The semantic constructions and results for definite programs do not extend when dealing with negation. The main problem is related to a well-known problem in the area of algebraic specification: if we fix a constraint domain as a given model, its free extension by means of a set of Horn clauses defining a set of new predicates is semicomputable. However, if the language of the extension is richer than Horn clauses its free extension (if it exists) is not necessarily semicomputable. In this paper we present a framework that allows us to deal with these problems in a novel way. This framework is based on two main ideas: a reformulation of the notion of constraint domain and a functorial presentation of our semantics. In particular, the semantics of a logic program P is defined in terms of three functors: that apply to constraint domains and provide the operational, the least fixpoint and the logical semantics of P, respectively. To be more concrete, the idea is that the application of to a specific constraint solver provides the operational semantics of P that uses this solver; the application of to a specific domain provides the least fixpoint of P over this domain; and, the application of to a theory of constraints provides the logic theory associated to P. In this context, we prove that these three functors are in some sense equivalent.   相似文献

Birkhoff Completeness in Institutions   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We develop an abstract proof calculus for logics whose sentences are ‘Horn sentences’ of the form: and prove an institutional generalization of Birkhoff completeness theorem. This result is then applied to the particular cases of Horn clauses logic, the ‘Horn fragment’ of preorder algebras, order-sorted algebras and partial algebras and their infinitary variants. the restriction of a logic to Horn sentences  相似文献

This paper illustrates how the application of integer programming to logic can reveal parallels between logic and mathematics and lead to new algorithms for inference in knowledge-based systems. If logical clauses (stating that at least one of a set of literals is true) are written as inequalities, then the resolvent of two clauses corresponds to a certain cutting plane in integer programming. By properly enlarging the class of cutting planes to cover clauses that state that at least a specified number of literals are true, we obtain a generalization of resolution that involves both cancellation-type and circulant-type sums. We show its completeness by proving that it generates all prime implications, generalizing an early result by Quine. This leads to a cutting-plane algorithm as well as a generalized resolution algorithm for checking whether a set of propositions, perhaps representing a knowledge base, logically implies a given proposition. The paper is intended to be readable by persons with either an operations research or an artificial intelligence background. This report was prepared as part of the activities of the Management Sciences Research Group, Carnegie-Mellon University. In this paper, we study the temporal logic S4Dbr with two temporal operators “always” and “eventually.” An equivalent sequent calculus is presented with formulae as modal clauses or modal clauses starting with operator “always.” An upper bound of deduction tree is given for propositional logic. A theorem prover for propositional logic is written in SWI-Prolog. Published in LietuvosMatematikos Rinkinys, Vol. 46, No. 2, pp. 203–214, April–June, 2006.  相似文献

Letn > 2. A weakly representable relation algebra that is not strongly representable is constructed. It is proved that the set of all n by n basic matrices forms a cylindric basis that is also a weakly but not a strongly representable atom structure. This gives an example of a binary generated atomic representable cylindric algebra with no complete representation. An application to first order logic is given. (© 2008 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. In order to modelize the reasoning of intelligent agents represented by a poset T, H. Rasiowa introduced logic systems called “Approximation Logics”. In these systems the use of a set of constants constitutes a fundamental tool. We have introduced in [8] a logic system called without this kind of constants but limited to the case that T is a finite poset. We have proved a completeness result for this system w.r.t. an algebraic semantics. We introduce in this paper a Kripke‐style semantics for a subsystem of for which there existes a deduction theorem. The set of “possible worldsr is enriched by a family of functions indexed by the elements of T and satisfying some conditions. We prove a completeness result for system with respect to this Kripke semantics and define a finite Kripke structure that characterizes the propositional fragment of logic . We introduce a reational semantics (found by E. Orlowska) which has the advantage to allow an interpretation of the propositionnal logic using only binary relations. We treat also the computational complexity of the satisfiability problem of the propositional fragment of logic .  相似文献

We deal with Sylvan’s logic CCω. It is proved that this logic is a conservative extension of positive intuitionistic logic. Moreover, a paraconsistent extension of Sylvan’s logic is constructed, which is also a conservative extension of positive intuitionistic logic and has the property of being decidable. The constructed logic, in which negation is defined via a total accessibility relation, is a natural intuitionistic analog of the modal system S5. For this logic, an axiomatization is given and the completeness theorem is proved. Operation logic is a formal logic with well-defined formulas as semantic language clauses and with modus ponens rules as a method of reasoning. Operation logic can be implemented on any database management system (as the so-called OLS) having a universal general knowledge database and enabling understanding of data stored in the database. Semantic language clauses have necessary and sufficient properties for being able to describe any process in the world. Semantic language is the deepest level of any natural language, the level of data storing, understanding and reasoning. OLS can be a tool for studying implementation possibilities of human-like consciousness, for building artificial experts and artificial encyclopedias and for constructing semantic mathematical theories of anthropoecosystems (which is such an exact theory that qualitative information can be used with meaning completely defined by the user). In the paper the theory (and complete information enabling implementation) is presented for human-like understanding, topic-focus division of clauses, for human-like problem solving (program synthesis and verification) and for semantic mathematical analyses. Many examples are presented.  相似文献

It is proved that equations between arrows assumed for cartesian categories are maximal in the sense that extending them with any new equation in the language of free cartesian categories collapses a cartesian category into a preorder. An analogous result holds for categories with binary products, which may lack a terminal object. The proof is based on a coherence result for cartesian categories, which is related to model‐theoretic methods of normalization. This maximality of cartesian categories, which is analogous to Post completeness, shows that the usual equivalence between deductions in conjunctive logic induced by βη normalization in natural deduction is chosen optimally.  相似文献

The paper presents generalizations of results on so-called Horn logic, well-known in universal algebra, to the setting of fuzzy logic. The theories we consider consist of formulas which are implications between identities (equations) with premises weighted by truth degrees. We adopt Pavelka style: theories are fuzzy sets of formulas and we consider degrees of provability of formulas from theories. Our basic structure of truth degrees is a complete residuated lattice. We derive a Pavelka-style completeness theorem (degree of provability equals degree of truth) from which we get some particular cases by imposing restrictions on the formulas under consideration. As a particular case, we obtain completeness of fuzzy equational logic.  相似文献

We extend the concept of quasi‐variety of first‐order models from classical logic to multiple valued logic (MVL) and study the relationship between quasi‐varieties and existence of initial models in MVL. We define a concept of ‘Horn sentence’ in MVL and based upon our study of quasi‐varieties of MVL models we derive the existence of initial models for MVL ‘Horn theories’. © 2011 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. In this paper we deal with infinitary universal Horn logic both with and without equality. First, we obtain a relative Lyndon-style interpolation theorem. Using this result, we prove a non-standard preservation theorem which contains, as a particular case, a Lyndon-style theorem on surjective homomorphisms in its Makkai-style formulation. Another consequence of the preservation theorem is a theorem on bimorphisms, which, in particular, provides a tool for immediate obtaining characterizations of infinitary universal Horn classes without equality from those with equality. From the theorem on surjective homomorphisms we also derive a non-standard Beth-style preservation theorem that yields a non-standard Beth-style definability theorem, according to which implicit definability of a relation symbol in an infinitary universal Horn theory implies its explicit definability by a conjunction of atomic formulas. We also apply our theorem on surjective homomorphisms, theorem on bimorphisms and definability theorem to algebraic logic for general propositional logic.  相似文献

The paper deals with fuzzy Horn logic (FHL) which is a fragment of predicate fuzzy logic with evaluated syntax. Formulas of FHL are of the form of simple implications between identities. We show that one can have Pavelka‐style completeness of FHL w.r.t. semantics over the unit interval [0, 1] with (residuated lattices given by) left‐continuous t‐norm and a residuated implication, provided that only certain fuzzy sets of formulas are considered. The model classes of fuzzy structures of FHL are characterized by closure properties. We also give comments on related topics proposed by N. Weaver. (© 2006 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. The concept of Galois connection between power sets is generalized from the point of view of fuzzy logic. Studied is the case where the structure of truth values forms a complete residuated lattice. It is proved that fuzzy Galois connections are in one-to-one correspondence with binary fuzzy relations. A representation of fuzzy Galois connections by (classical) Galois connections is provided.  相似文献

Let c > 0 be a constant, and Φ be a random Horn formula with n variables and m = c · 2n clauses, chosen uniformly at random (with repetition) from the set of all nonempty Horn clauses in the given variables. By analyzing PUR, a natural implementation of positive unit resolution, we show that limn→∞ Pr(Φ is satisfiable) = 1 ? F(e?c), where F(x) = (1 ? x)(1 ? x2)(1 ? x4)(1 ? x8) …. Our method also yields as a byproduct an average‐case analysis of this algorithm. Published 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Random Struct. Alg., 20: 483–506, 2002  相似文献

There are several known Lindström-style characterization results for basic modal logic. This paper proves a generic Lindström theorem that covers any normal modal logic corresponding to a class of Kripke frames definable by a set of formulas called strict universal Horn formulas. The result is a generalization of a recent characterization of modal logic with the global modality. A negative result is also proved in an appendix showing that the result cannot be strengthened to cover every first-order elementary class of frames. This is shown by constructing an explicit counterexample.  相似文献

Based on a modification of Moss' and Parikh's topological modal language [8], we study a generalization of a weakly expressive fragment of a certain propositional modal logic of time. We define a bimodal logic comprising operators for knowledge and nexttime. These operators are interpreted in binary computation structures. We present an axiomatization of the set T of theorems valid for this class of semantical domains and prove – as the main result of this paper – its completeness. Moreover, the question of decidability of T is treated.  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce a foundation for computable model theory of rational Pavelka logic (an extension of ?ukasiewicz logic) and continuous logic, and prove effective versions of some related theorems in model theory. We show how to reduce continuous logic to rational Pavelka logic. We also define notions of computability and decidability of a model for logics with computable, but uncountable, set of truth values; we show that provability degree of a formula with respect to a linear theory is computable, and use this to carry out an effective Henkin construction. Therefore, for any effectively given consistent linear theory in continuous logic, we effectively produce its decidable model. This is the best possible, since we show that the computable model theory of continuous logic is an extension of computable model theory of classical logic. We conclude with noting that the unique separable model of a separably categorical and computably axiomatizable theory (such as that of a probability space or an Lp Banach lattice) is decidable.  相似文献

A variety of modal logics based on the relevant logic R are presented. Models are given for each of these logics and completeness is shown. It is also shown that each of these logics admits Ackermann's rule γ and as a corollary of this it is proved that each logic is a conservative extension of its counterpart based on classical logic, hence we call them “classically complete”. We look at the interplay between the projective Beth property in non-classical logics and interpolation. Previously, we proved that in positive logics as well as in superintuitionistic and modal ones, the projective Beth property PB2 follows from Craig's interpolation property and implies the restricted interpolation property IPR. Here, we show that IPR and PB2 are equivalent in positive logics, and also in extensions of the superintuitionistic logic KC and of the modal logic Grz.2.
