The aim of this study was to evaluate the defluoridation efficiencies of various sorbents in aqueous solution. These sorbents include synthetic nano-hydroxyapatite (n-HAp), biogenic apatite (bone meal), treated biogenic apatite (bone meal prepared by H2O2 oxidation) and geogenic apatite (rock phosphate), which were characterized by XRD, FTIR, TEM and SEM. It has been observed that the defluoridation capacities follow the order: n-HAp > BH2O2 > B > rock phosphate. The controlling factors, sorbent dose, initial fluoride concentration, pH, contact time and temperature were investigated. The defluoridation capacities increased with the increase in the initial fluoride concentration and contact time, decreased with the increase in the sorbent dose. The optimum pH range for removal of fluoride on various apatite sorbents was considered to be 5.0-6.0. The fluoride adsorption can be explained by Langmuir, Freundlich isotherms, and the adsorption kinetic data follow the pseudo-second-order model. Thermodynamic parameters such as ΔH0, ΔS0 and ΔG0 indicated that the adsorption on various apatite sorbents was spontaneous and endothermic. These results showed that bone meal is a promising material for fluoride adsorption.  相似文献

In present study adsorption capacity of waste materials of Daucus carota plant (carrot stem powder: CSP and carrot leaves powder: CLP) was explored for the removal of methylene blue (MB) malachite green (MG) dye from water. The morphology and functional groups present were investigated by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The operating variables studied were pH, adsorbent dose, ionic strength, initial dye concentration, contact time and temperature. Equilibrium data were analysed using Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models and monolayer adsorption capacity of adsorbents were calculated. Kinetic data were studied using pseudo-first and pseudo-second order kinetic models and the mechanism of adsorption was described by intraparticle diffusion model.Various thermodynamic parameters such as enthalpy of adsorption ΔH°, free energy change ΔG° and entropy ΔS° were estimated. Negative value of ΔH° and negative values of ΔG° showed that the adsorption process was exothermic and spontaneous. Negative value of entropy ΔS° showed the decreased randomness at the solid–liquid interface during the adsorption of MB and MG onto CSP and CLP.  相似文献

The fluoride adsorption by Electro-Generated Adsorbents (EGA) was briefly and recently shown. In this paper, the preparation of a particular EGA and its characteristics are presented. For the first time, the fluoride adsorption of one EGA was deeply investigated showing that the regeneration of this material leads to an efficient process which was better than an electrocoagulation one. The investigated adsorbent called EGANaCl was prepared by electrolysis in NaCl electrolyte with aluminum electrodes and was characterized by X-ray Diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), FTIR and BET studies. The physical analyses showed that EGANaCl was a mesoporous mixture of AlOOH and three Al(OH)3 which contain the chlorine element and registered the surface area of 114.31 m2 g−1. The presence of chlorine explains the pH increase observed during the electrolysis. The fluoride adsorption as a function of pH, initial fluoride concentration, EGANaCl dose, temperature, co-ions and cycles of regeneration was studied using batch methods. Among the kinetic models, the pseudo – second – order model was superior to others and among the adsorption isotherms, Langmuir model fits well as compared to that of Freundlich model based on the regression coefficient values. Determination of thermodynamic parameters such as ΔH and ΔG respectively revealed the nature of endothermic and temperature – driven nature of the fluoride sorption process. The maximum adsorption capacity of EGANaCl was found to be 16.33 mg g−1 at 27 °C and a maximum fluoride removal occurred at pH 6.55. The spent adsorbent showed the defluoridation efficiency of 95.53% up to fifth regeneration with diluted NaOH. Factorial design matrix and analysis of variance using JMP model have also been extensively discussed in this paper.  相似文献

This work explored the potential of clinoptilolite, molybdenum sulphide (MoS2), and MoS2-clinoptilolite composite in lead (Pb) removal from aqueous medium and industrial mining wastewater. MoS2-clinoptilolite composite was successfully prepared by a hydrothermal method. The surface properties, structure, and composition of the synthesized composite and the parent compounds were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The removal efficiency of lead from aqueous solution was studied in batch-mode experiments. The MoS2-clinoptilolite was used for the removal of Pb ions (50 mg/L) from an aqueous solution: ~100% of the Pb was removed with a MoS2-clinoptilolite dose of 0.075 g, pH 6 at 328K within 90 min. The adsorption capacities of Pb onto MoS2-clinoptilolite were found to be higher than those onto clinoptilolite. Metal ion adsorption behavior was well explained by the Freundlich model, that is, multilayer adsorption of Pb molecules occurred on the heterogeneous surface of adsorbents in case of clinoptilolite, while in the case of MoS2-clinoptilolite, the Langmuir model was suitable, that is, the adsorption occurred on a monolayer surface. The rate of Pb adsorption was explained by pseudo-second-order model suggesting that the adsorption process is presumably chemisorption. Thermodynamic parameters such as ΔH°, ΔS°, and ΔG° were calculated, which indicated that the adsorption was spontaneous and exothermic in nature. The selectivity of each adsorbent for Pb was also tested by adding the adsorbents to real gold mine water which contains competitive metal ions.  相似文献

A novel polyacrylonitrile (PAN)–titanium oxide (TiO2) nanofiber adsorbent functionalized with aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) was fabricated by electrospinning. The adsorbent was characterized by SEM, FTIR, TEG and BET analyses. The pore diameter and surface area of the adsorbent were 3.1 nm and 10.8 m2 g?1, respectively. The effects of several variables, such as TiO2 and amine contents, pH, interaction time, initial concentration of metal ions, ionic strength and temperature, were studied in batch experiments. The kinetic data were analyzed by pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order and double-exponential models. Two isotherm models, namely Freundlich and Langmuir, were used for analysis of equilibrium data. The maximum adsorption capacities of Th(IV), Ni(II) and Fe(II) by Langmuir isotherm were found to be 250, 147 and 80 mg g?1 at 45 °C with pH of 5, 6 and 5, respectively, and greater adsorption of Th(IV) could be justified with the concept of covalent index and free energy of hydration. Calculation of ΔG°, ΔH° and ΔS° demonstrated that the nature of the Th(IV), Ni(II) and Fe(II) metal ions adsorption onto the PAN–TiO2–APTES nanofiber was endothermic and favorable at a higher temperature. The negative values of ΔG° for Th(IV) showed that the adsorption process was spontaneous, but these values for Ni(II)and Fe(II) were positive and so the adsorption process was unspontaneous. Increasing of ionic strength improved the adsorption of Ni(II) and Fe(II) on nanofiber adsorbent but decreased the adsorption capacity of Th(IV). The adsorption capacity was reduced slightly after six cycles of adsorption–desorption, so the nanofiber adsorbent could be used on an industrial scale. The inhibitory effect of Ni(II) and Fe(II) on the adsorption of Th(IV) was increased with an increase in the concentration of inhibitor metal ions.  相似文献

Applications of a hybrid material consisting of polyacrylamide (PAA) and Xylidyl Blue (XB) for the removal of uranyl ions from aqueous solutions has been investigated with all details. Adsorption experiments were performed at batch mode and constant temperature. Experimental parameters affecting adsorption process such as pH, initial uranyl concentration, time and temperature were studied on the removal of the uranyl ions. The isotherms assays were carried out with synthetic solutions and adsorption data were evaluated by using Langmuir, Freundlich and Dubinin–Radushkevich (D–R) isotherm models. Morphological and chemical characterizations of new synthesized material were investigated by UV-VIS-NIR spectroscopy and SEM/EDX techniques and pHpzc experiments. The results of the kinetic experiments are consistent with pseudo-second-order models and intra-particle diffusion models with a slightly better fit to the latter. Equilibrium was achieved within 3 h. The value of rate constant for adsorption process was calculated as 1.055 mol−1 kg min−1 at 318 K. The calculated thermodynamic parameters (ΔG°, ΔH° and ΔS°) indicated that the adsorption of uranyl ions onto XB@PAA was feasible, spontaneous and endothermic nature under the studied temperature. The developed material has also a potential as a sensor because its color turn from pink to red by adsorption of uranyl ions.  相似文献

The effect of temperature of activation on bone charcoal, used as adsorbent for the removal of Patent Blue VF from water solutions was studied. The adsorbent was characterized by FTIR, XRD, SEM and EDS. The kinetic of adsorption of dye was carried out at 10 °C and 45 °C. Carbonization temperature (600–1000 °C) of the adsorbent has significant effect on the removal of dye from water solutions. The first order kinetic, Elovich, Bangham, parabolic diffusion and power function equations were found to fit the kinetic data. Activation energies of adsorption (Δ≠) have higher values for the charcoal activated at high temperatures and the other thermodynamic parameters like ΔH≠, ΔS≠ and ΔG≠ were also found.  相似文献

Titanate nanotubes (TNTs) have been synthesized by a hydrothermal method using rutile TiO2 powder as titanium source. The determination of the structure and morphology was characterized by XRD, FTIR, SEM and TEM. The results indicate that the TNTs successfully synthesized under hydrothermal conditions of 150 °C. The adsorption of Th(IV) on TNTs was studied as a function of contact time, pH values, ionic strength, initial Th(IV) concentration and temperature under ambient conditions by using batch technique. The results indicate that adsorption of Th(IV) on TNTs is strongly dependent on pH values, but weakly dependent on ionic strength; Adsorption kinetics was better described by the pseudo-second-order model. The adsorption isotherms are simulated by Langmuir and Freundlich models well. ΔG°, ΔH° and ΔS° free energy were calculated from experimental data, The results indicate that the adsorption of Th(IV) on TNTs is an endothermic and a spontaneous process, and increases with increasing temperature. The adsorption of Th(IV) on TNTs is mainly dominated by chemical sorption or surface complexation.  相似文献

In this study, SAA@CS-CB(aluminum-ash carbide slag carbon black doped composite) was prepared by sintering method and modified by impregnation with oxalic acid to obtain SAA@CS-CBoa. Fluoride adsorption experiments were carried out using this composite as adsorbent. With increasing pH values, the adsorption amount of fluoride decreases in the range of 2–11. The pseudo second order equation and Langmuir model were fit to the experimental data, and the adsorption of fluoride by SAA@CS-CBoa exhibited spontaneous and endothermic characteristics. When PO43-, CO32–, SO42-, Cl-, NO3, Br- and HCO3 anions were individually or combined in solution, the adsorbents exhibited higher fluoride selectivity and sensitivity, while PO43-and CO32– weakened the adsorption of fluoride in solution in the same way regardless of the presence of the other 5 anions. The results of SEM, EDS, XRD and FTIR characterizations showed that the mechanism of fluoride adsorption and removal by SAA@CS-CBoa included the combined effects of electrostatic attraction, surface coordination precipitation and ion exchange. SAA@CS-CBoa is an effective composite material for water adsorption of fluoride, and still has an excellent performance of cyclic regeneration after 10 times adsorption desorption. This study provides a new approach for the utilization of fluoride removal resources for industrial solid waste resource recycling.  相似文献

Silicate mercapto Duolite composite ( SMDC ) and activated Duolite A 101 D ( AD ) were prepared, characterized, and tested for uranium removal from sulfate solution using batch experiment technique. The capability of newly adsorbents for sorption of uranium was estimated and optimized under different controlling variables, including the impact of uranium initial concentration, pH of the medium, equilibrium time, temperatures, dose and interfering ions. Testing of different adsorbents for adsorption isotherms revealed that the achieved experimental data were fitting well with the Langmuir isotherm model with 68.02 mg · g–1 and 208.33 mg · g–1 as theoretical capacity for AD and SMDC , respectively. Thermodynamic parameters have been resulted in negative values for ΔH and ΔS indicating an exothermic and decreased randomness behavior for uranium(VI) adsorption, while negative values of ΔG indicate spontaneous uranium adsorption. The kinetics studies showed that the adsorption process was controlled expressed by pseudo-second order model. Finally, the optimized factors have been applied for uranium(VI) recovery from Gattar leach liquor producing a uranium concentrate (Na2U2O7) with uranium concentration of 70 % and purity of 93.33 %.  相似文献

Removal and recovery of Mo(VI) from aqueous solutions were investigated using maghemite (γ-Fe2O3) nanoparticles. Combination of nanoparticle adsorption and magnetic separation was used to the removal and recovery of Mo(VI) from water and wastewater solutions. The nanoscale maghemite with mean diameter of 50 nm was synthesized by reduction coprecipitation method followed by aeration oxidation. Various factors influencing the adsorption of Mo(VI), e.g. pH, temperature, initial concentration, and coexisting common ions were studied. Adsorption reached equilibrium within <10 min and was independent of initial concentration of Mo(VI). Studies were performed at different pH values to find out the pH at which maximum adsorption occurred. The maximum adsorption occurred at pHs between 4.0 and 6.0. The Langmuir adsorption capacity (qmax) was found to be 33.4 mg Mo(VI)/g of the adsorbent. The results showed that nanoparticle (γ-Fe2O3) is suitable for the removal of Mo(VI), as molybdate, from water and wastewater samples. The adsorbed Mo(VI) was then desorbed and determined spectrophotometrically using bromopyrogallol red as a complexation reagent. This allows the determination of Mo(VI) in the range 1.0–86.0 ng mL−1.  相似文献

This study contains the synthesis of silica gel-immobilized calix[4]arene derivative (TR-CL[4]P) as a new sorbent and its sorption studies towards Cu (II) ion in aqueous solution. The aldehyde pointed calix[4]arene derivative 5 was synthesized and then it was immobilized onto 3-aminopropilsilica gel (APS). In batch sorption experiments, the experimental results showed that TR-CL[4]P is effective sorbent towards Cu (II) ion. Therefore, the effect of solution pH, sorption time, temperature and initial metal ion concentration onto Cu (II) sorption was investigated. Maximum Cu(II) removal was obtained at 30?°C, 30?min and pH 6.0 for TR-CL[4]P and the batch sorption capacity was found as 17.8?mg/g. The characteristics of the sorption process for Cu (II) ion were evaluated by using the Langmuir, Freundlich and Dubinin–Radushkevich (D–R) adsorption isotherms. Also, thermodynamic parameters, i.e., ΔG, ΔS, and ΔH were calculated for the system.  相似文献

Poly-L-histidine immobilized poly(glycidyl methacrylate) (PGMA) cryogel discs were used for the removal of heavy metal ions [Pb(II), Cd(II), Zn(II) and Cu(II)] from aqueous solutions. In the first step, PGMA cryogel discs were synthesized using glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) as a basic monomer and methylene bisacrylamide (MBAAm) as a cross linker in order to introduce active epoxy groups through the polymeric backbone. Then, the metal chelating groups are incorporated to cryogel discs by immobilizing poly-L-histidine (mol wt ≥ 5000) having poly-imidazole ring. The swelling test, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy were performed to characterize both the PGMA and poly-L-histidine immobilized PGMA [P-His@PGMA] cryogel discs. The effects of the metal ion concentration and pH on the adsorption capacity were studied. These parameters were varied between 3.0–6.0 and 10–800 mg/L for pH and metal ion concentration, respectively. The maximum adsorption capacity of heavy metal ions of P-His@PGMA cryogel discs were 6.9 mg/g for Pb(II), 6.4 mg/g for Cd(II), 5.6 mg/g for Cu(II) and 4.3 mg/g for > Zn(II). Desorption of heavy metal ions was studied with 0.1 M HNO3 solution. It was observed that cryogel discs could be recurrently used without important loss in the adsorption amount after five repetitive adsorption/desorption processes. Adsorption isotherms were fitted to Langmuir model and adsorption kinetics were suited to pseudo-second order model. Thermodynamic parameters (i.e. ΔH° ΔS°, ΔG°) were also calculated at different temperatures.  相似文献

In this study, activated carbon particles were magnetized by different amounts of maghemite in different temperatures using co-precipitation method and the resultant nanocomposite were modified with ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) to increase the permanganate contaminants adsorption capacity and to prevent degradation and oxidation of maghemite nanoparticles. Various properties of nanocomposite were investigated using different techniques including, vibrating sample magnetometer, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and Fourier transform infrared spectrometer. Different kinetics, isotherms and thermodynamic models of adsorption process were investigated. Comparing data with kinetic models showed that the adsorption process complies with the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The study of equilibrium isotherms data at different temperatures indicated that the adsorption process is more compatible with Langmuir model. Negative values of ΔG and positive values of ΔH revealed that adsorption process is spontaneous and endothermic. Response surface methodology was used to determine optimal parameters of an adsorbent dose of 1 g L−1, pH = 2 and initial permanganate concentration of 50 mg L−1, according to which, the maximum capacity of permanganate adsorption obtained under optimal conditions was 93.86 mg g−1.  相似文献

The adsorption behavior of radiocobalt by Mg2Al layered double hydroxide (Mg2Al LDH) was studied as a function of contact time, pH, ionic strength, foreign ions, FA and temperature under ambient conditions. The results showed that the kinetic adsorption could be described by a pseudo-second order model very well. The adsorption of Co(II) on Mg2Al LDH was strongly dependent on pH and ionic strength. The presence of FA enhanced the adsorption of Co(II) on Mg2Al LDH at low pH, whereas reduced Co(II) adsorption at high pH. The Langmuir model fitted the adsorption isotherms of Co(II) better than the Freundlich and D–R model at three different temperatures of 303, 323 and 343 K. The thermodynamic parameters (ΔH°, ΔS° and ΔG°) calculated from the temperature dependent adsorption isotherms indicated that the adsorption process of Co(II) on Mg2Al LDH was endothermic and spontaneous. The results show that Mg2Al LDH is a promising material for the preconcentration and separation of pollutants from large volumes of aqueous solutions.  相似文献

In this study, the performance of modified adsorbents obtained from activated carbon for the adsorption of thorium(IV) ions from aqueous media was investigated. The analytical and spectroscopic methods such as FT-IR, BET, SEM and UV–Vis were used to examine the properties of the modified materials. According to the analysis results, the both adsorbents had large surface areas after modification. Then, temperature, pH, mixing time and solution concentration parameters were observed to determine optimum thorium adsorption conditions on modified materials. The obtained results from the experiments were applied different three kinetic models and adsorption isotherms and thermodynamic parameters were calculated and then all of the results were interpreted. The adsorption process for both adsorption systems was observed to be compatible with the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The adsorption equilibrium data were best described by the Langmuir model for modified adsorbent with KMnO4 and by the Freundlich model for modified adsorbent with NaOH. Furthermore, the calculated thermodynamic parameters (ΔG°, ΔH° and ΔS°) showed that the both adsorption processes were endothermic and spontaneous. The data show that modified adsorbents can be used as influential and low-cost adsorbents to remove thorium ion. Modified new adsorbents were highly selective for thorium ion in competitive adsorption studies.

Zirconyl-molybdopyrophosphate-tributyl phosphate (ZMPP-TBP) was a novel organic-inorganic composite adsorbent prepared by co-precipitation method and used in the adsorption of uranium from aqueous solution in batch adsorption experiments. The as-obtained product was characterized using SEM, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), XRD and BET-N2 adsorption measurements. The study had been conducted to investigate the effects of solution pH, temperature, contact time, initial concentration and coexisting ions. A maximum removal of 99.31% was observed for an initial concentration 5 mg/L, at pH 6.0 and an adsorbent dose of 1.0 g/L. The isothermal data were fitted with both Langmuir and Freundlich equations, but the data fitted the former better than the latter. According to the evaluation using the Langmuir equation, the maximum adsorption capacity of uranium (VI) was 196.08 mg/g at 293 K and pH 6.0. The pseudo-first-order kinetic model and pseudo-second-order kinetic model were used to describe the kinetic data, and the pseudo-second-order kinetic model was better. The thermodynamic parameter ΔG was calculated, the negative ΔG values of uranium (VI) at different temperature showed that the adsorption process was spontaneous. The good reusability of ZMPP-TBP also indicated that the ZMPP-TBP was a very promising adsorbent for uranium adsorption from aqueous solution.  相似文献

Discharge of heavy metals from metal processing industries is known to have adverse effects on the environment. Biosorption of heavy metals by metabolically inactive biomass of microbial organisms is an innovative and alternative technology for removal of these pollutants from aqueous solution. Presence of heavy metals in the aquatic system is posing serious problems. Zinc has been used in many industries and removal of Zn ions from waste water is significant. Biosorption is one of the economic methods used for removal of heavy metals. In the present study, the biomass obtained from the dried Chlorella pyrenoidosa was used for evaluating the biosorption characteristics of Zn ions in aqueous solutions. Batch adsorption experiments were performed with this material and it was found that the amount of metal ions adsorbed increased with the increase in the initial metal ion concentration. In this study effect of agitation time, initial metal ion concentration, temperature, pH and biomass dosage were studied. Maximum metal uptake (q max) observed at pH 5 was 101.11 mg/g. The biosorption followed both Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm model. The adsorption equilibrium was reached in about 1 h. The kinetic of biosorption followed the second-border rate. The biomass could be regenerated using 0.1 M HNO3. A positive value of ΔH° indicated the endothermic nature of the process. A negative value of the free energy (ΔG°) indicated the spontaneous nature of the adsorption process. A positive value of ΔS° showed increased randomness at solid-liquid interface during the adsorption of heavy metals, it also suggests some structural changes in the adsorbate and the adsorbent. FTIR Spectrums of Chlorella pyrenoidosa revealed the presence of hydroxyl, amino, carboxylic and carbonyl groups. The scanning electron micrograph clearly revealed the surface texture and morphology of the biosorbent.  相似文献

Functional materials obtained from cellulosic biofibers have gained attention due to the growing demand for them in the field of wastewater remediation. In view of the technological significance of functionalized cellulosic biofibers in wastewater treatment, the present study is a green approach to functionalized cellulosic fibers through graft copolymerization under microwave irradiation. The grafted cellulosic polymers were subsequently subjected to heavy metal ion adsorption studies in order to assess their application in wastewater remediation. The effects of pH, contact time, temperature, and metal ion concentration were studied in batchwise adsorption experiments. The Langmuir, Freundlich, and Tempkin models were used to show the adsorption isotherms. The maximum monolayer capacities, q m. calculated using the Langmuir isotherm for Zn2+, Cd2+, and Pb2+ were found to be 37.79, 69.68, and 96.81 mg/g respectively. The thermodynamic parameter ΔH° and ΔG° values for metal ion adsorption on functionalized cellulosic fibers showed that adsorption process was spontaneous as well as exothermic in nature.  相似文献

Dye wastewater from industries is posing tremendous health hazards. The lethal dyes can be eliminated using nanomaterials and scientific approach like adsorption which is facile, cheap, safe as well as ecofriendly. Fe3O4-CuO-AC composite was prepared by a hydrothermal method and used for the removal of dyes in wastewater. The composite material was characterized by various techniques such as XRD, SEM, EDS, TEM and FT-IR. The Fe3O4-CuO-AC composite was used to treat five types of dyes in water. Fe3O4-CuO-AC composite showed the highest adsorption capability for bromophenol blue (BPB) dye. The effects of initial concentration, pH, the amount of adsorbent and temperature were also studied. The optimum conditions were found to be 20 ppm dye concentration, pH 9, an adsorbent dose of 0.06 gL─1 at 65 °C. A removal efficiency of 97% was obtained for BPB dye during 120 min of adsorption. Kinetic studies indicated that a pseudo-second order is the most suitable model for the adsorption process. The Fe3O4-CuO-AC composite showed better adsorption capacity as compare to Fe3O4-AC except for the Methyl green dye. The maximum adsorption capacity was found to be 88.60 mg/g for BPB. Additionally, the thermodynamic parameters (Δ, Δ and Δ) showed that the process was spontaneous and exothermic. All the above results revealed that the Fe3O4-CuO-AC compositecan be an effective adsorbent for removing dyes from wastewater.  相似文献
