We investigated the effects of montmorillonite (clay) on the crystallization kinetics of syndiotactic polystyrene (sPS) with isothermal differential scanning calorimetry analyses. The clay was dispersed into the sPS matrix via melt blending on a scale of 1–2 nm or up to about 100 nm, depending on the surfactant treatment. For a crystallization temperature of 240 °C, the isothermal crystallization data were fitted well with the Avrami crystallization equation. Crystallization data on the kinetic parameters (i.e., the crystallization rate constant, Avrami exponent, clay content, and clay/surfactant cation‐exchange ratio) were also investigated. Experimental results indicated that the crystallization rate constant of the sPS nanocomposite increased with increasing clay content. The clay played a vital role in facilitating the formation on the thermodynamically more favorable all‐β‐form crystal when the sPS was melt‐crystallized. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The relative amounts of the α and the γ crystalline forms of nylon 6 obtained from the melt under different crystallization conditions have been studied by an x-ray diffraction procedure by comparison with a calibration curve obtained from the diffraction of standard samples. The weight fraction of the α form decreases with increasing crystallization temperature and that of the γ form increases. Growth of the α form is predominant in crystallization at 100°C and of the α form at 200°C. The amount of the α form tends to increase on annealing at 200°C for specimens crystallized at any temperature.  相似文献

Poly (lactic acid)/elastomer blends were prepared via direct injection molding. In non-isothermal crystallization scan, the crystallinity of PLA increased with a decrease in the heating and cooling rate. The melt crystallization of PLA appeared in the low cooling rate (1, 5 and 7.5°C/min). The presence of elastomer tended also to increase the crystallinity of PLA. However, it started to decrease in 30% of elastomer. It was also showed by the decreasing of cold crystallization activation energy. Elastomer also gave plasticization effect in PLA properties. Thermal treatment through annealing completed after 1 h at 80 °C. In isothermal crystallization scan, the cold crystallization rate increased with increasing crystallization temperature in the blends. The Avrami analysis showed that at low temperatures, the cold crystallization had two regime processes whereas at high temperature only one stage was observed.  相似文献

The effect of introducing silver nanoparticles on the rheological properties and dynamic crystallization behavior of nylon‐6 was investigated. The nanocomposites showed slightly higher viscosity than pure nylon‐6 in the low‐frequency range even at an extremely low loading level of the silver particles (0.5–1.0 wt %). The nanoparticles had a more noticeable effect on the storage modulus than on the loss modulus of a nylon‐6 melt and reduced its loss tangent. They increased the crystallization temperature of nylon‐6 by about 14 °C and produced a sharper crystalline peak. The silver nanoparticles promoted the crystallization of nylon‐6, and their effect on the dynamic crystallization of nylon‐6 at 200 °C was more notable at a lower shear rate and at 190 °C at a higher frequency. Nylon‐6 produced large spherulitic crystals, but the nanocomposites showed a grainy structure. In addition, the silver nanoparticles reduced the fraction of the α‐form crystal but increased that of the γ‐form crystal. The nanocomposites crystallized at 190 °C showed a lower melting temperature than nylon‐6 by about 3 °C, whereas the nanocomposites crystallized at 200 °C showed almost the same melting temperature. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The nonisothermal cold crystallization behavior of intercalated polylactide (PLA)/clay nanocomposites (PLACNs) was studied using differential scanning calorimetry, polarized optical microscope, X‐ray diffractometer, dynamic mechanical thermal analysis, and Fourier transform infrared spectrometer. The results show that both the cold crystallization temperature (Tcc) and melting point (Tm) of PLA matrix decreases monotonously with increasing of clay loadings, accompanied by the decreasing degree of crystallinity (Xc%) at the low heating rates (≤5 °C/min). However, the Xc% of PLACNs presents a remarkable increase at the high heating rate of 10 °C/min in contrast to that of neat PLA. The crystallization kinetics was then analyzed by the Avrami, Jezioney, Ozawa, Mo, Kissinger and Lauritzen–Hoffman kinetic models. It can be concluded that at the low heating rate, the cold crystallization of both the neat PLA and nanocomposites proceeds by regime III kinetics. The nucleation effect of clay promote the crystallization to some extent, while the impeding effect of clay results in the decrease of crystallization rate with increasing of clay loadings. At the high heating rate of 10 °C/min, crystallization proceeds mainly by regime II kinetics. Thus, the formation of much more incomplete crystals in the PLACNs with high clay loadings due to the dominant multiple nucleations mechanism in regime II, may have primary contribution to the lower crystallization kinetics, also as a result to the higher degree of crystallinity and lower melting point in contrast to that of neat PLA. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(3,3-diethyl oxetane) fractions (number-average molecular weights from 10,000 to 800,000) have been isothermally crystallized from the relaxed melt state in the temperature range 10–65°C; two crystalline modifications are formed, orthorhombic in the range 10–25°C and monoclonic in the range 45–65°C. The influences of molecular weight and undercooling on the crystallization kinetics have been analyzed. The crystallization temperature-coefficient was determined; a variation of the product of the interfacial energies was found in the range of molecular weights which has been examined. Comparison of the experimental results for this polymer with those reported for other polyoxetanes shows that the crystallization rate for a given undercooling is lower for PDEO than for PDMO and PTO and that the interfacial basal free energies decrease from polyoxetane to the 3,3-dialkyl oxetanes.  相似文献

PLA and its nanocomposite films based on modified montmorillonite (CLO30B) or fluorohectorite (SOM MEE) and unmodified sepiolite (SEPS9) were processed at a clay loading of 5 wt% and hydrolytically degraded at 37 and 58 °C in a pH 7.0 phosphate-buffered solution. An effective hydrolytic degradation for neat PLA and nanocomposites was obtained at both temperatures of degradation, with higher extent at 58 °C due to more extensive micro-structural changes and molecular rearrangements, allowing a higher water absorption into the polymer matrix. The addition of CLO30B and SEPS9 delayed the degradation of PLA at 37 °C due to their inducing PLA crystallization effect and/or to their high water uptake reducing the amount of water available for polymer matrix hydrolysis. The presence of SOM MEE also induced polymer crystallization, but it was also found to catalyze hydrolysis of PLA. Concerning hydrolysis at 58 °C, the presence of any nanoparticle did not significantly affect the degradation trend of PLA, achieving similar molecular weight decreases for all the studied materials. This was related to the easy access of water molecules to the bulk material at this temperature, minimizing the effect of polymer crystallinity clay nature and aspect ratio on the polymer degradation.  相似文献

The poly(lactic acid) (PLA)/montmorillonite (MMT) composites were prepared by melt blending in an internal mixer. The effect of MMT and organically modified MMT (OMMT) addition on crystallization and mechanical preferences has been studied. The DSC results show that the crystallization ability of PLA is improved by MMT or OMMT. The addition of MMT and OMMT increase the crystallinity of PLA from 27.3 to 32.8%, and the cold crystallization temperature (TCC) of PLA decreases from 93.1 to 88.9°C with the MMT. However, the nucleating effect of MMT is better than that of OMMT due to the velvety surface resulted from the organic modification. The average size of the spherulites in PLA/MMT is smaller than that in PLA/OMMT. The addition of MMT or OMMT increases the tensile strength of PLA from 29.6 to 34.7 MPa and decrease the elongation at break of PLA. The modulus of PLA composites is enhanced rapidly from 338 to 660 MPa by the addition of MMT.  相似文献

The preparation and characterization of melt‐intercalated poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF)/clay nanocomposites are reported. Organophilic clay (clay treated with dimethyl dihydrogenated tallow quaternary ammonium chloride) was used for the nanocomposite preparation. The composites were characterized with X‐ray diffraction (XRD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). XRD results indicated the intercalation of the polymer in the interlayer spacing. The incorporation of clay in PVDF resulted in the β form of PVDF. DSC nonisothermal curves showed an increase in the melting and crystallization temperatures along with a decrease in crystallinity. Isothermal crystallization studies show an enhanced rate of crystallization with the addition of clay. DMA indicated significant improvements in the storage modulus over a temperature range of ?100 to 150 °C. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys 41: 31–38, 2003  相似文献

The influence of the order of polymer melt on the subsequent crystallization and melting has been carefully studied. The experimental data show that the order of isotactic polypropylene (iPP) melt decreases with increases in the fusion temperature. For an iPP sample isothermally crystallized at 130 °C for half an hour, the degree of order of melt is higher when the fusion temperature is lower than about 170.5 °C, hence the lamellae formed in a rapid cooling process are perfect. If the fusion temperature is not higher than 167 °C, some thicker lamellae can exist in the melt. The melting of these unmelted lamellae and those lamellae recrystallized in the cooling process result in double endotherms. On the other hand, when the fusion temperature is higher than 170.5 °C, the order of the iPP melt decreases greatly; thus, the lamellae formed in the following cooling process are imperfect. At a lower heating rate, the recrystallization or reorganization of these imperfect lamellae also leads to double melting endotherms. Received: June 16, 2000 Accepted: October 16, 2000  相似文献

In this study, nanocomposite poly(lactic acid) and poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PLA/PBAT) blends were prepared through polymer blending in the presence of multi-functional epoxy as a compatibilizer that could react with epoxy group and terminated end group of two phases to increase interfacial adhesion between PLA and PBAT and improve the toughness of PLA. The effects of porous clay heterostructure from mixed CTAB:CTAC surfactant in the mole ratio of 1:2 (B1C2-PCH) were also investigated. The elongation at break of the blends reached 38%, which was eight times that of neat PLA. The cryo-fractured surface demonstrated the interfacial adhesion caused by the interaction of the epoxy group of the reactive compatibilizer with the terminal carboxyl and hydroxyl groups of PLA and PBAT. Moreover, PBAT reduced the crystallization rate and percent crystallinity of the PLA matrix and further decreased when compatibilizer was used. Alternatively, B1C2-PCH accelerated the heterogeneous nucleation and crystallization of the nanocomposite films. After adding small amount of B1C2-PCH, the nanocomposite films demonstrated excellent dielectric properties. Therefore, the improvement of PLA/PBAT nanocomposite blends are capable to be further developed as polymeric capacitor films.  相似文献

This article describes the structural evolution of clay in poly(butylene terephthalate) nanocomposites (PCNs) with clay loadings lower than the percolation threshold during the isothermal crystallization process. The study of the structure and rheological properties has revealed that the intercalation and detachment levels of clay are enhanced in samples crystallized at a high temperature (210 °C), in contrast to those of the original PCN, and this results in the formation of a rheological percolation network. However, for PCNs crystallized at a low temperature (190 °C), the further structural evolution of the tactoids is very small. All the experimental results indicate that the morphologies of clay can further evolve during the crystallization process, but the evolution level is strongly dependent on the crystallization temperature. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This article reports the nonisothermal crystallization behavior of MXD6 and its clay nanocomposite system (MXD6/MMT) using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The DSC experimental data were analyzed by theoretical modeling of the crystallization kinetics using the Avrami, Ozawa, Jeziorny, and the combined Avrami–Ozawa semiempirical models. It has been determined that these models adequately described the crystallization behavior of the MXD6 nanocomposite at cooling rates below 20 °C/min, but there was a deviation from linear dependence at higher cooling rates. This was attributed to changes of both the free energy and the cooling crystallization function K(T) over the entire crystallization process, as well as possible relaxation effects leading to structural rearrangements. In addition, the activation energy determined using the differential isoconversional method of Friedman was also found to vary, indicating changes in both the free energy and crystallization mechanism. Despite the lack of a reliable theoretical model, the heterogeneous nucleating activity of the MMT nanoparticles was demonstrated and quantified using Dobreva's method (? = 0.71), and the crystallization rate for the nanocomposite system was found to be greater than pure MXD6 by up to 79% at 40 °C/min. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Droplet experiments have been performed on polybutene-1. It was found that this polymer can be cooled to room temperature without homogeneous nucleation of crystallization. It was also found that when the polymer was heterogeneously nucleated, form I (as well as form II) could be crystallized directly from the melt. The melting point of droplets crystallized in form I near room temperature decreased with increasing crystallization temperature, while the melting point of the droplets crystallized in form I at the highest temperatures increased with increasing crystallization temperature. There was a broad minimum at about 60°C. in the melting point versus crystallization temperature curve.  相似文献

Two melting peaks are generally observed in a heating scan for isothermally crystallized poly(lactic acid) (PLA)/carbon black (CB) and PLA/modified carbon black (MCB) composites. To investigate the origin of the above double melting behavior, the melting behavior after isothermal crystallization was analyzed with differential scanning calorimetry, wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction, and small angel X‐ray scattering techniques. The double melting of the crystallized samples can be explained by the model of two populations of lamellae, the double peaks of low and high temperatures are contributed to the melting of the small lamellae produced by secondary crystallization and that of the major crystals formed in the primary crystallization process, respectively. Spherulitic growth rates of the neat PLA and PLA/MCB composite were analyzed and the occurrence of a regime transition was demonstrated. For the PLA, a clear regime transition was observed at around 125 °C. For the PLA/MCB, it occurred at 130 °C. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The preparation and properties of poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF)/clay nanocomposites are reported for the first time. PVDF/clay nanocomposites were prepared by melt intercalation with organophilic clay. The composites were characterized with X‐ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry, and dynamic mechanical analysis. X‐ray diffraction results indicated intercalation of the polymer into the interlayer spacing. PVDF in the nanocomposites crystallized in the β form. Differential scanning calorimetry nonisothermal curves showed an increase in the melting and crystallization temperatures along with a decrease in crystallinity, as evidenced by the melting and crystallization peaks. Isothermal crystallization studies showed an enhanced rate of crystallization with the addition of clay, as evidenced by a reduction in the crystallization time. Dynamic mechanical analysis indicated significant improvements in the storage modulus over a temperature range of ?100 to 150 °C. Poly(lactic acid) (PLA) is an emerging material mainly because it can be synthesized from renewable resources and is thus environmentally and ecologically safe. The mechanical properties, above all the thermal resistance of PLA are determined by the crystalline content: the heat deflection temperature of crystalline PLA can reach 100 °C, whereas amorphous PLA loses mechanical properties at temperatures slightly higher than 60 °C. However, PLA has a low crystallization rate, so that after processing it remains mostly amorphous. This characteristic heavily limits the use of PLA for commercial applications. Many studies have been recently published on the crystallization kinetics of PLA. The effect of processing on this feature is however often neglected. In this work, the significance of processing on the crystallization kinetics of a commercial PLA was investigated. Two processing methods were explored: extrusion and injection moulding. The obtained materials, and the starting pellets of virgin polymer, were analyzed by calorimetry in order to obtain the crystallization kinetics. Two protocols were adopted to determine the crystallization rates during cooling from the melt or heating from the solid. The parameters of a kinetic equation were determined for all the materials and protocols adopted and it was thus possible to describe the evolution of crystallinity during heating and during cooling.  相似文献

The effect of tetramethylenedicarboxylic dibenzoylhydrazide (designated here as TMC) on the nonisothermal and isothermal crystallization behavior of PLA was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), polarized optical microscopy (POM) and wide angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD). TMC shows excellent nucleating effect on PLA. With the addition of 0.05 wt% TMC, the crystallization half-time of PLA decreases from 26.06 to 6.13 min at 130 °C. The isothermal crystallization data were further analyzed by the Avrami model. The values of the Avrami exponent of the blends are comparable to that of neat PLA, indicating that the presence of TMC does not change the crystallization mechanism of the matrix. The observation from POM and WAXD measurements showed that the presence of TMC increases significantly the nuclei density of PLA but has no discernible effect on its crystalline structure.  相似文献

The melting behavior of isotactic polystyrene, crystallized from the melt and from dilute solutions in trans-decalin, has been studied by differential scanning calorimetry and solubility measurements. The melting curves show 1, 2, or 3 melting endotherms. At large supercooling, crystallization from the melt produces a small melting endotherm just above the crystallization temperature Tc. This peak originates from secondary crystallization of melt trapped within the spherulites. The next melting endotherm is related to the normal primary crystallization process. Its peak temperature increases linearly with Tc, yielding an extrapolated value for the equilibrium melting temperature Tc° of 242 ± 1°C as found before. By self-seeding, crystallization from the melt could be performed at much higher temperature to obtain melting temperatures as high as 243°C, giving rise to doubt about the value of Tc° found by extrapolation. For normal values of Tc and heating rate, an extra endotherm appears on the melting curve. Its peak temperature is the same for both melt-crystallized and solution-crystallized samples, and independent of Tc, but rises with decreasing heating rate. From the effects of heating rate and partial scanning on the ratio of peak areas and of previous heat treatment on dissolution temperature, it is concluded that this peak arises from the second one by continuous melting and recrystallization during the scan.  相似文献
