One-pot, three-component condensation of 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde derivatives, primary amines with alkyl isocyanides to N-alkyl-2-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-2-imino-acetamides

One-pot, three-component condensation of 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde derivatives, primary amines with alkyl isocyanides is reported. N-alkyl-2-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-2-iminoacetamide derivatives are generated presumably via the preliminary formation of N, N′-disubstituted benzo[b]furan-2,3-diamines and subsequent oxidation with molecular oxygen.      

Synthesis,characterization and antifungal testing of 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-(thio)ones containing boronic acids and boronate esters

The addition of formylphenylboronic acid derivatives to thiourea and ethyl acetoacetate proceeds in the presence of an additional Lewis acid catalyst to give the corresponding 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-(thio)ones (Biginelli products) in moderate yield. Compounds were tested for antifungal activity against pure cultures of Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavus, Candida albicans and Saccharomyces cerevisiae but, unfortunately, none showed any appreciable activity.      

Ugi products containing boronate esters

The Ugi reaction with formylphenylboronic acid derivatives as the carbonyl component proceeds to give the corresponding boron-containing dipeptide derivatives (Ugi products) in good yields.      

The binary system PbO - BiVO4

Phase equilibria established in the PbO - BiVO₄ system over the whole component concentration range up to 1000°C have been investigated. A phase diagram has been constructed using DTA and XRD.      

Synthesis and isomerism of hydrazones of 2-(5-thioxo-4,5-dihydro-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-ylthio)acetohydrazide

New hydrazones of 2-(5-thioxo-4,5-dihydro-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-ylthio)acetohydrazide have been obtained and the percentages of anti/syn - conformers were determined. Based on the analyses of ¹H NMR spectra, it was concluded that for hydrazones obtained from the 2- hydroxybenzaldehydes and 2’-hydroxycetophenones the ratio between the anti-and syn-conformers depends on the strength of intramolecular hydrogen bond (IMHB) between the nitrogen atom of the imino group and the proton of the 2-hydroxy group. It was shown that increase in IMHB strength results in stabilization of the anti-conformer in solution.      

Calorimetric study of melts in the System KF - K<Subscript>2</Subscript>NbF<Subscript>7</Subscript>

The relative enthalpies of melts in the system KF - K₂NbF₇ were measured by drop-calorimetry at the temperatures 1058, 1140 and 1208 K as a function of composition. Heat capacities of melted mixtures and enthalpies of mixing were determined using the experimental data. The molar heat capacity of melts diverges slightly from additivity. The molar enthalpy of mixing of melts shows small negative deviation from ideality which decreases with decreasing temperature. The thermal effect at mixing was assigned predominantly to association reactions producing more complex fluoroniobate anions.      

Physicochemical characteristics of 2-, 3- and 4-methylpyridinium tetrachloroferrates(III)

The crystal structure of 2-methylpyridinium tetrachloroferrate(III) was determined. The iron cation is tetracoordinated by chloride anions, and it adopts a slightly distorted tetrahedral coordination with three angles smaller, two almost equal and one larger than the tetrahedral. The compound is isostructural with its 3-, and 4-methylpyridinium analogues. The thermal properties of 2-, 3- and 4-methylpyridinium tetrachloroferrates(III) have been studied using TG and DSC techniques. The compounds exhibit a high stability in the melt.      

Ionic liquid promoted synthesis of bis(indolyl) methanes

1-benzyl-3-methyl imidazolium hydrogen sulphate [bnmim][HSO₄] was found to be an effective catalyst for the condensation reaction of indoles and derivatives with benzaldehydes in microwave irradiation with lower reaction time and higher yields to give bis(indolyl) methanes.      

Novel organic material with potential NLO application - electronic and spectroscopic properties

Novel dicyanoisophorone derivative, (E)-2-(3-(4-aminostyryl)-5,5-dimethylcyclohex-2-enylidene)malononitrile, is synthesized and its structure elucidated by means of conventional and linear polarized IR-spectroscopy of oriented colloids in nematic host, ¹H, ¹³C, ¹H, ¹H-COSY NMR, HPLC tandem ESI MS-MS spectrometry, UV-VIS and thermal methods. Ab initio and DFT level of theory are used to theoretically obtain the electronic structure and optical properties, both in ground and exited state, of the compound.      

Synthesis and structure of new 3,7,10-substituted-phenothiazine derivatives

The synthesis of new 3,7-dibromophenothiazine derivatives bearing bromoalkyl, mercaptoalkyl and alkylthioacetate groups on the N atom at position 10 is reported. The Suzuki coupling reaction of one of these derivatives via the bromine atoms at positions 3 and 7 with bromothiophene derivatives is also discussed.      

Solid-state linear polarized IR-spectroscopy of croconic and rhodizonic acids

The applications of linear-polarized IR-spectroscopy to oriented colloid suspensions in a nematic host are demonstrated with croconic and rhodizonic acids. The experimental IR vibrational assignments of the solid-state of both neutral compounds are presented. Assignments are supported by theoretical quantum chemical calculations and vibrational analysis at the DFT level of theoretical approximation with the 6-311++G^** basis set.      

Synthesis of Xenbucin using Suzuki reaction catalyzed by Pd/C in water

Xenbucin 1, an analgesic drug, was synthesized in 4 steps using two different routes. The biaryl fragment could successfully be produced via a Pd/C catalysed Suzuki coupling in water using sodium tetraphenylborate as a phenylation reagent. Overall yields of the routes were 36% and 59%, respectively.      

Efficient synthesis of diarylidene octahydroacridines by one-pot multi-component tandem reactions

A one-pot multi-component reaction is developed for the efficient synthesis of 4,5-dibenzylidene octahydroacridines in high yields. The reaction is performed by the tandem reaction of three molar equivalent aromatic aldehydes with two molar equivalent 4-alkylcyclohexanone in the system of NH₄OAc/HOAc under microwave irradiation.      

Can N-heterocyclic germylenes behave as Lewis acids - is there another side to Meller germylenes?

N-Heterocyclic germylenes are known to exist in two structurally different forms, the planar Meller germylenes and the monoimino germylenes that feature an envelope structure. This essay reviews recent reports dealing with radical and cationic Meller type germylenes featuring the monoimino germylene structure, discusses their transformations and relationships, and asks the question whether indeed N-heterocyclic germylenes can be turned into Lewis acids.      

Ionic liquids - deanol derivatives as the Diels-Alder reaction solvents

The Diels-Alder reaction between cyclopentadiene and dienophiles in deanol derivatives containing bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide anion as media have been studied. The effect of the substituents attached to the cation on the endo:exo selectivity as well as the reaction yield have been evaluated in the absence and presence of Lewis acid catalyst - Y(OTf)₃. Catalytic activity of metal triflates and the recycling of chosen catalytic systems have also been investigated      

QSAR modeling for lipid peroxidation inhibition potential of flavonoids using topological and structural parameters

In the present study, Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationship (QSAR) modeling has been carried out for lipid peroxidation (LPO)-inhibition potential of a set of 27 flavonoids, using structural and topological parameters. For the development of models, three methods were used: (1) stepwise regression, (2) factor analysis followed by multiple linear regressions (FA-MLR) and (3) partial least squares (PLS) analysis. The best equation was obtained from stepwise regression analysis (Q² = 0.626) considering the leave-oneout prediction statistics.      

2-pyrrolidone - capped Mn<Subscript>3</Subscript>O<Subscript>4</Subscript> nanocrystals

Water-soluble Mn₃O₄ nanocrystals have been prepared through thermal decomposition in a high temperature boiling solvent, 2-pyrrolidone. The final product was characterized with XRD, SEM, TEM, FTIR and Zeta Potential measurements. Average crystallite size was calculated as ∼15 nm using XRD peak broadening. TEM analysis revealed spherical nanoparticles with an average diameter of 14±0.4 nm. FTIR analysis indicated that 2-pyrrolidone coordinates with the Mn₃O₄ nanocrystals only via O from the carbonyl group, thus confining their growth and protecting their surfaces from interaction with neighboring particles.      

Palladium(0)-catalyzed amination of allylic natural terpenic functionalized olefins

The palladium(0) catalyzed amination of allylic acetates and carbonates derivatives from terpenic olefins was carried out under mild conditions. The reaction offers a very good method for the preparation of allylic amines and thus to provide a useful entry to new functionalized terpenic olefin products. The mechanism involving a formation of p-allyl-palladium intermediate complex is in good agreement with the results obtained with the optically active substrates, as well as via an analysis of the observed regio-and stereoselectivity.      

<Emphasis Type="Italic">N</Emphasis>-Alkylation of benzimidazoles with ketonic Mannich bases and the reduction of the resulting 1-(3-oxopropyl)benzimidazoles

Benzimidazole, benzimidazoles diversely substituted at position 2, and 5,6-dimethylbenzimidazole have been alkylated at N ¹ with ketonic Mannich bases derived from acetophenones, acetylnaphthalenes, 2-acetylthiophene and 1-tetralone to afford a series of novel 1-(3-oxopropyl)benzimidazoles. The reduction of these transamination products with NaBH₄ in methanol produced the corresponding 1-(3-hydroxypropyl)benzimidazoles in excellent yields.
