The study of wave propagation in periodic systems is at the frontiers of physics, from fluids to condensed matter physics, and from photonic crystals to Bose-Einstein condensates. In optics, a typical example of periodic system is a closely-spaced waveguide array, in which collective behavior of wave propagation exhibits many intriguing phenomena that have no counterpart in homogeneous media. Even in a linear waveguide array, the diffraction property of a light beam changes due to evanescent coupling between nearby waveguide sites, leading to normal and anomalous discrete diffraction. In a nonlinear waveguide array, a balance between diffraction and self-action gives rise to novel localized states such as spatial “discrete solitons” in the semi-infinite (or total-internal-reflection) gap or spatial “gap solitons” in the Bragg reflection gaps. Recently, in a series of experiments, we have “fabricated” closely-spaced waveguide arrays (photonic lattices) by optical induction. Such photonic structures have attracted great interest due to their novel physics, link to photonic crystals, as well as potential applications in optical switching and navigation. In this review article, we present a brief overview on our experimental demonstrations of a number of novel spatial soliton phenomena in light-induced photonic bandgap structures, including self-trapping of fundamental discrete solitons and more sophisticated lattice gap solitons. Much of our work has direct impact on the study of similar discrete phenomena in systems beyond optics, including sound waves, water waves, and matter waves (Bose-Einstein condensates) propagating in periodic potentials.  相似文献

光子晶格作为一种光学周期性离散体系,具有通常均匀介质所无法比拟的独特性质,它为空间离散孤子、表面波以及衍射操控等一系列线性和非线性离散动力学行为的实验观测提供了便利条件,同时在全光路由、全光开关和光子计算机等方面具有重要的应用前景.文章简要回顾了南开大学的研究小组近期在二维光子晶格中有关空间带隙孤子的一系列研究工作,包括二维基本带隙孤子、类偶极带隙孤子、带隙孤子串以及涡旋带隙孤子等.在有的实验过程中,文章作者清晰地观测到探测光束的频谱整形,波常数从具有反常衍射的导带底部演化到光子禁带中,并且通过干涉图反映  相似文献

We address the existence,stability and propagation dynamics of solitons supported by large-scale defects surrounded by the harmonic photonic lattices imprinted in the defocusing saturable nonlinear medium.Several families of soliton solutions,including flat-topped,dipole-like,and multipole-like solitons,can be supported by the defected lattices with different heights of defects.The width of existence domain of solitons is determined solely by the saturable parameter.The existence domains of various types of solitons can be shifted by the variations of defect size,lattice depth and soliton order.Solitons in the model are stable in a wide parameter window,provided that the propagation constant exceeds a critical value,which is in sharp contrast to the case where the soliton trains is supported by periodic lattices imprinted in defocusing saturable nonlinear medium.We also find stable solitons in the semi-infinite gap which rarely occur in the defocusing media.  相似文献

离散孤子标志着从线性到非线性,从连续到非连续,从相干到非相干,人们对孤子认识的一个飞越.文章简要回顾了近期在二维光致光子晶格结构中有关空间离散光孤子的研究,包括基模离散孤子、类矢量离散孤子、离散偶极孤子、离散涡旋孤子和离散孤子串等.在非线性光折变晶体里用部分相干光诱导的波导阵列中,对每一种离散孤子,都清楚地观测到光从二维的离散衍射状态到自囚禁形成离散孤子的转变过程,获得的结果将对其他离散非线性系统中类似现象的研究有所启发.  相似文献

全固态光子带隙光纤由于其独特的带隙和色散特性以及易于和传统光纤熔接的优势,引起了国内外研究人员的广泛关注.本文采用等离子体化学气相沉积工艺结合堆叠拉制法制备了全固态光子带隙光纤,并运用频域有限差分法模拟了其损耗和色散特性.该光纤1550 nm处有较低损耗且单模传输,计算得到1550 nm处的有效模场面积和色散分别为191.81μm2和16.418 ps/(km·nm),在测试范围1500—1650 nm内损耗小于0.15 dB/m.结合实验结果,对光纤参数做了进一步模拟优化.  相似文献

This paper describes the spatial transmission of electromagnetically induced transparency and four-wave mixing signals in the photonic bandgap structure, which are modulated using the adjustable parameters of light fields. The spatial transmission patterns of the relevant signals are experimentally investigated with respect to the optical nonlinear Kerr effect that occurs in the modulation process. The experimental results reveal the spatial transmission patterns of the probe transmission and the four-wave mixing signals, such as focusing, defocusing, shifting, and spatial splitting. This study explains how the tunable parameters of light fields and their interactions with each other can regulate the spatial transmission of the light fields by changing the refractive indices of media, which provides a new research perspective and a degree of experimental technology support for more efficient all-optical communications.  相似文献

In order to study the design flexibility of photonic bandgap structures, we investigate different examples of 1D traditional Bragg layers and 2D photonic crystals. We have also considered a simple case of 3D woodpile structures. It turns out that in systems with large gaps, the evanescent waves penetrate into the bulk only distances comparable to one lattice constant. Therefore confinement of light can also be achieved without long range order, which leads to the introduction of novel photonic bandgap designs. Adhering to some constraints, the changes in the photonic bandgap in disordered structures are negligible. The important quantity to characterize the presence or absence of modes is the local photonic density of states, however bandgap phenomena in size and position disordered arrangements can also be verified with plane wave supercell calculations as well as finite difference time domain techniques.  相似文献

We study the dynamics of vectorial coupled-mode solitons in one-dimensional photonic crystals with quadratic and cubic nonlinearities. Starting from Maxwell's equations, the vectorial coupled-mode equations for the envelopes of two fundamental-frequency optical mode and one low-frequency mode components due to optical rectification are derived by means of the method of multiple scales. A set of coupled soliton solutions of the vectorial coupled-mode equations is provided. The results show that a modulation of the fundamental-frequency optical modes occurs due to the optical rectification field resulting from the quadratic nonlinearity. The optical rectification field disappears when the frequency of the fundamental-frequency optical fields approaches the edge of the photonic bands.  相似文献

设计了基于断环结构的全固光子带隙光纤,其背景材料为熔石英而断环结构由若干掺杂的高折射率介质柱构成.基于平面波展开法计算得到的态密度图和Bloch模场分布表明,该种光纤中的一个高阶带隙可以得到调节并被极大展宽,带隙调节的基本原理是断环可以同时控制包层介质柱的线偏振模式的角向和径向模式阶数.研究表明,断环中的介质柱数目决定了受影响最小的一组线偏振模式的最高角向阶数,而带隙宽度受介质柱尺寸影响很大.这一宽的高阶带隙可以用来设计带隙中心分别在800和1550 nm、带宽分别为488和944 nm的全固光子带隙光纤 关键词: 全固光子带隙光纤 光子带隙 光纤设计 平面波展开法  相似文献

We study the surface defect gap solitons in an interface between a defect of one-dimensional dual-frequency lattices and the uniform media. Some unique properties are revealed that such lattices can broaden the region of semi-finite gap, and the semi-finite gap exists not only in the positive and zero defects but also in the negative defect; unlike in the regular lattices, the semi-finite gap exists in the positive and zero defects but does not exist in the negative defect. In particular, stable solitons exist almost in the whole semi-finite gap for the positive and zero defects. These properties are different from other lattices with defects. In addition, it is found that the existence of surface dual-frequency lattice solitons does not need a threshold power.  相似文献

用干涉法在自散焦光折变晶体 LiNbO3:Fe中写入光子晶格的动态过程中,发现了双光束干涉条纹一分为二,四光束干涉点阵一分为四的分裂现象. 研究证明:这是干涉条纹空间频率的倍频现象,是入射的干涉光场与写入的光子晶格之间相互作用的结果. 本实验说明利用光折变效应可以容易地实现干涉光场空间频率的倍频和空间高次谐波的产生,并可利用产生的空间谐波感应出二倍频和高倍频的光折变光子晶格. 关键词: 光折变晶体 光子晶格 空间谐波  相似文献

提出了电磁感应透明(EIT)介质的一个新的相干操纵应用:控制电磁感应透明气体折射率实现可控光子带隙结构. 将一定密度的EIT原子气体充入以砷化钾为背景的椭圆孔柱中,计算表明该三角晶格排列椭圆柱光子晶体的光子带隙随外控制场而变. 通过调控自发辐射率、无辐射衰变率、控制光Rabi频率、原子数密度等外参数以及椭圆结构几何参数,在高频率区域得到了大小约0.0503ωe(ωe=2πc/a)的完全光子带隙.  相似文献

利用胶体自组装、高温烧结和HF酸刻蚀技术,制备了SiO2微球非密堆积面心立方(FCC)结构的胶体晶体,并以此为模板,利用溶胶凝胶方法和NaOH湿法刻蚀技术制备了TiO2空心微球非密堆积FCC结构光子晶体.利用电子显微镜分析了晶体的结构,用平面波展开法对该结构进行了能带计算与分析.计算结果表明,制备的TiO2空心微球非密堆积FCC结构光子晶体在低能区的第二、第三能带之间除布里渊区的W点仍保持简并外,其余各点简并都已经消除. 关键词: 空心微球 非密堆积 光子晶体 光子带隙  相似文献

研究了一维光晶格中超流费米气体的能隙孤子. 应用平均场理论和超流费米气体的流体动力学模型, 利用变分法得到了在整个跨越区超流费米气体在光晶格中存在带隙孤子的条件, 即原子间的非线性相互作用项与系统化学势以及晶格深度的相互关系. 通过对超流费米气体的基态能隙孤子空间分布的分析与对比, 揭示了在一维情况下超流费米气体能隙孤子的存在并发现超流费米气体能隙孤子在整个跨越区当系统从Bose-Einstein凝聚端跨越到BCS端时孤子存在的条件与孤子空间分布存在明显的差别.  相似文献

研究了中心对称光折变晶体中Kagome光子晶格内带隙孤子的存在及其稳定性。结果表明:带隙孤子只存在于半无限带隙内,中功率的带隙孤子是稳定的,高功率和低功率的带隙孤子是不稳定的。在高功率和中功率区域内,带隙孤子的功率随传播常数的增加而减小。在低功率区域内,带隙孤子的功率随传播常数的增加而变大。  相似文献

The confinement losses in air-guiding photonic bandgap fibers (PBGFs) with air hole missing are studied with full-vector finite-element method. It is confirmed that there are two loss peaks (1.555 and 1.598 μm), if there is a hole missing in the cladding far from the core. The closer to the core the hole missing is, the larger the confinement losses are, even no mode could propagate in the core. The main power of the fundamental mode leaks from the core to the cladding defect. The quality of PBGFs can be improved through controlling the number and position of defects.  相似文献

利用多极法计算了全固态光子带隙光纤第1带隙内不同波长处的基模模场分布,得到2维归一化光强分布特性。由于该光纤具有三角形(C6v)的对称结构,影响了光纤内的模场分布,为此计算了该结构两个具有代表性的方向上的模场分布,分析了带隙内两个不同的结构方向上的模场分布特性。结果表明,在长波长区域,两个方向上的模场半径并不相等,但都随波长的增加而减小,其变化规律与全内反射导光的光纤不同。  相似文献
