For a positive integer N, we define the N-rank of a non singular integer d × d matrix A to be the maximum integer r such that there exists a minor of order r whose determinant is not divisible by N. Given a positive integer r, we study the growth of the minimum integer k, such that A k I has N-rank at most r, as a function of N. We show that this integer k goes to infinity faster than log N if and only if for every eigenvalue λ which is not a root of unity, the sum of the dimensions of the eigenspaces relative to eigenvalues which are multiplicatively dependent with λ and are not roots of unity, plus the dimensions of the eigenspaces relative to eigenvalues which are roots of unity, does not exceed dr − 1. This result will be applied to recover a recent theorem of Luca and Shparlinski [6] which states that the group of rational points of an ordinary elliptic curve E over a finite field with q n elements is almost cyclic, in a sense to be defined, when n goes to infinity. We will also extend this result to the product of two elliptic curves over a finite field and show that the orders of the groups of rational points of two non isogenous elliptic curves are almost coprime when n approaches infinity. Let λK m,n be a bipartite multigraph with two partite sets having m and n vertices, respectively. A P v-factorization of λK m,n is a set of edge-disjoint P v -factors of λK m,n which partition the set of edges of λK m,n. When v is an even number, Ushio, Wang and the second author of the paper gave a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of a P v -factorization of λK m,n. When v is an odd number, we proposed a conjecture. However, up to now we only know that the conjecture is true for v = 3. In this paper we will show that the conjecture is true when v = 4k − 1. That is, we shall prove that a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of a P 4k−1-factorization of λK m,n is (1) (2k − 1)m ⩽ 2kn, (2) (2k − 1)n ⩽ 2km, (3) m + n ≡ 0 (mod 4k − 1), (4) λ(4k − 1)mn/[2(2k − 1)(m + n)] is an integer.  相似文献

Let G be a k-connected simple graph with order n. The k-diameter, combining connectivity with diameter, of G is the minimum integer d k (G) for which between any two vertices in G there are at least k internally vertex-disjoint paths of length at most d k (G). For a fixed positive integer d, some conditions to insure d k (G)⩽d are given in this paper. In particular, if d⩾3 and the sum of degrees of any s (s=2 or 3) nonadjacent vertices is at least n+(s−1)k+1−d, then d k (G)⩽d. Furthermore, these conditions are sharp and the upper bound d of k-diameter is best possible. Supported by NNSF of China (19971086).  相似文献

A K1,k-factorization of λKm,n is a set of edge-disjoint K1,k-factors of λKm,n, which partition the set of edges of λKm,n. In this paper, it is proved that a sufficient condition for the existence of K1,k-factorization of λKm,n, whenever k is any positive integer, is that (1) m ≤ kn, (2) n ≤ km, (3) km-n = kn-m ≡ 0 (mod (k^2- 1)) and (4) λ(km-n)(kn-m) ≡ 0 (mod k(k- 1)(k^2 - 1)(m + n)).  相似文献

Let n be a nonzero integer. A set of m distinct positive integers is called a D(n)-m-tuple if the product of any two of them increased by n is a perfect square. Let k be a positive integer. In this paper, we show that if {k 2, k 2 + 1, 4k 2 + 1, d} is a D(−k 2)-quadruple, then d = 1, and that if {k 2 − 1, k 2, 4k 2 − 1, d} is a D(k 2)-quadruple, then d = 8k 2(2k 2 − 1).  相似文献

Let ƒ be a polynomial automorphism of ℂk of degree λ, whose rational extension to ℙk maps the hyperplane at infinity to a single point. Given any positive closed current S on ℙk of bidegree (1,1), we show that the sequence λ−nn)*S converges in the sense of currents on ℙk to a linear combination of the Green current T+ of ƒ and the current of integration along the hyperplane at infinity. We give an interpretation of the coefficients in terms of generalized Lelong numbers with respect to an invariant dynamical current for ƒ−1.  相似文献

Let M be a generic CR manifold in \BbbCm+d\Bbb{C}^{m+d} of codimension d, locally given as the common zero set of real-valued functions r 1,…,r d . Given an integer δ=1,…,d, we find a necessary and sufficient condition for M to contain a real submanifold of codimension δ with the same CR structure. We also find a necessary and sufficient condition and several sufficient conditions for M to admit a complex submanifold of complex dimension n, for any n=1,…,m. We use the method of prolongation of an exterior differential system. The conditions are systems of partial differential equations on r 1,…,r d of third order.  相似文献

An (n, d, k)-mapping f is a mapping from binary vectors of length n to permutations of length n + k such that for all x, y {0,1}n, dH (f(x), f(y)) ≥ dH (x, y) + d, if dH (x, y) ≤ (n + k) − d and dH (f(x), f(y)) = n + k, if dH (x, y) > (n + k) − d. In this paper, we construct an (n,3,2)-mapping for any positive integer n ≥ 6. An (n, r)-permutation array is a permutation array of length n and any two permutations of which have Hamming distance at least r. Let P(n, r) denote the maximum size of an (n, r)-permutation array and A(n, r) denote the same setting for binary codes. Applying (n,3,2)-mappings to the design of permutation array, we can construct an efficient permutation array (easy to encode and decode) with better code rate than previous results [Chang (2005). IEEE Trans inf theory 51:359–365, Chang et al. (2003). IEEE Trans Inf Theory 49:1054–1059; Huang et al. (submitted)]. More precisely, we obtain that, for n ≥ 8, P(n, r) ≥ A(n − 2, r − 3) > A(n − 1,r − 2) = A(n, r − 1) when n is even and P(n, r) ≥ A(n − 2, r − 3) = A(n − 1, r − 2) > A(n, r − 1) when n is odd. This improves the best bound A(n − 1,r − 2) so far [Huang et al. (submitted)] for n ≥ 8. Asymptotic Upper Bounds for Ramsey Functions   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5
We show that for any graph G with N vertices and average degree d, if the average degree of any neighborhood induced subgraph is at most a, then the independence number of G is at least Nf a +1(d), where f a +1(d)=∫0 1(((1−t)1/( a +1))/(a+1+(da−1)t))dt. Based on this result, we prove that for any fixed k and l, there holds r(K k + l ,K n )≤ (l+o(1))n k /(logn) k −1. In particular, r(K k , K n )≤(1+o(1))n k −1/(log n) k −2.  Assume that G is a 3-colourable connected graph with e(G) = 2v(G) −k, where k≥ 4. It has been shown that s 3(G) ≥ 2 k −3, where s r (G) = P(G,r)/r! for any positive integer r and P(G, λ) is the chromatic polynomial of G. In this paper, we prove that if G is 2-connected and s 3(G) < 2 k −2, then G contains at most v(G) −k triangles; and the upper bound is attained only if G is a graph obtained by replacing each edge in the k-cycle C k by a 2-tree. By using this result, we settle the problem of determining if W(n, s) is χ-unique, where W(n, s) is the graph obtained from the wheel W n by deleting all but s consecutive spokes. It is a well-known consequence of the Baker-Pixley-Theorem that any clone containing a near-unanimity operation is finitely generated, leading to the question what arity the generating functions must have. In this paper, we show that, for arbitrary d ≥ 2 and large enough n, (n − 1) d − 1 is the smallest integer k such that, for every clone C on an n-element set that contains a (d + 1)-ary near-unanimity operation, C (k) generates C.  相似文献

For every polynomial mapf=(f 1,…,f k): ℝ n →ℝ k , we consider the number of connected components of its zero set,B(Z f) and two natural “measures of the complexity off,” that is the triple(n, k, d), d being equal to max(degree off i), and thek-tuple (Δ1,...,Δ4), Δ k being the Newton polyhedron off i respectively. Our aim is to boundB(Z f) by recursive functions of these measures of complexity. In particular, with respect to (n, k, d) we shall improve the well-known Milnor-Thom’s bound μ d (n)=d(2d−1) n−1. Considered as a polynomial ind, μ d (n) has leading coefficient equal to 2 n−1. We obtain a bound depending onn, d, andk such that ifn is sufficiently larger thank, then it improves μ d (n) for everyd. In particular, it is asymptotically equal to 1/2(k+1)n k−1 dn, ifk is fixed andn tends to infinity. The two bounds are obtained by a similar technique involving a slight modification of Milnor-Thom's argument, Smith's theory, and information about the sum of Betti numbers of complex complete intersections.  相似文献

We consider a variant of Heilbronn’s triangle problem by investigating for a fixed dimension d≥2 and for integers k≥2 with kd distributions of n points in the d-dimensional unit cube [0,1] d , such that the minimum volume of the simplices, which are determined by (k+1) of these n points is as large as possible. Denoting by Δ k,d (n), the supremum of this minimum volume over all distributions of n points in [0,1] d , we show that c k,d ⋅(log n)1/(dk+1)/n k/(dk+1)Δ k,d (n)≤c k,d ′/n k/d for fixed 2≤kd, and, moreover, for odd integers k≥1, we show the upper bound Δ k,d (n)≤c k,d ″/n k/d+(k−1)/(2d(d−1)), where c k,d ,c k,d ′,c k,d ″>0 are constants. Let H be an atomic monoid. For k ? \Bbb Nk \in {\Bbb N} let Vk (H){\cal V}_k (H) denote the set of all m ? \Bbb Nm \in {\Bbb N} with the following property: There exist atoms (irreducible elements) u 1, …, u k , v 1, …, v m H with u 1· … · u k = v 1 · … · v m . We show that for a large class of noetherian domains satisfying some natural finiteness conditions, the sets Vk (H){\cal V}_k (H) are almost arithmetical progressions. Suppose that H is a Krull monoid with finite cyclic class group G such that every class contains a prime (this includes the multiplicative monoids of rings of integers of algebraic number fields). We show that, for every k ? \Bbb Nk \in {\Bbb N}, max V2k+1 (H) = k |G|+ 1{\cal V}_{2k+1} (H) = k \vert G\vert + 1 which settles Problem 38 in [4].  相似文献

Given any positive integer n, we prove the existence of infinitely many right triangles with area n and side lengths in certain number fields. This generalizes the famous congruent number problem. The proof allows the explicit construction of these triangles; for this purpose we find for any positive integer n an explicit cubic number field ℚ(λ) (depending on n) and an explicit point P λ of infinite order in the Mordell-Weil group of the elliptic curve Y 2 = X 3n 2 X over ℚ(λ). We consider a variation of a classical Turán-type extremal problem as follows: Determine the smallest even integer σ(Kr,r,n) such that every n-term graphic sequence π = (d1,d2,...,dn) with term sum σ(π) = d1 + d2 + ... + dn ≥ σ(Kr,r,n) is potentially Kr,r-graphic, where Kr,r is an r × r complete bipartite graph, i.e. π has a realization G containing Kr,r as its subgraph. In this paper, the values σ(Kr,r,n) for even r and n ≥ 4r2 - r - 6 and for odd r and n ≥ 4r2 + 3r - 8 are determined.  相似文献

For κ ⩾ 0 and r0 > 0 let ℳ(n, κ, r0) be the set of all connected, compact n-dimensional Riemannian manifolds (Mn, g) with Ricci (M, g) ⩾ −(n−1) κ g and Inj (M) ⩾ r0. We study the relation between the kth eigenvalue λk(M) of the Laplacian associated to (Mn,g), Δ = −div(grad), and the kth eigenvalue λk(X) of a combinatorial Laplacian associated to a discretization X of M. We show that there exist constants c, C > 0 (depending only on n, κ and r0) such that for all M ∈ ℳ(n, κ, r0) and X a discretization of for all k < |X|. Then, we obtain the same kind of result for two compact manifolds M and N ∈ ℳ(n, κ, r0) such that the Gromov–Hausdorff distance between M and N is smaller than some η > 0. We show that there exist constants c, C > 0 depending on η, n, κ and r0 such that for all . Assuming m − 1 < kp < m, we prove that the space C (M, N) of smooth mappings between compact Riemannian manifolds M, N (m = dim M) is dense in the Sobolev space W k,p (M, N) if and only if π m−1(N) = {0}. If π m−1(N) ≠ {0}, then every mapping in W k,p (M, N) can still be approximated by mappings MN which are smooth except in finitely many points.  相似文献
