The objective of this contribution is to develop an elastic-plastic-damage constitutive model for crystal grain and to incorporate it with two-scale finite element analyses based on mathematical homogenization method, in order to characterize the macroscopic tensile strength of polycrystalline metals. More specifically, the constitutive model for single crystal is obtained by combining hyperelasticity, a rate-independent single crystal plasticity and a continuum damage model. The evolution equations, stress update algorithm and consistent tangent are derived within the framework of standard elastoplasticity at finite strain. By employing two-scale finite element analysis, the ductile behaviour of polycrystalline metals and corresponding tensile strength are evaluated. The importance of finite element formulation is examined by comparing performance of several finite elements and their convergence behaviour is assessed with mesh refinement. Finally, the grain size effect on yield and tensile strength is analysed in order to illustrate the versatility of the proposed two-scale model.  相似文献

A strain gradient dependent crystal plasticity approach is used to model the constitutive behaviour of polycrystal FCC metals under large plastic deformation. Material points are considered as aggregates of grains, subdivided into several fictitious grain fractions: a single crystal volume element stands for the grain interior whereas grain boundaries are represented by bi-crystal volume elements, each having the crystallographic lattice orientations of its adjacent crystals. A relaxed Taylor-like interaction law is used for the transition from the local to the global scale. It is relaxed with respect to the bi-crystals, providing compatibility and stress equilibrium at their internal interface. During loading, the bi-crystal boundaries deform dissimilar to the associated grain interior. Arising from this heterogeneity, a geometrically necessary dislocation (GND) density can be computed, which is required to restore compatibility of the crystallographic lattice. This effect provides a physically based method to account for the additional hardening as introduced by the GNDs, the magnitude of which is related to the grain size. Hence, a scale-dependent response is obtained, for which the numerical simulations predict a mechanical behaviour corresponding to the Hall-Petch effect. Compared to a full-scale finite element model reported in the literature, the present polycrystalline crystal plasticity model is of equal quality yet much more efficient from a computational point of view for simulating uniaxial tension experiments with various grain sizes.  相似文献

The finite element method is used to numerically simulate localized necking in AA6111-T4 under stretching. The measured EBSD data (grain orientations and their spatial distributions) are directly incorporated into the finite element model and the constitutive response at an integration point is described by the single crystal plasticity theory. We assume that localized necking is associated with surface instability, the onset of unstable growth in surface roughening. It is demonstrated that such a surface instability/necking is the natural outcome of the present approach, and the artificial initial imperfection necessitated by the macroscopic M–K approach [Marciniak and Kuczynski (1967). Int. J. Mech. Sci. 9, 609–620] is not relevant in the present analysis. The effects of spatial orientation distribution, material strain rate sensitivity, texture evolution, and initial surface topography on necking are discussed. It is found that localized necking depends strongly on both the initial texture and its spatial orientation distribution. It is also demonstrated that the initial surface topography has only a small influence on necking.  相似文献

Crystal plasticity finite element analysis of cyclic deformation of compatible type FCC bicrystals are performed. The model specimen used in the analysis is a virtual FCC bicrystal with an isotropic elastic property; therefore, the effect of constraint due to elastic incompatibility does not appear. The results of the analysis show the strain-amplitude-dependence of both the organization of the GND structure and the stress–strain behavior. The calculated stress–strain curve with the largest strain amplitude shows additional cyclic hardening. The microscopic mechanisms of the strain-amplitude-dependent organization of the GND structure and additional cyclic hardening behavior are discussed in terms of the activation of secondary slip system(s). Finally, the effects of the elastic anisotropy, the lattice friction stress and the interaction between dislocations are also argued.  相似文献

The elastic/crystalline viscoplastic constitutive equation, based on a newly proposed hardening-softening evolution equation, is introduced into the dynamic-explicit finite element code “Itas-Dynamic.” In the softening evolution equation, the effective distance and the angle between each slip system of a crystal are introduced to elucidate the interaction between the slip systems, which causes a decrease of dislocation density. The polycrystal sheet is modeled by Voronoi polygons, which correspond to the crystal grains; and by the selected orientations, which can relate to the texture, they are assigned to the integration points of the finite elements. We propose a direct crystal orientation assignment method, which means that each integration point of finite element has an assigned orientation, and its orientation can be rotated independently. Therefore, this inhomogeneous polycrystal model can consider the plastic induced texture development and subsequent anisotropy evolution. The parameters of the constitutive equation are identified by uni-axial tension tests carried out on single crystal sheets. Numerical results obtained for sheet tensions are compared with experimental ones to confirm the validity of our finite element code. Further, we investigate the following subjects: (1) how the initial orientation of single crystal affects slip band formation and strain localization; (2) how the grain size and particular orientations of the grain affect the strain localization in case of a polycrystal sheet. It is confirmed that the orientation of a single crystal can be related to the primary slip system and the deformation induced activation of that system, which in turn can be related to the slip band formation of the single crystal sheet. Further, in case of a polycrystal sheet, the larger the grain size, the more the strain localizes at a specific crystal, which has the particular orientation. It is confirmed through comparisons with experiments that our finite element code can predict the localization of strain in sheets and consequently can estimate the formability of sheet metals.  相似文献

A micromechanical model using the scale transition method in elastoviscoplasticity has been developed to describe the behaviour of those austenitic steels that display a TWIP effect. A physically based constitutive equation at the grain scale is proposed considering two inelastic strain modes: crystallographic slip and twinning. The typical organizations of microtwins observed in electron microscopy are considered, and the twin–slip as well as the twin–twin interactions are accounted for. The parameters for slip are first fitted on the uniaxial tensile response obtained at intermediate temperatures (when twinning is inhibited). Then, the parameters associated with twinning are identified using the stress–strain curve at room temperature. The simulated results in both macro and micro scales are in good agreement with experimentally obtained results.  相似文献

Recently, a rate-independent, finite-deformation-based crystal mechanics constitutive model for martensitic reorientation and detwinning in shape-memory alloys has been developed by Thamburaja [Thamburaja, P., 2005. Constitutive equations for martensitic reorientation and detwinning in shape-memory alloys. Journal of the Mechanics and Physics of Solids 53, 825–856] and implemented in the ABAQUS/Explicit [Abaqus reference manuals. 2005. Providence, RI] finite-element program. In this work, we show that the aforementioned model is able to quantitatively predict the experimental response of an initially textured and martensitic polycrystalline Ti–Ni rod under a variety of uniaxial and multi-axial stress states. By fitting the material parameters in the model to the stress–strain response in simple tension, the constitutive model predicts the stress–strain curves for experiments conducted under simple compression, torsion, proportional-loading tension–torsion, and path-change tension–torsion loading conditions to good accord. Furthermore the constitutive model also reproduces the force–displacement response for an indentation experiment to reasonable accuracy.  相似文献

A new crystal plasticity model incorporating the mechanically induced martensitic transformation in metastable austenitic steel has been formulated and implemented into the finite element analysis. The kinetics of martensite transformation is modeled by taking into consideration of a nucleation-controlled phenomenon, where each potential martensitic variant based on Kurdjumov–Sachs (KS) relationship has different nucleation probability as a function of the interaction energy between externally applied stress and lattice deformation. Therefore, the transformed volume fractions are determined following selective variants given by the crystallographic orientation of austenitic matrix and applied stress in the frame of the crystal plasticity finite element. The developed finite element program is capable of considering the effect of volume change by the Bain deformation and the lattice-invariant shear during the martensitic transformation by effectively modifying the evolution of plastic deformation gradient of the conventional rate-dependent crystal plasticity finite element. The validation of the proposed model has been carried out by comparing with the experimentally measured data under simple loading conditions. Good agreements with the measurements for the stress–strain responses, transformed martensitic volume fractions and the influence of strain rate on the deformation behavior will enable the model to be promising for the future applications to the real forming process of the TRIP aided steel.  相似文献

The constitutive model for the unusual asymmetric hardening behavior of magnesium alloy sheet presented in a companion paper (Lee, M.G., Wagoner, R.H., Lee, J.K., Chung, K., Kim, H.Y., 2008. Constitutive modeling for anisotropic/asymmetric hardening behavior of magnesium alloy sheet, Int. J. Plasticity 24(4), 545–582) was applied to the springback prediction in sheet metal forming. The implicit finite element program ABAQUS was utilized to implement the developed constitutive equations via user material subroutine. For the verification purpose, the springback of AZ31B magnesium alloy sheet was measured using the unconstrained cylindrical bending test of Numisheet (Numisheet ’2002 Benchmark Problem, 2002. In: Yang, D.Y., Oh, S.I., Huh, H., Kim, Y.H. (Eds.), Proceedings of 5th International Conference and Workshop on Numerical Simulation of 3D Sheet Forming Processes, Jeju, Korea) and 2D draw bend test. With the specially designed draw bend test the direct restraining force and long drawn distance were attainable, thus the measurement of the springback could be made with improved accuracy comparable with conventional U channel draw bend test. Besides the developed constitutive models, other models based on isotropic constitutive equations and the Chaboche type kinematic hardening model were also considered. Comparisons were made between simulated results by the finite element analysis and corresponding experiments and the newly proposed model showed enhanced prediction capability, which was also supported by the simple bending analysis adopting asymmetric stress–strain response.  相似文献

This paper assesses the sensitivity of cyclic plasticity to microstructure morphology by examining and comparing the microplastic ratcheting behavior of different idealized microstructures (square, hexagonal, tessellated, and digitized from experimental data). This analysis demonstrates the sensitivity of computational accuracy to the various approximations in microstructural representation. The methodology used to perform this study relies on a coupling between microstructural characterization, mechanical testing and numerical simulations to investigate the influence of the microstructure on the purely tensile uniaxial microplastic ratcheting behavior of pure nickel polycrystals. The morphology and deformation behavior of polycrystals were characterized using electron back-scatter diffraction (EBSD), while a finite element model (FEM) of crystal plasticity was used in a computational framework. The predicted cyclic behavior is compared to experimental results both at the macroscopic and microstructural scales. The stress–strain response is less sensitive to the details of the microstructural representation than might be expected with all representations displaying similar macroscopic constitutive response. However, the details of the plastic strain distribution at the microstructural scale and the related estimations of damage mechanics vary substantially from one microstructural representation to another.  相似文献

Deformation micromechanisms of a Ti–6Al–4V alloy under fatigue loading at room temperature are studied using a three-dimensional crystal plasticity constitutive model. The model employs a minimum set of fitting parameters based on experimental data for Ti–6Al–4V. Single slip is strongly favored through a softening law that affects mainly the driving force for slip on the first activated slip system. Cyclic deformation behavior at the macroscopic scale and at the local scale of grains is analyzed through the simulation of 20 cycles of fatigue on a polycrystalline structure of 900 randomly oriented grains. The progressive activation of slip (basal, prismatic, and pyramidal) is analyzed and compared to experimental observations.  相似文献

Four calibration methods have been evaluated for the linear transformation-based anisotropic yield function YLD2004-18p (Barlat, F., Aretz, H., Yoon, J.W., Karabin, M.E., Brem, J.C., Dick, R.E., 2005. Linear transformation-based anisotropic yield functions. Int. J. Plasticity 21, 1009–1039) and the aluminium alloy AA5083-H116. The different parameter identifications are based on least squares fits to combinations of uniaxial tensile tests in seven directions with respect to the rolling direction, compression (upsetting) tests in the normal direction and stress states found using the full-constraint (FC) Taylor model for 690 evenly distributed strain paths. An elastic–plastic constitutive model based on YLD2004-18p has been implemented in a non-linear finite element code and used in finite element simulations of plane-strain tension tests, shear tests and upsetting tests. The experimental results as well as the Taylor model predictions can be satisfactorily reproduced by the considered yield function. However, the lacking ability of the Taylor model to quantitatively reproduce the experiments calls for more advanced crystal plasticity models.  相似文献

The initial and subsequent yield surfaces for an anisotropic and pressure-dependent 2D stochastic cellular material, which represents solid foams, are investigated under biaxial loading using finite element analysis. Scalar measures of stress and strain, namely characteristic stress and characteristic strain, are used to describe the constitutive response of cellular material along various stress paths. The coupling between loading path and strain hardening is then investigated in characteristic stress–strain domain. The nature of the flow rule that best describes the plastic flow of cellular solid is also investigated. An incremental plasticity framework is proposed to describe the pressure-dependent plastic flow of 2D stochastic cellular solids. The proposed plasticity framework adopts the anisotropic and pressure-dependent yield function recently introduced by Alkhader and Vural [Alkhader M., Vural M., 2009a. An energy-based anisotropic yield criterion for cellular solids and validation by biaxial FE simulations. J. Mech. Phys. Solids 57(5), 871–890]. It has been shown that the proposed yield function can be simply calibrated using elastic constants and flow stresses under uniaixal loading. Comparison of stress fields predicted by continuum plasticity model to the ones obtained from FE analysis shows good agreement for the range of loading paths and strains investigated.  相似文献

To describe the yield-point phenomena of steels, an extended version of the first author’s model (Yoshida, F., 2000. A constitutive model of cyclic plasticity. International Journal of Plasticity 16, 359–380) is proposed on the premise that the material behavior of sharp yield point and the subsequent abrupt yield drop result from a rapid dislocation multiplication and the stress-dependence of dislocation velocity. A specific feature of this model is that it describes well a high upper yield point, the rate-dependent Lüders strain at the yield plateau and the subsequent workhardening, as well as cyclic plasticity characteristics, such as the Bauschinger effect and rate-dependent ratcheting. Using this model, an FE simulation of temper rolling process is conducted in order to clarify its role for the elimination of the yield point of steel sheets. Particularly, the effect of upper yield point on the deformation characteristics in the process is discussed.  相似文献

Failure in micro-reinforced composites is investigated numerically using the strain-gradient plasticity theory of Gudmundson [Gudmundson, P., 2004. A unified treatment of strain gradient plasticity. Journal of the Mechanics and Physics of Solids 52 (6) 1379–1406] in a plane strain visco-plastic formulation. Bi-axially loaded unit cells are used and failure is modeled using a cohesive zone at the reinforcement interface. During debonding a sudden stress drop in the overall average stress–strain response is observed. Adaptive higher-order boundary conditions are imposed at the reinforcement interface for realistically modeling the restrictions on moving dislocations as debonding occurs. It is found that the influence of the imposed higher-order boundary conditions at the interface is minor. If strain-gradient effects are accounted for a void with a smooth shape develops at the reinforcement interface while a smaller void having a sharp tip nucleates if strain-gradient effects are excluded. Using orthogonalization of the plastic strain gradient with three corresponding material length scales it is found that, the first length scale dominates the evaluated overall average stress–strain response, the second one only has a small effect and the third one has an intermediate effect. Finally, studies of reinforcement having elliptical cross-sections show rather significant gradients of stress which is not seen for the corresponding circular cross-sections. Also, an increased drop in the overall load carrying capacity is observed for cross-sections elongated perpendicular to the principal tensile direction compared to the corresponding circular cross-sections.  相似文献

A rate dependent, microstructure-sensitive crystal plasticity model is formulated for correlating the mechanical behavior of a polycrystalline Ni-base superalloy IN 100 at 650 °C. This model has the capability to capture first order effects on the stress–strain response due to (a) grain size, (b) γ′ precipitate size distribution, and (c) γ′ precipitate volume fraction. Experimental fatigue data with variable strain rates are used to calibrate the model for several distinct IN 100 microstructures (grain size, precipitate size distributions and volume fractions) obtained from thermomechanical processing. Physically based hardening laws are employed to evolve the dislocation densities for each slip system, taking into consideration the dislocation interaction mechanisms.  相似文献

Ti–6Al–4V is a dual phase material with range of possible complex microstructures. It is well known that mechanical behavior of Ti–6Al–4V is significantly affected by its texture and microstructure morphology. A three-dimensional microstructure-based constitutive model for monotonic and cyclic deformation of duplex Ti–6Al–4V is developed and implemented. The model includes length scale effects associated with dislocation interactions with different microstructure features, and is calibrated using polycrystalline finite element simulations to fit the measured macroscopic responses (overall stress–strain behavior) of a duplex heat treated Ti–6Al–4V alloy subjected to a complex cyclic loading history. Representative microstructures are simulated using a three-dimensional finite element mesh with periodic boundary conditions imposed in all directions. The measured orientation and misorientation distributions of grains of this duplex Ti–6Al–4V are considered, and similar probability density distributions of the crystallographic orientations are assigned to the finite element mesh. The misorientation distributions are then fit using the simulated annealing method. Effects of microstructural features are examined and compared with the experimental data in terms of their influence on the material yield strength. The results are shown to be in good agreement with the experimental observations.  相似文献

A hierarchical multilevel method is presented for the plastic deformation of polycrystalline materials with texture-induced anisotropy. It is intended as a constitutive material model for finite element codes for the simulation of metal forming processes or for the prediction of forming limits. It consists of macroscopic models of which the parameters are to be identified using the results of two-level (meso/macro) or three-level (micro/meso/macro) models. A few such two-level models are presented, ranging from the full-constraints Taylor model to the crystal-plasticity finite element models, including the grain interaction models GIA, LAMEL and ALAMEL. Validation efforts based on experimental cold rolling textures obtained for steel and aluminium alloys are shortly discussed. An assessment is also given of the assumptions of the LAMEL and ALAMEL models concerning stress and strain rate heterogeneity at grain boundaries, based on the results of a crystal plasticity finite element study. Finally a recent three-level model which also looks at the microscopic level (dislocation substructure) is discussed.  相似文献
