The nonaqueous dispersion polymerization of styrene in methanol with poly[(4‐methylstyrene)‐co‐(4‐vinyltriethylbenzyl ammonium bromide)]‐b‐polyisobutene as a stabilizer was investigated. There was no observable inducing period or autoacceleration in the polymerization process. The conversion increased almost linearly with the polymerization time as high as 80%. The average sizes of the obtained polystyrene particles increased, and the size distributions of the polystyrene particles tended to become narrower, with increasing conversion. The mechanism of the dispersion polymerization in the presence of polyisobutene‐b‐poly[(4‐methylstyrene)‐co‐(4‐vinyltriethylbenzyl ammonium bromide)] was nucleation/growth. When the stabilizer/monomer ratio (w/w) was greater than 2.0%, the polystyrene dispersion was stable, and there was no observable polymer particle coagulation taking place during the whole polymerization process. The average diameter of the polymer particles can be mediated through changes in the polymerization conversion, monomer, and stabilizer. Nearly monodispersed polystyrene particles with average diameters of approximately 0.45–2.21 μm were obtained under optimal conditions. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Thiophenols are versatile synthetic intermediates whose practical appeal is marred by their air sensitivity, toxicity and extreme malodor. Herein we report an efficient catalytic method for the preparation of S-aryl isothiouronium salts, and demonstrate that these air-stable, odorless solids serve as user-friendly sources of thiophenols in synthesis. Diverse isothiouronium salts featuring synthetically useful functionality are readily accessible by nickel-catalyzed C−S cross-coupling of (hetero)aryl iodides and thiourea. Convenient, chromatography-free isolation of these salts is achieved by precipitation, allowing the methodology to be applied directly to large scales. Thiophenols are liberated from the corresponding isothiouronium salts upon treatment with a weak base, enabling an in situ release/S-functionalization strategy that entirely negates the need to isolate, purify or manipulate these noxious reagents.  相似文献

An efficient one‐pot protocol for the direct preparation of thioglycosides starting from unprotected reducing sugars via S‐glycosyl isothiouronium salts is reported. In this one‐pot methodology, BF3 · OEt2 has been used as a general catalyst for both per‐O‐acetylation of sugars and conversion of sugar per‐O‐acetates into S‐glycosyl isothiouronium salts, which was allowed to react with alkylating agents in the presence of a base to furnish thioglycosides in excellent yield.  相似文献

The precipitation of Fe3O4 from an aqueous solution with ammonium hydroxide produced nanoparticles that were coated with a layer of oleic acid [or, in some cases, poly(ethylene oxide) or poly(vinylpyrrolidone)] before their dispersion into the organic phase. The encapsulation of magnetite nanoparticles in poly(2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate) or poly(2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate‐co‐glycidyl methacrylate) microparticles was achieved by dispersion polymerization in toluene/2‐methylpropan‐1‐ol. Magnetic poly(glycidyl methacrylate) microparticles were obtained in the presence of poly(ethylene oxide) at the magnetite/monomer interface. The particles containing up to 20 wt % iron maintained their discrete nature and did not aggregate. The effect of the reaction medium polarity, the concentrations of the monomer, initiator, and stabilizer, and the temperature on the particle size, particle size distribution, and iron and oxirane group contents was studied. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The surface contact disinfecting technique is a newly developed method for water sterilization. In this paper, the grafted quaternary ammonium salts (QAS) antibacterial fibers were prepared and designed to apply for the surface contact disinfecting process in water treatment. The antibacterial fibers were directly prepared by grafting methacryloxylethyl benzyl dimethyl ammonium chloride (DMAE-BC) onto cellulose fiber using thiocarbonate-H2O2 redox system. All kinds of factors in the grafting reactions, such as reaction time, reaction temperature, monomer concentration, initiator concentration, which influence the percentage of grafting, were studied and optimized. The modified cellulose fibers were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and scanning electron microscope(SEM). The effects of the percentage of grafting of the grafted cellulose fibers on bactericidal activity were also studied. The spread plate method was used to characterize the bactericidal activity. The disinfection process was further investigated by directly observing the morphology of the bacterial cells adsorbed on the antibacterial fibers with SEM and measuring extracelluar total protein concentration in suspension. The poly(DMAE-BC)-grafted cellulose ?ber was found to exhibit particularly high activity against E.coli.  相似文献

The encapsulation of seed polymer particles coated by anionic iron oxide nanoparticles has been investigated using N-isopropylacrylamide as a main monomer, N,N-methylene bisacrylamide as a crosslinking agent, itaconic acid as a functional monomer and potassium persulfate as an anionic initiator. The magnetic latexes obtained have been characterized with regard to particle size, iron oxide content and electrophoretic mobility. All these properties have been examined by varying several polymerization parameters: reaction medium, monomer(s) and crosslinking agent concentrations, nature of seed latexes and type of polymerization (batch versus shot process). The magnetic content in the polymer microspheres strongly depends on the polymerization procedure (i.e., encapsulation process) and varies between 6 and 23 wt%, and monodisperse magnetic polymer particles were obtained. Polyesters were prepared which retained phosphonium biocides as counter ions of sodium sulfonate moieties incorporated into the polymers, and surface antibacterial activity of the polyester films against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli was explored. These films exhibited a high surface antibacterial activity against S. aureus and E. coli, particularly against S. aureus, and the activity was affected by the structure and the compositional ratio of the phosphonium salts. Amount of the released phosphonium salts was very small, so that liberation of the phosphonium biocides can be expected to occur over a long period. Morphological changes of the cells of S. aureus and E. coli in contact with the polyester films were evaluated by scanning electron microscopy. It was found that the surface antibacterial activity of the polyester films was rather bacteriostatic than bactericidal as evidenced by no morphological changes of the bacterial cells in contact with the phosphonium biocides © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

The effect of the kind of transition‐metal catalyst on the extent of comonomer insertion in the syndiospecific complex‐coordinative copolymerization of styrene and para‐methylstyrene has been investigated. The results for the influence of the polymerization conditions have shown that there is no real difference between solution copolymerization in toluene and solvent‐free styrene copolymerization in bulk, with respect to the reactivity ratio for para‐methylstyrene (r2), under comparable conditions in the presence of methylaluminoxane and triisobutylaluminum and at low polymerization conversions. All the investigated catalysts lead to a preferred incorporation of para‐methylstyrene into the polymer chain in comparison with styrene and over the whole range of monomer compositions. The increasing capability of the different catalysts to provide copolymers with enhanced para‐methylstyrene concentrations can be summarized by the increasing r2 values for the copolymerization in bulk as follows: η5‐pentamethylcyclopentadienyl titanium trichloride < η5‐octahydrofluorenyl titanium trimethoxide < η5‐octahydrofluorenyl titanium tristrifluoroacetate < η5‐cyclopentadienyl titanium(N,N‐dicyclohexylamido)dichloride < η5‐cyclopentadienyl titanium trichloride. For a correlation between the catalyst structure and the comonomer insertion, the catalysts can be described by electronic effects (electrostatic charge of the transition‐metal atom) and steric effects (minimum structural cone angle). The results show that the steric properties of the transition‐metal complexes have the most important effect on the insertion of para‐methylstyrene into the copolymer. If the minimum structural cone angle of the ligand of the transition‐metal catalyst decreases, the incorporation of the comonomer para‐methylstyrene increases significantly. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This study investigates the effect of surface immobilization on the bactericidal function of a quaternary ammonium compound. Quaternary ammonium silane (QAS) coated planar surfaces did not produce any measurable mortality of Staphylococcus aureus, while 1 µm QAS‐coated microparticles did produce S. aureus mortality. The experiments using QAS‐coated microparticles indicate that the ability of QAS molecules to disrupt the cell wall is not hindered by covalent immobilization of QAS to a surface. These results provide evidence that S. aureus cells on a QAS‐coated planar surface are not exposed to a sufficient number of QAS molecules to produce significant mortality. This result has important implications for the development of self‐decontaminating coatings. Covalent immobilization is used to prevent leaching of the bactericidal compound. Poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm)‐based microspheres were prepared by precipitation and dispersion polymerization. The effects of several reaction parameters, such as the type and concentration of the crosslinker (N,N′‐methylenebisacrylamide or ethylene dimethacrylate), medium polarity, concentration of the monomer and initiator, and polymerization temperature, on the properties were examined. The hydrogel microspheres were characterized in terms of their chemical structure, size and size distribution, and morphological and temperature‐induced swelling properties. A decrease in the particle size was observed with increasing polarity of the reaction medium or increasing concentration of poly(N‐vinylpyrrolidone) as a stabilizer in the dispersion polymerization. The higher the content was of the crosslinking agent, the lower the swelling ratio was. Too much crosslinker gave unstable dispersions. Although the solvency of the precipitation polymerization mixture controlled the PNIPAAm microsphere size in the range of 0.2–1 μm, a micrometer range was obtained in the Shellvis 50 and Kraton G 1650 stabilized dispersion polymerizations of N‐isopropylacrylamide in toluene/heptane. Typically, the particles had fairly narrow size distributions. A macroinitiator was prepared from a triblock copolymer of polyisobutylene (PIB) with end blocks of poly(p‐methylstyrene) (P(p‐MeS)) by bromination to obtain initiating bromomethyl groups for atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). Controlled polymerization of styrene and p‐acetoxystyrene yields new triblock copolymer structures with densely grafted end blocks. Simultaneously, however, thermally initiated polymerizations can be observed by size exclusion chromatography (SEC) which were also controlled yielding low molecular weight polymers with narrow distributions. A tendency to crosslinking can be suppressed by selection of the polymerization conditions.  相似文献

The study was focused on the structure–activity relationship of some newly synthesized hexacoordinated dimethyltin(IV) complexes of fluorinated β‐diketone/β‐diketones and sterically congested heterocyclic β‐diketones. These complexes were screened for their antibacterial activity against a Gram‐negative bacterium (Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and Gram‐positive bacteria (Streptomyces griseus, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis) and the results were compared with those of a standard antibacterial drug. Some of the complexes were also screened for their antifungal activity against various fungi (Aspergillus niger, A. flavus, Trichoderma viride, Fusarium oxysporum) and were found to be active. These new hexacoordinated complexes of dimethyltin(IV) were generated by reactions of dimethyltin(IV) dichloride and sodium salts of fluorinated β‐diketone/β‐diketones and sterically congested heterocyclic β‐diketones in 1:1:1 molar ratio in refluxing dry benzene. Plausible structures of these complexes were suggested with the aid of physicochemical and spectroscopic studies. 119Sn NMR spectral data revealed the presence of a hexacoordinated tin centre in these dimethyltin(IV) complexes. A very straightforward approach was developed to synthesize pegylated thermoresponsive core‐shell nanoparticles in a minimum of steps, directly in water. It is based on RAFT‐controlled radical crosslinking copolymerization of N,N‐diethylacrylamide (DEAAm) and N,N′‐methylene bisacrylamide (MBA) in aqueous dispersion polymerization. Because DEAAm is water‐soluble and poly(N,N‐diethylacrylamide) (PDEAAm) exhibits a lower critical solution temperature at 32 °C, the initial medium was homogeneous, whereas the polymer formed a separate phase at the reaction temperature. The first macroRAFT agent was a surface‐active trithiocarbonate based on a hydrophilic poly(ethylene oxide) block and a hydrophobic dodecyl chain. It was further extented with N,N‐dimethylacrylamide (DMAAm) to target macroRAFT agents with increasing chain length. All macroRAFT agents provided excellent control over the aqueous dispersion homopolymerization of DEAAm. When they were used in the radical crosslinking copolymerization of DEAAm and MBA, the stability and size of the resulting gel particles were found to depend strongly on the chain length of the macroRAFT agent, on the concentrations of both the monomer and the crosslinker, and on the process (one step or two steps). The best‐suited experimental conditions to reach thermosensitive hydrogels with nanometric size and well‐defined surface properties were determined. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The reaction of 2,4‐diaryl 1,3,2,4‐dithiadiphosphetane‐2,4‐disulfide with diketonide of d ‐mannitol has been found to give optically active bisaryldithiophosphonic acids transformed into the corresponding diammonium salts by the treatment of n‐hexadecylamine. O,O‐Bis(trimethylsilyl) ether of d ‐mannitol ketonide reacts with 2,4‐diaryl 1,3,2,4‐dithiadiphosphetane‐2,4‐disulfide to form chiral S,S‐disilylbisaryldithiophosphonate. In an attempt to synthesize antibacterial agents effective against gram‐positive and gram‐negative bacteria, the efficient synthesis of novel bis‐azetidinones ( 3a–j ) has been established. Thus, cycloaddition reaction of substituted bis‐imines with chloroacetylchloride under microwave irradiation in the presence of zeolite yielded bis‐azetidinones ( 3a–j ). Structures of the synthesized compounds have been elucidated on the basis of their elemental analysis and spectral data (IR, 1H‐NMR, 13C‐NMR, and mass spectra). The synthesized bis‐azetidinones were screened for their antibacterial activity against five microorganisms: Bacillus subtilis, Proteus vulgaris, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Escherichia coli. They were found to exhibit good to moderate antibacterial activity.  相似文献

A two-step swelling procedure was adopted to synthesize mono-dispersed and highly cross-linked poly (St-divinylbenzene) particles with PSt micro-spheres (1.80 μm in diameter). The PSt micro-spheres were prepared by a dispersion polymerization method and used as seeds. The effects of monomer concentration, ratio of ethanol to water, swelling reagents, crosslinking reagents, swelling temperature and agitation speed on particle size were investigated in detail. The morphologies and size distributions of these micro-spheres were examined by SEM and particle size analysis (PSA). The T g of the micro-spheres was measured by DSC. The results indicate that the particles (6.20 μm in diameter) exhibit excellent mono dispersed property and high crosslinking degree when the concentration of the swelling reagent was 25%, the concentration of the crosslinking reagents was 23%, the swelling temperature was 30°C and the stirring speed was 150 r/min. __________ Translated from Chinese Journal of Applied Chemistry, 2007, 24(11): 1289–1294  相似文献

A cis ‐dioxomolybdenum(VI) complex was prepared with MoO2(acac)2 and a Schiff base ligand (2‐((2‐hydroxybenzylidene)amino)‐3‐(1H ‐indol‐3‐yl)propanoic acid) derived from salicylaldehyde and l ‐tryptophan in ethanol and designated as [MoO2(Sal‐Tryp)(EtOH)]. It was characterized using several techniques including thermogravimetric and elemental analyses and mass, Fourier transform infrared and UV–visible spectroscopies. Theoretical calculations were performed using density functional theory for studying the molecular structure. An in vitro antibacterial activity evaluation showed that [MoO2(Sal‐Tryp)EtOH] complex exhibits good inhibitory effects against Gram‐positive (Bacillus subtilis , Staphylococcus aureus ) and Gram‐negative (Escherichia coli , Pseudomonas aeruginosa ) bacteria in comparison to standard antibacterial drugs. It was also found that [MoO2(Sal‐Tryp)EtOH] complex successfully catalyses the epoxidation of cyclooctene, norbornene, cyclohexene, styrene, α‐methylstyrene and trans ‐stilbene, with 45–100% conversions and 64–100% selectivities. Based on the obtained results, the heterogeneity and reusability of the catalyst seem promising.  相似文献

A series of new 1,3,4‐oxadiazole/thiadiazole and 1,2,4‐triazole derivatives have been synthesized starting from 2‐aryl‐4‐methylthiazol‐5‐carbohydrazides and isonicotinic acid hydrazide. All the newly synthesized compounds were characterized by IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and mass spectrometry. The synthesized compounds were screened for their antibacterial and antifungal activity, assessed as growth inhibition diameter. Some of them showed good antibacterial activity against gram positive Staphylococcus aureus, while the antibacterial activity against Listeria monocytogenes, Escherichia coli, and Salmonella typhymurium and antifungal activity against Candida albicans was modest. None of the tested compounds showed inhibitory activity against gram positive bacteria Enterococcus faecalis and Bacillus cereus and against gram negative bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa.  相似文献

Bamboo charcoal supporting silver (BC/Ag) was prepared by activation and chemical reduction. The BC/Ag composites were characterized by silver particle size and distribution, silver ion (Ag+) release and antibacterial properties. Scanning and transmission electron microscopy (SEM and TEM) showed that the Ag particles were distributed uniformly on the BC matrix. The Ag particle size was found to be less than 150 nm based on TEM. The Ag+ release increased initially which was followed by a marginal increase between the 8th and 24th hour. Composites contained higher amounts of silver exhibited a further rise in Ag+ release from the 24‐hours of storage in water. The antibacterial effects of the BC/Ag composite powders against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus were assessed from the minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) and minimum bactericidal concentrations (MBCs) method, and an excellent antibacterial performance was discovered.  相似文献
