We investigate a relationship between the caustics of a submanifold of general dimension and of a canal hypersurface of the submanifold in Euclidean space. As a consequence, these caustics are the same. Moreover, induced Lagrangian immersion germs are Lagrangian equivalent under a suitable condition. In order to show the results, we use the theory of Lagrangian singularity and of Legendrian singularity.  相似文献

We present Noether symmetries of a geodetic Lagrangian for a time-conformal cylindrically symmetric space–time. We introduce a time-conformal factor in the general cylindrically symmetric space–time to make it nonstatic and then find approximate Noether symmetries of the action of the corresponding Lagrangian. Taking the perturbation up to the first order, we find all Lagrangians for cylindrically symmetric space–times for which approximate Noether symmetries exist.  相似文献

We consider Darboux transformations for operators of arbitrary order and construct the general theory of Bäcklund transformations based on the Lagrangian formalism. The dressing chain for the Boussinesq equation and its reduction are demonstrative examples for the suggested general theory. Abstract

Variational principles in which the Lagrangian is a scalar density and a function of a metric tensor and a vector field, together with their first derivatives, are investigated in a 4-dimensional space. Associated with such Lagrangians are two expressions, the metric Euler-Lagrange expression and the vector Euler-Lagrange expression. The most general Lagrangians (of this kind) for which either of these Euler-Lagrange expressions vanishes identically, are obtained.

The most general Lagrangian (of this kind) for which the vector Euler-Lagrange equations are precisely Maxwell's equations is obtained. Although this Lagrangian is more general than the one commonly used, it still has essentially the same energy-momentum tensor.

The most general Lagrangian (of this kind) for which the metric Euler-Lagrange expression is precisely the electromagnetic energy-momentum tensor is derived. Although this Lagrangian is also more general than the one commonly used, the associated vector Euler-Lagrange equations are still Maxwell's equations.

Finally it is shown that, in contrast to the situation which obtains in the case of scalar densities which are functions of up to second derivatives of the metric and first derivatives of the vector field, there does not exist a Lagrangian, of the kind under investigation, for which the metric Euler-Lagrange expression is precisely the Einstein tensor and the vector Euler-Lagrange expression vanishes identically.  相似文献

In this paper, we design a numerical algorithm for solving a simple bilevel program where the lower level program is a nonconvex minimization problem with a convex set constraint. We propose to solve a combined problem where the first order condition and the value function are both present in the constraints. Since the value function is in general nonsmooth, the combined problem is in general a nonsmooth and nonconvex optimization problem. We propose a smoothing augmented Lagrangian method for solving a general class of nonsmooth and nonconvex constrained optimization problems. We show that, if the sequence of penalty parameters is bounded, then any accumulation point is a Karush-Kuch-Tucker (KKT) point of the nonsmooth optimization problem. The smoothing augmented Lagrangian method is used to solve the combined problem. Numerical experiments show that the algorithm is efficient for solving the simple bilevel program.  相似文献

In this work we study pseudo-parallel Lagrangian submanifolds in a complex space form. We give several general properties of pseudo-parallel submanifolds. For the 2-dimensional case, we show that any minimal Lagrangian surface is pseudo-parallel. We also give examples of non-minimal pseudo-parallel Lagrangian surfaces. Here we prove a local classification of the pseudo-parallel Lagrangian surfaces. In particular, semi-parallel Lagrangian surfaces are totally geodesic or flat. Finally, we give examples of pseudo-parallel Lagrangian surfaces which are not semi-parallel.  相似文献

We consider a problem of minimizing an extended real-valued function defined in a Hausdorff topological space. We study the dual problem induced by a general augmented Lagrangian function. Under a simple set of assumptions on this general augmented Lagrangian function, we obtain strong duality and existence of exact penalty parameter via an abstract convexity approach. We show that every cluster point of a sub-optimal path related to the dual problem is a primal solution. Our assumptions are more general than those recently considered in the related literature.  相似文献

We develop a formally high order Eulerian–Lagrangian Weighted Essentially Nonoscillatory (EL‐WENO) finite volume scheme for nonlinear scalar conservation laws that combines ideas of Lagrangian traceline methods with WENO reconstructions. The particles within a grid element are transported in the manner of a standard Eulerian–Lagrangian (or semi‐Lagrangian) scheme using a fixed velocity v. A flux correction computation accounts for particles that cross the v‐traceline during the time step. If v = 0, the scheme reduces to an almost standard WENO5 scheme. The CFL condition is relaxed when v is chosen to approximate either the characteristic or particle velocity. Excellent numerical results are obtained using relatively long time steps. The v‐traceback points can fall arbitrarily within the computational grid, and linear WENO weights may not exist for the point. A general WENO technique is described to reconstruct to any order the integral of a smooth function using averages defined over a general, nonuniform computational grid. Moreover, to high accuracy, local averages can also be reconstructed. By re‐averaging the function to a uniform reconstruction grid that includes a point of interest, one can apply a standard WENO reconstruction to obtain a high order point value of the function. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We consider the fluid-structure interaction problem arising in haemodynamic applications. The finite elasticity equations for the vessel are written in Lagrangian form, while the Navier-Stokes equations for the blood in Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian form. The resulting three fields problem (fluid/ structure/ fluid domain) is formalized via the introduction of three Lagrange multipliers and consistently discretized by p-th order backward differentiation formulae (BDFp). We focus on partitioned algorithms for its numerical solution, which consist in the successive solution of the three subproblems. We review several strategies that all rely on the exchange of Robin interface conditions and review their performances reported recently in the literature. We also analyze the stability of explicit partitioned procedures and convergence of iterative implicit partitioned procedures on a simple linear FSI problem for a general BDFp temporal discretizations.  相似文献

Using a perturbation approach, the Kuhn-Tucker saddlepoint and stationary-point optimality conditions and a Lagrangian duality theory are established for a general class of continuous-time nonlinear programming problems. We consider the augmented Lagrangian method (ALM) as a solver for the fused lasso signal approximator (FLSA) problem. The ALM is a dual method in which squares of the constraint functions are added as penalties to the Lagrangian. In order to apply this method to FLSA, two types of auxiliary variables are introduced to transform the original unconstrained minimization problem into a linearly constrained minimization problem. Each updating in this iterative algorithm consists of just a simple one-dimensional convex programming problem, with closed form solution in many cases. While the existing literature mostly focused on the quadratic loss function, our algorithm can be easily implemented for general convex loss. We also provide some convergence analysis of the algorithm. Finally, the method is illustrated with some simulation datasets.  相似文献

We raise some questions about duality theories in global optimization. The main one concerns the possibility to extend the use of conjugacies to general dualities for studying dual optimization problems. In fact, we examine whether dualities are the most general concepts to get duality results. We also consider the passage from a Lagrangian approach to a perturbational approach and the reverse passage in the framework of general dualities. Since a notion of subdifferential can be defined for any duality, it is natural to examine whether the familiar interpretation of multipliers as generalized derivatives of the performance function associated with a dualizing parameterization of the given problem is still valid in the general framework of dualities.  相似文献

This paper studies the structure of the singularity of Lagrangian manifolds in a neighborhood of the surface of singular extremals of second order in optimal control problems. For the Fuller classical problem, the structure of the Lagrangian manifold is explicitly constructed: it is shown that it has a singularity of conic type at the origin of coordinates. In the general case, it is proved that the Lagrangian manifold is a locally trivial fiber bundle over the surface of singular extremals with each fiber having a singularity of a similar conic type at the point of exit of the singular extremals.  相似文献

Duality formulations can be derived from a nonlinear primal optimization problem in several ways. One abstract theoretical concept presented by Johri is the framework of general dual problems. They provide the tightest of specific bounds on the primal optimum generated by dual subproblems which relax the primal problem with respect to the objective function or to the feasible set or even to both. The well-known Lagrangian dual and surrogate dual are shown to be special cases. Dominating functions and including sets which are the two relaxation devices of Johri's general dual turn out to be the most general formulations of augmented Lagrangian functions and augmented surrogate regions.  相似文献

We examine the L 2-topology of the gauge orbits over a closed Riemann surface. We prove a subtle local slice theorem based on the div-curl lemma of harmonic analysis, and deduce local pathwise connectedness of the gauge orbits. Based on a quantitative version of the connectivity, we generalize compactness results for anti-self-dual instantons with Lagrangian boundary conditions to general gauge-invariant Lagrangian submanifolds. This provides the foundation for the construction of instanton Floer homology for pairs of a 3-manifold with boundary and a Lagrangian in the configuration space over the boundary.  相似文献
