Given a simple plane graph G, an edge‐face k‐coloring of G is a function ? : E(G) ∪ F(G) → {1,…,k} such that, for any two adjacent or incident elements a, bE(G) ∪ F(G), ?(a) ≠ ?(b). Let χe(G), χef(G), and Δ(G) denote the edge chromatic number, the edge‐face chromatic number, and the maximum degree of G, respectively. In this paper, we prove that χef(G) = χe(G) = Δ(G) for any 2‐connected simple plane graph G with Δ (G) ≥ 24. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Graph Theory  相似文献

A sequence r1, r2, …, r2n such that ri=rn+ i for all 1≤in is called a repetition. A sequence S is called non‐repetitive if no block (i.e. subsequence of consecutive terms of S) is a repetition. Let G be a graph whose edges are colored. A trail is called non‐repetitive if the sequence of colors of its edges is non‐repetitive. If G is a plane graph, a facial non‐repetitive edge‐coloring of G is an edge‐coloring such that any facial trail (i.e. a trail of consecutive edges on the boundary walk of a face) is non‐repetitive. We denote π′f(G) the minimum number of colors of a facial non‐repetitive edge‐coloring of G. In this article, we show that π′f(G)≤8 for any plane graph G. We also get better upper bounds for π′f(G) in the cases when G is a tree, a plane triangulation, a simple 3‐connected plane graph, a hamiltonian plane graph, an outerplanar graph or a Halin graph. The bound 4 for trees is tight. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Graph Theory 66: 38–48, 2010  相似文献

An acyclic edge coloring of a graph is a proper edge coloring such that there are no bichromatic cycles. The acyclic chromatic index of a graph is the minimum number k such that there is an acyclic edge coloring using k colors and is denoted by a′(G). It was conjectured by Alon, Sudakov, and Zaks that for any simple and finite graph G, a′(G)?Δ + 2, where Δ=Δ(G) denotes the maximum degree of G. We prove the conjecture for connected graphs with Δ(G)?4, with the additional restriction that m?2n?1, where n is the number of vertices and m is the number of edges in G. Note that for any graph G, m?2n, when Δ(G)?4. It follows that for any graph G if Δ(G)?4, then a′(G)?7. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Graph Theory 61: 192–209, 2009  相似文献

Given a graph G, a total k‐coloring of G is a simultaneous coloring of the vertices and edges of G with at most k colors. If Δ(G) is the maximum degree of G, then no graph has a total Δ‐coloring, but Vizing conjectured that every graph has a total (Δ + 2)‐coloring. This Total Coloring Conjecture remains open even for planar graphs. This article proves one of the two remaining planar cases, showing that every planar (and projective) graph with Δ ≤ 7 has a total 9‐coloring by means of the discharging method. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Let G be a planar graph and let g(G) and Δ(G) be its girth and maximum degree, respectively. We show that G has an edge‐partition into a forest and a subgraph H so that (i) Δ(H) ≤ 4 if g(G) ≥ 5; (ii) Δ(H) ≤ 2 if g(G) ≥ 7; (iii) Δ(H)≤ 1 if g(G) ≥ 11; (iv) Δ(H) ≤ 7 if G does not contain 4‐cycles (though it may contain 3‐cycles). These results are applied to find the following upper bounds for the game coloring number colg(G) of a planar graph G: (i) colg(G) ≤ 8 if g(G) ≥ 5; (ii) colg(G)≤ 6 if g(G) ≥ 7; (iii) colg(G) ≤ 5 if g(G) ≥ 11; (iv) colg(G) ≤ 11 if G does not contain 4‐cycles (though it may contain 3‐cycles). © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. An acyclic edge‐coloring of a graph is a proper edge‐coloring such that the subgraph induced by the edges of any two colors is acyclic. The acyclic chromatic index of a graph G is the smallest number of colors in an acyclic edge‐coloring of G. We prove that the acyclic chromatic index of a connected cubic graph G is 4, unless G is K4 or K3,3; the acyclic chromatic index of K4 and K3,3 is 5. This result has previously been published by Fiam?ík, but his published proof was erroneous.  相似文献

Let k be a positive integer. An adjacent vertex distinguishing (for short, AVD) total-k-coloring of a graph G is a proper total-k-coloring of G such that any two adjacent vertices have different color sets, where the color set of a vertex v contains the color of v and the colors of its incident edges. It was conjectured that any graph with maximum degree Δ has an AVD total-(Δ+3)-coloring. The conjecture was confirmed for any graph with maximum degree at most 4 and any planar graph with maximum degree at least 10. In this paper, we verify the conjecture for all planar graphs with maximum degree at least 9. Moreover, we prove that any planar graph with maximum degree at least 10 has an AVD total-(Δ+2)-coloring and the bound Δ+2 is sharp.  相似文献

An acyclic vertex coloring of a graph is a proper vertex coloring such that there are no bichromatic cycles. The acyclic chromatic number of G, denoted a(G), is the minimum number of colors required for acyclic vertex coloring of graph G. For a family F of graphs, the acyclic chromatic number of F, denoted by a(F), is defined as the maximum a(G) over all the graphs GF. In this paper we show that a(F)=8 where F is the family of graphs of maximum degree 5 and give a linear time algorithm to achieve this bound.  相似文献

An r-dynamic k-coloring of a graph G is a proper k-coloring such that for any vertex v, there are at least min{r,degG(v)} distinct colors in NG(v). The r-dynamic chromatic numberχrd(G) of a graph G is the least k such that there exists an r-dynamic k-coloring of G. The listr-dynamic chromatic number of a graph G is denoted by chrd(G).Recently, Loeb et al. (0000) showed that the list 3-dynamic chromatic number of a planar graph is at most 10. And Cheng et al. (0000) studied the maximum average condition to have χ3d(G)4,5, or 6. On the other hand, Song et al. (2016) showed that if G is planar with girth at least 6, then χrd(G)r+5 for any r3.In this paper, we study list 3-dynamic coloring in terms of maximum average degree. We show that ch3d(G)6 if mad(G)<187, ch3d(G)7 if mad(G)<145, and ch3d(G)8 if mad(G)<3. All of the bounds are tight.  相似文献

Let G(V, E) be a graph. A k-adjacent vertex-distinguishing equatable edge coloring of G, k-AVEEC for short, is a proper edge coloring f if (1) C(u)≠C(v) for uv ∈ E(G), where C(u) = {f(uv)|uv ∈ E}, and (2) for any i, j = 1, 2,… k, we have ||Ei| |Ej|| ≤ 1, where Ei = {e|e ∈ E(G) and f(e) = i}. χáve (G) = min{k| there exists a k-AVEEC of G} is called the adjacent vertex-distinguishing equitable edge chromatic number of G. In this paper, we obtain the χáve (G) of some special graphs and present a conjecture.  相似文献

Given a “forbidden graph” F and an integer k, an F‐avoiding k‐coloring of a graph G is a k‐coloring of the vertices of G such that no maximal F‐free subgraph of G is monochromatic. The F‐avoiding chromatic number acF(G) is the smallest integer k such that G is F‐avoiding k‐colorable. In this paper, we will give a complete answer to the following question: for which graph F, does there exist a constant C, depending only on F, such that acF(G) ? C for any graph G? For those graphs F with unbounded avoiding chromatic number, upper bounds for acF(G) in terms of various invariants of G are also given. A plane graph G is coupled k‐choosable if, for any list assignment L satisfying for every , there is a coloring that assigns to each vertex and each face a color from its list such that any two adjacent or incident elements receive distinct colors. We prove that every plane graph is coupled 7‐choosable. We further show that maximal plane graphs, ‐minor free graphs, and plane graphs with maximum degree at most three are coupled 6‐choosable. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A coloring of a graph G is injective if its restriction to the neighbour of any vertex is injective. The injective chromatic number Xi(G) of a graph G is the leastk such that there is an injective k-coloring. In this paper, we prove that for each planar graph with g5 and Δ(G)20, χi(G)Δ(G)+3.  相似文献

A proper edge-k-coloring of a graph G is a mapping from E(G) to {1, 2,..., k} such that no two adjacent edges receive the same color. A proper edge-k-coloring of G is called neighbor sum distinguishing if for each edge uv ∈ E(G), the sum of colors taken on the edges incident to u is different from the sum of colors taken on the edges incident to v. Let χ_Σ'(G) denote the smallest value k in such a coloring of G. This parameter makes sense for graphs containing no isolated edges(we call such graphs normal). The maximum average degree mad(G) of G is the maximum of the average degrees of its non-empty subgraphs. In this paper, we prove that if G is a normal subcubic graph with mad(G) 5/2,then χ_Σ'(G) ≤ 5. We also prove that if G is a normal subcubic graph with at least two 2-vertices, 6 colors are enough for a neighbor sum distinguishing edge coloring of G, which holds for the list version as well.  相似文献
