We show that the complexity of the Specht module corresponding to any hook partition is the p-weight of the partition. We calculate the variety and the complexity of the signed permutation modules. Let E s be a representative of the conjugacy class containing an elementary abelian p-subgroup of a symmetric group generated by s disjoint p-cycles. We give formulae for the generic Jordan types of signed permutation modules restricted to E s and of Specht modules corresponding to hook partitions μ restricted to E s where s is the p-weight of μ.   相似文献

During the 2004–2005 academic year the VIGRE Algebra Research Group at the University of Georgia (UGA VIGRE) computed the complexities of certain Specht modules S λ for the symmetric group Σ d , using the computer algebra program Magma. The complexity of an indecomposable module does not exceed the p-rank of the defect group of its block. The UGA VIGRE Algebra Group conjectured that, generically, the complexity of a Specht module attains this maximal value; that it is smaller precisely when the Young diagram of λ is built out of p×p blocks. We prove one direction of this conjecture by showing these Specht modules do indeed have less than maximal complexity. It turns out that this class of partitions, which has not previously appeared in the literature, arises naturally as the solution to a question about the p-weight of partitions and branching.  相似文献

Two theorems about the vertices of indecomposable Specht modules for the symmetric group, defined over a field of prime characteristic p, are proved: 1. The indecomposable Specht module $S^\lambda$ has non-trivial cyclic vertex if and only if $\lambda$ has p-weight 1. 2. If p does not divide n and $S^{(n-r, 1^r)}$ is indecomposable then its vertex is a p-Sylow subgroup of $S_{n-r-1} \times S_r$.Received: 15 August 2002  相似文献

Let (Ω,A,μ) be a probability space, K the scalar field R of real numbers or C of complex numbers, and (S,X) a random normed space over K with base (ω,A,μ). Denote the support of (S,X) by E, namely E is the essential supremum of the set {AA: there exists an element p in S such that X p (ω) > 0 for almost all ω in A}. In this paper, Banach-Alaoglu theorem in a random normed space is first established as follows: The random closed unit ball S *(1) = {fS *: X * f ⩽ 1} of the random conjugate space (S *,X *) of (S,X) is compact under the random weak star topology on (S *,X *) iff EA=: {EA | AA} is essentially purely μ-atomic (namely, there exists a disjoint family {A n : nN} of at most countably many μ-atoms from EA such that E = ∪ n=1 A n and for each element F in EA, there is an H in the σ-algebra generated by {A n : nN} satisfying μ(FΔH) = 0), whose proof forces us to provide a key topological skill, and thus is much more involved than the corresponding classical case. Further, Banach-Bourbaki-Kakutani-Šmulian (briefly, BBKS) theorem in a complete random normed module is established as follows: If (S,X) is a complete random normed module, then the random closed unit ball S(1) = {pS: X p ⩽ 1} of (S,X) is compact under the random weak topology on (S,X) iff both (S,X) is random reflexive and EA is essentially purely μ-atomic. Our recent work shows that the famous classical James theorem still holds for an arbitrary complete random normed module, namely a complete random normed module is random reflexive iff the random norm of an arbitrary almost surely bounded random linear functional on it is attainable on its random closed unit ball, but this paper shows that the classical Banach-Alaoglu theorem and BBKS theorem do not hold universally for complete random normed modules unless they possess extremely simple stratification structure, namely their supports are essentially purely μ-atomic. Combining the James theorem and BBKS theorem in complete random normed modules leads directly to an interesting phenomenum: there exist many famous classical propositions that are mutually equivalent in the case of Banach spaces, some of which remain to be mutually equivalent in the context of arbitrary complete random normed modules, whereas the other of which are no longer equivalent to another in the context of arbitrary complete random normed modules unless the random normed modules in question possess extremely simple stratification structure. Such a phenomenum is, for the first time, discovered in the course of the development of random metric theory.  相似文献

We shall present a method to get trivial source modules easily just by looking at values of ordinary characters at non-identity p-elements in finite groups instead of doing huge calculation. The method is only for a case where defect groups are cyclic. Nevertheless, it works well at least when we want to prove Broué’s abelian defect group conjecture for blocks which have elementary abelian defect groups of order p 2.  相似文献

In this paper we study the vertices of indecomposable Specht modules for symmetric groups. For any given indecomposable non-projective Specht module, the main theorem of the article describes a p-subgroup contained in its vertex. The theorem generalizes and improves an earlier result due to Wildon in [13].  相似文献

For any abelian group G and integer t ≥ 2 we determine precisely the smallest possible size of a non-t-rectifiable subset of G. Specifically, assuming that G is not torsion-free, denote by p the smallest order of a non-zero element of G. We show that if a subset SG satisfies |S| ≤ ⌌log t p⌍, then S is t-isomorphic (in the sense of Freiman) to a set of integers; on the other hand, we present an example of a subset SG with |S| = ⌌log t p⌍ + 1 which is not t-isomorphic to a set of integers.  相似文献

This paper is motivated by the question whether there is a nice structure theory of finitely generated modules over the Iwasawa algebra, i.e. the completed group algebra, Λ of a p-adic analytic group G. For G without any p-torsion element we prove that Λ is an Auslander regular ring. This result enables us to give a good definition of the notion of a pseudo-nullΛ-module. This is classical when G=ℤ k p for some integer k≥1, but was previously unknown in the non-commutative case. Then the category of Λ-modules up to pseudo-isomorphisms is studied and we obtain a weak structure theorem for the ℤ p -torsion part of a finitely generated Λ-module. We also prove a local duality theorem and a version of Auslander-Buchsbaum equality. The arithmetic applications to the Iwasawa theory of abelian varieties are published elsewhere. Rouquier blocks
This paper investigates the Rouquier blocks of the Hecke algebras of the symmetric groups and the Rouquier blocks of the q-Schur algebras. We first give an algorithm for computing the decomposition numbers of these blocks in the ``abelian defect group case' and then use this algorithm to explicitly compute the decomposition numbers in a Rouquier block. For fields of characteristic zero, or when q=1 these results are known; significantly, our results also hold for fields of positive characteristic with q≠1. We also discuss the Rouquier blocks in the ``non–abelian defect group' case. Finally, we apply these results to show that certain Specht modules are irreducible.  相似文献

Let G be a 3-connected graph of order n and S a subset of vertices. Denote by δ(S) the minimum degree (in G) of vertices of S. Then we prove that the circumference of G is at least min{|S|, 2δ(S)} if the degree sum of any four independent vertices of S is at least n+6. A cycle C is called S-maximum if there is no cycle C with |C S|>|CS|. We also show that if ∑4 i=1 d(a i)≥n+3+|⋂4 i=1 N(a i)| for any four independent vertices a 1, a 2, a 3, a 4 in S, then G has an S-weak-dominating S-maximum cycle C, i.e. an S-maximum cycle such that every component in GC contains at most one vertex in S. Diperfect graphs
Gallai and Milgram have shown that the vertices of a directed graph, with stability number α(G), can be covered by exactly α(G) disjoint paths. However, the various proofs of this result do not imply the existence of a maximum stable setS and of a partition of the vertex-set into paths μ1, μ2, ..., μk such tht |μiS|=1 for alli. Later, Gallai proved that in a directed graph, the maximum number of vertices in a path is at least equal to the chromatic number; here again, we do not know if there exists an optimal coloring (S 1,S 2, ...,S k) and a path μ such that |μ ∩S i|=1 for alli. In this paper we show that many directed graphs, like the perfect graphs, have stronger properties: for every maximal stable setS there exists a partition of the vertex set into paths which meet the stable set in only one point. Also: for every optimal coloring there exists a path which meets each color class in only one point. This suggests several conjecties similar to the perfect graph conjecture. Optimal order error estimates in H 1, for the Q 1 isoparametric interpolation were obtained in Acosta and Durán (SIAM J Numer Anal37, 18–36, 1999) for a very general class of degenerate convex quadrilateral elements. In this work we show that the same conlusions are valid in W 1,p for 1≤ p < 3 and we give a counterexample for the case p ≥ 3, showing that the result cannot be generalized for more regular functions. Despite this fact, we show that optimal order error estimates are valid for any p ≥ 1, keeping the interior angles of the element bounded away from 0 and π, independently of the aspect ratio. We also show that the restriction on the maximum angle is sharp for p ≥ 3.  相似文献

If dμ is the Fourier transform of a smooth measure dμ on the hypersphere Sn−1 (n≥2) then there exists a constant C dependent only on n such that ⋎dμ(y)⋎≤C(1+⋎y⋎)−(n−1)/2 for all y∈Rn. In this paper, we show that the above statement is false for non-smooth measures. And we present the corresponding estimations for the Fourier transforms of certain non-smooth measures on Sn−1. We consider one–factorizations of complete graphs which possess an automorphism group fixing k ≥ 0 vertices and acting regularly (i.e., sharply transitively) on the others. Since the cases k = 0 and k = 1 are well known in literature, we study the case k≥ 2 in some detail. We prove that both k and the order of the group are even and the group necessarily contains k − 1 involutions. Constructions for some classes of groups are given. In particular we extend the result of [7]: let G be an abelian group of even order and with k − 1 involutions, a one–factorization of a complete graph admitting G as an automorphism group fixing k vertices and acting regularly on the others can be constructed.  相似文献

LetS be an algebraic surface of general type. If the canonical system |K S | ofS is a pencil of genusg, we hope to find the largestc(g) such thatK S 2 ≥c(g)p g +constant. We have known thatc(3)≤6. In this paper, we proved thatc(3)≥5.25.  相似文献

The family of Young modules which are periodic has been determined in Hemmer and Nakano (J Algebra 254:422–440, 2002). We determine the period of all periodic Young modules in all characteristics. In particular, the period is dependent only on the characteristic. We calculate minimal projective resolutions of periodic Young modules in weight one blocks and in the principal block of S2p{\mathcal {S}_{2p}} when p ≥ 3.  相似文献

The author and Nakano recently proved that multiplicities in a Specht filtration of a symmetric group module are well-defined precisely when the characteristic is at least five. This result suggested the possibility of a symmetric group theory analogous to that of good filtrations and tilting modules for GL n (k). This article is an initial attempt at such a theory. We obtain two sufficient conditions that ensure a module has a Specht filtration, and a formula for the filtration multiplicities. We then study the categories of modules that satisfy the conditions, in the process obtaining a new result on Specht module cohomology.

Next we consider symmetric group modules that have both Specht and dual Specht filtrations. Unlike tilting modules for GL n (k), these modules need not be self-dual, and there is no nice tensor product theorem. We prove a correspondence between indecomposable self-dual modules with Specht filtrations and a collection of GL n (k)-modules which behave like tilting modules under the tilting functor. We give some evidence that indecomposable self-dual symmetric group modules with Specht filtrations may be indecomposable self dual trivial source modules.  相似文献

Let F be a free Lie algebra of rank n ≥ 2 and A be a free abelian Lie algebra of rank m ≥ 2. We prove that the test rank of the abelian product F ×A is m. Morever we compute the test rank of the algebra F/gk( F) F/\gamma _{k}\left( F\right) ^{^{\prime }}.  相似文献

Let S be a hypersurface in \BbbR3{\Bbb{R}}^{3} which is the graph of a smooth, finite type function φ, and let μ=ρ be a surface carried measure on S, where denotes the surface element on S and ρ a smooth density with sufficiently small support. We derive uniform estimates for the Fourier transform [^(m)]\hat{\mu} of μ, which are sharp except for the case where the principal face of the Newton polyhedron of φ, when expressed in adapted coordinates, is unbounded. As an application, we prove a sharp L p -L 2 Fourier restriction theorem for S in the case where the original coordinates are adapted to φ. This improves on earlier joint work with M. Kempe.  相似文献

Explicit inversion formulas are obtained for the hemispherical transform(FΜ)(x) = Μ{y ∃S n :x. y ≥ 0},xS n, whereS n is thendimensional unit sphere in ℝn+1,n ≥ 2, and Μ is a finite Borel measure onS n. If Μ is absolutely continuous with respect to Lebesgue measuredy onS n, i.e.,dΜ(y) =f(y)dy, we write(F f)(x) = ∫ x.y> 0 f(y)dy and consider the following cases: (a)fC (Sn); (b)f ∃ Lp(S n), 1 ≤ p < ∞; and (c)fC(Sn). In the case (a), our inversion formulas involve a certain polynomial of the Laplace-Beltrami operator. In the remaining cases, the relevant wavelet transforms are employed. The range ofF is characterized and the action in the scale of Sobolev spacesL p γ (Sn) is studied. For zonalf ∃ L1(S 2), the hemispherical transformF f was inverted explicitly by P. Funk (1916); we reproduce his argument in higher dimensions.
