Consider a setA of symmetricn×n matricesa=(a i,j) i,jn . Consider an independent sequence (g i) in of standard normal random variables, and letM=Esupa∈Ai,j⪯nai,jgigj|. Denote byN 2(A, α) (resp.N t(A, α)) the smallest number of balls of radiusα for thel 2 norm ofR n 2 (resp. the operator norm) needed to coverA. Then for a universal constantK we haveα(logN 2(A, α))1/4KM. This inequality is best possible. We also show that forδ≥0, there exists a constantK(δ) such thatα(logN tK(δ)M. The weight-spectrumSp(w, X) of a spaceX is the set of weights of all infinite closed subspaces ofX. We prove that ifκ>ω is regular andX is compactT 2 withω(X)κ then some λ withκ≤λ≤2 is inSp(ω, X). Under CH this implies that the weight spectrum of a compact space can not omitω 1, and thus solves problem 22 of [M]. Also, it is consistent with 2ω=c being anything it can be that every countable closed setT of cardinals less thanc withω ∈ T satisfiesSp(w, X)=T for some separable compact LOTSX. This shows the independence from ZFC of a conjecture made in [AT]. Research supported by OTKA grant no. 1908.  相似文献

LetK be an algebraic number field of finite degree andf(X,T) a polynomial overK. For eachφ(X)∈Z[X], we denote byE(φ) the set of all integersa with φ m (a) =φ n (a) for somem≠n. In this paper, we give a condition for a polynomialφ(X)∈Z[X] to satisfy the following; If forn∈N, there existrK anda∈Z−E(φ) such thatf r, φ m (a)=0, then there exists a rational functiong(X) overK andk∈N such thatf(g(T)), φ k (T))=0 .  相似文献

LetW be a real algebraic set. We show that the following families of integer-valued functions onW coincide: (i) the functions of the formωλ(X ω ), where X ω are the fibres of a regular morphismf :XW of real algebraic sets, (ii) the functions of the formωχ(X ω ), where X ω are the fibres of a proper regular morphismf :XW of real algebraic sets, (iii) the finite sums of signs of polynomials onW. Such functions are called algebraically constructible onW. Using their characterization in terms of signs of polynomials we present new proofs of their basic functorial properties with respect to the link operator and specialization. We study the asymptotic behaviour of the trace (the sum of the diagonal parts) τ n = τ n (ω) of a plane partition ω of the positive integer n, assuming that ω is chosen uniformly at random from the set of all such partitions. We prove that (τ n c 0 n 2/3)/c 1 n 1/3 log1/2 n converges weakly, as n → ∞, to the standard normal distribution, where c 0 = ζ(2)/ [2ζ(3)]2/3, c 1 = √(1/3/) [2ζ(3)]1/3 and ζ(s) = Σ j=1 j s . We consider the problem of embedding a certain finite metric space to the Euclidean space, trying to keep the bi-Lipschitz constant as small as possible. We introduce the notationc 2(X, d) for the least distortion with which the metric space (X, d) may be embedded in a Euclidean space. It is known that if (X, d) is a metric space withn points, thenc 2(X, d)≤0(logn) and the bound is tight. LetT be a tree withn vertices, andd be the metric induced by it. We show thatc 2(T, d)≤0(log logn), that is we provide an embeddingf of its vertices to the Euclidean space, such thatd(x, y)≤‖f(x)−f(y) ‖≤c log lognd(x, y) for some constantc.
Summary In this paper we give an aritmetical characterization of the first difference ΔH(X,−) of the Hilbert function of a closed 0-dimensional subschemeX ofP 3. The main result is then applied to prove that ifX is contained in a complete intersection of type(a, b, c), a≦b≦c then ΔH(X, n) is decreasing forna+c−2.

Let p be an odd prime, c be an integer with (c, p) = 1, and let N be a positive integer with Np − 1. Denote by r(N, c; p) the number of integers a satisfying 1 ≤ aN and 2 ∤ a + ā, where ā is an integer with 1 ≤ āp − 1, c (mod p). It is well known that r(N, c; p) = 1/2N + O(p 1/2log2 p). The main purpose of this paper is to give an asymptotic formula for Σ c=1 p−1(r(N, c; p) − 1/2N)2.  相似文献

The aim of the present paper is to characterize the spectral representation of Gaussian semimartingales. That is, we provide necessary and sufficient conditions on the kernel K for X t = K t (s) dN s to be a semimartingale. Here, N denotes an independently scattered Gaussian random measure on a general space S. We study the semimartingale property of X in three different filtrations. First, the ℱ X -semimartingale property is considered, and afterwards the ℱ X,∞-semimartingale property is treated in the case where X is a moving average process and ℱ t X,∞=σ(X s :s∈(−∞,t]). Finally, we study a generalization of Gaussian Volterra processes. In particular, we provide necessary and sufficient conditions on K for the Gaussian Volterra process −∞ t K t (s) dW s to be an ℱ W,∞-semimartingale (W denotes a Wiener process). Hereby we generalize a result of Knight (Foundations of the Prediction Process, 1992) to the nonstationary case.  相似文献

We deal with (n−1)-generated modules of smooth (analytic, holomorphic) vector fieldsV=(X 1,..., Xn−1) (codimension 1 differential systems) defined locally on ℝ n or ℂ n , and extend the standard duality(X 1,..., Xn−1)↦(ω), ω=Ω(X1,...,Xn−1,.,) (Ω−a volume form) betweenV′s and 1-generated modules of differential 1-forms (Pfaffian equations)—when the generatorsX i are linearly independent—onto substantially wider classes of codimension 1 differential systems. We prove that two codimension 1 differential systemsV and are equivalent if and only if so are the corresponding Pfaffian equations (ω) and provided that ω has1-division property: ωΛμ=0, μ—any 1-form ⇒ μ=fω for certain function germf. The 1-division property of ω turns out to be equivalent to the following properties ofV: (a)fX∈V, f—not a 0-divisor function germ ⇒X∈V (thedivision property); (b) (V )=V; (c)V =(ω); (d) (ω)=V, where ⊥ denotes the passing from a module (of vector fields or differential 1-forms) to its annihilator. Here we prove the following result. Theorem 1.1.Let X be an integral projective curve of arithmetic genus g and k≧ ≧4 an integer. Assume the existence of L ∈ Pick (X) with h 0 (X, L)=2 and L spanned. Fix a rank 1 torsion free sheaf M on X with h 0(X,M)=r+1≧2, h1 (X, M)≧2 and M spanned by its global sections. Set d≔deg(M) and s≔max {n≧0:h 0 (X, M ⊗(L*)⊗n)>0}. Then one of the following cases occur:
(a)  M≊L ⊗r;
(b)  M is the subsheaf of ω X⊗(L*)⊗t, t:=g−d+r−1, spanned by H0(X, ωX⊗(L*)⊗t);
(c)  there is a rank 1 torsion free sheaf F on X with 1≦h 0(X, F)≦k−2 such that M≊L⊗s⊗F. Moreover, if we fix an integer m with 2≦m≦k−2 and assume r#(s+1)k−(ns+n+1) per every 2≦n≦m, we have h0 (X, F)≦k−m−1.
We find also other upper bounds onh 0 (X, F).
Si ponga d≔deg(M) e s≔max{n≧0:h 0(X, M ⊗(L*)⊗n)>0}. Allora si verifica uno dei casi seguenti:
(a)  M≊L ⊗r;
(b)  M è il sottofascio di ω X⊗(L*)⊗t, t:=g−d+r−1 generato da H0 (X, ωX⊗(L*)⊗t);
(c)  esiste un fascio senza torsione di rango un F su X con 1≦h 0 (X, F) <=k−2 tale che M ≊L ⊗8 ⊗ F. Inoltre, se si fissa un intero m con 2≦m≦k−2 e si suppone r#(s+1) k−(ns+n+1) per ogni 2≦n≦m, si ottiene h 0 (X, F)≦k−m−1.
Si ricavano anche altre maggiorazioni suh 0,(X, F).

Fix integersg, k andt witht>0,k≥3 andtk<g/2−1. LetX be a generalk-gonal curve of genusg andR∈Pic k (X) the uniqueg k 1 onX. SetL:=K X⊗(R *)⊗t.L is very ample. Leth L:XP(H 0(X, L)*) be the associated embedding. Here we prove thath L(X) is projectively normal. Ifk≥4 andtk<g/2−2 the curveh L(X) is scheme-theoretically cut out by quadrics. LetW be an algebraically closed filed of characteristic zero, letK be an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero, complete for an ultrametric absolute value, and letA(K) (resp. ℳ(K)) be the set of entire (resp. meromorphic) functions inK. For everyn≥7, we show that the setS n(b) of zeros of the polynomialx nb (b≠0) is such that, iff, gW[x] or iff, gA(K), satisfyf −1(S n(b))=g −1(S n(b)), thenf n=g n. For everyn≥14, we show thatS n(b) is such that iff, gW({tx}) or iff, g ∈ ℳ(K) satisfyf −1(S n(b))=g −1(S n(b)), then eitherf n=g n, orfg is a constant. Analogous properties are true for complex entire and meromorphic functions withn≥8 andn≥15, respectively. For everyn≥9, we show that the setY n(c) of zeros of the polynomial , (withc≠0 and 1) is an ursim ofn points forW[x], and forA(K). For everyn≥16, we show thatY n(c) is an ursim ofn points forW(x), and for ℳ(K). We follow a method based on thep-adic Nevanlinna Theory and use certain improvement of a lemma obtained by Frank and Reinders.  相似文献

Denote by Kω(z, ζ) the Bergman kernel of a pseudoconvex domain Ω. For some classes of domains Ω, a relationship is found between the rate of increase of Kω(z, z) as z tends to ∂Ω, and a purely geometric property of Ω. Bibliography: 5 titles. The problem is the following: How many questions are necessary in the worst case to determine whether a pointX in then-dimensional Euclidean spaceR n belongs to then-dimensional unit cubeQ n, where we are allowed to ask which halfspaces of (n−1)-dimensional hyperplanes contain the pointX? It is known that ⌌3n/2⌍ questions are sufficient. We prove here thatcn questions are necessary, wherec≈1.2938 is the solution of the equationx log2 x−(x−1) log2 (x−1)=1.  相似文献

Suppose σ is an equivalence on a set X and let E(X, σ) denote the semigroup (under composition) of all α: XX such that σαα −1. Here we characterise Green’s relations and ideals in E(X, σ). This is analogous to recent work by Sullivan on K(V, W), the semigroup (under composition) of all linear transformations β of a vector space V such that W ⊆ ker β, where W is a fixed subspace of V.  相似文献

We consider various forms of the Conjecture of Chang. Part A constitutes an introduction. Donder and Koepke have shown that if ρ is a cardinal such that ρ ≧ ω1, and (ρ+++↠(ρ+, ρ), then 0+ exists. We obtain the same conclusion in Part B starting from some other forms of the transfer hypothesis. As typical corollaries, we get: Theorem A.Assume that there exists cardinals λ, κ, such that λ ≧ K + ≧ω2 and (λ+, λ)↠(K +,K. Then 0+ exists. Theorem B.Assume that there exists a singularcardinal κ such that(K +,K↠(ω1, ω0. Then 0+ exists. Theorem C.Assume that (λ ++, λ). Then 0+ exists (also ifK=ω 0. Remark. Here, as in the paper of Donder and Koepke, “O+ exists” is a matter of saying that the hypothesis is strictly stronger than “L(μ) exists”. Of course, the same proof could give a few more sharps overL(μ), but the interest is in expecting more cardinals, coming from a larger core model. Theorem D.Assume that (λ ++, λ)↠(K +, K) and thatK≧ω 1. Then 0+ exists. Remark 2. Theorem B is, as is well-known, false if the hypothesis “κ is singular” is removed, even if we assume thatK≧ω 2, or that κ is inaccessible. We shall recall this in due place. Comments. Theorem B and Remark 2 suggest we seek the consistency of the hypothesis of the form:K +, K↠(ωn +1, ωn), for κ singular andn≧0. 0266 0152 V 3 The consistency of several statements of this sort—a prototype of which is (N ω+1,N ω)↠(ω1, ω0) —have been established, starting with an hypothesis slightly stronger than: “there exists a huge cardinal”, but much weaker than: “there exists a 2-huge cardinal”. These results will be published in a joint paper by M. Magidor, S. Shelah, and the author of the present paper.  相似文献

We construct the Chow ringCH*(X) =CH 0 (X)⊕CH 1 (X)⊕CH 2 (X) of a reduced, quasi-projective surfaceX, together with Chern class mapsc i :K 0 (X) → CH i (X), with the usual properties. As a consequence, we show that the cycle mapCH 2 (X)→ F 0 K 0 (X) is an isomorphism. Our treatment is greatly influenced by an unpublished 1983 preprint of Levine’s, but is much simpler, since we deal only with surfaces.  相似文献
