A new, versatile chloride-anion-templating synthetic pathway is exploited for the preparation of a series of eight new [2]rotaxane host molecules, including the first sulfonamide interlocked system. (1)H NMR spectroscopic titration investigations demonstrate the rotaxanes' capability to selectively recognise the chloride anion in competitive aqueous solvent media. The interlocked host's halide binding affinity can be further enhanced and tuned through the attachment of electron-withdrawing substituents and by increasing its positive charge. A dicationic rotaxane selectively binds chloride in 35% water, wherein no evidence of oxoanion binding is observed. NMR spectroscopy, X-ray structural analysis and computational molecular dynamics simulations are used to account for rotaxane formation yields, anion binding strengths and selectivity trends.  相似文献

Bistable [2]rotaxanes have been attached through a bulky tripodal linker to the surface of titanium dioxide nanoparticles and studied by cyclic voltammetry and spectroelectrochemical methods. The axle component in the [2]rotaxane contains two viologen sites, V1 and V2, interconnected by a rigid terphenylene bridge. In their parent dication states, V12+ and V22+ can both accommodate a crown ether ring, C, but are not equivalent in terms of their affinity towards C and have different electrochemical reduction potentials. The geometry and size of the tripodal linker help to maintain a perpendicular [2]rotaxane orientation at the surface and to avoid unwanted side‐to‐side interactions. When the rigid [2]rotaxane or its corresponding axle are adsorbed on a TiO2 nanoparticle, viologen V22+ is reduced at significantly more negative potentials (?0.3 V) than in flexible analogues that contain aliphatic bridges between V1 and V2. These overpotentials are analysed in terms of electron‐transfer rates and a donor–bridge–acceptor (D–B–A) formalism, in which D is the doubly reduced viologen, V10, adjacent to the TiO2 surface (TiO2–V10), B is the terphenylene bridge and A is viologen V22+. We have also found that, in contrast with earlier findings in solution, no molecular shuttling occurs in rigid [2]rotaxane adsorbed at the surface. The observations were explained by the relative position of the viologen stations within the electrical double layer, screening of V22+ by the counterions and high capacity of the medium, which reduces the mobility of the crown ether. The results are useful in transposing of solution‐based molecular switches to the interface or in the design and understanding of the properties of systems comprising electroactive and/or interlocked molecules adsorbed at the nanostructured TiO2 surface.  相似文献

A rotaxane‐based Au catalyst was developed and the effect of the mechanical bond on its behavior was studied. Unlike the non‐interlocked thread, the rotaxane requires a catalytically innocent cofactor, the identity of which significantly influences both the yield and diastereoselectivity of the reaction. Under optimized conditions, AuI (the catalyst), AgI (to abstract the Cl? ligand), and CuI (the cofactor) combine to produce a catalyst with excellent activity and selectivity.  相似文献

Imine‐bridged rotaxanes are a new type of rotaxane in which the axle and macrocyclic ring are connected by imine bonds. We have previously reported that in imine‐bridged rotaxane 5 , the shuttling motion of the macrocycle could be controlled by changing the temperature. In this study, we investigated how the axle and macrocycle structures affect the construction of the imine‐bridged rotaxane as well as the dynamic equilibrium between imine‐bridged rotaxane 5 and [2]rotaxane 7 by using various combinations of axles ( 1 A , B ), macrocycles ( 2 a – e ), and side‐stations (XYL and TEG). In the threading process, the flexibility of the macrocycle and the substituent groups at the para position of the aniline moieties affect the preparation of the threaded imines. The size of the imine‐bridging station and the macrocyclic tether affects the hydrolysis of the imine bonds under acidic conditions.  相似文献

Hierarchical self‐assembly of building blocks over multiple length scales is ubiquitous in living organisms. Microtubules are one of the principal cellular components formed by hierarchical self‐assembly of nanometer‐sized tubulin heterodimers into protofilaments, which then associate to form micron‐length‐scale, multi‐stranded tubes. This peculiar biological process is now mimicked with a fully synthetic molecule, which forms a 1:1 host‐guest complex with cucurbit[7]uril as a globular building block, and then polymerizes into linear poly‐pseudorotaxanes that associate laterally with each other in a self‐shape‐complementary manner to form a tubular structure with a length over tens of micrometers. Molecular dynamic simulations suggest that the tubular assembly consists of eight poly‐pseudorotaxanes that wind together to form a 4.5 nm wide multi‐stranded tubule.  相似文献

The conversion of binuclear complexes into larger molecular necklaces can be achieved through rigidifying flexible ligands by threading them through a crown ether to form either an interpenetrated [2]pseudorotaxane or a permanently interlocked [2]rotaxane. The resulting complexes and assemblies are characterized by 1H and DOSY NMR in solution and single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction in the solid‐state.  相似文献

Artificial molecular machines can be operated using either physical or chemical inputs. Light‐powered motors display clean and autonomous operations, whereas chemically driven machines generate waste products and are intermittent in their motions. Herein, we show that controlled changes in applied electrochemical potentials can drive the operation of artificial molecular pumps in a semi‐autonomous manner—that is, without the need for consecutive additions of chemical fuel(s). The electroanalytical approach described in this Communication promotes the assembly of cyclobis(paraquat‐p‐phenylene) rings along a positively charged oligomeric chain, providing easy access to the formation of multiple mechanical bonds by means of a controlled supply of electricity.  相似文献

Selective monofunctionalization of substrates with distant, yet equally reactive functional groups is difficult to achieve, as it requires the second functional group to selectively modulate its reactivity once the first functional group has reacted. We now show that mechanically interlocked catalytic rings can effectively regulate the reactivity of stoppering groups in rotaxanes over a distance of about 2 nm. Our mechanism of communication is enabled by a unique interlocked design, which effectively removes the catalytic rings from the substrates by fast dethreading as soon as the first reaction has taken place. Our method not only led to a rare example of selective monofunctionalization, but also to a “molecular if function”. Overall, the study presents a way to get distant functional groups to communicate with each other in a reaction-history-dependent manner by creating linkers that can ultimately perform logical operations at the molecular level.  相似文献

Mixtures of N‐alkyl pyridinium compounds [py‐N‐(CH2)nOC6H3‐3,5‐(OMe)2]+(X?) ( 1b Cl: n=10, X=Cl; 1c Br: n=12, X=Br) and α‐cyclodextrin (α‐CD) form supramolecular hydrogels in aqueous media. The concentrations of the two components influences the sol–gel transition temperature, which ranges from 7 to 67 °C. Washing the hydrogel with acetone or evaporation of water left the xerogel, and 13C CP/MAS NMR measurements, powder X‐ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed that the xerogel of 1b Cl (or 1c Br) and α‐CD was composed of pseudorotaxanes with high crystallinity. 13C{1H} and 1H NMR spectra of the gel revealed the detailed composition of the components. The gel from 1b Cl and α‐CD contains the corresponding [2]‐ and [3]pseudorotaxanes, [ 1b? (α‐CD)]Br and [ 1b? (α‐CD)2]Br, while that from 1c Br and α‐CD consists mainly of [3]pseudorotaxane [ 1c? (α‐CD)2]Br. 2D ROESY 1H NMR measurements suggested intermolecular contact of 3,5‐dimethoxyphenyl and pyridyl end groups of the axle component. The presence of the [3]pseudorotaxane is indispensable for gel formation. Thus, intermolecular interaction between the end groups of the axle component and that between α‐CDs of the [3]pseudorotaxane contribute to formation of the network. The supramolecular gels were transformed into sols by adding denaturing agents such as urea, C6H3‐1,3,5‐(OH)3, and [py‐NnBu]+(Cl?).  相似文献

Macromolecular [2]rotaxanes comprising a polymer axle and crown ether wheel were synthesized to evaluate the effect of component mobility on the properties of the axle polymer, especially its crystallinity. Living ring‐opening polymerization of δvalerolactone with a pseudorotaxane initiator with a hydroxy group at the axle terminus was followed by end‐capping with a bulky isocyanate. This yielded macromolecular [2]rotaxanes (M2Rs) possessing polyester axles of varying molecular weights. The crystallinity of the axle polymers of two series of M2Rs, with either fixed and movable components, was evaluated by differential scanning calorimetry. The results revealed that the effect of component mobility was significant in the fixed and movable M2Rs with a certain axle length, thus suggesting that the properties of the axle polymer depend on the mobility of the polyrotaxane components.  相似文献

Two Janus [2]rotaxanes, 5a and 5b , with α‐cyclodextrin (α‐CD) derivatives substituted on the 6‐position with two recognition sites (azobenzene and heptamethylene (C7)) that were linked with linkers of different lengths (oligo(ethylene glycol) with a degree of polymerization equal to 2 or approximately 21) were synthesized and characterized. 2D ROESY NMR spectroscopy and circular dichroism (cd) spectra demonstrated that the recognition site of the α‐CD moiety was switched by photoisomerization of the azobenzene moiety in 5a and 5b . The different size changes of 5a and 5b in hydrodynamic radius (RH) owing to the different length of linker between two recognition sites were observed by pulse‐field‐gradient spin‐echo NMR spectroscopy. The kinetic results indicated that the different length of linker had no or a weak effect for the photoisomerization process of 5a and 5b .  相似文献

The photothermal effect is the generation of heat by molecules or particles upon high‐energy laser irradiation, and near‐infrared absorbers such as gold nanoparticles and organic dyes have a range of potential photothermal applications. The favourable photothermal properties of thiophene‐functionalised croconaine dyes were recently discovered. The synthesis and properties of novel croconaine rotaxane and pseudorotaxane architectures capable of efficient photothermal performance in both organic and aqueous environments are reported. The versatility of this dye‐encapsulation strategy was demonstrated by the preparation of two organic croconaine rotaxanes using different synthetic methods: the formation of an aqueous pseudorotaxane association complex, and the synthesis of water‐soluble, croconaine‐doped silicated micelle nanoparticles. All of these near‐infrared‐absorbing systems exhibit excellent photothermal behaviour, with pseudorotaxane and rotaxane formation vital for effective aqueous heat generation. Dye encapsulation provides steric protection to enhance the stability of a water‐sensitive croconaine dye, while rotaxane‐doped nanoparticles avoid detrimental band broadening caused by chromophore coupling.  相似文献

High‐yield, straightforward synthesis of two‐ and three‐station [2]rotaxane molecular machines based on an anilinium, a triazolium, and a mono‐ or disubstituted pyridinium amide station is reported. In the case of the pH‐sensitive two‐station molecular machines, large‐amplitude movement of the macrocycle occurred. However, the presence of an intermediate third station led, after deprotonation of the anilinium station, and depending on the substitution of the pyridinium amide, either to exclusive localization of the macrocycle around the triazolium station or to oscillatory shuttling of the macrocycle between the triazolium and monosubstituted pyridinium amide station. Variable‐temperature 1H NMR investigation of the oscillating system was performed in CD2Cl2. The exchange between the two stations proved to be fast on the NMR timescale for all considered temperatures (298–193 K). Interestingly, decreasing the temperature displaced the equilibrium between the two translational isomers until a unique location of the macrocycle around the monosubstituted pyridinium amide station was reached. Thermodynamic constants K were evaluated at each temperature: the thermodynamic parameters ΔH and ΔS were extracted from a Van′t Hoff plot, and provided the Gibbs energy ΔG. Arrhenius and Eyring plots afforded kinetic parameters, namely, energies of activation Ea, enthalpies of activation ΔH, and entropies of activation ΔS. The ΔG values deduced from kinetic parameters match very well with the ΔG values determined from thermodynamic parameters. In addition, whereas signal coalescence of pyridinium hydrogen atoms located next to the amide bond was observed at 205 K in the oscillating rotaxane and at 203 K in the two‐station rotaxane with a unique location of the macrocycle around the pyridinium amide, no separation of 1H NMR signals of the considered hydrogen atoms was seen in the corresponding nonencapsulated thread. It is suggested that the macrocycle acts as a molecular brake for the rotation of the pyridinium–amide bond when it interacts by hydrogen bonding with both the amide NH and the pyridinium hydrogen atoms at the same time.  相似文献

Fréchet‐type dendrons (G0–G3) were added as both axle stoppering units and cyclic wheel appendages in a series of [2]rotaxanes, [3]rotaxanes, and molecular shuttles that employ 1,2‐bis(pyridinium)ethane axles and 24‐membered crown ethers wheels. The addition of dendrimer wedges as stoppering units dramatically increased the solubility of simple [2]rotaxanes in nonpolar solvents. The X‐ray structure of a G1‐stoppered [2]rotaxane shows how the dendritic units affect the structure of the interlocked components. Increased solubility allows observation of how the interaction of dendritic units on separate components in interlocked molecules influences switching properties and molecular size. In a series of [2]rotaxane molecular shuttles incorporating two recognition sites, it was demonstrated that an increase in generation on either the stoppering unit or cyclic wheel could influence both the rate of shuttling and the site preference of the wheel on the axle.  相似文献

A CoII/porphyrinate‐based macrocycle in the presence of a 3,5‐diphenylpyridine axial ligand functions as an endotopic ligand to direct the assembly of [2]rotaxanes from diazo and styrene half‐threads, by radical‐carbene‐transfer reactions, in excellent 95 % yield. The method reported herein applies the active‐metal‐template strategy to include radical‐type activation of ligands by the metal‐template ion during the organometallic process which ultimately yields the mechanical bond. A careful quantitative analysis of the product distribution afforded from the rotaxane self‐assembly reaction shows that the CoII/porphyrinate subunit is still active after formation of the mechanical bond and, upon coordination of an additional diazo half‐thread derivative, promotes a novel intercomponent C?H insertion reaction to yield a new rotaxane‐like species. This unexpected intercomponent C?H insertion illustrates the distinct reactivity brought to the CoII/porphyrinate catalyst by the mechanical bond.  相似文献
