In this paper, we use the combination of energy method and Fourier analysis to obtain the optimal time decay of the Boltzmann equation with frictional force towards equilibrium. Precisely speaking, we decompose the equation into macroscopic and microscopic partitions and perform the energy estimation. Then, we construct a special solution operator to a linearized equation without source term and use Fourier analysis to obtain the optimal decay rate to this solution operator. Finally, combining the decay rate with the energy estimation for nonlinear terms, the optimal decay rate to the Boltzmann equation with frictional force is established.  相似文献

This paper studies the existence, uniqueness and asymptotic behavior of the solution for a half-space linearized stationary Boltzmann equation with an external force term, in the case of a specified incoming distribution at the boundary and a given mass flux. Without the external force, the solution of the stationary Boltzmann equation has been proved to tend toward a constant state, which is independent of the space variable. Due to the presence of the external force, we show that the solution tends to some function which depends on the space variable.  相似文献

The Euler equations with frictional force have been extensively studied. Since the Boltzmann equation is closely related to the equations of gas dynamics, we study, in this paper, the Boltzmann equation with frictional force when the external force is proportional to the macroscopic velocity. It is shown that smooth initial perturbation of a given global Maxwellian leads to a unique global-in-time classical solution which approaches to the global Maxwellian time asymptotically. The analysis is based on the macro-micro decomposition for the Boltzmann equation introduced in Liu et al. [Energy method for the Boltzmann equation, Physica D 188 (3-4) (2004) 178-192] and Liu and Yu [Boltzmann equation: micro-macro-decompositions and positivity of shock profiles, Comm. Math. Phys. 246(1) (2004) 133-179] through energy estimates.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the non-cutoff Boltzmann equation for full-range interactions with potential force in the whole space. We establish the global existence and optimal temporal convergence rates of classical solutions to the Cauchy problem when initial data is a small perturbation of the stationary solution. The analysis is based on the time-weighted energy method building also upon the recent studies of the non-cutoff Boltzmann equation in [1–3, 15] and the non-cutoff Vlasov-Poisson-Boltzmann system [6].  相似文献

The dynamics of dilute electrons and plasma can be modeled by Vlasov-Poisson-Boltzmann equation, for which the equilibrium state can be a global Maxwellian. In this paper, we show that the rate of convergence to equilibrium is O(t−∞), by using a method developed for the Boltzmann equation without external force in [L. Desvillettes, C. Villani, On the trend to global equilibrium for spatially inhomogeneous kinetic systems: The Boltzmann equation, Invent. Math. 159 (2005) 245-316]. In particular, the idea of this method is to show that the solution f cannot stay near any local Maxwellians for long. The improvement in this paper is to handle the effect from the external force governed by the Poisson equation. Moreover, by using the macro-micro decomposition, we simplify the estimation on the time derivatives of the deviation of the solution from the local Maxwellian with same macroscopic components.  相似文献

The study of Cauchy problem of the Boltzmann equation is important in both theory and applications. Existence of global solutions to the equation and uniform stability of solutions in the absence of external force were introduced in the previous work on the Boltzmann equation. In this paper, we will investigate the uniform stability of solutions in L1 for the Cauchy problem of the Boltzmann equation when there is an external force for the case of soft potentials.  相似文献

This paper discusses the convergence of a new discrete‐velocity model to the Boltzmann equation. First the consistency of the collision integral approximation is proved. Based on this we prove the convergence of solutions for a modified model to renormalized solutions of the Boltzmann equation. In a numerical example, the solutions to the discrete problems are compared with the exact solution of the Boltzmann equation in the space‐homogeneous case. In this paper, the Cauchy problem for the inelastic Boltzmann equation with external force is considered in the case of initial data with infinite energy. More precisely, under the assumptions on the bicharacteristic generated by external force, we prove the global existence of solution for small initial data compared to the local Maxwellian exp{–p|xv|2}, which has infinite mass and energy.  相似文献

We proposed a lattice Boltzmann model for the Rossler equation. Using a method of multiscales in the lattice Boltzmann model, we get the diffusion reaction as a special case. If the diffusion effect disappeared, we can obtain the lattice Boltzmann solution of the Rossler equation on the mesescopic scale. The numerical results show the method can be used to simulate Rossler equation.  相似文献

In this paper, we give the existence theory and the optimal time convergence rates of the solutions to the Boltzmann equation with frictional force near a global Maxwellian. We generalize our previous results on the same problem for hard sphere model into both hard potential and soft potential case. The main method used in this paper is the classic energy method combined with some new time–velocity weight functions to control the large velocity growth in the nonlinear term for the case of interactions with hard potentials and to deal with the singularity of the cross-section at zero relative velocity for the soft potential case.  相似文献

A new algorithm and acorresponding software package are developed that contain a fast tensor algorithm for the deterministic solution of the Boltzmann equation. The domain space discretisation performed with the Delaunay grid and the velocity space discretisation is performed with the tensor grid, and benefits with multilinear decomposition. This algorithm is also implemented for GPGPU processors, which allows to reach very high computational performance. The memory and complexity requirements are comparable with most Navier-Stockes solvers, however we solve the Boltzmann equation with chemical reactions. (© 2008 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. For the Boltzmann equation with an external force in the form of the gradient of a potential function in space variable, the stability of its stationary solutions as local Maxwellians was studied by S. Ukai et al. (2005) through the energy method. Based on this stability analysis and some techniques on analyzing the convergence rates to stationary solutions for the compressible Navier-Stokes equations, in this paper, we study the convergence rate to the above stationary solutions for the Boltzmann equation which is a fundamental equation in statistical physics for non-equilibrium rarefied gas. By combining the dissipation from the viscosity and heat conductivity on the fluid components and the dissipation on the non-fluid component through the celebrated H-theorem, a convergence rate of the same order as the one for the compressible Navier-Stokes is obtained by constructing some energy functionals.  相似文献

This paper analyzes the electroosmotic flow fields in heterogeneous microchannels by applying the lattice Poisson–Boltzmann equation. The influences of surface potential, ionic molar concentration, channel height, and driving force fields on fluid velocity are discussed in detail. A scheme for producing vortexes in a straight channel by adjusting the heterogeneous surface potentials and phase angles of the periodic driving force fields is introduced. By distributing the heterogeneous surface potentials at particular positions, we can create vortexes near walls or in the center of the channel. The size, strength, and rotational direction of vortexes are further variable by introducing appropriate phase angles for a single driving force field or for the phase differences between combined driving force fields, such as electric/pressure fields. These obstacle-like vortexes perturb fluids and hinder flow, and thus, may be useful for enhancing micromixer performance.  相似文献

It is shown in this paper that the Cauchy problem of the Boltzmann equation, with a cut-off soft potential and an initial datum close to a travelling Maxwellian, has a unique positive eternal solution. This eternal solution is exponentially decreasing at infinity for all t∈(−∞,∞), consequently the moments of any order are finite. This result gives a negative answer to the conjecture of Villani in the spatially inhomogeneous case.

It is known that the singularity in the non-cutoff cross-section of the Boltzmann equation leads to the gain of regularity and a possible gain of weight in the velocity variable. By defining and analyzing a non-isotropic norm which precisely captures the dissipation in the linearized collision operator, we first give a new and precise coercivity estimate for the non-cutoff Boltzmann equation for general physical cross-sections. Then the Cauchy problem for the Boltzmann equation is considered in the framework of small perturbation of an equilibrium state. In this part, for the soft potential case in the sense that there is no positive power gain of weight in the coercivity estimate on the linearized operator, we derive some new functional estimates on the nonlinear collision operator. Together with the coercivity estimates, we prove the global existence of classical solutions for the Boltzmann equation in weighted Sobolev spaces.  相似文献

In this paper,we applied the Painlevé property test on Krook‐Wu model of the nonlinear Boltzmann equation (p = 1). As a result, by using Bäcklund transformation, we obtained three solutions two of them were known earlier, while the third one is new and more general, we have also two reductions one of them is Abel's equation. Also, Lie‐group method is applied to the (p + 1)th Boltzmann equation. The complete Lie algebra of infinitesimal symmetries is established. Three nonequivalent sub‐algebraic of the complete Lie algebra are used to investigate similarity solutions and similarity reductions in the form of nonlinear ordinary equations for (p + 1)th Boltzmann equation; we obtained two general solutions for (p + 1)th Boltzmann equation and new solutions for Krook‐Wu model of Boltzmann equation (p = 1). The motivation for this paper is to solve a model based on the dynamics of electrons in a plasma using a simplified Boltzmann equation. Such problems have arisen in active plasma resonance spectroscopy, which is used for plasma diagnostic techniques; see Braithwaite and Franklin (2009) [1]. We propose a modified iterative splitting approach to solve the Boltzmann equations as a system of integro-differential equations. To enable solution by fast and iterative computations, we first transform the integro-differential equations into second order differential equations. Second, we split each second order differential equations into two first order differential equations via a splitting approach. We carry out an error analysis of the higher order iterative approach. Numerical experiments with a simplified Boltzmann equation will be discussed, along with the benefits of computing with this splitting approach.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

We prove the appearance of an explicit lower bound on the solution to the full Boltzmann equation in the torus for a broad family of collision kernels including in particular long-range interaction models, under the assumption of some uniform bounds on some hydrodynamic quantities. This lower bound is independent of time and space. When the collision kernel satisfies Grad's cutoff assumption, the lower bound is a global Maxwellian and its asymptotic behavior in velocity is optimal, whereas for noncutoff collision kernels the lower bound we obtain decreases exponentially but faster than the Maxwellian. Our results cover solutions constructed in a spatially homogeneous setting, as well as small-time or close-to-equilibrium solutions to the full Boltzmann equation in the torus. The constants are explicit and depend on the a priori bounds on the solution.  相似文献
