A high-resolution spectroscopy technique is proposed with an optical phase modulator combined with an interleaved optical frequency comb. The optical phase modulator and a frequency-locked laser light guarantee a spectral resolution less than 1 MHz on an absolute frequency axis. A wide measurement frequency range was realized using a 25 GHz optical frequency comb lying over a 4 THz frequency region. An extraction of single tooth intensity from the comb was realized by a heterodyne technique with a frequency-tunable laser used as a local oscillator. Also, the 25 GHz optical frequency comb was interleaved to generate four 100-GHz combs for removing the crosstalk from the 25 GHz neighboring sidebands in the teeth. This proposed spectroscopy technique was experimentally demonstrated with a resonator of less than 1 MHz linewidth and a H13C14N gas cell. Thus, a measurement frequency range higher than 4 THz (1530 nm-1560 nm) was confirmed with an effective spectral resolution 100 kHz order. In addition, the characteristics of the proposed system were compared with those of the previous system with a single-sideband (SSB) optical modulator.  相似文献

We present a multi-wavelength mode-locked fiber ring laser incorporating a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) and a Fabry-Perot semiconductor optical amplifier (FP-SOA). Because the gain of the SOA is depleted by an external injection optical signal, the SOA acts as a loss modulator. The FP-SOA serves as a tunable comb filter. The presented laser source can generate 19 synchronized wavelength channels with the extinction ratio of about 21 dB, each mode-locked at 10 GHz, and mode-locked pulse width is about 40 ps. Oscillation wavelengths band can be tuned by adjusting the bias current of the SOA, and wavelength spacing also can be changed by using a tunable optical delay line (ODL) or a temperature controller. The polarization-insensitive devices ensure that the output power is rather stable. This fiber laser has potential applications in longer waveband (L-band) within the low-attenuation window.  相似文献

In this study, a bidirectional 60 GHz RoF systems based on four-wave mixing (FWM) in semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) is proposed. Two key techniques are included in such a scheme, namely, generation of 60 GHz modulating signals and distribution of 60 GHz local oscillator. The analytical model is theoretically analyzed and then confirmed by numerical simulations. Results of this study demonstrate that such a scheme can offer realistic solutions to support future mobile broad-band applications.  相似文献

A novel full-duplex radio-over-fiber system is proposed and demonstrated, in which an external modulator and an optical interleaver are used to generate dual octupling-frequency optical millimeter waves for two base stations and wavelength reuse for uplink connection. This scheme is simplified and low-cost because no additional laser is utilized for uplink connection at two base stations and one laser at central office works for two base stations simultaneously. The frequency of local oscillator signal is reduced largely due to frequency octupling. The theorem about how to generate optical millimeter waves is analyzed. The simulation results show that the bidirectional 5 Gb/s system has a perfect performance because the power penalty for the downlink and uplink signals of two base stations are less than 0.6 dB after successful transmission over 60 km standard single mode fiber.  相似文献

The quality and pulse compression of the 60 GHz millimeter wave signals generated by 750 μm long InAlGaAs Multi Quantum Well (MQW) passively mode locked laser under free running and optical self-injection locked conditions are experimentally characterized in terms of longitudinal modes under certain bias currents that range from 24 mA to 90 mA. Initially, the MQW laser is characterized in free running condition with no external injection. The measurements reflect that the free spectral range of laser under test is around 61 GHz and exhibit more than 22 lasing modes. The laser is then integrated into low phase noise self-injection locking oscillator by feeding a part of output RF signal back into the laser cavity to enhance passive mode locking. By doing so the microwave line width of our laser is reduced from 900 kHz to 24 kHz with significant increase in output of resultant beat tones which exhibits strong passive mode locking. This is the first time that the free running microwave line width of MQW laser is reduced up to this level. It is evident from our experimental investigation that as we increase the power and phase correlation between different longitudinal modes inside laser cavity through optical self-injection, the strength of the passively mode locked mechanism is significantly increased and the phase noise of radio frequency signal is drastically reduced.  相似文献

A multiwavelength fiber ring laser comprising of a Lyot filter and hybrid gain medium is presented. A wavelength channel spacing of 100 GHz is achieved by appropriate tuning of the Lyot filter length. Four wavelength channels are simultaneously mode-locked at 10 GHz using an electroabsorption modulator. We highlight how the intra-cavity modulator can affect the stability of the mode-locked laser spectrum when used in conjunction with a Lyot filter. We show that, due its reduced polarization sensitivity, an electroabsorption modulator significantly improves the stability of the mode-locked laser spectrum when compared to using a Mach-Zehnder modulator.  相似文献

A novel technique and related formulations are proposed for analyzing the influences of the skin-effect on the performances of a polymer Y-fed coupler electro-optic modulator with shielded push-pull micro-strip electrodes. Using the extended point-matching method, coupled mode theory and electro-optic modulation theory, thorough design and optimization are performed. By introducing the effective applied voltage, formulas of the high-frequency response under skin-effect are deduced, and characteristics under skin-effect are analyzed. Under the central wavelength of 1550 nm, the half-wave voltage is as low as 1.097 V for the device with an active region length about 8.884 mm. Considering the influences of the skin-effect, the 3-dB modulating bandwidth of the microwave signal is up to 94 GHz. A high extinction ratio of more than 20 dB and a low insertion loss of less than 4.18 dB are achieved when the microwave frequency is below 68 GHz under skin-effect. This design technique is proven to be accurate by the comparison with the beam propagation method (BPM).  相似文献

This paper describes the design of a large sized diamond window for 1 MW, 170 GHz gyrotron. The diameter and the thickness of the diamond window are 80 mm and 1.482 mm, respectively, whose edge is directly cooled by water. The CST microwave studio has been used for the S-parameter, and finite element analysis code ANSYS has been used for the thermal and the structural simulation. The return loss (S11) and insertion loss (S21) of the 170 GHz gyrotron window have been found −39.80 dB and −0.011 dB, respectively. The thermal and structural analysis of RF window the 397 K temperature at disk center and maximum displacement 0.01 mm has been found in the window disk during the thermal analysis.  相似文献

This paper describes improved results when comparing cascaded traveling wave electro absorption modulator (TWEAM) to non-cascaded TWEAM by simulation. Large signal modeling is used for both types of modulators to achieve 4 and 10 dB extinction ratios (ERs) with flat frequency response for applications in short distance as well as long distance optical fiber communication. To obtain 4 and 10 dB ERs with 110 GHz 3 dB bandwidth, a cascaded TWEAM requires 0.4 V peak to peak (VP-P) and 1 VP-P input driving voltages respectively. A non-cascaded TWEAM requires about two times the input driving voltage compared to the cascaded modulator to achieve the same values of ER and 3 dB bandwidth. Both modulators have been simulated with the same bias and also use the same circuit parameters except for the total active segment lengths (1 and 0.5 mm for cascaded and non-cascaded modulator respectively) and microstrip lengths to obtain the same ERs and 3 dB bandwidths.  相似文献

We report on a widely tunable, pulsed laser system with narrow spectral linewidth based on a continuous wave ytterbium fiber oscillator, a pulse shaper and a power amplifier stage. The system is tunable from 1055 nm to 1085 nm and provides a maximum pulse energy of 155 μJ with a pulse duration of 1-5 μs. The linewidth is less than 2.7 GHz over the whole tuning range.  相似文献

An analytical model of a super linear optical modulator with high spurious-free-dynamic-range (SFDR > 130 dB) is presented and analyzed. The linear modulator is referred to as IMPACC which stands for Interferometric Modulator with Phase-modulating And Cavity-modulating Components. The modulator is based on a unique combination of a RF-driven phase-modulator (PM) and a ring resonator (RR) within a Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) configuration. Our analysis shows that our design can achieve SFDR values which are ~ 20 dB higher than the standard MZI modulator and 3-5 dB from the Ring Assisted Mach-Zehnder Interferometer (RAMZI) modulator. Both PM and RR in the IMPACC are simultaneously driven by a RF signal of the same frequency, but not necessarily the same amplitudes. The analytical model shows that the combination of these two optical elements, with the proper choice of RF-driving and device parameters, can lead to four important and compelling consequences. First, it offers a wholistic and elegant model in which the standard MZI modulator and the RAMZI modulator are just special cases of IMPACC. Second, the model offers an excellent parameter optimization methodology for fast parameter (internal and/or external) selection and performance evaluation. Third, it provides additional degree of control through the introduction of an external control parameter, the RF power split ratio (F). Lastly, it demonstrates one unique feature of IMPACC such as adaptive SFDR characteristics, where manufacturing tolerances in the transmission coefficient (τ) of the RR can be compensated with proper adjustments of the external parameter of the power split ratio (F).  相似文献

Doppler-broadened atomic and molecular spectra were observed with a one octave tunable, continuous-wave, doubly resonant, monolithic optical parametric oscillator (OPO) using 5% MgO-doped LiNbO3 as a non-linear crystal with a birefringent phase-matching configuration. By tuning the frequency of a pump laser, longitudinal mode selection over 20 successive modes, corresponding to a 60 GHz span, was possible, owing to the simple structure of the monolithic OPO. Continuous frequency tuning was achieved using an external waveguide-type electrooptic phase modulator (EOM). By changing the modulation frequency of the EOM, frequency tuning of the optical sidebands over 12 GHz was possible, which is larger than the one free spectral range of the monolithic cavity of 3 GHz. We could observe the Cs-D1 (894 nm), Cs-D2 (852 nm), Rb-D1 (795 nm), acetylene R9 (1520 nm) and P9 (1530 nm) transitions with the single monolithic OPO.  相似文献

The room-temperature rotational spectrum of pyruvonitrile (acetyl cyanide, CH3COCN) was measured up to 324 GHz, and additional measurements were also made in supersonic expansion in the region 7-19 GHz. The available data sets for the A and E torsional sublevels were extended to over 1200 transitions, J = 65 and Ka = 38 for the ground vibrational state, and to comparable numbers of transitions for first excited states of the methyl torsional mode ν18, and the in-plane CCN bending mode ν12. The collected experimental measurements were fitted with several different computer programs for dealing with the effects of methyl torsional motion on the rotational spectrum and many spectroscopic constants have been determined. The experimental results are discussed in detail and are augmented by ab initio computations. Stark effect measurements in supersonic expansion were used to precisely determine the electric dipole moment of pyruvonitrile, ∣μa∣ = 2.462(2) D, ∣μb∣ = 2.442(2) D, μtot = 3.468(2) D. Pyruvonitrile, as an 8-atom molecule with a sizable dipole moment, is a possible candidate for astrophysical detection and the present work provides the laboratory data necessary for that purpose.  相似文献

The absorption profile of the N = 1− fine structure line of oxygen was recorded by a resonator spectrometer at a frequency range of 110-130 GHz at atmospheric pressure and different temperatures ranging from −21 °C up to +22 °C. Analysis of the observed line shape allowed determination of the temperature dependence of the line pressure broadening. The measured value of the temperature exponent is n = 0.74(5) for self-broadening. Consistency of the measurements is supported by simultaneous measurements of the line intensity, the line mixing parameter and the line center frequency, and by comparison of obtained values with previously known data.  相似文献

In this paper we report passive harmonic mode-locking of an Erbium/Ytterbium-doped double-clad fiber laser with repetition rates up to 10 GHz. The modes synchronization was obtained using Nonlinear Polarization Rotation mechanism. The stable operation at 634th harmonic of the fundamental (15.8 MHz) repetition frequency was achieved. Soliton pulses with the duration of less than 900 fs and 300 mW average output power were obtained.  相似文献

The air induced broadening coefficients of the pure rotational transitions of H2O at 556.936 GHz (110←101), and 752.033 GHz (211←202) were measured by terahertz time-domain spectroscopy. The air broadening coefficient was determined to be for the 556.936 GHz line and for the 752.033 GHz line, respectively. The present broadening coefficients for the 556.936 GHz water line are significantly smaller than those of Markov and Krupnov [Measurements of the pressure shift of the 1(10)-1(01) water line at 556.936 GHz produced by mixtures of gases. J Mol Spect 1995:172;211-4] but relatively close to the values of the HITRAN database. The measured data may improve the accuracy of the abundance of water vapor retrieved from spectra obtained by the Odin/SMR satellite instrument. The effect on the satellite retrieval processing is discussed.  相似文献

A stable multiwavelength mode-locked semiconductor fiber ring laser incorporating a fiber Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) filter was proposed and experimentally demonstrated. A semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) serves as an optically controlled mode-locking element due to gain exhaustion caused by external injected optical pulses. Another SOA severs as a constant-gain medium. A fiber MZI filter with a temperature control is incorporated into the fiber ring cavity to acquire a stable and tunable multiwavelength oscillation. Twelve wavelengths are synchronously mode-locked at 10 GHz, pulse width of mode-locked pulse are about 30 ps. Proposed multiwavelength mode-locked semiconductor fiber ring laser has some distinct advantages, such as simple and compact structure, easy integration, convenient tuning, good stability, potential high repetition rate operating, which has potential application in the future WDM communication system.  相似文献

In this paper, the improvement method of the traditional optical spectrum analyzer (OSA) is demonstrated to measure the half-wave voltage of LiNbO3 phase modulator with low RF driving. Based on calculating the measured powers ratio of the carrier and first-order side band with optical spectrum analyzer (OSA), the phase modulation index is between 0.5 and 1.43 and the voltage of driving signal is lower than 0.796 V, the accurate characterization of the phase modulator is obtained. By using this method, the half-wave voltage of a LiNbO3 phase modulator had been measured in the frequency range of 26 GHz. And, our experimental results showed a good agreement between the measured data and those provided by the manufacturer in 9 GHz frequency range. It is an accurate and easy method to measure the half-wave voltages of a phase modulators, especially for measuring high the frequency response.  相似文献

In this paper, the three-dimensional simulation of triode-type magnetron injection gun (MIG) for 120 GHz, 1 MW gyrotron is presented. The operating voltages of the modulating anode and the accelerating anode are 57 kV and 80 kV respectively. The high order TE22,6 mode is selected as the operating mode and the electron beam is launched at the first radial maxima for the fundamental beam-mode operation. The initial design is obtained by using the in-house developed code MIGSYN. The numerical simulation is performed by using the commercially available code CST-Particle Studio (PS). The simulated results of MIG obtained by using CST-PS are validated with other simulation codes EGUN and TRAK, respectively. The results on the design output parameters obtained by using these three codes are found to be in close agreement.  相似文献

This paper investigates two key techniques used in 60 GHz Radio over Fiber (RoF) technology for wireless access, namely, the generation of 60 GHz signals and the distribution of 60 GHz local oscillator (LO). In the proposed model, a 60 GHz PSK signal is generated by a heterodyne of two subcarriers with narrow-angle PSK (NA-PSK) modulation, whose phase shift is equal to one half that of a normal PSK signal. Then we use a 60 GHz mixer to frequency mix two PSK signals in two different bands, 60 GHz and baseband. By doing this, the modulation information can be fully eliminated, resulting in a 60 GHz LO. In the wireless terminal, coherent demodulation is realized by a self-mixing of the transmitted 60 GHz PSK signal and LO. Thus no millimeter-wave (mm-wave) band oscillator is needed in the wireless terminal.  相似文献
