We present a detailed study, done in the framework of the INFN 2006 Roadmap, of the prospects for e+e- physics at the Frascati National Laboratories. The physics case for an e+e- collider running at high luminosity at the φ resonance energy and also reaching a maximum center of mass energy of 2.5 GeV is discussed, together with the specific aspects of a very high luminosity τ-charm factory. Subjects connected to kaon decay physics are not discussed here, being part of another INFN Roadmap working group. The significance of the project and the impact on INFN are also discussed. We present a summary of the physics of gluon saturation and non-linear QCD evolution at small values of the parton momentum fraction x in the proton and nucleus in the context of recent experimental results at HERA and RHIC. The rich physics potential of low-x studies at the LHC, especially in the forward region, is discussed and some benchmark measurements in pp, pA and AA collisions are introduced.  相似文献

The ISAC Facility at TRIUMF, Canada’s national laboratory for particle and nuclear physics, provides rare isotope beams for a diverse research program. In this paper we summarize some recent experimental developments at TRIUMF pertaining to fundamental symmetry tests. A new facility for GeV γ-ray beams in an energy range of 1.5–2.4 GeV has been constructed for developing hadron physics at SPring-8. GeV γ-rays are produced via the inverse Compton scattering process, and are used to study the sub-nucleonic structure of nucleon via the productions of φ and K+ mesons. The recent experimental results to observe φ and K+ mesons are discussed to look for the physics in relation to strangeness quarks in baryon resonances. A new beam line for MeV γ-rays at SPring-8 to give new possibilities for the studies of the weak-strong coupling effects in nuclear mediums through the observation of parity violation is also discussed.  相似文献

The paper of Dersch et al. [1], concerning the results of inelastic40Ar + Cu collisions at 1.8 and 0.9 GeV per nucleon, is discussed. The authors have explained their experimental results on the basis of the concept of anomalons of a lifetime of ~2·10?10 s and/or as “inconsistency with known nuclear physics”. It is shown that such conclusions are untenable, and the data presented in the cited paper can be explained within the frame of known physics.  相似文献

The acceleration in 1986 of16O beams to 200 GeV/nucleon at the CERN SPS created a new frontier of particle and nuclear physics, namely the study of high energy density systems with hundreds of quarks and gluons created in the central collisions of nuclei with heavy targets. In order to produce the largest piece of “quark matter”, beams as heavy as208Pb are needed. The Lead-Injector Project that would provide them is presented. Possible experimental approaches to extract the physics from collisions with thousands of produced particles are discussed.  相似文献

The evidence for a three-valued “color” degree of freedom in hadron physics is reviewed. The structure of color model is discussed. Consequences of color models for elementary particle physics are discussed, including saturation properties of hadronic states, πo → 2ψ and related decays, leptoproduction, and lepton pair annihilation. Signatures are given which distinguish theories with isolated colored particles from those in which color is permanently bound.  相似文献

The total cross-sections in high energy hadronic collisions constitute a crucial physical observable in the areas of both particle physics and cosmic ray physics phenomena. In fact, this acts as the linking bridge between these two fields of persistent studies—both experimental and theoretical. In the present work we aim at providing some global and excellent fits to the latest available data on PP total cross-sections from the viewpoint of two phenomenological models. This is a brief summary of the ISNP2K (International Symposium on Nuclear Physics, 2000). Many interesting works were presented on new developments and perspectives of nuclear physics in the plenary and poster sessions. Subjects discussed are 1) high temperature and high density nuclei, new QGP phases and relativistic HI collisions, 2) new degrees of freedoms studied by medium energy reactions, 3) exotic nuclei with large isospin, large A, high J and high E x , 4) new dynamical properties of many body nucleon systems, 5) neutrino nuclear physics and neutrons for astroparticle physics, and 6) new accelerators and new applications. ISNP2K with extensive discussions on nuclear physics frontiers at the turning point from 2000 to 2001 provides a good bridge to the new century.  相似文献
