The aim of this paper is to present the analytical solutions corresponding to two types of unsteady unidirectional flows of a generalized Oldroyd-B fluid with fractional derivative between two parallel plates. The fractional calculus approach is used in solving the problems. The velocity distributions are determined by means of discrete Laplace transform and finite Fourier sine transform. The obtained results indicate that some well known solutions for the generalized second grade fluid, the generalized Maxwell fluid as well as the ordinary Oldroyd-B fluid appear as the limiting cases of the presented results.  相似文献

This work looks at the heat transfer effects on the flow of a second grade fluid over a radially stretching sheet. The axisymmetric flow of a second grade fluid is induced due to linear stretching of a sheet. Mathematical analysis has been carried out for two heating processes, namely (i) with prescribed surface temperature (PST case) and (ii) prescribed surface heat flux (PHF case). The modelled non-linear partial differential equations in two dependent variables are reduced into a partial differential equation with one dependent variable. The resulting non-linear partial differential equations are solved analytically using homotopy analysis method (HAM). The series solutions are developed and the convergence is properly discussed. The series solutions and graphs of velocity and temperature are constructed. Particular attention is given to the variations of emerging parameters such as second grade parameter, Prandtl and Eckert numbers.  相似文献

In the present investigation the exact analytical solutions for three fundamental flows namely the Couette, Poiseuille and generalized Couette are obtained. The resulting problems involve nonlinear equations and nonlinear boundary conditions. Finally the influence of the emerging parameters is discussed by plotting graphs.  相似文献

The influence of the non-Newtonian stress–strain relation of blood on the oscillatory shear index (OSI) and mean wall shear stress (WSS) are described. A mathematical non-dimensional model based on the momentum equation for a modified Casson’s fluid is formulated in terms of the dimensionless yield shear stress . An original direct numerical procedure is presented to predict the flow patterns. Results obtained by using a finite difference approach show a difference in OSI when blood is assumed to be a Newtonian fluid instead of a modified Casson’s fluid. The calculation of the OSI in human normal conditions under the Newtonian approach differs in 5% from the result obtained from using the Casson model.  相似文献

This paper deals with the study of the MHD flow of non-Newtonian fluid on a porous plate. Two exact solutions for non-torsionally generated unsteady hydromagnetic flow of an electrically conducting second order incompressible fluid bounded by an infinite non-conducting porous plate subjected to a uniform suction or blowing have been analyzed. The governing partial differential equation for the flow has been established. The mathematical analysis is presented for the hydromagnetic boundary layer flow neglecting the induced magnetic field. The effect of presence of the material constants of the second order fluid on the velocity field is discussed.  相似文献

Exact analytical solutions for the velocity profiles and flow rates have been obtained in explicit forms for the Poiseuille and Couette-Poiseuille flow of a third grade fluid between two parallel plates. These exact solutions match well with their numerical counter parts and are better than the recently developed approximate analytical solutions. Besides, effects of various parameters on the velocity profile and flow rate have been studied.  相似文献

An analysis based on the Galerkin method is developed to examine the behaviour of a nonlinear bipolar viscous fluid mathematically modelled by stochastic non-Newtonian fluid motion equations. Existence and uniqueness of solutions to the stochastic equations are derived.  相似文献

The unsteady Couette–Poiseuille flow of an electrically conducting incompressible non-Newtonian viscoelastic fluid between two parallel horizontal non-conducting porous plates is studied with heat transfer considering the Hall effect. A sudden uniform and constant pressure gradient, an external uniform magnetic field that is perpendicular to the plates and uniform suction and injection through the surface of the plates are applied. The two plates are kept at different but constant temperatures while the Joule and viscous dissipations are taken into consideration. Numerical solutions for the governing momentum and energy equations are obtained using finite difference approximations. The effect of the Hall term, the parameter describing the non-Newtonian behavior, and the velocity of suction and injection on both the velocity and temperature distributions is examined.  相似文献

This article presents a numerical algorithm using the Meshless Local Petrov-Galerkin (MLPG) method for the incompressible Navier–Stokes equations. To deal with time derivatives, the forward time differences are employed yielding the Poisson’s equation. The MLPG method with the moving least-square (MLS) approximation for trial function is chosen to solve the Poisson’s equation. In numerical examples, the local symmetric weak form (LSWF) and the local unsymmetric weak form (LUSWF) with a classical Gaussian weight and an improved Gaussian weight on both regular and irregular nodes are demonstrated. It is found that LSWF1 with a classical Gaussian weight order 2 gives the most accurate result.  相似文献

Current theoretical investigation of atherosclerotic arteries deals with mathematical models that represent non-Newtonian flow of blood through a stenosed artery in the presence of a transverse magnetic field. Here, the rheology of the flowing blood is characterised by a generalised Power law model. The distensibility of an arterial wall has been accounted for based on local fluid mechanics. A radial coordinate transformation is initiated to map cosine geometry of the stenosis into a rectangular grid. An appropriate finite difference scheme has been adopted to solve the unsteady non-Newtonian momentum equations in cylindrical coordinate system. Exploiting suitably prescribed conditions based on the assumption of an axial symmetry under laminar flow condition rendered the problem effectively to two dimensions. An extensive quantitative analysis has been performed based on numerical computations in order to estimate the effects of Hartmann number (MM), Power law index (nn), generalised Reynolds number (ReG)(ReG), severity of the stenosis (δ)(δ) on various parameters such as flow velocity, flux and wall shear stress by means of their graphical representations so as to validate the applicability of the proposed mathematical model. The present results agree with some of the existing findings in the literature.  相似文献

The effects of dependence on temperature of the viscosity and electric conductivity, Reynolds number and particle concentration on the unsteady MHD flow and heat transfer of a dusty, electrically conducting fluid between parallel plates in the presence of an external uniform magnetic field have been investigated using the network simulation method (NSM) and the electric circuit simulation program Pspice. The fluid is acted upon by a constant pressure gradient and an external uniform magnetic field perpendicular is applied to the plates. We solved the steady-state and transient problems of flow and heat transfer for both the fluid and dust particles. With this method, only discretization of the spatial co-ordinates is necessary, while time remains as a real continuous variable. Velocity and temperature are studied for different values of the viscosity and magnetic field parameters and for different particle concentration and upper wall velocity.  相似文献

The unsteady rotating flow of a Sisko fluid bounded by a suddenly moved infinite flat plate is investigated. The fluid is electrically conducting in the presence of a transverse applied time-dependent magnetic field. A highly non-linear differential equation resulting from the balance of momentum and mass, coupled with appropriate boundary and initial conditions is solved numerically. The numerical solutions for different values of the parameters are compared and discussed.  相似文献

This work is focused on the study of unsteady magnetohydrodynamics boundary-layer flow and heat transfer for a viscous laminar incompressible electrically conducting and rotating fluid due to a stretching surface embedded in a saturated porous medium with a temperature-dependent viscosity in the presence of a magnetic field and thermal radiation effects. The fluid viscosity is assumed to vary as an inverse linear function of temperature. The Rosseland diffusion approximation is used to describe the radiative heat flux in the energy equation. With appropriate transformations, the unsteady MHD boundary layer equations are reduced to local nonsimilarity equations. Numerical solutions of these equations are obtained by using the Runge–Kutta integration scheme as well as the local nonsimilarity method with second order truncation. Comparisons with previously published work have been conducted and the results are found to be in excellent agreement. A parametric study of the physical parameters is conducted and a representative set of numerical results for the velocity in primary and secondary flows as well as the local skin-friction coefficients and the local Nusselt number are illustrated graphically to show interesting features of Darcy number, viscosity-variation, magnetic field, rotation of the fluid, and conduction radiation parameters.  相似文献

The velocity fields corresponding to some flows of second grade and Maxwell fluids, induced by a circular cylinder subject to a constantly accelerating translation along its symmetry axis, are presented as Fourier-Bessel series in terms of the eigenfunctions of some suitable boundary value problems. These solutions satisfy both the associate partial differential equations and all imposed initial and boundary conditions. For α or λ → 0, they are going to those for a Newtonian fluid. Finally, for comparison, some diagrams corresponding to the solutions for the flow through a circular cylinder are presented for different values of t and of the material constants.  相似文献

The effects of Hall current and heat transfer on the rotating flow of a second grade fluid past a porous plate with variable suction are examined. The medium considered is porous and suction and external flow velocities vary periodically. The plate is assumed to be at a higher temperature than the fluid. The influences of the Hall parameter and porosity of the medium have been seen and discussed on the velocity and temperature profiles. Moreover, these influences have also been seen on the drag and lateral stress. Finally, the obtained solutions are also compared with the previous studies in the literature and found quite agreement.  相似文献

Two dimensional unsteady boundary layer equations of a general model of non-Newtonian fluids were investigated in this study. In this model, the shear stress is taken as an arbitrary function of the velocity gradient. Group classification of the equations with respect to shear stress is done using two different approaches: (1) classical theory (2) equivalence transformations. Both approaches yield identical results. It is found that the principle Lie Algebra extends only for cases of Newtonian and Power-Law flows.  相似文献

Analytical expressions for the velocity fields corresponding to the motions of an Oldroyd-B fluid due to oscillations of an infinite flat plate as well as those induced by an oscillating pressure gradient and pressure jumps are determined by means of the Fourier sine transform. The corresponding solutions for a Maxwell and a Newtonian fluid appear as limiting cases of the solutions established here. Relevant physical properties of the flows and their dependence on material and geometry parameters are discussed. (Received: August 16, 2005; revised: December 19, 2005)  相似文献

An analysis is presented for unsteady two-dimensional flow of a Maxwell fluid over a stretching surface in presence of a first order constructive/destructive chemical reaction. Using suitable transformations, the governing partial differential equations are converted to ordinary one and are then solved numerically by shooting method. The flow fields and mass transfer are significantly influenced by the governing parameters. Fluid velocity initially decreases with increasing unsteadiness parameter and concentration decreases significantly due to unsteadiness. The effect of increasing values of the Maxwell parameter is to suppress the velocity field. But the concentration is enhanced with increasing Maxwell parameter.  相似文献
