Kadison and Kastler introduced a metric on the set of all C*-algebras on a fixed Hilbert space. In this paper structural properties of C*-algebras which are close in this metric are examined. Our main result is that the property of having a positive answer to Kadison’s similarity problem transfers to close C*-algebras. In establishing this result we answer questions about closeness of commutants and tensor products when one algebra satisfies the similarity property. We also examine K-theory and traces of close C*-algebras, showing that sufficiently close algebras have isomorphic Elliott invariants when one algebra has the similarity property.  相似文献

We prove that matrix algebras over a Rickart C*-algebra are also Rickart C*-algebras. As a consequence of this, every Rickart C*-algebra is an UMF-algebra and satisfies polar decomposition.  相似文献

The paper aims at developing a theory of nuclear (in the topological algebraic sense) pro-C*-algebras (which are inverse limits of C*-algebras) by investigating completely positive maps and tensor products. By using the structure of matrix algebras over a pro-C*-algebra, it is shown that a unital continuous linear map between pro-C*-algebrasA andB is completely positive iff by restriction, it defines a completely positive map between the C*-algebrasb(A) andb(B) consisting of all bounded elements ofA andB. In the metrizable case,A andB are homeomorphically isomorphic iff they are matricially order isomorphic. The injective pro-C*-topology α and the projective pro-C*-topology v on A⊗B are shown to be minimal and maximal pro-C*-topologies; and α coincides with the topology of biequicontinous convergence iff eitherA orB is abelian. A nuclear pro-C*-algebraA is one that satisfies, for any pro-C*-algebra (or a C*-algebra)B, any of the equivalent requirements; (i) α =v onA ⊗B (ii)A is inverse limit of nuclear C*-algebras (iii) there is only one admissible pro-C*-topologyon A⊗B (iv) the bounded partb(A) ofA is a nuclear C⊗-algebra (v) any continuous complete state map A→B* can be approximated in simple weak* convergence by certain finite rank complete state maps. This is used to investigate permanence properties of nuclear pro-C*-algebras pertaining to subalgebras, quotients and projective and inductive limits. A nuclearity criterion for multiplier algebras (in particular, the multiplier algebra of Pedersen ideal of a C*-algebra) is developed and the connection of this C*-algebraic nuclearity with Grothendieck’s linear topological nuclearity is examined. A σ-C*-algebraA is a nuclear space iff it is an inverse limit of finite dimensional C*-algebras; and if abelian, thenA is isomorphic to the algebra (pointwise operations) of all scalar sequences.  相似文献

We consider extension algebras of unital purely infinite simple C*-algebras by purely infinite simple stable C*-algebras. K-theory of such extension algebras is described.  相似文献

We prove that a graph C *-algebra with exactly one proper nontrivial ideal is classified up to stable isomorphism by its associated six-term exact sequence in K-theory. We prove that a similar classification also holds for a graph C *-algebra with a largest proper ideal that is an AF-algebra. Our results are based on a general method developed by the first named author with Restorff and Ruiz. As a key step in the argument, we show how to produce stability for certain full hereditary subalgebras associated to such graph C *-algebras. We further prove that, except under trivial circumstances, a unique proper nontrivial ideal in a graph C *-algebra is stable.  相似文献

We show that the Riesz interpolation property of the K 0-monoid of C*-algebras in the class Ω is inherited by simple unital C*-algebras in the class TAΩ, and the property of being an admissible target algebras of finite type in the class of Ω is inherited by unital C*-algebras in the class TAΩ.  相似文献

We develop the method introduced previously, to construct infinitesimal generators on locally compact group C *-algebras and on tensor product of C *-algebras. It is shown in particular that there is a C * -algebra A such that the C *-tensor product of A and an arbitrary C *-algebra B can have a non-approximately inner strongly one parameter group of *-automorphisms.  相似文献

Extending the notion of property T of finite von Neumann algebras to general von Neumann algebras, we define and study in this paper property T** for (possibly non-unital) C* -algebras. We obtain several results of property T** parallel to those of property T for unital C* -algebras. Moreover, we show that a discrete group Γ has property T if and only if the group C* -algebra Cr* (Γ) (or equivalently, the reduced group C* -algebra Cr* (Γ)) has property T**. We also show that the compact operators K(l2 ) has property T** but c0 does not have property T**.  相似文献

The N-Isometric Isomorphisms in Linear N-Normed C^*-Algebras   总被引:3,自引:3,他引:0
We prove the Hyers-Ulam stability of linear N-isometries in linear N-normed Banach mod- ules over a unital C^*-algebra. The main purpose of this paper is to investigate N-isometric C^*-algebra isomorphisms between linear N-normed C^*-algebras, N-isometric Poisson C^*-algebra isomorphisms between linear N-normed Poisson C^*-algebras, N-isometric Lie C^*-algebra isomorphisms between linear N-normed Lie C^*-algebras, N-isometric Poisson JC^*-algebra isomorphisms between linear N-normed Poisson JC^*-algebras, and N-isometric Lie JC^*-algebra isomorphisms between linear N-normed Lie JC^*-algebras. Moreover, we prove the Hyers- Ulam stability of t:heir N-isometric homomorphisms.  相似文献

In this paper aK-theoretic classification is given of the simple real rank zeroC*-algebras that can be expressed as inductive limits of sequences of finite direct sums of matrix algebras over finite connected graphs (possibly with dimension drop). This class ofC*-algebras provides torsionK1. The special case that the graphs are intervals is due to Elliott.  相似文献

We say that a locally compact groupG hasT 1 primitive ideal space if the groupC *-algebra,C *(G), has the property that every primitive ideal (i.e. kernel of an irreducible representation) is closed in the hull-kernel topology on the space of primitive ideals ofC *(G), denoted by PrimG. This means of course that every primitive ideal inC *(G) is maximal. Long agoDixmier proved that every connected nilpotent Lie group hasT 1 primitive ideal space. More recentlyPoguntke showed that discrete nilpotent groups haveT 1 primitive ideal space and a few month agoCarey andMoran proved the same property for second countable locally compact groups having a compactly generated open normal subgroup. In this note we combine the methods used in [3] with some ideas in [9] and show that for nilpotent locally compact groupsG, having a compactly generated open normal subgroup, closed prime ideals inC *(G) are always maximal which implies of course that PrimG isT 1.  相似文献

In the paper, we consider the question as to whether a unital full amalgamated free product of quasidiagonal C*-algebras is itself quasidiagonal. We give a sufficient condition for a unital full amalgamated free product of quasidiagonal C*-algebras with amalgamation over a finite-dimensional C*-algebra to be quasidiagonal. By applying this result, we conclude that the unital full free product of two AF algebras with amalgamation over a finite-dimensional C*-algebra is AF if there exists a faithful tracial state on each of the two AF algebras such that the restrictions of these states to the common subalgebra coincide.  相似文献

In this paper, we first continue our study of group duality, and prove that the duality we established earlier is natural. Then we use this naturality to study the category of commutative, cocommutative HopfC *-algebras, and show that the category of compact Abelian semigroups and the category of commutative, cocommutative HopfC *-algebras with units are isomorphic. By using this result, we show that the category of commutative, cocommutative quantum groups is Abelian. This is a generalization of a result of Grothendieck about the catrgory of finite-dimensional commutative, cocommutative Hopf algebras with antipodes.  相似文献

In this paper we study C*-algebras generated by a commuting family of isometric operators. Such algebras naturally generalize the Toeplitz algebra. We investigate *-automorphisms and ideals of C*-algebras generated by semigroups.  相似文献

Our main result is the construction of an embedding ofC(T2) into an approximately finite-dimensionalC *-algebra which induces an injection onK 0(C(T2)). The existence of this embedding implies that Cech cohomology cannot be extended to a stable, continuous homology theory forC *-algebras which admits a well-behaved Chern character. Homotopy properties ofC *-algebras are also considered. For example, we show that the second homotopy functor forC *-algebras is discontinuous. Similar embeddings are constructed for all the rational rotation algebras, with the consequence that none of the rational rotation algebras satisfies the homotopy property called semiprojectivity.  相似文献

The aim of the present paper is to describe self-duality and C*-reflexivity of Hilbert A-modules ?? over monotone complete C*-algebras A by the completeness of the unit ball of ?? with respect to two types of convergence being defined, and by a structural criterion. The derived results generalize earlier results ofH. Widom [Duke Math. J. 23, 309-324, MR 17 # 1228] and W. L. Paschke [Trans. Amer. Mat. Soc. 182 , 443-468, MR 50 # 8087, Canadian J. Math. 26, 1272-1280, MR 57 # 10433]. For Hilbert C*-modules over commutative AW*-algebras the equivalence of the self-duality property and of the Kaplansky-Hilbert property is reproved, (cf. M. Ozawa [J. Math. Soc. Japan 36, 589-609, MR 85 # 46068]). Especially, one derives that for a C*-algebra A the A-valued inner product of every Hilbert A-module ?? can be continued to an A-valued inner product on it's A-dual Banach A-module ??' turning ??' to a self-dual Hilbert A-module if and only if A is monotone complete (or, equivalently, additively complete) generalizing a result of M. Hamana [Internat. J. Math. 3 (1992), 185 - 204]. A classification of countably generated self-dual Hilbert A-modules over monotone complete C*-algebras A is established. The set of all bounded module operators End ′(??) on self-dual Hilbert A-modules ?? over monotone complete C*-algebras A is proved again to be a monotone complete C*-algebra. Applying these results a Weyl-Berg type theorem is proved.  相似文献

In this paper, we study irreducible representations of regular limit subalgebras of AF-algebras. The main result is twofold: every closed prime ideal of a limit of direct sums of nest algebras (NSAF) is primitive, and every prime regular limit algebra is primitive. A key step is that the quotient of an NSAF algebra by any closed ideal has an AF C*-envelope, and this algebra is exhibited as a quotient of a concretely represented AF-algebra. When the ideal is prime, the C*-envelope is primitive. The GNS construction is used to produce algebraically irreducible (in fact n-transitive for all n1) representations for quotients of NSAF algebras by closed prime ideals. Thus the closed prime ideals of NSAF algebras coincide with the primitive ideals. Moreover, these representations extend to *-representations of the C*-envelope of the quotient, so that a fortiori these algebras are also operator primitive. The same holds true for arbitrary limit algebras and the {0} ideal.  相似文献

Some basic questions on ultraproducts of C~*-algebras and von Neumann al- gebras, including the relation to K-theory of C~*-algebras are considered.More specifically, we prove that under certain conditions, the K-groups of ultraproduct of C~*-algebras are iso- morphic to the ultraproduct of respective K-groups of C~*-algebras.We also show that the ultraproducts of factors of type Ⅱ_1 are prime,i.e.not isomorphic to any non-trivial tensor product.  相似文献
