The purpose of this study was to determine the value of Gradient Echo imaging for the evaluation of cartilage (3D fatsat) and blood products (2D Hemoflash), and the use of contrast enhanced SE imaging for the evaluation of synovial changes, in comparison to the clinical evaluation of children with hemophilia A. We investigated 21 joints in 16 patients with evidence of hemophilia A (mean age 11.3+/-2.1 years). In all patients, clinical examination, plain film radiographs, and MR evaluation were performed magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was performed by using sagittal T1 SE and T2 SE images, as well as 3D fatsat GE and 2D GE images. Axial and sagittal T1 weighted SE images were obtained before and after contrast application. Findings from the clinical examination and MR imaging, regarding the evaluation of blood, synovia, and cartilage were compared. Clinical examination revealed evidence of a bleeding episode in 12 joints (57.1%), whereas MRI revealed evidence of blood or blood products in 15 joints (71.4%). Clinical investigations, including bleeding scores, pain scores, and physical examination scores did not correlate with MR findings. Due to the MR findings in 6 of 16 patients, therapeutic management was changed from on demand to prophylactic therapy. MR imaging with gradient echo and contrast-enhanced sequences is more sensitive than clinical examination for the detection of blood products in children with hemophilia. Its ability to demonstrate potentially early stages of cartilage or synovial alterations might assist in therapy planning. Clinical scores might underestimate effects of hemophilia.  相似文献

Excessive obesity can pose a limitation to both clinical and radiographic evaluation. Although CT and MR have revolutionized head and body imaging, patients with weights above 300 lb present a restriction of these imaging modalities. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is well suited for imaging excessively obese patients, because the RF used does not have difficulty in penetrating large amounts of adipose tissue as ionizing radiation or sound waves does. The limitations of conventional MR imaging in these obese patients are the gantry size and the table weight limit. The recent development of a new low field MR imager with a larger gantry size and greater weight capacity, has the potential for imaging obese patients that cannot be evaluated by standard CT or MR. In this paper, we report our experience in imaging nine excessively obese patients with weights between 350 and 490 lb using a permanent magnet operating at 0.064 T.  相似文献

The purpose of the study was to evaluate the feasibility of pure vegetable oil as an MR contrast agent for rectal applications. The hypothesis was that vegetable oil highlights the lumen of the rectum after rectal application as a positive contrast medium and offers additional contrast qualities using fat suppression techniques. Eleven MRI examinations were performed on 11 subjects (five healthy volunteers, all males, mean age 35 yr; and six patients, three males, three females, mean age 49 yr). Peanut oil, 200 ml, was applied rectally. In addition, 0.1 mmol/kg GD-DTPA was administered intravenously to the six patients only. Conventional T1-weighted SE sequences and and T1-weighted SE images with fat suppression were obtained. Criteria for image evaluation were: overall image quality; uniformity of contrast distribution; chemical shift artifact; and delineation of the rectal wall. Side effects were assessed. There were no complaints reported by the 11 subjects. The image quality was sufficient in all studies. In all five of the volunteers and five of the six patients, the distribution of oil was uniform. Chemical shift artifacts did not deteriorate image quality. After rectal application of vegetable oil, the delineation of the rectal wall was sufficient with and without fat suppression techniques. Vegetable oil highlights the lumen of the rectum in MRI studies and offers additional contrast qualities with fat suppression techniques, acting as a positive as well as a negative contrast agent, depending on the chosen sequence.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the value of Ferumoxide-enhanced magnetic resonance (MR) imaging in the detection of hepatic metastases in high-risk patients treated for colorectal cancer that have rising CEA. We used 19 patients treated previously for colorectal cancer with rising CEA levels underwent an unenhanced T(1)-weighted (T1W), T(2)-weighted (T2W), STIR, and Ferumoxide-enhanced hepatic MRI. Following these studies, a laparotomy was performed and the liver was evaluated by palpation and intraoperative ultrasound. Two observers who were blinded to surgical results evaluated each MR sequence separately. The number of lesions considered highly suspicious for metastatic lesions were determined for each sequence and were compared to the results of surgery. The McNemar test was used to compare the outcomes of the different sequences. MR Imaging was unable to detect small (<5 mm) metastases discovered at surgery. The best non-contrast sequences for detecting metastases were the STIR with 42% sensitivity, 83% specificity and an overall accuracy of 56% and the T1W sequence (sensitivity 38%, specificity 100%, accuracy 57%), which were not significantly different (p 0.4). The noncontrast T2W sequence had a sensitivity of 29% and a specificity of 77% with an overall accuracy of 46%. When all pre contrast scans were grouped together the common sensitivity was 42%, specificity was 77% and accuracy was 54%. The post-ferumoxide T(2)W scans had a sensitivity of 42%, specificity of 85%, and accuracy of 57%, but did not detect any additional lesions. There was no statistical difference between the pre- and post-contrast studies with regard to identifying patients with metastatic disease (p 0.1). In conclusion, we found small hepatic metastases in patients with early signs of recurrent colorectal cancer are difficult to detect on MRI. Ferumoxide-enhanced MRI was unable to detect additional hepatic metastases and performed no better than unenhanced MRI in detecting small hepatic metastasis.  相似文献

Our purpose was to evaluate the role of MRI in distinguishing fibrous from active residual masses in treated Hodgkin's disease. Forty patients with residual mediastinal mass larger than 1.5 cm underwent MRI 1, 3, 6, and 12 months after the end of cycles of prescribed chemotherapy or combined chemoradiotherapy. The MRI examinations were performed on a 0.5 and a 1.5 T systems, using T(1) before and after gadolinium injection and T(2)-weighted sequences. Each time the residual mass was evaluated in size and signal intensity on spin echo (SE) T(2)-weighted images and on SE T(1)-weighted images after contrast medium. Low signal intensity and low contrast enhancement were considered signs of inactive residues; homogeneous high signal intensity and high contrast enhancement were indicative of active residual disease; heterogeneous signal intensity and heterogeneous contrast enhancement were indicative of partial remission or necrotic/inflammatory phenomena. MR showed high diagnostic accuracy in the evaluation of Hodgkin's mediastinal residues after treatment, if performed at least 6 months after the end of therapy, reaching the highest sensitivity and specificity values at 12 month follow-up (considering the three parameters-T(2) signal intensity, contrast-enhancement, and size-all together). If we consider the single parameters individually, we can observe that size variation remains the more valuable parameter to predict or to exclude a relapse. MR diagnostic accuracy at the 6-month follow-up was lower due to the higher incidence of inhomogeneous pattern. The accuracy of MR performed at 1 and at 3 months after the end of therapy was not satisfying. This represents a clinical problem because the most important clinical decisions have to be taken just in this early post-treatment phase.  相似文献

MR imaging findings in recurrent primary osseous Ewing sarcoma   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The objective of this study was to determine the value of magnetic resonance (MR) imaging in diagnosing local recurrence of Ewing sarcoma. We retrospectively reviewed radiographs, Tc99m-methylene diphosphonate (MDP) skeletal scintigraphy, computed tomography scans, and MR studies of 11 patients who had local recurrences of osseous Ewing sarcoma following initial responses to chemotherapy and local radiation. The MR images were compared to those of a control group of nine patients who had no evidence of relapse. T1- and T2-weighted MR images identified 9 of the 11 recurrences. Computed tomography was diagnostic in 4 of 6 cases evaluated, Tc99m-MDP bone scintigraphy in 4 of 11 cases, and plain radiographs in 2 of 10. MR findings at relapse included changes in signal intensity, increased extent of abnormal marrow signal on T1- and T2-weighted images, and identification of a new soft tissue mass. These findings suggest that MR imaging is valuable in the routine follow-up of parimary osseous Ewing sarcoma.  相似文献

Lung cancer metastases comprise most of all brain metastases in adults and most brain metastases are diagnosed by magnetic resonance (MR) scans. The purpose of this study was to conduct an MR imaging-based radiomic analysis of brain metastatic lesions from patients with primary lung cancer to classify mutational status of the metastatic disease. We retrospectively identified lung cancer patients with brain metastases treated at our institution between 2009 and 2017 who underwent genotype testing of their primary lung cancer. Brain MR Images were used for segmentation of enhancing tumors and peritumoral edema, and for radiomic feature extraction. The most relevant radiomic features were identified and used with clinical data to train random forest classifiers to classify the mutation status. Of 110 patients in the study cohort (mean age 57.51 ± 12.32 years; M: F = 37:73), 75 had an EGFR mutation, 21 had an ALK translocation, and 15 had a KRAS mutation. One patient had both ALK translocation and EGFR mutation. Majority of radiomic features most relevant for mutation classification were textural. Model building using both radiomic features and clinical data yielded more accurate classifications than using either alone. For classification of EGFR, ALK, and KRAS mutation status, the model built with both radiomic features and clinical data resulted in area-under-the-curve (AUC) values based on cross-validation of 0.912, 0.915, and 0.985, respectively. Our study demonstrated that MR imaging-based radiomic analysis of brain metastases in patients with primary lung cancer may be used to classify mutation status. This approach may be useful for devising treatment strategies and informing prognosis.  相似文献

Synovial sarcoma: MR imaging   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Ten patients with biopsy-proved synovial sarcoma were evaluated by magnetic resonance (MR) imaging on a 1.5-T unit. The lesions showed intermediate signal intensity on T1-weighted images and heterogeneous high signal intensity on T2-weighted images. Tumors were well-demarcated from normal tissues. Additional information included adjacent bone involvement (one case), femoral vein invasion by tumor (one case), and hemorrhage within the tumors (one case). Four patients underwent a repeat MR examination following chemotherapy. This showed a decrease in size and increase in the signal intensity of three tumors on T2-weighted images, proven to be due to necrosis in one. These changes correlated with clinical regression of disease. While MR in synovial sarcoma does not have any specific signal intensity, it proved to be useful in defining the extent of disease and in determining the response to chemotherapy.  相似文献

To demonstrate the MR imaging features of liver metastases in patients with the clinical and histologic diagnosis of tumors of unknown primary tumors, a retrospective 7-year study was performed that included a total of 14 consecutive patients (7 men and 7 women; age range, 39-82 years; mean age, 60.6 years) with liver metastases from unknown primary site who had undergone MR imaging. The following lesion features were evaluated: a) number, b) diameter, c) signal intensity on T1 and T(2)-weighted images, and d) pattern of enhancement on immediate, 45 s and 90 s post gadolinium images. Lesions were classified as hypovascular, hypervascular and nearly isovascular relative to liver parenchyma as shown on immediate post gadolinium images. Patients were separated into four major groups, related to the histologic diagnosis of the lesions: (I) poorly differentiated neoplasms; (II) well-differentiated and moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma; (III) squamous cell carcinoma; (IV) combined poorly differentiated carcinoma and poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma. MRI findings were correlated with histologic information obtained by chart review and confirmed by retrospective histopathology review. All patients had the histologic diagnosis of adenocarcinoma: 8 patients belonged to group II (1 patient with the subtype well-differentiated and 7 patients with the subtype moderately differentiated) and 6 patients to group IV. Eleven patients (79%) presented with multiple lesions distributed throughout both hepatic lobes; 3 patients exhibited solitary lesions. All solitary metastases possessed a diameter equal or larger than 5 cm. Patients with multiple metastases demonstrated a wide range of diameter, ranging from less than 1.5 cm to more than 5 cm. Regarding lesion vascularity, 4 of 13 of the patients had hypovascular metastases and 9 of 13 of the patients had hypervascular lesions. One patient demonstrated both types of lesions. Five of six patients with the histopathologic diagnosis of poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma demonstrated hypervascular metastases. Solitary metastases were most often hypovascular (2 of 3); however no correlation with the histologic subtype was possible. Liver metastases from unknown primary site are often multiple and often hypervascular. Poorly differentiated tumors are the most common histologic type. Metastases are not uncommonly hypovascular, and these are often solitary.  相似文献

The signs and symptoms of pulmonary lymphangioleiomyomatosis are nonspecific, but the radiographic findings, particularly those on computed tomographic (CT) scans, often suggest the diagnosis. Although evaluation of the lungs on magnetic resonance (MR) scans is limited, MR findings in some diffuse lung diseases have been described. This report illustrates a case of lymphangioleiomyomatosis in which the diagnosis was suggested by the appearance of the lungs on spin-echo MR images.  相似文献

Serial MR imaging of intracranial metastases after radiosurgery   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Purpose: To evaluate the spatiotemporal evolution of radiosurgical induced changes both in metastases and in normal brain tissue adjacent to the lesions by serial magnetic resonance (MR) imaging. Methods and Materials: Thirty-five intracranial metastases of different primaries were treated in 25 patients by single high-dose radiosurgery. MR images acquired before radiosurgery were available in all patients. Sixty-three follow-up MR studies were performed in these patients including T2- and contrast-enhanced T1-weighted MR images. The average follow-up time was 9 ± 5 months (mean ± standard deviation [SD]). Based on contrast-enhanced T1-weighted MR images, tumor response was radiologically classified in the following four groups: stable disease was assumed if the average tumor diameter after treatment did not show a tumor shrinkage of more than 50% and an increase of more than 25%, partial remission as a shrinkage of tumor size of more than 50%, a disappearance of contrast-enhancing tumor as a complete remission, and an increase of tumor diameter of more than 25% as tumor progress. Moreover, we analysed signal changes on T2-weighted images in brain parenchyma adjacent to the enhancing metastases. Results: The overall mean survival time was 10.5 ± 7 months, with a 1-year actuarial survival rate of 40%. Stable disease, partial or complete remission of the metastatic tumor was observed in 22 patients (88%). Central or homogeneous loss of contrast enhancement appeared to be a good prognostic sign for stable disease or partial remission. This association was statistically significant (p < 0.05). Three patients (12%) suffered from tumor progression. In eight patients (32%) with stable disease or partial remission, signal changes on T2-weighted images were observed in tissue adjacent to the contrast enhancing lesions. A progression of the high signal on T2-weighted images was seen in seven of the eight patients between 3 and 6 months after therapy, followed by a signal regression 6–18 months after irradiation. Conclusion: MR imaging is a sensitive imaging tool to evaluate tumor response as well as the presence or absence of adjacent parenchymal changes following radiosurgery. Loss of homogeneous or central contrast enhancement on Gd-enhanced MR images appeared to be a good prognostic sign for tumor response. Tumor shrinkage seems not to be dependent on time. In addition, most cases of radiation induced changes in normal brain parenchyma observed on T2-weighted images seem to be self limited.  相似文献

A retrospective review of 21 patients with lesions involving the fourth ventricle was performed to determine the relative capability of computed tomography (CT) and MR for detection, characterization, localization, and diagnosis. Lesions involving the fourth ventricle included ependymoma (three), subependymoma (one), glioma (five), cysticercosis cyst (three), medulloblastoma (three), bleeding into the fourth ventricle (two), epidermoid cyst (two), “trapped” fourth ventricle (one), and lymphomatoid granuloma (one). Posterior fossa lesions that displaced but did not invade the fourth ventricle were excluded. Lesion detectability on CT was judged excellent in ten, good in 8, and fair or poor in 3. Detectability of lesions by MR was judged excellent in 16 and good in 5. There was complete agreement on lesion extension between CT and MR in 6 lesions, mild disagreement in 4, and moderate to significant disagreement in 11. Preoperatively, MR alone correctly diagnosed seven lesions, and CT alone correctly diagnosed three lesions. A review of the combined scans (after the correct diagnosis was given) showed both CT and MR were equal in the diagnosis of 14 lesions, MR better than CT in six, and CT better in one. There was complete agreement on both CT and MR with the surgical/pathologic findings in three lesions. Both studies proved disappointing in their ability to make the correct histologic diagnosis, probably because CT and MR characteristics may not always offer a definitive diagnosis and because of the wide spectrum of pathologic processes that may involve the fourth ventricle.  相似文献

Lateral ventricular volumes based on segmented brain MR images can be significantly underestimated if partial volume effects are not considered. This is because a group of voxels in the neighborhood of lateral ventricles is often mis-classified as gray matter voxels due to partial volume effects. This group of voxels is actually a mixture of ventricular cerebro-spinal fluid and the white matter and therefore, a portion of it should be included as part of the lateral ventricular structure. In this note, we describe an automated method for the measurement of lateral ventricular volumes on segmented brain MR images. Image segmentation was carried in combination of intensity correction and thresholding. The method is featured with a procedure for addressing mis-classified voxels in the surrounding of lateral ventricles. A detailed analysis showed that lateral ventricular volumes could be underestimated by 10 to 30% depending upon the size of the lateral ventricular structure, if mis-classified voxels were not included. Validation of the method was done through comparison with the averaged manually traced volumes. Finally, the merit of the method is demonstrated in the evaluation of the rate of lateral ventricular enlargement.  相似文献

We assessed the magnetic resonance (MR) imaging characteristics of two categories of epileptogenic substrates, neoplasms, and vascular malformations, to determine MR sensitivity and typical imaging features. A blinded retrospective analysis was performed on MR scans from 41 patients who had a neoplasm or vascular malformation surgically resected as treatment for medically refractory epilepsy. Abnormalities were assessed for sensitivity of MR detection, prediction of pathologic category, location, calvarial remodelling, signal intensity, and effect on adjacent tissue. Pathologic findings consisted of 33 tumors and 8 vascular malformations. We correctly localized 100% of the 41 lesions and predicted the correct pathologic category for 95% of these lesions. Neoplastic and vascular lesions (NVLs) associated with epilepsy had certain characteristic features. The temporal lobe was the most common site for NVL, involved in 68%. NVL were located in the brain periphery in 85% and remodelled the calvarium in 32%. NVL were associated with mass effect in 61%, volume loss in 1%, and no effect on adjacent tissue in 37%. NVL associated with epilepsy can be detected with high sensitivity using MR imaging. The temporal lobe location, cortical involvement, and calvarial remodelling are findings typical of NVL. MR characteristics can successfully predict the pathologic substrate of these lesions.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to assess the feasibility of sequential administration of 2 different MR imaging contrast agents using a single visit protocol to image focal liver abnormalities. Twenty-one patients with known or suspected liver lesions were included in the study. All patients received a bolus intravenous injection of gadolinium chelate (Gd) and dynamically enhanced imaging performed. The patients then received an injection of mangafodipir trisodium (Mn) contrast and a second scan performed with an average delay of 62 min after the Gd bolus injection. The images were evaluated to determine the appearance of liver lesions after administration of each contrast agent, and for evidence of prior Gd administration adversely affecting evaluation of images acquired after Mn administration. Focal liver lesions were present in 19 patients, including 8 with liver metastases, 1 with liver lymphoma, 6 with hemangiomas, 3 with focal nodular hyperplasia (FNH), and 1 with hepatic abscess. In 2 other patients no liver lesions were identified in either the post-Gd or post-Gd-post-Mn scans. All malignant lesions identified on the post-Gd scan were also identified on post-Gd-post-Mn scans. Although the potential benefit for increasing detection sensitivity for hepatic metastases was not demonstrated, this is a preliminary series. This study does demonstrate the practicality for use a single visit sequential Gd-Mn protocol described here, with possible application of this technique for further assessment of the utility of combining Gd and Mn for detection of liver metastases.  相似文献

Scaling left ventricular (LV) mass and other cardiac dimensions to account for individual body size is important. The traditional method of simple ratio scaling using, for example, body surface area (BSA) assumes a linear and proportional relationship and accurate measurement of both LV mass and BSA. These assumptions can be questioned; hence, we examined the appropriateness of methods and different indices using highly accurate magnetic resonance imaging scans. Cardiac and whole-body scans were performed in 172 young, healthy, male subjects (age range, 17-28 years) to assess LV mass, volume, linear dimensions, lean body mass and fat mass. Height, body mass and BSA were determined anthropometrically. Relationships were examined for linearity and closeness of fit using log-log least-squares linear regression to determine the slope exponent b (where 1.0 indicates linearity). The relationship between LV mass and lean body mass (b=.90+/-.15; r(2)=.66) was linear and geometrically consistent. This was also the case for LV end-diastolic volume (b=.70), although the confidence intervals were broader (+/-0.32) and the r(2) (.31) smaller. The relationships between LV mass, volume and other variables were generally not linear or geometrically consistent. LV linear dimensions did not demonstrate any linear relationships, and in particular, those with BSA were extremely poor (r(2)=.02-.09). In summary, the traditional scaling of LV measurements to BSA does not remove the influence of body size and other techniques should be considered. Lean body mass was the most appropriate variable for simple indexing of LV mass. No body size variable had a linear and proportional relationship with LV linear dimensions, and the use of simple ratio scaling for these is seriously questioned.  相似文献

T2-weighted magnetic resonance (MR) images showing focal areas of low signal intensity involving the endometrium or endometrial cavity were analyzed retrospectively in 28 women. The causes of the hypointense foci were disclosed histologically in 25 patients and by follow-up MR examinations in the other 3. The low signal intensity foci were due to submucosal leiomyoma (11 patients), blood clot (7 patients), endometrial carcinoma (4 patients), early intrauterine pregnancy (3 patients), retained products of conception (2 patients), and endometrial hamartoma (1 patient). The correct diagnosis was made on the basis of MR findings alone in 9 of the 11 submucosal leiomyomas. MR findings were nonspecific in the remainder of the cases. The results indicate that, on MR images, hypointense foci within the endometrium or endometrial cavity can arise from a variety of causes. Often, a specific diagnosis is not possible, and correlation with clinical history is essential.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to assess ferromagnetism, heating, and artifacts for cervical fixation devices exposed to a 1.5 T MR system. Cervical fixation devices (three halos, one tong and two halo vests) were evaluated for compatibility with MR procedures. Ferromagnetism was determined using a previously described technique. Heating was evaluated by measuring temperatures at various positions on the cervical fixation devices while applied to a volunteer subject before and during the use of various pulse sequences, including an magnetization transfer contrast (MTC) sequence. Artifacts associated with routine clinical MR imaging of the cervical spine were qualitatively evaluated with the cervical fixation devices applied to a volunteer subject. None of the devices displayed attraction to the magnetic field. The temperature changes were ±1.5°C in each instance. The MTC pulse sequence produced a sensation of “heating” the skull pins that may have been caused by vibration of the cervical fixation device. The MR images of the cervical spine were obtained without apparent artifacts using each routine, clinical pulse sequence. The lack of ferromagnetism, negligible heating, and capability of obtaining diagnostically acceptable studies of the cervical spine indicate that MR imaging performed at 1.5 T or less may be conducted safely in patients with each of the cervical fixation devices tested using conventional pulse sequences.  相似文献

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The stage at which normal appearing white matter (NAWM) abnormalities first appear in multiple sclerosis (MS) is not clear. The aim of our study was to monitor water diffusion changes over time in NAWM of patients with early MS.METHODS: Out of a consecutive series of patients enrolled in a MR study on clinically isolated syndrome (CIS), we selected 19 subjects who had completed a one year follow-up. The MR scans obtained at baseline and at 12 months were reviewed according to the new criteria on the diagnosis of MS. Lesion load on T2 and T1 weighted images and the trace of the apparent diffusion coefficient in NAWM were measured both at baseline and at 12 months in patients and in 12 healthy controls.RESULTS: In three patients the diagnosis of MS was done at baseline based on MR. Thirteen patients developed MS during the study and in three patients the diagnosis remained "possible MS." TADC in NAWM in patients was significantly higher than in controls at the 12 months' follow-up but not at baseline (controls mean tADC +/- sd = 0.745 +/- 0.02 mm(2)/sec x 10(-3); patients mean tADC(12) +/- sd = 0.767 +/- 0.02 mm(2)/sec x 10(-3); p < 0.02). TADC and T2 lesion load at 12 months were significantly correlated (p < 0.01). Patients exhibiting tADC(12) above a confidence interval had a significantly greater EDSS score at the same time period (EDSS(12) +/- sd = 1.9 +/- 0.5 and = 1.1 +/- 0.4 respectively; p < 0.01).CONCLUSIONS: This study suggests that diffusion MR cannot detect alterations in NAWM of patients with a CIS suggestive of MS. After one year, when most patients develop MS, diffusion MR abnormalities in NAWM become apparent. These abnormalities are correlated with T2 lesion load and may contribute to neurological impairment.  相似文献

An anxiety reduction protocol was developed and evaluated for routine use with neurology and neuropsychiatry patients undergoing brain or spinal scans. Thirty five patients underwent standard procedures, with limited information given in advance. Twenty nine experimental patients received a booklet giving information about the scanning procedure and advice on cognitive strategies for anxiety reduction, a tape-recorded demonstration of scanner noise, a visit to the control room before entering the scanner, a device to signal for adjustment of music volume, precise timings of each scan, and a clock visible during scanning. Anxiety was measured before, during, and after scanning, using subjective ratings and a retrospective version of the Spielberger State Anxiety Scale. There was no difference in anxiety between groups immediately prior to the scan and immediately after entering the scanner. Patients in the experimental group were significantly less anxious during the scan than control patients, as measured by mean anxiety ratings made during the imaging procedure and by retrospective State Anxiety scores completed immediately after leaving the scanner. The results show that scan-related anxiety can be reduced by introducing these simple changes to MR imaging procedures, with minimal cost, no special training of staff, and no disruption of the running of the MR Unit.  相似文献
