Two series of highly soluble novel nitrogen‐ and sulfur‐containing conjugated polymers were synthesized via an acid‐induced self‐polycondensation of functional monomers with methyl sulfinyl and aromatic groups. The well‐defined structures of synthesized polymers were confirmed by their NMR and IR spectra. The highest occupied molecular orbital energy values for these materials, estimated by cyclic voltammetry, showed a broad range of values from about 5.0 to 5.2 eV used as hole‐transport layers (HTL) in two‐layer light‐emitting diodes ITO/HTL/Alq3/Mg:Ag [ITO = indium tin oxide, and Alq3 = tris(8‐quinolinato) aluminum]. The typical turn‐on voltage of these diodes was about 4–5 V. The maximum brightness of the device was about 3440 cd/m2 at 20 V. The maximum efficiency was estimated to be 0.15 lm/W at 10 V. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 40: 1321–1333, 2002  相似文献

Novel photo‐crosslinkable hole‐transport and host materials incorporated into multilayer blue phosphorescent polymer light‐emitting diodes (Ph‐PLEDs) were demonstrated in this study. The oxetane‐containing copolymers, which function as hole‐transport layers (HTL), could be cured by UV irradiation in the presence of a cationic photoinitiator. The composition of the two monomers was varied to yield three different hole‐transporting copolymers, [Poly(9,9′‐(5‐(((4‐(7‐(4‐(((3‐methyloxetan‐3‐yl)methoxy)methyl)phenyl)octan‐3‐yl)benzyl)oxy)methyl)?1,3‐phenylene)bis(9H‐carbazole)) ( P(mCP‐Ox)‐I , ‐II , and ‐III )]. In addition, monomer 1 was copolymerized with styrene to produce copolymer P(mCP‐Ph) as a host material for bis[2‐(4,6‐difluorophenyl)pyridinato‐C2,N](picolinato)iridium(III) (FIrpic), a blue‐emitting dopant. All mCP‐based copolymers displayed high glass transition temperatures (Tg) of up to 130–140 °C and triplet energies of up to 3.00 eV. The blue Ph‐PLEDs exhibited a maximum external quantum efficiency of 2.55%, in addition to a luminous efficiency of 8.75 cd A?1 when using the device configuration of indium tin oxide/poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate)/ P(mCP‐OX)‐III / P(mCP‐Ph) :FIrpic(15 wt %)/3,3′‐[5′‐[3‐(3‐pyridinyl)phenyl][1,1′:3′,1′′‐terphenyl]‐3,3′′‐diyl]bispyridine/LiF/Al. The device bearing P(mCP‐Ox)‐III HTL, containing the highest composition of mCP unit, exhibited better performance than the other devices, which is attributed to induction of more balanced charge carriers and carrier recombination in the emissive layer. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of novel styrene derived monomers with triphenylamine‐based units, and their polymers have been synthesized and compared with the well‐known structure of polymer of N,N′‐bis(3‐methylphenyl)‐N,N′‐diphenylbenzidine with respect to their hole‐transporting behavior in phosphorescent polymer light‐emitting diodes (PLEDs). A vinyltriphenylamine structure was selected as a basic unit, functionalized at the para positions with the following side groups: diphenylamine, 3‐methylphenyl‐aniline, 1‐ and 2‐naphthylamine, carbazole, and phenothiazine. The polymers are used in PLEDs as host polymers for blend systems with the following device configuration: glass/indium–tin–oxide/PEDOT:PSS/polymer‐blend/CsF/Ca/Ag. In addition to the hole‐transporting host polymer, the polymer blend includes a phosphorescent dopant [Ir(Me‐ppy)3] and an electron‐transporting molecule (2‐(4‐biphenyl)‐5‐(4‐tert‐butylphenyl)‐1,3,4‐oxadiazole). We demonstrate that two polymers are excellent hole‐transporting matrix materials for these blend systems because of their good overall electroluminescent performances and their comparatively high glass transition temperatures. For the carbazole‐substituted polymer (Tg = 246 °C), a luminous efficiency of 35 cd A?1 and a brightness of 6700 cd m?2 at 10 V is accessible. The phenothiazine‐functionalized polymer (Tg = 220 °C) shows nearly the same outstanding PLED behavior. Hence, both these polymers outperform the well‐known polymer of N,N′‐bis(3‐methylphenyl)‐N,N′‐diphenylbenzidine, showing only a luminous efficiency of 7.9 cd A?1 and a brightness of 2500 cd m?2 (10 V). © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Conjugated polymers containing electron‐transporting, hole‐transporting, and blue light‐emitting units were synthesized by Suzuki polycondensation. These copolymers exhibited excellent thermal and optical stability. Optical investigation indicated that the incorporation of the spirobifluorene units in the polymer main chain could markedly increase the effective conjugation length of polymers. Electrochemical studies showed that the incorporation of spirobifluorene unit could raise the electrochemical stability and improve the electron‐ and hole‐injecting abilities. The electroluminescent results also showed that the introducing of spirobifluorene units could significantly improve the device performance. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of light‐emitting hyperbranched poly(arylene ethynylene)s (HB‐PAEs) were prepared by the Sonogashira coupling from bisethynyl of carbazole, fluorene, or dialkoxybenzenes (A2 type) and tris(4‐iodophenyl)amine (B3 type). For comparison, two linear polymers (L‐PAEs) of the HB analogs were also synthesized. The polymers were characterized by Fourier transform infrared, NMR, and GPC. The HB polymers showed excellent solubility in chloroform, THF, and chlorobenzene when compared with their linear analogs. The number‐average molecular weight (Mn) of the polymers determined from GPC was found to be in the range of 18,600–34,200. The polymers were thermally stable up to 298–330 °C with only 5% weight loss. The absorption maxima of the polymers were between 354 and 411 nm with optical band gap in the range of 2.5–2.9 eV. The HB polymers were found to be highly fluorescent with photoluminescence quantum yields around 33–42%. The highest occupied molecular orbital energy levels of the polymers calculated from onset oxidation potentials were found to be in the range from ?5.83 to ?6.20 eV. Electroluminescence (EL) properties of three HB‐PAEs and one L‐PAE were investigated with device configuration ITO/PEDOT:PSS/Polymer/LiF/Al. The EL maxima of HB‐PAEs were found to be in the range of 507–558 nm with turn‐on voltages around 7.5–10 V and maximum brightness values of 316–490 cd/m2. At the same time, linear analog of one HB‐PAE was found to show a maximum brightness of 300 cd/m2 at a turn‐on voltage of 8.2 V. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We report on photocrosslinkable hole‐transport polymers and their use as photodefinable hole‐transport layers in organic light‐emitting diodes. The polymers were obtained by copolymerization of bis(diarylamino)biphenyl‐based acrylate monomers with cinnamate‐functionalized acrylate moieties. Polymers with a range of redox potentials were obtained by varying the substitution patterns of the bis(diarylamino)biphenyl units. The 2 + 2 cycloaddition of the cinnamate moieties following UV irradiation renders the material insoluble. This allows for patterning of the polymer and simultaneously enables the fabrication of multilayer structures from solution. Hole mobilities were measured in these copolymers with the time‐of‐flight technique. Their performance as hole‐transport layers in light‐emitting diodes, with tris(8‐hydroxyquinolinato)aluminum as the emitter and electron‐transport layer, is evaluated. Electroluminescent devices with multiple hole‐transport layers having different ionization potentials were fabricated from solution, and the quantum efficiency of these devices was greater than that for devices based on a single hole‐transport layer. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We synthesized new polynorbornene dicarboximide (PCaNI) functionalized with hole‐transporting carbazole moieties and its copolymer (PCaNA) by ring‐opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP), where the PCaNA was further reacted with 3‐amino‐triethoxysilane to prepare PCaNI/silica hybrid. We also investigated the feasibility of PCaNI and PCaNI/silica hybrid (PCaSi) as a hole‐transporting material for hybrid organic light emitting devices (HOLEDs). To improve the performance of the PCaNI‐based HOLEDs, N,N′‐diphenyl‐N,N′‐(3‐methylphenyl)‐[1,1′‐biphenyl]‐4‐4′‐diamine (TPD) was also introduced into the PCaNI matrix. Results showed that PCaNI exhibited high glass transition temperature (~260 °C) and high optical transparency in the visible region. The highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) of PCaNI were measured as 5.6 and 2.2 eV, while the TPD‐doped PCaNI showed 5.7 eV (HOMO) and 2.6 eV (LUMO). The PCaNI/silica hybrid nanolayers showed excellent solvent resistance due to the formation of covalent bonds between ITO and PCaNI. The HOLEDs with PCaNI/TPD or PCaSi/TPD hybrid nanolayers exhibited relatively higher luminance (~10,000 cd/m2), lower operating voltage (~6.5 V at 300 cd/m2), and higher current efficiency (~2.7 cd/A). © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of naphthyl‐substituted poly(p‐phenylenevinylene)s (2N‐PPV, 4N‐PPV, and NAP‐PPV) has been synthesized and characterized by Fourier transform IR, 1H NMR, and elemental analysis. The polymers possess excellent solubility, high molecular weights, good thermal stability, and high photoluminescence efficiencies. Thermogravimetric analysis reveals the onset of degradation to be 347, 301, and 306 °C for 2N‐PPV, 4N‐PPV, and NAP‐PPV, respectively. The differential scanning calorimetry investigation gives the respective glass‐transition temperature values of 118, 135, and 141 °C. The UV and photoluminescence spectra measurements reveal that the polymers exhibit similar optical properties, indicating that side‐chain substitution has little effect on the optical properties of this series of polymers. Proton NMR measurement of the signal due to tolane–bisbenzyl defects at around 2.7 ppm indicates that all the polymers have negligible amounts of tolane–bisbenzyl defects along the polymer main chain as a result of the steric bulk imposed by the naphthalene side chain. The highest occupied and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital energy levels of the polymers are investigated through cyclic voltammetry. Polymer light‐emitting diodes utilizing the polymers as the emissive layer with a configuration of indium tin oxide/poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene)/polymer/Ba/Al are fabricated and evaluated. The diodes emit blue‐green to yellow‐green light with maximum peaks at 518, 542, and 486 nm for 2N‐PPV, 4N‐PPV, and NAP‐PPV, respectively. The respective turn‐on electric fields of the diodes are 0.84, 0.69, and 0.83 MV/cm and the respective maximum external quantum efficiencies are 0.08, 0.54, and 0.02%. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new series of highly phenyl‐substituted polyfluorene derivatives were synthesized and characterized. The resulting polymers were amorphous and showed excellent solubility in common organic solvents, such as chloroform, tetrahydrofuran, xylene, toluene, chlorobenzene, and so forth. All possessed satisfied thermal stability with glass‐transition temperatures (Tg's) in the range of 79–115 °C. They emitted blue light with photoluminescent (PL) maximum peaks at about 408–412 nm in thin films. The PL efficiencies of the polymer films were measured around 30–33%. The highly phenylated pendants improved the Tg of polyfluorene without forming defects in the polymers and reduced their tendency to form aggregate/excimers. Polymer light‐emitting diodes were fabricated from these polymers with the configuration of indium tin oxide/polyethylenedioxythiophene:polystyrene sulfonic acid/polymer/Ba/Al, which emitted bright blue light with maximum peaks at 418–420 nm. The maximum external quantum efficiencies of these devices were 0.41–0.6%. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 42: 2985–2993, 2004  相似文献

Five new thermally robust electroluminescent fluorene‐based conjugated copolymers, including poly[2,7‐(9,9‐dioctylfluorene)‐co‐4,7‐{5,6‐bis(3,7‐dimethyloctyloxymethyl)‐2,1,3‐(benzothiadiazole)}] ( PFO‐P2C10BT ) were synthesized and used to fabricate the efficient polymer light‐emitting diodes (PLEDs). The glass transition temperatures of the polymers were found to be higher than that of poly(9,9‐dialkylfluorenes) and are in the range 113–165 °C. We fabricated PLEDs in indium‐tin oxide/PEDOT/light‐emitting polymer/cathode configurations using either double‐layer LiF/Al or triple‐layer Alq3/LiF/Al cathode structures. The new copolymers were found to have emission colors that vary from greenish blue (491 nm) to green (543 nm) depending on the copolymer composition. The maximum brightness and luminance efficiency of these PLEDs were found to be up to 5347 cd/m2 and 1.51 cd/A at 10 V, respectively. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Substituent‐induced electroluminescence polymers—poly[2‐(2‐dimethyldodecylsilylphenyl)‐1,4‐phenylenevinylene] [(o‐R3Si)PhPPV], poly[2‐(3‐dimethyldodecylsilylphenyl)‐1,4‐phenylenevinylene] [(m‐R3Si)PhPPV], and poly[2‐(4‐dimethyldodecylsilylphenyl)‐1,4‐phenylenevinylene] [(p‐R3Si)PhPPV]—were synthesized according to the Gilch polymerization method. The band gap and spectroscopic data were tuned by the dimethyldodecylsilyl substituent being changed from the ortho position to the para position in the phenyl side group along the polymer backbone. The weight‐average molecular weights and polydispersities were 8.0–96 × 104 and 3.0–3.4, respectively. The maximum photoluminescence wavelengths for (o‐R3Si)PhPPV, (m‐R3Si)PhPPV, and (p‐R3Si)PhPPV appeared around 500–530 nm in the green emission region. Double‐layer light‐emitting diodes with an indium tin oxide/poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene)/polymer/Al configuration were fabricated with these polymers. The turn‐on voltages and the maximum brightness of (o‐R3Si)PhPPV, (m‐R3Si)PhPPV, and (p‐R3Si)PhPPV were 6.5–8.7 V and 1986–5895 cd/m2, respectively. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. New white polymeric light‐emitting diodes from phosphorescent single polymer systems have been developed using a blue‐light‐emitting fluorene monomer copolymerized with a red‐light‐emitting phosphorescent dye, and end‐capped with a green‐light‐emission dye. All of the copolymers have good thermal stability with 5% weight loss temperatures at 380–413 °C and glass transition temperatures at 75–137 °C. We obtained white‐light‐emission devices by adjusting the molar ratio of the comonomers with a structure of indium tin oxide/poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene): poly(styrene sulfonic acid)/polyvinylcarbazole (PVK)/emission layer/Ca/Ag. The highest brightness in such a device configuration is 300 cd/m2 at a current density of 2900 A/m2 with high white color quality (Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of (0.33, 0.34)). © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of conjugated blue‐light‐emitting copolymers, PTC‐1 , PTC‐2 , and PTC‐3, comprised different ratios of electron‐withdrawing segments (spirobifluorene substituted with cyanophenyl groups) and electron‐donating segments (tricarbazole‐triphenylamines), has been synthesized. The structures of these polymers were characterized and their thermal, photophysical, electrochemical, and electroluminescence properties were measured. Incorporation of rigid spirobifluorene units into the copolymers led to blue‐shifted absorption peaks in dilute toluene solution. Cyclic voltammetric measurement indicated the bandgaps of the polymers were in the range of 2.77–2.94 eV. It was found that increasing cyanophenyl‐spirobifluorene content in the polymer backbone lowered both the HOMO and LUMO energy levels of the copolymers, which was beneficial for electron injection/transporting in the polymer layer of the device. OLED device evaluation indicated that all the polymers emitted sky blue to deep blue light when the pure polymers were used as the emissive layers in the devices with a configuration of ITO/PEDOT:PSS/polymers/CsF/Ca/Al. The devices have been optimized by doping 30 wt % PBD into the polymer layers. Among the doped devices, PTC‐2 showed the best performance with the turn‐on voltage of 3.0 V, maximum brightness of 7257 cd/m2, maximum current efficiency of 1.76 cd/A, and CIE coordinates of (0.15, 0.14). © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel conjugated polyfluorene copolymers, poly[9,9‐dihexylfluorene‐2,7‐diyl‐co‐(2,5‐bis(4′‐diphenylaminostyryl)‐phenylene‐1,4‐diyl)]s (PGs), have been synthesized by nickel(0)‐mediated polymerization from 2,7‐dibromo‐9,9‐dihexylfluorene and 1,4′‐dibromo‐2,5‐bis(4‐diphenylaminostyryl)benzene with various molar ratios of the monomers. Because of the incorporation of triphenylamine (TPA) moieties, PGs exhibit much higher HOMO levels than the corresponding polyfluorene homopolymers and are able to facilitate hole injection into the polymer layer from the anode electrode in light‐emitting diodes. Conventional polymeric light‐emitting devices with the configuration ITO/PEDOT:PSS/polymer/Ca/Al have been fabricated. A light‐emitting device produced with one of the PG copolymers (PG10) as the emitting layer exhibited a voltage‐independent and stable bluish‐green emission with color coordinates of (0.22, 0.42) at 5 V. The maximum brightness and current efficiency of the PG10 device were 3370 cd/m2 (at 9.6 V) and 0.6 cd/A, respectively. To realize a white polymeric light‐emitting diode, PG10 as the host material was blended with 1.0 wt % of a red‐light‐emitting polymer, poly[9,9‐dioctylfluorene‐2,7‐diyl‐alt‐2,5‐bis(2‐thienyl‐2‐cyanovinyl)‐1‐(2′‐ethylhexyloxy)‐4‐methoxybenzene‐5′,5′‐diyl] (PFR4‐S), and poly[2‐methoxy‐5‐(2′‐ethylhexyloxy)‐1,4‐phenylenevinylene] (MEH‐PPV). The device based on PG10:PFR4‐S showed an almost perfect pure white electroluminescence emission, with Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of (0.33, 0.36) at 8 V; for the PG10:MEH‐PPV device, the CIE coordinates at this voltage were (0.30, 0.40) with a maximum brightness of 1930 cd/m2. Moreover, the white‐light emission from the PG10:PFR4‐S device was stable even at different driving voltages and had CIE coordinates of (0.34, 0.36) at 6 V and (0.31, 0.35) at 10 V. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two PPV‐based bipolar polymers containing 1,3,4‐oxadiazole pendant groups were synthesized via the Gilch polymerization reaction for use in light‐emitting diodes (LEDs). The resulting polymers were characterized using 1H and 13C NMR, elemental analysis, DSC, and TGA. These polymers were found to be soluble in common organic solvents and are easily spin‐coated onto glass substrates, producing high optical quality thin films without defects. The electro‐optical properties of ITO/PEDOT/polymer/Al devices based on these polymers were investigated using UV‐visible, PL, and EL spectroscopy. The turn‐on voltages of the OC1Oxa‐PPV and OC10Oxa‐PPV devices were found to be 8.0 V. The maximum brightness and luminescence efficiency of the OC1Oxa‐PPV device were found to be 544 cd/m2 at 19 V and 0.15 cd/A, respectively. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We have synthesized a novel carrier‐transporting copolymer and a nonconjugated light‐emitting polymer. The carrier‐transporting copolymer has a triphenylamine moiety as a hole‐transporting unit and a triazine moiety as an electron‐transporting unit, both of which are located in the polymer side chain. The nonconjugated light‐emitting polymer has a perylene moiety, which acts as an emitting unit in the polymer side chain. These polymers are very soluble in most organic solvents, such as monochlorobenzene, tetrahydrofuran, chloroform, and benzene. A single‐layered electroluminescent device consisting of ITO/copolymer and emitting‐material 4‐(dicyanomethylene)‐2‐methyl‐6‐(4‐dimethylaminostyryl)‐4H‐pyran (DCM) or light‐emitting polymer)/Al mixtures exhibits maximum external quantum efficiency when the concentration of the emitting material is 30 wt %. The device emits red or blue light according to the emitting material. When CsF is used as the electron‐injecting material, the drive voltage decreases drastically to 7 V, and the highest quantum efficiency is 0.5%. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Carrier balance is essential to obtain efficient emission in polymer light‐emitting diodes (PLEDs). A new polymer 3P5O composed of alternating p‐terphenyl and tetraethylene glycol ether segments is designed and synthesized by the Suzuki coupling reaction and successfully employed as hole‐buffer layer to improve carrier balance. Multilayer PLEDs [ITO/PEDOT:PSS/ 3P5O /SY/LiF/Al], with Super Yellow (SY) as the emitting layer and 3P5O as the hole‐buffer layer, reveal maximum luminance (17,050 cd/m2) and maximum current efficiency (6.6 cd/A) superior to that without the hole‐buffer layer (10,017 cd/m2, 3.0 cd/A). Moreover, it also shows better performance than that using conventional BCP as hole‐blocking layer [ITO/PEDOT:PSS/SY/BCP/LiF/Al (80 nm): 13,639 cd/m2, 4.1 cd/A]. The performance enhancement has been attributed to hole‐buffering characteristics of 3P5O that results in improved carrier recombination ratio and wider carrier recombination region. Current results indicate that the 3P5O is a promising hole‐buffer polymer to enhance the performance of optoelectronic devices. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Fabrication of polymer light‐emitting diodes based on emission from the phosphorescent molecule fac‐tris(2‐phenylpyridine) iridium doped into a poly(N‐vinyl carbazole) host are reported. For single‐layered devices with magnesium‐silver cathodes, the luminance efficiency at 20 mA/cm2 was measured as 8.7 cd/A. This efficiency could be increased by over a factor of two by incorporation of evaporated small‐molecule layers into the device structure. Significant increases in device efficiency were also obtained without these evaporated layers by modification of the electrodes. Incorporation of 3,4‐poly(ethylene dioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate) at the anode improved the device efficiency but had little impact on drive voltage. Insertion of lithium fluoride at the cathode resulted in no improvement in performance for magnesium‐silver and aluminum cathodes, but a significant improvement was realized in efficiency and drive voltage for calcium‐aluminum cathodes. Excellent device performance was observed for all three cathode metals used in conjunction with cesium fluoride. Through optimization of the electrodes and emitter‐layer thickness, devices exhibiting efficiencies as high as 37.3 cd/A are realized. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. During the last decade, light‐emitting diodes (LEDs) have replaced incandescent, fluorescent, and neon lamps due to their ability to produce high luminosity at low currents and voltages. LEDs are currently encapsulated by thermally curable epoxy resins. However, long periods of curing at high temperature result in high consumption of energy and require stringent process control to avoid failure of the devices. In addition, the thermal cure results in yellowing of the encapsulant, which decreases the efficiency of the LED. In recent years, photoinitiated polymerization has received much interest as it congregates a wide range of economic and ecological benefits. Cationic photoinitiators, such as diaryliodonium salts, generate Brønsted acid in situ, which initiates polymerization. The process can be triggered on demand by irradiating the mixture with light. Results from the present research reveal that cycloaliphatic epoxy monomers, photoactivated with an iodonium salt and Camphorquinone, polymerize readily under visible light irradiation (470 nm) in the absence of external heating. The partial replacement of cycloaliphatic epoxy with aromatic diglycidyl ether of bisphenol‐A (DGEBA) is an effective means of improving the refractive index of the material and consequently the efficiency of the photoemission. Visible light polymerization of DGEBA pure proceeds at a slow rate; however, it is enhanced by the increase in temperature during the polymerization of the highly reactive cycloaliphatic monomer. From results obtained in the present research, it may be concluded that visible light polymerization of epoxy monomers is a promising route for the processing of LED encapsulants.
