I develop an improved Hamiltonian for classical, Minkowski Yang-Mills theory, which evolves infrared fields with tree level corrections from lattice spacing a beginning at O(a4). I use it to investigate the response of Chern-Simons number to a chemical potential, and to compute the maximal Lyapunov exponent. The Lyapunov exponent has a small a limit, and the Chern-Simons number response appears to be approaching one at the finest lattices considered. In both cases the limit is within 10% of the limit found using the unimproved (Kogut-Susskind) Hamiltonian. For the maximal Lyapunov exponent the limits differ between Hamiltonians by about 5%, significant at about 5σ, indicating that while a small a limit exists, its value depends on the specifics of the lattice cutoff. For Chern-Simons number the difference between Hamiltonians is within statistical errors of about 10%, which constitutes an upper bound on the lattice regulation dependence.  相似文献

Kauffman knot polynomial invariants are discovered in classical abelian Chern-Simons field theory. A topological invariant tI(L) is constructed for a link L, where I is the abelian Chern-Simons action and t a formal constant. For oriented knotted vortex lines, tI satisfies the skein relations of the Kauffman R-polynomial; for un-oriented knotted lines, tI satisfies the skein relations of the Kauffman bracket polynomial. As an example the bracket polynomials of trefoil knots are computed, and the Jones polynomial is constructed from the bracket polynomial.  相似文献

In a conducting system consisting of a short fine wire carrying a current between two larges masses of the same metal, the maximum temperature attained depends only upon the properties of the material and the applied potential difference, provided the heat lost from the surface of the wire is negligible compared with that conducted. Measurement of the maximum temperature as a function of the potential difference allows the ratio of the thermal conductivityλ to the electrical conductivityχ, and hence the Lorenz numberλ/χ T whereT is the absolute temperature, to be determined over a wide range of temperature. Experiments with platinum in various gases at atmospheric pressure and also at low gas pressures to test the effect of heat losses due to the surrounding gas are described. Under the conditions of the experiments, these losses are very small except in the case of hydrogen, the results agreeing among themselves and with those previously published. Values of the Lorenz number for palladium from 1000 to 1550? C are given.  相似文献

Direct conversion of solar radiation into useful, storable and transportable chemical products is the primary goal of solar chemistry. In this paper we discuss some fundamental aspects of photochemistry at elevated temperatures. We show that luminescence can serve as an indicator of the potential use of a system as a photoconverter. As an example we present experimental data on the chemical potential and on the lifetime of the excited states of ZnO. The low luminescence quantum yield together with a lifetime of about 200 ps indicate that an efficient photochemical conversion on ZnO is highly improbable. We believe this to be a general feature of chemical systems based on a semiconductor photocatalyst, in particular of photoreactions at a solid/gas interface. The Skyrme-Faddeev-Niemi (SFN) model, which is an O(3) σ model in three dimensional space, upto fourth-order in the first derivative is regarded as a low-energy effective theory of SU(2) Yang-Mills theory. One can show from the Wilsonian renormalization group argument that the effective action of Yang-Mills theory recovers the SFN in the infrared region. However, the theory contains an additional fourth-order term which destabilizes the soliton solution. In this paper, we derive the second-derivative term perturbatively and show that the SFN model with the second-derivative term possesses soliton solutions. The electric strength of rocks (granite, limestone, and sandstone) for the first time has been measured under the simultaneous effect of the pressure up to 35 MPa and temperature up to 120°C in the system of rod-rod electrodes arranged on one sample surface and point-plane electrodes in the liquid medium of a drilling agent. With the simultaneous increase in pressure and temperature, the electric strength of rocks for point-plane electrodes continuously increases (especially rapidly in the pressure range of 10–24 MPa and temperature range of 35–85°C), while for rod-rod electrodes arranged on the same sample surface, the electric strength varies with a maximum at pressures of 5–12 MPa and temperatures 20–35°C.  相似文献

We investigate the breakdown of supersymmetry at finite temperature. While it has been proven that temperature always breaks supersymmetry, the nature of this breaking is less clear. On the one hand, a study of the Ward-Takahashi identities suggests a spontaneous breakdown of supersymmetry without the existence of a Goldstino, while on the other hand it has been shown that in any supersymmetric plasma there should exist a massless fermionic collective excitation, the phonino. Aim of this work is to unify these two approaches. For the Wess-Zumino model, it is shown that the phonino exists and contributes to the supersymmetric Ward-Takahashi identities in the right way displaying that supersymmetry is broken spontaneously with the phonino as the Goldstone fermion.  相似文献

We perform a quark model calculation of the quarkonia b and c spectra using smooth and sudden string breaking potentials. The screening parameter is scale dependent and can be related to an effective running gluon mass that has a finite infrared fixed point. A temperature dependence for the screening mass is motivated by lattice QCD simulations at finite temperature. Qualitatively different results are obtained for quarkonia properties close to a critical value of the deconfining temperature when a smooth or a sudden string breaking potential is used. In particular, with a sudden string breaking potential quarkonia radii remain almost independent of the temperature up to the critical point, only well above the critical point the radii increase significantly. Such a behavior will impact the phenomenology of quarkonia interactions in medium, in particular for scattering dissociation processes.  相似文献

The reactivity of six kerosene based control fuels, specifically formulated for cetane number variation, are investigated by measuring ignition delay time in a heated rapid compression machine. Cetane numbers vary from 30 to 55 (increment of 5) while holding other properties relatively constant by adjusting chemical group composition. Main cetane variation was controlled through the distribution of normal alkanes and isoalkanes, which was fine-tuned using additives. Other fuel properties such as density, viscosity, H/C ratio, etc. were balanced using cyclic compounds and aromatics. Fuels were tested in the RCM at compressed pressures of Pc=?10 and 20?bar, equivalence ratios of ??=?0.25, 0.5 and 1.0, in the low to intermediate temperature range (620?K?≤?Tc?≤?730?K). Relations between cetane number and ignition delay time have been evaluated at multiple test conditions, and further analysis on multistage ignition has been conducted. Ignition delay times of fuels with higher cetane numbers are shorter at these temperatures for most conditions. First stage ignition delay time measurements have been observed to be relatively insensitive to Pc, ?, and fuel type, while deviations in overall ignition delay times are mainly attributed to second stage ignition delay time, impacted by variations in the first stage temperature. Control fuels of this type offer an opportunity to be used in practical experiments to determine the impact of cetane number on combustion dynamics.  相似文献

We review non-perturbative static potentials commonly used in potential models for quarkonia at finite T. Potentials derived from Polyakov loop correlators are shown to be inappropriate for this purpose. The free energy is physical but has the wrong spatial decay and perturbative limit. The so-called singlet free energy is gauge dependent and unphysical. An appropriate static real time potential can be defined through a generalisation of pNRQCD to finite T. In perturbation theory, its real part reproduces the Debye-screened potential, its imaginary part accounts for Landau damping. Possibilities for its non-perturbative evaluation are discussed.  相似文献

Experimental results are reported for a unique spectroscopic device called the Plasma Spectroscopy Cell. Optical absorption of lithium metal vapor was observed at high density and temperature. Absorption spectra are analyzed using theoretical calculations of absorption cross sections for lithium-helium interactions, and singlet and triplet state transitions of diatomic lithium in the visible spectral range. This is believed to be the most complex example yet calculated in which absolute bound-bound, bound-free, free-bound, and free-free contributions for all possible optically allowed transitions are all included, in quite respectable agreement with experiment.  相似文献

Anomalous baryon number violation in the standard electroweak theory was first discussed by 't Hooft, who found it to be suppressed by a large factor exp(−8π2/g2) at zero temperature, due to a large energy barrier separating vacua with different baryon number. One might have expected that in the early Universe or in high-energy collisions, this process would become unsuppressed when the energies involved became comparable to the barrier height. We argue here that in both cases processes violating baryon number are likely to remain suppressed by a least the same zero-temperature factor.  相似文献

To study the effect of high temperatures on absorbing properties of fibrous metal materials, the calculations of effective density and effective bulk modulus are presented on basis of Dup‘ere’s model and Tarnow’s model. A modifying factor is presented to modify differences between real effective density and the effective density when the fibers regarded straight. The high temperatures effects on acoustic parameters are studied by thermodynamics theories and variable-property heat transfer. The surface specific acoustic impedances and normal incidence acoustic absorption coefficients are discussed theoretically. Finally, a measurement setup is built to verify the theoretical predictions. The experimental results fit the theoretical results well.  相似文献

Based on the thermodynamics statistic method, the improved variational perturbation theory and the modified quantum mechanics correction model have been used to calculate the equation of state of liquid helium at pressure from 0.7 to 108 GPa. The calculation results are in good agreement with the experimental data. The EXP-6 potential (α = 13.1) can more accurately describe the interaction of helium atoms than other potentials in the scheme. Finally, a comparison is shown between our interatomic potentials and other potentials.  相似文献

An accurate methodology is presented to measure photonic crystal emissivity using a direct method. This method addresses the issue of how to separate the emissions from the photonic crystal and the substrate. The method requires measuring two quantities: the total emissivity of the photonic crystal–substrate system, and the emissivity of the substrate alone. Our measurements have an uncertainty of 4% and represent the most accurate measure of a photonic crystal's emissivity. The measured results are compared to, and agree very well with, the independent emitter model.  相似文献
