Probe the R-Parity Violating Supersymmetry Effects in the B0s—B0s Mixing

The recent measurements of the B_s mass difference Δ M_s by the CDF and DO collaborations are roughly consistent with the Standard Model predictions, therefore, these measurements will afford an opportunity to constrain new physics scenarios beyond the Standard Model. We consider the impact of the R-parity violating supersymmetry in the B0s—B0s mixing, and use the latest experimental results of ΔM_s to constrain the size of the R-parity violating tree level couplings in the B0s—B0s mixing. Then, using the constrained RPV parameter space from ΔM_s, we show the R-parity violating effects on the B_s width difference ΔΓ_s.     

Track Reconstruction in the High Rate Environment of the HERA—B Spectrometer

In this paper a method of track reconstruction developed for the HERA-B main tracking system is discussed.The method based on a track following algorithm is used for track finding in the field-free area and for the track propagation through the inhomogeneous magnetic field.The performance of program for simulated and real data is shown.     

Rare Decay B→Xsvv in the Two—Higgs—Doublet Model of Type—Ⅲ

In this paper, we calculated the new physics contribution to theoretically very clean rare decay B→X_sνν in the general two-Higgs-doublet model (model III). Within the considered parameter space, we found that (a) the new physics contribution can provide one to two orders of enhancement to the branching ratio B(B→X_sνν) and can saturate the experimental bound on B(B→X_sνν) in some regions of the parameter space; (b) besides the CLEO data of B→X_sγ, the ALEPH upper limit on B(B→X_sνν) also leads to further constraint on the size of the Yukawa coupling λ_tt: λ_tt< 6.4 for λ_bb=2.7 and m_H⁺=200 GeV.     

Elasticity of the B2 phase and the effect of the B1–B2 phase transition on the elasticity of MgO

A study of the high-pressure anisotropy of MgO was conducted using first-principles calculations based on density functional theory within the generalized gradient approximations. The pressure dependence of the elastic stiffness coefficients and the anisotropy parameters, in both B1 and B2 phases, shows that for high-hydrostatic compression the easiest deformation is the shear along (100) plane and the the material's response to deformation and to shearing strains is quite the same. According to the calculations of the velocities of propagation of elastic waves, we deduced that MgO develop an elastic anisotropy, especially, in the B1 phase. We present the B2 phase elastic properties which are not already studied under high pressure.     

Impacts of the Soft—Gluon Exchanges on B→ππ Decays

We have investigated the role of soft-gluon exchanges in B→ππ,using the light-cone sum rules in quantum chromodynamics,The calculations are carried out not only for the tree operators but also for the penguin operators.We conclude that soft-gluon exchanges contribute to the decay amplitudes,noticeably on some decay channels,and thus cannot be neglected.     

Telecommunications—the state of the art

This article is a survey of the technological foundations of telecommunications, including both point-to-point electrical communication wing wires, cables and other guiding media. and radio wave broadcasting to many receivers via terrestrial transmitters or Earth-orbiting space satellites. The characteristics of analogue and digital telecommunication signals, the means available for their transmission and switching me described, together with the organization of local distribution, national and global networks. The various services that can be provided over such networks, including in addition to telephonic communication, audio and video conferencing, data and facsimile transmission and new vied-display data/information access services (Teletext) are outlined. Finally, the sociological implications of these technological and service developments me considered, for example in terms of their impact on urban and rural planning, where people live and work, and on energy economy by reducing the need to travel.     

On the Structure of the B¨acklund Transformations for the Relativistic Lattices

Abstract

The B¨acklund transformations for the relativistic lattices of the Toda type and their discrete analogues can be obtained as the composition of two duality transformations. The condition of invariance under this composition allows to distinguish effectively the integrable cases. Iterations of the B¨acklund transformations can be described in the terms of nonrelativistic lattices of the Toda type. Several multifield generalizations are presented.     

Analysis of the low—lying spectrum of the He—tetramer

There is a type of nodal surface imposed by symmetry on wavefunctions.These surfaces are crucial to the ordering of low-lying states.Based on an analysis of this type of surface and based on existing theoretical results,the feature of the low-lying spectrum of the He-tetramer is studied,and the candidates of bound states and narrow resonances are suggested.     

Conditional Analysis and Biorthogonal Decomposition of Plasma Turbulence in the CT—6B Tokamak

Coherent structures in the CT-6B tokamak plasma turbulence are detected by using conditional averaging.The results show that the coherent structures are short-lived and do not propagate in the radial direction.The biorthogonal decomposition technique is adopted to analyse further the coherent structure in the turbulence,The time evolution and spatial distribution of the coherent structures are obtained.

Tight—binding calculation of the electronic states of bulk—terminated GaAs（311）A and B surfaces

We have carried out theoretical investigations on the electronic structure of GaAs(311)A and GaAs(311)B surfaces. The bulk electronic structure of GaAs has been described by the second-neighbour tight-binding formalism and the surface electronic structure was evaluated via an analytic Green function method. First, we present the surface band structure together with the projected bulk band of both Ga-terminated and As-terminated for GaAs(311)A and GaAs(311)B surfaces, respectively. In each case, the number of surface states is determined, and the localized surface features and orbital properties of these surface states along Γ-Y-S-X-Γ high symmetry lines of the surface Brillouin zone are discussed. For the Ga-terminated GaAs(311)A (1×1) surface, we have tested two possible structure models, i.e. "the bridge site" and "the hollow site" models. In comparison with the angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy studied recently, the results have shown that the surface electronic states of the hollow site model are in good agreement with the experiments, whereas those of the bridge site model are not. So we have concluded that the hollow site model is favourable for the Ga-terminated GaAs(311) (1×1) surface and the bridge site model should be excluded.     

Six—Parameter Exponential—Type Potential and the Identity for the Exponential—Type Potentials

We propose a six-parameter exponential-type potential (SPEP),which has been shown to be a shapeinvariant potential with a translation of parameters.For this reducible potential,the exact energy levels are obtained by using the supersymmetric shape invariance technique.Choosing appropriate parameters,four classes of exponential-type potentials and their exact energy spectra are reduced from the SPEP and a general energy level formula,respectively.Each class shows the identity except for the different definitions of parameters.     

Direct search for dark matter—striking the balance—and the future

Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs) are among the main candidates for the relic dark matter (DM). The idea of the direct DM detection relies on elastic spin-dependent (SD) and spin-independent (SI) interaction of WIMPs with target nuclei. In this review paper the relevant formulae for WIMP event rate calculations are collected. For estimations of the WIMP-proton and WIMP-neutron SD and SI cross sections the effective low-energy minimal supersymmetric standard model is used. The traditional one-coupling-dominance approach for evaluation of the exclusion curves is described. Further, the mixed spin-scalar coupling approach is discussed. It is demonstrated, taking the high-spin ⁷³Ge dark matter experiment HDMS as an example, how one can drastically improve the sensitivity of the exclusion curves within the mixed spin-scalar coupling approach, as well as due to a new procedure of background subtraction from the measured spectrum. A general discussion on the information obtained from exclusion curves is given. The necessity of clear WIMP direct detection signatures for a solution of the dark matter problem, is pointed out.     

CATS：a Cellular Automation for Tracking in Silicon for the HERA—B Vertex Detector

A track reconstruction program CATS based on a cellular automaton has been developed for the vertex detector system of the HERA-B experiment at DESY,A segment model of the cellular automation used for tracking can be regarded as local discrete form of the Denby-Peterson neural net.Since 1999 CATS has been used to reconstruct data collected in HERA-B.Results on the tracking performance,and accuracy of estimates and computing time are presented.
