Micropollutants are becoming an increasing problem for the environment and wastewater treatment. One example is Bisphenol A (BPA), an endocrinic disruptor, which is widely used in plastic production. Due to its endocrine disrupting effects on aquatic (micro-)organisms and its ubiquity, in surface- and wastewater alike, adequate treatment techniques are necessary. In this study, the degradation of BPA by a sonoelectrochemical hybrid system was investigated, using a low frequency (24 kHz) ultrasound horn and two boron doped diamond electrodes. It was found that by the combination of the individual processes, i.e. ultrasound and electrochemical oxidation, more than 90% of BPA could be removed within 30 min at an initial concentration of 1 mg L−1. Moreover, synergistic effects were discovered and a considerable improvement compared to the individual processes could be achieved by using a potential of 5 V, whereas synergistic effects were absent at a potential of 10 V. This study provides investigation of ultrasound amplitude, potential and electrode positioning on BPA degradation. The reaction was found to follow pseudo first order kinetics with a rate constant of 0.089 min−1. Samples were analysed by high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) using a diode array detector. Moreover, the presence and distribution of hydroxyl radicals within the reactor was visualized by using sonochemiluminescence.  相似文献

The sonoelectrochemical degradation of triclosan in aqueous solutions with high-frequency ultrasound (850 kHz) and various electrodes was investigated. Diamond coated niobium electrode showed the best results and was used as standard electrode, leading to effective degradation and positive synergistic effect. The influence of different parameters on the degradation degree and energy efficiency were evaluated and favorable reaction conditions were found. It could be shown that 92% of triclosan (1 mg L−1 aqueous solution) was degraded within 15 min, following pseudo-first order kinetics.  相似文献

The sonoelectrochemical treatment of aqueous solutions of trichloroacetic acid (TCAA) has been scaled-up from the voltammetric analysis to pre-pilot stage. The degradation in absence of ultrasound field has yield to a poor performance which has been improved in presence of ultrasound. The sonovoltametry study has provided the range of potentials and/or current densities to be used with the lowest current efficiency penalty. Sonoelectrolyses at batch scale (carried out with a horn-transducer 24 kHz positioned at about 3 cm from the surface of the electrode) achieved little improvement in the degradation. However, when a specifically designed sonoelectrochemical reactor (not optimized) was used during the scale-up, the presence of ultrasound field provided better results (fractional conversion 97%, degradation efficiency 26%, selectivity 0.92 and current efficiency 8%) at lower ultrasonic intensities and volumetric flow.  相似文献

Degradation of azo dye Acid Orange 7 (AO7) by zero-valent aluminum (ZVAl) in combination with ultrasonic irradiation was investigated. The preliminary studies of optimal degradation methodology were conducted with sole ultrasonic, sole ZVAl/air system, ultrasonication + ZVAl/air system (US-ZVAl). In ZVAl/air system, the degradation of AO7 could almost not be observed within 30 min. The degradation of AO7 by ZVAl/air system was obviously enhanced under ultrasound irradiation, and the enhancement is mainly attributed to that the production of hydroxyl radicals in ultrasound-ZVAl process was much higher than that in sole ultrasonic or in sole ZVAl/air system. The variables considered for the effect of degradation were the power of ultrasound, the initial concentration of AO7, as well as the initial pH value and the dosage of zero-valent aluminum. The results showed that the decolorization rate increased with the increase of power density and the dosage of ZVAl, but decreased with the increase of initial pH value and initial concentration of AO7. More than 96% of AO7 removal was achieved within 30 min under optimum operational conditions (AO7: 20 mg/L, ZVAl: 2 g/L, pH: 2.5, ultrasound: 20 kHz, 300 W). This study demonstrates that ultrasound-ZVAl process can effectively decolorize the azo dye AO7 in wastewater.  相似文献

Sonoelectrochemical decomposition of organic compounds is a developing technique among advanced oxidation processes (AOPs). It has the advantage over sonication alone that it increases the efficiency of the process in terms of a more rapid decrease in chemical oxygen demand (COD) and in total organic carbon (TOC) and accelerates electrochemical oxidation which normally requires a lengthy period of time to achieve significant mineralisation. Moreover the use of an electrocatalytic electrode in the process further accelerates the oxidation reaction rates. The aim of this study was to improve the decomposition efficiency of methylene blue (MB) dye by sonoelectrochemical decomposition using environmentally friendly and cost-effective Ti/Ta2O5–SnO2 electrodes. Decolourisation was used to assess the initial stages of decomposition and COD together with TOC was used as a measure of total degradation. The effect of a range of sonication frequencies 20, 40, 380, 850, 1000 and 1176 kHz at different powers on the decolourisation efficiency of MB is reported. Frequencies of 850 and 380 kHz and the use of higher powers were found more effective towards dye decolourisation. The time for complete MB degradation was reduced from 180 min using electrolysis and from 90 min while carrying out sonolysis to 45 min when conducting a combined sonoelectrocatalytic experiments. The COD reduction of 85.4% was achieved after 2 h of combined sonication and electrolysis which is a slightly higher than after a single electrolysis (78.9%) and twice that of sonolysis (40.4%). A dramatic improvement of mineralisation values were observed within 2 h of sonoelectrocatalytic MB degradation. The TOC removal efficiency increased by a factor of 10.7 comparing to sonication alone and by a factor of 1.5 comparing to the electrolytic process. The energy consumption (kWh/m3) required for the complete degradation of MB was evaluated.  相似文献

Palm oil mill effluent (POME) is a highly contaminating wastewater due to its high chemical oxygen demand (COD) and biochemical oxygen demand (BOD). Conventional treatment methods require longer residence time (10–15 days) and higher operating cost. Owing to this, finding a suitable and efficient method for the treatment of POME is crucial. In this investigation, ultrasound cavitation technology has been used as an alternative technique to treat POME. Cavitation is the phenomenon of formation, growth and collapse of bubbles in a liquid. The end process of collapse leads to intense conditions of temperature and pressure and shock waves which assist various physical and chemical transformations. Two different ultrasound systems i.e. ultrasonic bath (37 kHz) and a hexagonal triple frequency ultrasonic reactor (28, 40 and 70 kHz) of 15 L have been used. The results showed a fluctuating COD pattern (in between 45,000 and 60,000 mg/L) while using ultrasound bath alone, whereas a non-fluctuating COD pattern with a final COD of 27,000 mg/L was achieved when hydrogen peroxide was introduced. Similarly for the triple frequency ultrasound reactor, coupling all the three frequencies resulted into a final COD of 41,300 mg/L compared to any other individual or combination of two frequencies. With the possibility of larger and continuous ultrasonic cavitational reactors, it is believed that this could be a promising and a fruitful green process engineering technique for the treatment of POME.  相似文献

Magnesium ammonium phosphate (MAP) crystallization could be utilized for the recovery of phosphorus from wastewater. However, the effectiveness of the recovery is largely determined by the crystallization process, which is very hard to be directly observed. As a result, a specific ultrasonic device was designed to investigate the crystallization characteristics of MAP under various ultrasonic conditions. The results demonstrated that the metastable zone width (MZW) narrowed along with the rising of the ultrasonic power. Similarly, for the 6 mM MAP solution, with the ultrasonic power gradually enhanced from 0 W to 400 W, the induction time was shortened from 340 s to 38 s. Meanwhile, the crystallization rate was accelerated till the power reached 350 W, and then remained a constant value. It can be observed from the scanning electron microscopy (SEM), the MAP crystal became bigger in size as well as the crystal size distribution (CSD) became broad and uneven, with the increase of ultrasonic power. The results indicate that the crystallization process enhanced by power ultrasound could be used as an effective method to eliminate and recover the phosphorus from wastewater.  相似文献

When a liquid is irradiated with high intensities of ultrasound irradiation, acoustic cavitation occurs. Acoustic cavitation generates free radicals from the breakdown of water and other molecules. Cavitation can be fatal to cells and is utilized to destroy cancer tumors. The existence of particles in liquid provides nucleation sites for cavitation bubbles and leads to decrease the ultrasonic intensity threshold needed for cavitation onset. In the present investigation, the effect of gold nanoparticles with appropriate amount and size on the acoustic cavitation activity has been shown by determining hydroxyl radicals in terephthalic acid solutions containing 15, 20, 28 and 35 nm gold nanoparticles sizes by using 1 MHz low level ultrasound. The effect of sonication intensity in hydroxyl radical production was considered. The recorded fluorescence signal in terephthalic acid solutions containing gold nanoparticles was considerably higher than the terephthalic acid solutions without gold nanoparticles at different intensities of ultrasound irradiation. Also, the results showed that the recorded fluorescence signal intensity in terephthalic acid solution containing finer size of gold nanoparticles was lower than the terephthalic acid solutions containing larger size of gold nanoparticles. Acoustic cavitation in the presence of gold nanoparticles can be used as a way for improving therapeutic effects on the tumors.  相似文献

A novel alternated ultrasonic and electric pulse enhanced electrochemical process was developed and used for investigating its effectiveness on the degradation of p-nitrophenol (PNP) in an aqueous solution. The impacts of pulse mode, pH, cell voltage, supporting electrolyte concentration, ultrasonic power and the initial concentration of PNP on the performance of PNP degradation were evaluated. Possible pathway of PNP degradation in this system was proposed based on the intermediates identified by GC–MS. Experimental results showed that 94.1% of PNP could be removed at 2 h in the dual-pulse ultrasound enhanced electrochemical (dual-pulse US-EC) process at mild operating conditions (i.e., pulse mode of electrochemical pulse time (TEC) = 50 ms and ultrasonic pulse time (TUS) = 100 ms, initial pH of 3.0, cell voltage of 10 V, Na2SO4 concentration of 0.05 M, ultrasonic powder of 48.8 W and initial concentration of PNP of 100 mg/L), compared with 89.0%, 58.9%, 2.4% in simultaneous ultrasound enhanced electrochemical (US-EC) process, pulsed electrochemical (EC) process and pulsed ultrasound (US), respectively. Moreover, energy used in the dual-pulse US-EC process was reduced by 50.4% as compared to the US-EC process. The degradation of PNP in the pulsed EC process, US-EC process and dual-pulse process followed pseudo-first-order kinetics. Therefore, the dual-pulse US-EC process was found to be a more effective technique for the degradation of PNP and would have a promising application in wastewater treatment.  相似文献

Cadmium selenide/graphene quantum dots (CdSe/GQDs) nanocatalyst with small band gap energy and a large specific surface area was produced via a facile three-step sonochemical-hydrothermal process. The features of the as-prepared CdSe, GQDs and CdSe/GQDs samples were characterized by photoluminescence spectroscopy (PL), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transformed infrared (FT-IR), diffuse-reflectance spectrophotometer (DRS), and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) analysis. The sonocatalytic activity of the synthesized CdSe/GQDs was effectively accelerated compared with that of pure CdSe nanoparticles in degradation of methylene blue (MB). The influence of the CdSe/GQDs dosage (0.25–1.25 g/L), initial MB concentration (20–30 mg/L), initial solution pH (3–12), and ultrasonic output power (200–600 W/L) were examined on the sonocatalytic treatment of MB aqueous solutions. The degradation efficiency (DE%) of 99% attained at 1 g/L of CdSe/GQDs, 20 mg/L of MB, pH of 9, and an output power of 200 W/L at 90 min of ultrasonic irradiation. Furthermore, DE% increased with addition of K2S2O8 and H2O2 as the enhancers via producing more free radicals. However, addition of sulfate, carbonate, and chloride as radical sweeper decreased DE%. Furthermore, well-reusability of the CdSe/GQDs sonocatalyst was demonstrated for 5 successive runs and some of the sonocatalytic generated intermediates were indicated by GC–MS analysis.  相似文献

The sonoelectrochemical degradation of phenol in aqueous solutions with stainless steel electrodes and high-frequency ultrasound (850 kHz) was investigated. A 60% synergetic effect was obtained in the combined reaction system. High concentration of electrolyte (sodium sulfate) and a high electrical voltage are favorable conditions for the degradation of phenol. A nearly complete degradation of phenol was achieved with 4.26 g/L Na2SO4 and 30 V electrical voltages at 25 °C in 1 h. The degradation of phenol follows pseudo-first order kinetics. Considering costs and application, the energy efficiency of the reaction system with different reaction conditions was evaluated.  相似文献

This paper describes the ultrasound assisted dispersal of a low wt./vol.% copper nanopowder mixture and determines the optimum conditions for de-agglomeration. A commercially available powder was added to propan-2-ol and dispersed using a magnetic stirrer, a high frequency 850 kHz ultrasonic cell, a standard 40 kHz bath and a 20 kHz ultrasonic probe. The particle size of the powder was characterized using dynamic light scattering (DLS). Z-Average diameters (mean cluster size based on the intensity of scattered light) and intensity, volume and number size distributions were monitored as a function of time and energy input. Low frequency ultrasound was found to be more effective than high frequency ultrasound at de-agglomerating the powder and dispersion with a 20 kHz ultrasonic probe was found to be very effective at breaking apart large agglomerates containing weakly bound clusters of nanoparticles. In general, the breakage of nanoclusters was found to be a factor of ultrasonic intensity, the higher the intensity the greater the de-agglomeration and typically micron sized clusters were reduced to sub 100 nm particles in less than 30 min using optimum conditions. However, there came a point at which the forces generated by ultrasonic cavitation were either insufficient to overcome the cohesive bonds between smaller aggregates or at very high intensities decoupling between the tip and solution occurred. Absorption spectroscopy indicated a copper core structure with a thin oxide shell and the catalytic performance of this dispersion was demonstrated by drop coating onto substrates and subsequent electroless copper metallization. This relatively inexpensive catalytic suspension has the potential to replace precious metal based colloids used in electronics manufacturing.  相似文献

The commonly used ultrasonic horn generates localized cavitation below its converging tip resulting in a dense bubble cloud near the tip and limiting diffusion of reactive components into the bubble cloud or reactive radicals out of the bubble cloud. To improve contact between reactive components, a novel ultrasonic horn design was developed based on the principles of the dynamic wave equation. The horn, driven at 20 kHz, has a multi-stepped design with a cone-shaped tip increasing the energy-emitting surface areas and creating multiple reactive zones. Through different physical and chemical experiments, performance of the horn was compared to a typical horn driven at 20 kHz. Hydrophone measurements showed high acoustic pressure areas around the horn neck and tip. Sonochemiluminescence experiments verified multiple cavitation zones consistent with hydrophone readings. Calorimetry and dosimetry results demonstrated a higher energy efficiency (31.3%) and a larger hydroxyl radical formation rate constant (0.36 μM min−1) compared to typical horns. In addition, the new horn degraded naphthalene faster than the typical horn tested. The characterization results demonstrate that the multi-stepped horn configuration has the potential to improve the performance of ultrasound as an advanced oxidation technology by increasing the cavitation zone in the solution.  相似文献

Several acrylic hydrogels were prepared via ultrasonic polymerization of water soluble monomers and macromonomers. Ultrasound was used to create initiating radicals in viscous aqueous monomer solutions using the additives glycerol, sorbitol or glucose in an open system at 37 °C. The water soluble additives were essential for the hydrogel production, glycerol being the most effective. Hydrogels were prepared from the monomers 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate, poly(ethylene glycol) dimethacrylate, dextran methacrylate, acrylic acid/ethylene glycol dimethacrylate and acrylamide/bis-acrylamide. For example a 5% w/w solution of dextran methacrylate formed a hydrogel in 6.5 min in a 70% w/w solution of glycerol in water at 37° C with 20 kHz ultrasound, 56 W cm?2. The ultrasonic polymerization method described here has a wide range of applications such a biomaterial synthesis where initiators are not desired.  相似文献

Various active chemical species such as hydroxyl radicals, oxygen radical, hydrogen peroxide and ozone etc. can be produced by pulsed discharge. These active species can remove organic pollutants from the aqueous phase effectively. In present work pulsed discharge was formed on the pinhole of an insulating plate which was inserted between two plate electrodes. The characteristic of methyl orange decoloration by the discharge was investigated. The results of experimentation showed that peak voltage, pulsed frequency, initial solution conductivity and gas species impact the decoloration rate of the methyl orange (MO) significantly. The decoloration rate of MO solution is increased with increasing of the peak voltage, pulsed frequency, and decreasing initial solution conductivity. When the MO solution was treated with different gases bubbling, different decoloration rate was obtained and the order of decoloration rate is: oxygen > air > nitrogen.  相似文献

The main goal of this work is to develop a novel and environmental-friendly technology for cotton bleaching with reduced processing costs. This work exploits a combined laccase–hydrogen peroxide process assisted by ultrasound. For this purpose, specific reactors were studied, namely ultrasonic power generator type K8 (850 kHz) and ultrasonic bath equipment Ultrasonic cleaner USC600TH (45 kHz). The optimal operating conditions for bleaching were chosen considering the highest levels of hydroxyl radical production and the lowest energy input. The capacity to produce hydroxyl radicals by hydrodynamic cavitation was also assessed in two homogenizers, EmulsiFlex®-C3 and APV-2000. Laccase nanoemulsions were produced by high pressure homogenization using BSA (bovine serum albumin) as emulsifier. The bleaching efficiency of these formulations was tested and the results showed higher whiteness values when compared to free laccase. The combination of laccase–hydrogen peroxide process with ultrasound energy produced higher whiteness levels than those obtained by conventional methods. The amount of hydrogen peroxide was reduced 50% as well as the energy consumption in terms of temperature (reduction of 40 °C) and operating time (reduction of 90 min).  相似文献

A sonophotochemical oxidation process has been used for the treatment of an aqueous solution of phenol. The aim of this work is to evaluate the effect of nitrate ions on hydroxyl radical production and on phenol oxidation. It has been demonstrated that ultrasound can produce NOx (nitrate and nitrite), with a production rate of 2.2 μM min−1. The photolysis of nitrate can significantly improve the hydroxyl radical production. The apparent rate constant for hydroxyl radical production increased from 0.0015 min−1 to 0.0073 min−1 while increasing initial nitrate concentration from 0 to 0.5 mM. The concentration of hydroxyl radical was directly proportional to the initial nitrate concentration. Using US/UV process, the apparent reaction rate constant of phenol degradation in the presence of nitrate reached 0.020 min−1, which was relatively lower than the value obtained (0.027 min−1) in the absence of nitrate. It appeared that, nitrate ions can inhibit the sonochemical degradation of organic compounds such as phenol.  相似文献

The present work reports a novel dual-pulse ultrasound enhanced electrochemical degradation (US-ECD) process that synchronizes alternatively ultrasound pulses and potential pulses to degrade nitrobenzene in aqueous solution with a high percentage degradation and low energy consumption. In comparison to the test results generated from the conventional US-ECD and original electrochemical degradation (ECD) process, the dual-pulse US-ECD process increased degradation percentages to nitrobenzene by 2% and 17%, respectively, while energy used in the pulse process was only about 46.5% of that was used in the conventional US-ECD process. Test results demonstrated a superior performance of the dual-pulse US-ECD process over those of other conventional ones. Impacts of pulse mode, initial pH value, cell voltage, supporting electrolyte concentration and ultrasonic power on the process performances were investigated. With operation conditions optimized in the study at pH = 3.0, cell voltage = 10 V, ultrasonic power = 48.84 W, electrolyte concentration = 0.1 M and an experiment running time of 30 min, the percentage degradation of nitrobenzene could reach 80% (US pulse time = 50 ms and ECD pulse time = 50 ms). This process provided a reliable and effective technical approach to degrade nitrobenzene in aqueous solution and significantly reduced energy consumption in comparison to the conventional US-ECD or original ECD treatment.  相似文献

The present work deals with application of sonochemical reactors for the treatment of imidacloprid containing wastewaters either individually or in combination with other advanced oxidation processes. Experiments have been performed using two different configurations of sonochemical reactors viz. ultrasonic horn (20 kHz frequency and rated power of 240 W) and ultrasonic bath equipped with radially vibrating horn (25 kHz frequency and 1 kW rated power). The work also investigates the effect of addition of process intensifying agents such as H2O2 and CuO, which can enhance the production of free radicals in the system. The combination studies with advanced oxidation process involve the advanced Fenton process and combination of ultrasound with UV based oxidation. The extent of degradation obtained using combination of US and H2O2 at optimum loading of H2O2 was found to be 92.7% whereas 96.5% degradation of imidacloprid was achieved using the combination of US and advanced Fenton process. The process involving the combination of US, UV and H2O2 was found to be the best treatment approach where complete degradation of imidacloprid was obtained with 79% TOC removal. It has been established that the use of cavitation in combination with different oxidation processes can be effectively used for the treatment of imidacloprid containing wastewater.  相似文献

Pharmaceutical products are often present in wastewater treatment effluents, rivers, lakes and, more rarely, in groundwater. The advanced oxidation methods, like ultrasound, find a promising future in the area of wastewater treatment. The aim of this paper is to evaluate the influence of several parameters of the ultrasound process on the degradation of paracetamol, a widely used non-steroidal anti-inflammatory recalcitrant drug found in water and levodopa, the most frequently prescribed drug for the treatment of Parkinson disease. Experiments were carried out at 574, 860 and 1134 kHz of ultrasonic frequency with horn-type sonicator and actual power values of 9, 17, 22 and 32 W at 20 °C. Initial concentrations of 25, 50, 100 and 150 mg L?1 of both products were used. Treatment efficiency was assessed following changes in pharmaceuticals concentration and chemical oxygen demand. The sonochemical degradation of both products follows a pseudo-first-order reaction kinetics. Complete removal of pharmaceuticals was achieved in some cases but some dissolved organic carbon remains in solution showing that long lived intermediates were recalcitrant to ultrasound irradiation. Pollutants conversion and COD removal were found to decrease with increasing the initial solute concentration and decreasing power. The best results were obtained with 574 kHz frequency. Investigations using 1-butanol as radical scavenger and H2O2 as promoter revealed that pollutants degradation proceeds principally through radical reactions, although some differences were observed between both molecules. Addition of H2O2 had a positive effect on degradation rate, but the optimum concentration of hydrogen peroxide depends on the pollutant.  相似文献
