 1D and 2D filtered laminar flames. These computations show the capability of the model to recover the laminar flame speed and the correct chemical structure when the flame wrinkling is completely resolved. The model is then extended to turbulent combustion regimes by introducing subgrid scale wrinkling effects on the flame front propagation. A large eddy simulation (LES) is performed for turbulent flow around a bluff body inside a sudden expansion cylinder chamber, a configuration which resembles a premixed gas turbine combustor. To promote turbulent mixing and to accommodate flame stability, a flame holder is installed inside the combustion chamber. The Smagorinsky model and the Lagrangian dynamic subgrid-scale model are employed and tested. The calculated Reynolds number is 5,000 based on the bulk velocity and the diameter of inlet pipe. The simulation code is constructed by using a general coordinate system based on the physical contravariant velocity components. The predicted turbulent statistics are evaluated by comparing with the laser-doppler velocimetry (LDV) measurement data. The agreement of LES with the experimental data is shown to be satisfactory. Emphasis is placed on the time-dependent evolutions of turbulent vortical structures behind the flame holder. The numerical flow visualizations depict the behavior of large-scale vortices. The turbulent behavior behind the flame holder is analyzed by visualizing the sectional views of vortical structure. Despite significant advances in the understanding and modelling of turbulent combustion, no general model has been proposed for simulating flames in industrial combustion devices. Recently, the increase in computational possibilities has raised the hope of directly solving the large turbulent scales using large eddy simulation (LES) and capturing the important time-dependant phenomena. However, the chemical reactions involved in combustion occur at very small scales and the modelling of turbulent combustion processes is still required within the LES framework. In the present paper, a recently presented model for the LES of turbulent premixed flames is presented, analysed and discussed. The flamelet hypothesis is used to derive a filtered source term for the filtered progress variable equation. The model ensures proper flame propagation. The effect of subgrid scale (SGS) turbulence on the flame is modelled through the flame-wrinkling factor. The present modelling of the source term is successfully tested against filtered direct numerical simulation (DNS) data of a V-shape flame. Further, a premixed turbulent flame, stabilised behind an expansion, is simulated. The predictions agree well with the available experimental data, showing the capabilities of the model for performing accurate simulations of unsteady premixed flames.  相似文献

A computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code based on the method of lines (MOL) approach was developed for the solution of transient, two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations for incompressible separated internal flows in complex rectangular geometries. The predictive accuracy of the code was tested by applying it to the prediction of flow fields in both laminar and turbulent channel flows with and without sudden expansion, and comparing its predictions with either measured data or numerical results available in the literature. The predicted flow fields were found to be in favorable agreement with those available in the literature for laminar channel flow with sudden expansion and turbulent channel flow with Re=6600. The code was then applied to the prediction of the highly turbulent flow field in the inlet flue of a heat recovery steam generator (HRSG). The predicted flow field was found to display the same trend with the experimental findings and numerical solutions reported previously for a turbulent diverging duct. As the code uses the MOL approach in conjunction with (i) an intelligent higher-order spatial discretization scheme, (ii) a parabolic algorithm for pressure, and (iii) an elliptic grid generator using a body-fitted coordinate system for complex geometries, it provides an efficient algorithm for future direct numerical simulation (DNS) applications in complex rectangular geometries.  相似文献

In order to determine the mean rate of product creation within the framework of the Turbulent Flame Closure (TFC) model of premixed combustion, the model is combined with a simple closure of turbulent scalar flux developed recently by the present authors based on the flamelet concept of turbulent burning. The model combination is assessed by numerically simulating statistically planar, one-dimensional, developing premixed flames that propagate in frozen turbulence. The mean rate of product creation yielded by the combined model decreases too slowly at the trailing edges of the studied flames, with the effect being more pronounced at longer flame-development times and larger ratios of rms turbulent velocity u′ to laminar flame speed S L . To resolve the problem, the above closure of turbulent scalar flux is modified and the combination of the modified closure and TFC model yields reasonable behaviour of the studied rate. In particular, simulations indicate an increase in the mean combustion progress variable associated with the maximum rate by u′/S L , in line with available DNS data. Finally, the modified closure of turbulent scalar flux is validated by computing conditioned velocities and turbulent scalar fluxes in six impinging-jet flames. The use of the TFC model for simulating such flames is advocated.  相似文献

In this paper, a novel model for turbulent premixed combustion in the corrugated flamelet regime is presented, which is based on transporting a joint probability density function (PDF) of velocity, turbulence frequency and a scalar vector. Due to the high dimensionality of the corresponding sample space, the PDF equation is solved with a Monte-Carlo method, where individual fluid elements are represented by computational particles. Unlike in most other PDF methods, the source term not only describes reaction rates, but accounts for “ignition” of reactive unburnt fluid elements due to propagating embedded quasi laminar flames within a turbulent flame brush. Unperturbed embedded flame structures and a constant laminar flame speed (as expected in the corrugated flamelet regime) are assumed. The probability for an individual particle to “ignite” during a time step is calculated based on an estimate of the mean flame surface density (FSD), latter gets transported by the PDF method. Whereas this model concept has recently been published [21], here, a new model to account for local production and dissipation of the FSD is proposed. The following particle properties are introduced: a flag indicating whether a particle represents the unburnt mixture; a flame residence time, which allows to resolve the embedded quasi laminar flame structure; and a flag indicating whether the flame residence time lies within a specified range. Latter is used to transport the FSD, but to account for flame stretching, curvature effects, collapse and cusp formation, a mixing model for the residence time is employed. The same mixing model also accounts for molecular mixing of the products with a co-flow. To validate the proposed PDF model, simulation results of three piloted methane-air Bunsen flames are compared with experimental data and very good agreement is observed.  相似文献

The present study focuses on numerically investigating the flame structure, flame liftoff, and stabilization in a lifted turbulent H2/N2 jet flame with a vitiated coflow. To realistically represent the turbulent partially premixed nature in the flow region between nozzle exit and flame base, the level‐set approach coupled with the conserved scalar flamelet model has been applied. The unstructured‐grid level‐set approach has been developed to allow the geometric flexibility and computational efficiency for the solution of the physically and geometrically complex reacting flows. The pressure–velocity coupling is handled by the multiple pressure‐correction method. The predicted flame pattern is in good conformity with the measured one. In terms of the liftoff height, the agreement between prediction and experiment is quite good. Even if there are noticeable deviations in a certain region, the predicted profiles for the overall flame structure agree reasonably well with the experimental data. These numerical results indicate that the present level‐set‐based flamelet approach in conjunction with the unstructured‐grid finite‐volume method is capable of realistically predicting the essential features and precise structure of the turbulent‐lifted jet flame with computational efficiency. To study the effects of the boundary layer on the deflagration to detonation transition (DDT) process, the mixture behind an incident shock wave was ignited using laser breakdown. Ignition timing was controlled so that the interaction of the resulting flame with a laminar or turbulent boundary layer could be examined. In the case of the interaction with a laminar boundary layer, wrinkling of the flame was observed after the flame reached the corner of the channel. On the other hand, interaction with the turbulent boundary layer distorted the flame front and increased the spreading rate of the flame followed by prompt DDT. The inner structure of the turbulent boundary layer plays an important role in the DDT process. The region that distorted the flame within the turbulent boundary layer was found to be the intermediate region \(0.01< y/\delta < 0.4\), where y is the distance from the wall and \(\delta \) is the boundary layer thickness. The flame disturbance by the turbulent motions is followed by the flame interaction with the inner layer near the wall, which in turn generates a secondary-ignition kernel that produced a spherical accelerating flame, which ultimately led to the onset of detonation. After the flame reached the intermediate region, the time required for DDT was independent of the ignition position. The effect of the boundary layer on the propagating flame, thus, became relatively small after the accelerating flame was generated.  相似文献

Some types of mixed subgrid-scale (SGS) models combining an isotropic eddy-viscosity model and a scale-similarity model can be used to effectively improve the accuracy of large eddy simulation (LES) in predicting wall turbulence. Abe (2013) has recently proposed a stabilized mixed model that maintains its computational stability through a unique procedure that prevents the energy transfer between the grid-scale (GS) and SGS components induced by the scale-similarity term. At the same time, since this model can successfully predict the anisotropy of the SGS stress, the predictive performance, particularly at coarse grid resolutions, is remarkably improved in comparison with other mixed models. However, since the stabilized anisotropy-resolving SGS model includes a transport equation of the SGS turbulence energy, kSGS, containing a production term proportional to the square root of kSGS, its applicability to flows with both laminar and turbulent regions is not so high. This is because such a production term causes kSGS to self-reproduce. Consequently, the laminar–turbulent transition region predicted by this model depends on the inflow or initial condition of kSGS. To resolve these issues, in the present study, the mixed-timescale (MTS) SGS model proposed by Inagaki et al. (2005) is introduced into the stabilized mixed model as the isotropic eddy-viscosity part and the production term in the kSGS transport equation. In the MTS model, the SGS turbulence energy, kes, estimated by filtering the instantaneous flow field is used. Since the kes approaches zero by itself in the laminar flow region, the self-reproduction property brought about by using the conventional kSGS transport equation model is eliminated in this modified model. Therefore, this modification is expected to enhance the applicability of the model to flows with both laminar and turbulent regions. The model performance is tested in plane channel flows with different Reynolds numbers and in a backward-facing step flow. The results demonstrate that the proposed model successfully predicts a parabolic velocity profile under laminar flow conditions and reduces the dependence on the grid resolution to the same degree as the unmodified model by Abe (2013) for turbulent flow conditions. Moreover, it is shown that the present model is effective at transitional Reynolds numbers. Furthermore, the present model successfully provides accurate results for the backward-facing step flow with various grid resolutions. Thus, the proposed model is considered to be a refined anisotropy-resolving SGS model applicable to laminar, transitional, and turbulent flows.  相似文献

基于火焰不稳定和爆炸超压的耦合机制,通过向光滑火焰模型中引入褶皱因子,建立了褶皱火焰模型和湍流火焰模型,对密闭燃烧室内爆炸超压进行理论预测,且对比了绝热压缩和等温压缩对爆炸超压预测的影响规律。结果表明:在增强的流体动力学不稳定作用下,膨胀火焰失稳加剧,且在定容燃烧阶段形成胞状火焰;光滑火焰模型忽略了火焰不稳定,爆炸超压理论预测值比实验值偏低,且等温压缩下超压预测值低于绝热压缩下的预测值;湍流火焰模型高估了火焰褶皱程度,超压预测值远高于实验值;褶皱火焰模型可成功预测丙烷/空气爆炸压力和燃烧室体积V=25.6 m3的甲烷/空气爆炸压力;对于甲烷/空气爆炸,燃烧室体积V≤1.25 m3时,实验压力值介于褶皱火焰模型和绝热光滑火焰模型预测值之间。  相似文献

Computed tomography (CT) has the potential to greatly enhance our understanding of the turbulent flow structures, the combustion chemistry, and the interactions between the two, which challenge us in our attempts to understand and model the details of turbulent combustion. Here, we present high-resolution and fully three-dimensional measurements of the flame surface of a turbulent reacting flow. The CT-reconstructed images show the flame front, at a single instant in time, of a turbulent, premixed propane/air flame. The significance of this powerful experimental tool is to provide new insight into turbulent combustion, allowing for the development of cleaner burning, higher power, and more efficient combustors.  相似文献

为避免密闭空间内可燃预混气体爆炸事故造成的伤害,对其进行较为准确的爆炸超压预测是抗爆设计和日常安全管理的关键。结合已有文献实验数据,利用光滑层流火焰传播理论模型建立了爆炸超压模型;对比发现,当体积较大时,光滑层流火焰传播理论模型存在较大的误差。较大体积密闭空间爆炸火焰传播过程中的不稳定性造成火焰前锋面褶皱并引起湍流燃烧,导致火焰前锋面表面积大幅增加,且在火焰传播过程中表现出自相似分形特征。依据褶皱及湍流火焰传播过程中的自相似分形特征,基于分形燃烧理论和相关经验数据,进一步建立了考虑可燃预混气体爆炸火焰褶皱及湍流火焰传播的爆炸超压预测模型,并与实验所得结果进行了对比。结果表明:当密闭空间体积较大时,利用褶皱及湍流火焰传播理论建立的爆炸超压模型进行峰值压力估算时,两种工况下实验所得和理论计算所得相对误差分别为10.4%和11.1%,较光滑层流火焰传播理论爆炸超压模型相比,误差分别减少了72.3%和50.6%。本文所建立理论模型与实验所得结果具有较好的一致性,在一定程度上可满足结构抗爆设计或日常安全管理的需要。  相似文献

A boundary-value problem in the theory of propagation of a fine-scale turbulent flame is investigated, taking into account the influence of temperature and concentration pulsations on the magnitude of the heat liberation rate. In contrast to [1], the case when a second-order reaction proceeds in the flame is examined in detail. Conditions are found for the existence of a turbulent flame; the structure of the flame front is studied by a computational method.
