The detailed reaction dynamics of CH(3)I photodissociation at 304 nm were studied by using high-resolution long time-delayed core-sampling photofragment translation spectroscopy. The vibrational state distributions of the photofragment, i.e., CH(3), are directly resolved due to the high kinetic resolution of this experiment for the first time. CH(3) radicals produced from I((3)Q(0+)), I((1)Q(1) <--( 3)Q(0+)), and I((3)Q(1)) channels are populated in different vibrational state distributions. The I((3)Q(0+)) and I((3)Q(1)) channels show only progressions in the nu2'(a2") umbrella bending mode, and the I((1)Q(1) <-- (3)Q(0+)) channel shows both progression in the nu2' umbrella bending mode and a small amount of excitation in the nu1'(a1') C-H stretching mode. The photodissociation processes from the vibrational hot band of CH(3)I (upsilon3 = 1, upsilon3 = 2) were also detected, primarily because of the absorption probability from the vibrational excited states, i.e., hot bands are relatively enhanced. Photofragments from the hot bands of CH(3)I show a cold vibrational distribution compared to that from the vibrational ground state of CH(3)I. The I* quantum yield and the curve crossing possibility were also studied for the ground vibrational state of CH(3)I. The potential energy at the curve crossing point was calculated to be 32 790 cm(-1) by using the one-dimensional Landau-Zener model.  相似文献

Singlet and triplet free energy surfaces for the reactions of C atom ((3)P and (1)D) with CH(2)O are studied computationally to evaluate the excited singlet ((1)B(1)) methylene formation from deoxygenation of CH(2)O by C ((1)D) atom as suggested by Shevlin et al. Carbon atoms can react by addition to the oxygen lone pair or to the C=O double bond on both the triplet and singlet surfaces. Triplet C ((3)P) atoms will deoxygenate to give CO plus CH(2) ((3)B(1)) as the major products, while singlet C ((1)D) reactions will form ketene and CO plus CH(2) ((1)A(1)). No definitive evidence of the formation of excited singlet ((1)B(1)) methylene was found on the singlet free energy surface. A conical intersection between the (1)A' and (1)A' ' surfaces located near an exit channel may play a role in product formation. The suggested (1)B(1) state of methylene may form via the (1)A' ' surface only if dynamic effects are important. In an effort to interpret experimental observation of products trapped by (Z)-2-butene, formation of cis- and trans-1,2-dimethylcyclopropane is studied computationally. The results suggests that "hot" ketene may react with (Z)-2-butene nonstereospecifically.  相似文献

The time-resolved photodissociation dynamics of CH(3)I in the A-band has been studied theoretically using a wave packet model including four degrees of freedom, namely the C-I dissociation coordinate, the I-CH(3) bending mode, the CH(3) umbrella mode, and the C-H symmetric stretch mode. Clocking times and final product state distributions of the different dissociation (nonadiabatic) channels yielding spin-orbit ground and excited states of the I fragment and vibrationless and vibrationally excited (symmetric stretch ν(1) and umbrella ν(2) modes) CH(3) fragments have been obtained and compared with the results of femtosecond velocity map imaging experiments. The wave packet calculations are able to reproduce with very good agreement the experimental reaction times for the CH(3)(ν(1), ν(2))+I*((2)P(1/2)) dissociation channels with ν(1) = 0 and ν(2) = 0,1,2, and also for the channel CH(3)(ν(1) = 0, ν(2) = 0)+I((2)P(3/2)). However, the model fails to predict the experimental clocking times for the CH(3)(ν(1), ν(2))+I((2)P(3/2)) channels with (ν(1), ν(2)) = (0, 1), (0, 2), and (1, 0), that is, when the CH(3) fragment produced along with spin-orbit ground state I atoms is vibrationally excited. These results are similar to those previously obtained with a three-dimensional wave packet model, whose validity is discussed in the light of the results of the four-dimensional treatment. Possible explanations for the disagreements found between theory and experiment are also discussed.  相似文献

ICl photolysis in the ultraviolet region of the spectrum (235-265 nm) is studied using the Slice Imaging technique. The Cl?((2)P(1/2))/Cl((2)P(3/2)) and the I?((2)P(1/2))/I((2)P(3/2)) branching ratio between the I((2)P(3/2)) + Cl((2)P(3/2))∕Cl?((2)P(1/2)) and I?((2)P(1/2)) + Cl((2)P(3∕/2))∕Cl?((2)P(1/2)) channels is extracted from the respective iodine and chlorine photofragment images. We find that ground state chlorine atoms (Cl((2)P(3/2))) are formed nearly exclusively with excited state iodine atoms (I?((2)P(1/2))), while excited spin-orbit chlorine atoms (Cl?((2)P(1/2))) are concurrently produced only with ground state iodine atoms (I((2)P(3/2))). We conclude that photolysis of ICl in this UV region is a relatively "clean" source of spin-orbit excited chlorine atoms that can be used in crossed molecular beam experiments.  相似文献

The photodissociation dynamics of allyl chloride at 235 nm producing atomic Cl((2)P(J);J=1/2,3/2) fragments is investigated using a two-dimensional photofragment velocity ion imaging technique. Detection of the Cl((2)P(1/2)) and Cl((2)P(3/2)) products by [2+1] resonance enhanced multiphoton ionization shows that primary C-Cl bond fission of allyl chloride generates 66.8% Cl((2)P(3/2)) and 33.2% Cl((2)P(1/2)). The Cl((2)P(3/2)) fragments evidenced a bimodal translational energy distribution with a relative weight of low kinetic energy Cl((2)P(3/2))/high kinetic energy Cl((2)P(3/2)) of 0.097/0.903. The minor dissociation channel for C-Cl bond fission, producing low kinetic energy chlorine atoms, formed only chlorine atoms in the Cl((2)P(3/2)) spin-orbit state. The dominant C-Cl bond fission channel, attributed to an electronic predissociation that results in high kinetic energy Cl atoms, produced both Cl((2)P(1/2)) and Cl((2)P(3/2)) atomic fragments. The relative branching for this dissociation channel is Cl((2)P(1/2))/[Cl((2)P(1/2))+Cl((2)P(3/2))]=35.5%. The average fraction of available energy imparted into product recoil for the high kinetic energy products was found to be 59%, in qualitative agreement with that predicted by a rigid radical impulsive model. Both the spin-orbit ground and excited chlorine atom angular distributions were close to isotropic. We compare the observed Cl((2)P(1/2))/[Cl((2)P(1/2))+Cl((2)P(3/2))] ratio produced in the electronic predissociation channel of allyl chloride with a prior study of the chlorine atom spin-orbit states produced from HCl photodissociation, concluding that angular momentum recoupling in the exit channel at long interatomic distance determines the chlorine atom spin-orbit branching.  相似文献

The photodissociation of CH(3)I in the blue edge (217-230 nm) of the A-band has been studied using a combination of slice imaging and resonance enhanced multiphoton ionization (REMPI) detection of the CH(3) fragment in the vibrational ground state (ν = 0). The profiles of the CH(3) (ν = 0) kinetic energy distributions and the photofragment anisotropies are interpreted in terms of the contribution of the excited surfaces involved in the photodissociation process, as well as the probability of non-adiabatic curve crossing between the (3)Q(0) and (1)Q(1) states. In the studied region, unlike in the central part of the A-band where absorption to the (3)Q(0) state dominates, the I((2)P(J)), with J = 1/2, 3/2, in correlation with CH(3) (ν = 0) kinetic energy distributions show clearly two contributions of different anisotropy, signature of the competing adiabatic and non-adiabatic dynamics, whose ratio strongly depends on the photolysis wavelength. The experimental results are compared with multisurface wave packet calculations carried out using the available ab initio potential energy surfaces, transition moments, and non-adiabatic couplings, employing a reduced dimensionality model. A good qualitative agreement is found between experiment and theory and both show evidence of reverse (3)Q(0)←(1)Q(1) non-adiabatic dynamics at the bluest excitation wavelengths both in the fragment kinetic energy and angular distributions.

Multireference spin-orbit configuration interaction calculations have been carried out for the valence and low-lying Rydberg states of CH(3)I. Potential energy surfaces along the C-I dissociation coordinate (minimal energy paths with respect to the umbrella angle) have been obtained as well as transition moments for excitation of the Rydberg states. It is shown that the B and C absorption bands of CH(3)I are dominated by the perpendicular (3)R(1),(1)R?(E)←X??A(1) transitions, while the (3)R(2)(E),?(3)R(0(+) )(A(1))←X??A(1) transitions are very weak. It is demonstrated that the bound Rydberg states of the B and C bands are predissociated due to the interaction with the repulsive E and A(2) components of the (3)A(1) state, with the (3)A(1)(E) state being the main decay channel. It is predicted that the only possibility to obtain the I((2)P(3/2)) ground state atoms from the CH(3)I photodissociation in the B band is by interaction of the (3)R(1)(E) state with the repulsive (1)Q(E) valence state at excitation energies above 55,000 cm(-1). The calculated ab initio data are used to analyze the influence of the Rydberg state vibrational excitation on the decay process. It is shown that, in contrast to intuition, excitation of the ν(3) C-I stretching mode supresses the predissociation, whereas the ν(6) rocking vibration enhances the predissociation rate.  相似文献

Nonadiabatic dynamics in the title reaction have been investigated by 2+1 REMPI detection of the Cl(2P(3/2)) and Cl*(2P(1/2)) products. Reaction was initiated by photodissociation of CH(3)I at 266 nm within a single expansion of a dilute mixture of CH(3)I and HCl in argon, giving a mean collision energy of 7800 cm(-1) in the center-of-mass frame. Significant production of Cl* was observed, with careful checks made to ensure that no additional photochemical or inelastic scattering sources of Cl* perturbed the measurements. The fraction of the total yield of Cl(2P(J)) atoms formed in the J=1/2 level at this collision energy was 0.150+/-0.024, and must arise from nonadiabatic dynamics because the ground potential energy surface correlates to CH(4)+Cl(2P(3/2)) products.  相似文献

We report 355 nm photodissociation studies of molecular bromine (Br2) trapped in solid parahydrogen (pH2) and orthodeuterium (oD2). The product Br atoms are observed via the spin-orbit transition ((2)P(1/2)<-- (2)P(3/2)) of atomic bromine. The quantum yield (Phi) for Br atom photoproduction is measured to be 0.29(3) in pH2 and 0.24(2) in oD2, demonstrating that both quantum solids have minimal cage effects for Br2 photodissociation. The effective Br spin-orbit splitting increases when the Br atom is solvated in solid pH2 (+1.1%) and oD2 (+1.5%); these increases are interpreted as evidence that the solvation energy of the Br ground fine structure state ((2)P(3/2)) is significantly greater than the excited state ((2)P(1/2)). Molecular bromine induced H2 infrared absorptions are detected in the Q1(0) and S1(0) regions near 4150 and 4486 cm(-1), respectively, which allow the relative Br2 concentration to be monitored as a function of 355 nm photolysis.  相似文献

The photodissociation of rotationally state-selected methyl bromide is studied in the wavelength region between 213 and 235 nm using slice imaging. A hexapole state selector is used to focus a single (JK=11) rotational quantum state of the parent molecule, and a high speed slice imaging detector measures directly the three-dimensional recoil distribution of the methyl fragment. Experiments were performed on both normal (CH(3)Br) and deuterated (CD(3)Br) parent molecules. The velocity distribution of the methyl fragment shows a rich structure, especially for the CD(3) photofragment, assigned to the formation of vibrationally excited methyl fragments in the nu(1) and nu(4) vibrational modes. The CH(3) fragment formed with ground state Br((2)P(3/2)) is observed to be rotationally more excited, by some 230-340 cm(-1), compared to the methyl fragment formed with spin-orbit excited Br((2)P(1/2)). Branching ratios and angular distributions are obtained for various methyl product states and they are observed to vary with photodissociation energy. The nonadiabatic transition probability for the (3)Q(0+)-->(1)Q(1) transition is calculated from the images and differences between the isotopes are observed. Comparison with previous non-state-selected experiments indicates an enhanced nonadiabatic transition probability for state-selected K=1 methyl bromide parent molecules. From the state-to-state photodissociation experiments the dissociationenergy for both isotopes was determined, D(0)(CH(3)Br)=23 400+/-133 cm(-1) and D(0)(CD(3)Br)=23 827+/-94 cm(-1).  相似文献

The photodissociation of CF(3)I at 304 nm has been studied using long time-delayed core-sampling photofragment translational spectroscopy. Due to its capability of detecting the kinetic energy distribution of iodine fragments with high resolution, it is able to directly assign the vibrational state distribution of CF(3) fragments. The vibrational state distributions of CF(3) fragments in the I(*)((2)P(12)) channel, i.e., (3)Q(0+) state, have a propensity of the nu(2) (') umbrella mode with a maximum distribution at the vibrational ground state. For the I((2)P(32)) channel, i.e., (1)Q(1)<--(3)Q(0+), the excitation of the nu(2) (') umbrella mode accounts for the majority of the vibrational excitation of the CF(3) fragments. The 1 nu(1) (') (symmetric CF stretch) +nnu(2) (') combination modes, which are associated with the major progression of the nu(2) (') umbrella mode, are observed for the photodissociation of CF(3)I at the I channel, i.e., (3)Q(1) state. The bond dissociation energy of the CI bond of CF(3)I is determined to be D(0)(CF(3)-I)相似文献

Femtosecond time-resolved velocity map imaging experiments are reported on several vibronic levels of the second absorption band (B-band) of CH(3)I, including vibrational excitation in the ν(2) and ν(3) modes of the bound (3)R(1)(E) Rydberg state. Specific predissociation lifetimes have been determined for the 2(0)(1) and 3(0)(1) vibronic levels from measurements of time-resolved I*((2)P(1/2)) and CH(3) fragment images, parent decay, and photoelectron images obtained through both resonant and non-resonant multiphoton ionization. The results are compared with our previously reported predissociation lifetime measurements for the band origin 0(0) (0) [Gitzinger et al., J. Chem. Phys. 132, 234313 (2010)]. The result, previously reported in the literature, where vibrational excitation to the C-I stretching mode (ν(3)) of the CH(3)I (3)R(1)(E) Rydberg state yields a predissociation lifetime about four times slower than that corresponding to the vibrationless state, whereas predissociation is twice faster if the vibrational excitation is to the umbrella mode (ν(2)), is confirmed in the present experiments. In addition to the specific vibrational state lifetimes, which were found to be 0.85 ± 0.04 ps and 4.34 ± 0.13 ps for the 2(0)(1) and 3(0)(1) vibronic levels, respectively, the time evolution of the fragment anisotropy and the vibrational activity of the CH(3) fragment are presented. Additional striking results found in the present work are the evidence of ground state I((2)P(3/2)) fragment production when excitation is produced specifically to the 3(0)(1) vibronic level, which is attributed to predissociation via the A-band (1)Q(1) potential energy surface, and the indication of a fast adiabatic photodissociation process through the repulsive A-band (3)A(1)(4E) state, after direct absorption to this state, competing with absorption to the 3(0)(1) vibronic level of the (3)R(1)(E) Rydberg state of the B-band.  相似文献

The UV photodissociation (<5 eV) of diiodomethane (CH(2)I(2)) is investigated by spin-orbit ab initio calculations. The experimentally observed photodissociation channels in the gas and condensed phases are clearly assigned by multi-state second-order multiconfigurational perturbation theory in conjunction with spin-orbit interaction through complete active space-state interaction potential energy curves. The calculated results indicate that the fast dissociations of the first two singlet states of CH(2)I(2) and CH(2)I--I lead to geminate-radical products, CH(2)I (.)+I((2)P(3/2)) or CH(2)I (.)+ I*((2)P(1/2)). The recombination process from CH(2)I--I to CH(2)I(2) is explained by an isomerization process and a secondary photodissociation reaction of CH(2)I--I. Finally, the study reveals that spin-orbits effects are significant in the quantitative analysis of the electronic spectrum of the CH(2)I--I species.  相似文献

The formation of high-n Rydberg atoms from the neutral dissociation of superexcited states of I(2) formed by resonant two-photon excitation of molecular iodine using an ArF laser has been investigated. The high-n Rydberg atoms I* are formed by predissociation of the optically excited molecular Rydberg states I*(2)[R(B (2)Sigma(g) (+))] converging on the I(2) (+)(B (2)Sigma(g) (+)) state of the ion. Measurement of the kinetic energy release of the Rydberg I* fragments allowed the identification of the asymptotic channels as I*[R((3)P(J))]+I((2)P(32)), where the I*[R((3)P(J))] are Rydberg atoms converging on the I(+)((3)P(J)) states of the ion with J=2, 1, and 0. In the case of the I*[R((3)P(2))] fragments, the average Rydberg lifetime is observed to be 325+/-25 micros. Based on experiments on the variation of the Rydberg atom signal with the field ionizing strength, the distribution of Rydberg levels peaks at about 25-50 cm(-1) below the ionization limit.  相似文献

The real time photodissociation dynamics of CH(3)I from the A band has been studied experimentally and theoretically. Femtosecond pump-probe experiments in combination with velocity map imaging have been carried out to measure the reaction times (clocking) of the different (nonadiabatic) channels of this photodissociation reaction yielding ground and spin-orbit excited states of the I fragment and vibrationless and vibrationally excited (symmetric stretch and umbrella modes) CH(3) fragments. The measured reaction times have been rationalized by means of a wave packet calculation on the available ab initio potential energy surfaces for the system using a reduced dimensionality model. A 40 fs delay time has been found experimentally between the channels yielding vibrationless CH(3)(nu=0) and I((2)P(32)) and I(*)((2)P(12)) that is well reproduced by the calculations. However, the observed reduction in delay time between the I and I(*) channels when the CH(3) fragment appears with one or two quanta of vibrational excitation in the umbrella mode is not well accounted for by the theoretical model.  相似文献

The time-slice velocity-map ion imaging and the resonant four-wave mixing techniques are combined to study the photodissociation of NO in the vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) region around 13.5 eV above the ionization potential. The neutral atoms, i.e., N((2)D(o)), O((3)P(2)), O((3)P(1)), O((3)P(0)), and O((1)D(2)), are probed by exciting an autoionization line of O((1)D(2)) or N((2)D(o)), or an intermediate Rydberg state of O((3)P(0,1,2)). Old and new autoionization lines of O((1)D(2)) and N((2)D(o)) in this region have been measured and newer frequencies are given for them. The photodissociation channels producing N((2)D(o)) + O((3)P), N((2)D(o)) + O((1)D(2)), N((2)D(o)) + O((1)S(0)), and N((2)P(o)) + O((3)P) have all been identified. This is the first time that a single VUV photon has been used to study the photodissociation of NO in this energy region. Our measurements of the angular distributions show that the recoil anisotropy parameters (β) for all the dissociation channels except for the N((2)D(o)) + O((1)S(0)) channel are minus at each of the wavelengths used in the present study. Thus direct excitation of NO by a single VUV photon in this energy region leads to excitation of states with Σ or Δ symmetry (ΔΩ = ±1), explaining the observed perpendicular transition.  相似文献

The photodissociation dynamics of CH(2)Br(2) was investigated near 234 and 267 nm. A two-dimensional photofragment ion velocity imaging technique coupled with a [2+1] resonance-enhanced multiphoton (REMPI) ionization scheme was utilized to obtain the angular and translational energy distributions of the nascent Br ((2)P(3/2)) and Br* ((2)P(1/2)) atoms. The obtained translational energy distributions of Br and Br* are found consist of two components which should be come from the radical channel and secondary dissociation process, respectively. It is suggested that the symmetry reduction from C(2v) to C(s) during photodissociation invokes a non-adiabatic coupling between the 2B(1) and A(1) states. Consequently, the higher internal energy distribution of Br channel than Br* formation channel and the broader translational energy distribution of the former are presumed correlate with a variety of vibrational excitation disposal at the crossing point resulting from the larger non-adiabatic crossing from 2B(1) to A(1) state than the reverse crossing. Moreover, the measured anisotropy parameter beta indicate that fragments recoil along the Br-Br direction mostly in the photodissociation.  相似文献

The photochemical activation of Al atoms in cryogenic matrices to induce their reaction with methane has been experimentally studied before. Here, a theoretical study of the nonadiabatic transition probabilities for the ground ((2)P:3s(2)3p(1)) and the lowest excited states ((2)S:3s(2)4s(1) and (2)D:3s(2)3d(1)) of an aluminum atom interacting with a methane molecule (CH(4)) was carried out through ab initio Hartree-Fock self-consistent field calculations. This was followed by a multiconfigurational study of the correlation energy obtained by extensive variational and perturbational configuration interaction analyses using the CIPSI program. The (2)D state is readily inserted into a C-H bond, this being a prelude to a sequence of avoided crossings with the initially repulsive (to CH(4)) lower lying states (2)P and (2)S. We then use a direct extension of the Landau-Zener theory to obtain transition probabilities at each avoided crossing, allowing the formation of an HAlCH(3) intermediate that eventually leads to the final pair of products H+AlCH(3) and HAl+CH(3).  相似文献
