We study Abelian strings in a fixed de Sitter background. We find that the gauge and Higgs fields extend smoothly across the cosmological horizon and that the string solutions have oscillating scalar fields outside the cosmological horizon for all currently accepted values of the cosmological constant. If the gauge to Higgs boson mass ratio is small enough, the gauge field function has a power-like behaviour, while it is oscillating outside the cosmological horizon if Higgs and gauge boson mass are comparable. Moreover, we observe that Abelian strings exist only up to a maximal value of the cosmological constant and that two branches of solutions exist that meet at this maximal value. We also construct radially excited solutions that only exist for non-vanishing values of the cosmological constant and are thus a novel feature as compared to flat space–time. Considering the effect of the de Sitter string on the space–time, we observe that the deficit angle increases with increasing cosmological constant. Lensed objects would thus be separated by a larger angle as compared to asymptotically flat space–time.  相似文献

We demonstrate that current phenomenological constraints on Z-Z′ mixing for an E6 grand unified group with low energy gauge group SU(2)L×U(1)Y×U(1)Y, allow only a narrow range of Higgs vacuum expectation values consistent with possibilities favored by renormalization group expectations. Modest improvements in bounds on this mixing will lead to substantial bounds on the Z′ mass if alternative renormalization group solutions are not found. We then explore the constraints upon relations between Higgs masses in this model. In addition we explore the couplings of these Higgs to the gauge particles of the theory and emphasize the associated implications for Higgs detection in decays of the Z′.  相似文献

A review of the Higgs and neutralino sector of supersymmetric models is presented. This includes the upper limit on the mass of the lightest Higgs boson in the minimal supersymmetric standard model, as well as models based on the standard model gauge groupSU(2) L xU(l) Y with extended Higgs sectors. We then discuss the Higgs sector of left-right supersymmetric models, which conserveR-parity as a consequence of gauge invariance, and present a calculable upper bound on the mass of the lightest Higgs boson in these models. We also discuss the neutralino sector of general supersymmetric models based on the SM gauge group. We show that, as a consequence of gauge coupling unification, an upper bound on the mass of the lightest neutralino as a function of the gluino mass can be obtained.  相似文献

Motivated by new models of dynamical electroweak symmetry breaking that predict a light composite Higgs boson, we build an effective Lagrangian which describes the standard model (with a light Higgs) and vector resonances. We compute the cross section for the associate production of a Higgs and a gauge boson. For some values of model parameters we find that the cross section is significantly enhanced with respect to the standard model. This enhancement is similar at the LHC (large hadron collider) and the Tevatron for the same range of resonance mass. PACS 12.60.Nz  相似文献

We embed a theory with Z′ gauge boson (related to an extra U(1) gauge group) into a supersymmetric GUT theory based on SO(10). Two possible sequences of SO(10) breaking via VEVs of appropriate Higgs fields are considered. Gauge coupling unification provides constraints on the low energy values of two additional gauge coupling constants related to Z′ interactions with fermions. Our main purpose is to investigate in detail the freedom in these two values due to different scales of subsequent SO(10) breaking and unknown threshold mass corrections in the gauge RGEs. These corrections are mainly generated by Higgs representations and can be large because of the large dimensions of these representations. To account for many free mass parameters, effective threshold mass corrections have been introduced. Analytic results that show the allowed regions of values of two additional gauge coupling constants have been derived at 1-loop level. For a few points in parameter-space that belong to one of these allowed regions 1-loop running of gauge coupling constants has been compared with more precise running, which is 2-loop for gauge coupling constants and 1-loop for Yukawa coupling constants. 1-loop results have been compared with experimental constraints from electroweak precision tests and from the most recent LHC data.  相似文献

A theoretical analysis of solutions of renormalization group equations in the minimal supersymmetric standard model, which lead to a quasi-fixed point has shown that the mass of the lightest Higgs boson in these models does not exceed 94 ± 5 GeV. This implies that a considerable part of the parameter space in the minimal supersymmetric model is in fact eliminated by existing LEPII experimental data. In the nonminimal supersymmetric standard model the upper bound on the mass of the lightest Higgs boson reaches its maximum in the strong Yukawa coupling regime when the Yukawa constants are substantially greater than the gauge constants on the grand unification scale. In the present paper the particle spectrum is studied using the simplest modification of the nonminimal supersymmetric standard model which gives a self-consistent solution in this region of parameter space. This model can give m h ~ 125 GeV even for comparatively low values of β ≥ 1.9. The spectrum of Higgs bosons and neutralinos is analyzed using the method of diagonalizing mass matrices proposed earlier. In this model the mass of the lightest Higgs boson does not exceed 130.5 ± 3.5 GeV.  相似文献

At infinite gauge coupling the gauge fields in the fundamental lattice SU(N) Higgs model can be integrated out exactly. In the resulting effective theory of the radial Higgs field we derive a string -like correlation function that represents the leading behavior of the W two-point function at small β. For large N we then compute the W-mass and the Higgs mass. These analytical results are qualitatively similar to what has been found in Monte Carlo simulations of the SU(2) model.  相似文献

In the framework of the minimalSU(5) model of Georgi and Glashow the explicit couplings between the various mass eigenstate Higgs bosons and the gauge fields as well as the Higgs boson self couplings are presented. As an application bounds for the parameters of the Higgs potential and for the Higgs boson masses are derived by applying partial wave unitarity to the tree graphs of Higgs-Higgs scattering.  相似文献

In this paper we propose a possible explanation to the Fermion mass hierarchy problem by fitting the type-II seesaw mechanism into the Higgs doublet sector, such that their vacuum expectation values are hierarchal. We extend the Standard Model with two extra Higgs doublets as well as a spontaneously broken UX(1) gauge symmetry. All the fermion Yukawa couplings except that of the top quark are of O(10-2) in our model. Constraints on the parameter space of the model from low energy processes are studied. Besides, the lightest one of the neutral fermion fields, which is introduced to cancel the anomalies of the U(1)X gauge symmetry can be the cold dark matter candidate. We investigate its signature in the dark matter direct detection.  相似文献

The massless string states are constructed for a four-dimensional heterotic string model with the U(5) gauge group in the untwisted sector. The complete observable gauge group, quark and lepton generations, Higgs scalar structure, quark and lepton mass matrix, couplings to colour triplet scalars, and gauge symmetry breaking are studied for this model.  相似文献

In the extra dimensional scenarios with gauge fields in the bulk, the Kaluza-Klein (KK) gauge bosons can induce Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) type attractive fourfermion interactions, which can break electroweak symmetry dynamically with accompanying composite Higgs fields. We consider a possibility that electroweak symmetry breaking (EWSB) is triggered by both a fundamental Higgs and a composite Higgs arising in a dynamical symmetry breaking mechanism induced by a new strong dynamics. The resulting Higgs sector is a partially composite two-Higgs doublet model with specific boundary conditions on the coupling and mass parameters originating at a compositeness scale Λ. The phenomenology of this model is discussed including the collider phenomenology at LHC and ILC.   相似文献

New results are reported from large scale lattice simulations of a frequently discussed strongly interacting gauge theory with a fermion flavor doublet in the two-index symmetric (sextet) representation of the SU(3) color gauge group. We find that the chiral condensate and the mass spectrum of the sextet model are consistent with chiral symmetry breaking in the limit of vanishing fermion mass. In contrast, sextet fermion mass deformations of spectral properties are not consistent with leading conformal scaling behavior near the critical surface of a conformal theory. A recent paper could not resolve the conformal fixed point of the gauge coupling from the slowly walking scenario of a very small nearly vanishing β-function (DeGrand et al. [3]). It is argued that overall consistency with our new results is resolved if the sextet model is close to the conformal window, staying outside with a very small non-vanishing β-function. The model would exhibit then the simplest composite Higgs mechanism leaving open the possibility of a light scalar state with quantum numbers of the Higgs impostor. It would emerge as the pseudo-Goldstone dilaton state from spontaneous symmetry breaking of scale invariance. We will argue that even without association with the dilaton, the scalar Higgs-like state can be light very close to the conformal window. A new Higgs project of sextet lattice simulations is outlined to resolve these important questions.  相似文献

We study an Abelian Higgs model in three, four and five dimensions using the mean field perturbation expansion with covariant gauge fixing. In four and five dimensions the mean field analysis shows three phases; a confined phase, a Coulomb phase with massless spin waves, and a Higgs phase in which the spin waves aquire a mass. The Higgs and confined phases are shown to be connected. In three dimensions we find a single phase.  相似文献

The properties of elementary particles are encoded in their respective propagators and interaction vertices. For a SU(2) gauge theory coupled to a doublet of fundamental complex scalars these propagators are determined in both the Higgs phase and the confinement phase and compared to the Yang–Mills case, using lattice gauge theory. Since the propagators are gauge dependent, this is done in the Landau limit of the ’t Hooft gauge, permitting to also determine the ghost propagator. It is found that neither the gauge boson nor the scalar differ qualitatively in the different cases. In particular, the gauge boson acquires a screening mass, and the scalar’s screening mass is larger than the renormalized mass. Only the ghost propagator shows a significant change. Furthermore, indications are found that the consequences of the residual non-perturbative gauge freedom due to Gribov copies could be different in the confinement and the Higgs phase.  相似文献

We analyse the phenomenology of an exemplary exophobic Pati-Salam heterotic string vacuum, in which no exotic fractionally charged states exist in the massless string spectrum. Our model also contains the Higgs representations that are needed to break the gauge symmetry to that of the Standard Model and to generate fermion masses at the electroweak scale. We show that the requirement of a leading mass term for the heavy generation, which is not degenerate with the mass terms of the lighter generations, places an additional strong constraint on the viability of the models. In many models a top quark Yukawa may not exist at all, whereas in others two or more generations may obtain a mass term at leading order. In our exemplary model a mass term at leading order exist only for one family. Additionally, we demonstrate the existence of supersymmetric F- and D-flat directions that give heavy mass to all the colour triplets beyond those of the Standard Model and leave one pair of electroweak Higgs doublets light. Hence, below the Pati-Salam breaking scale, the matter states in our model that are charged under the observable gauge symmetries, consist solely of those of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model.  相似文献

It is generally believed that the low energy effective theory of the minimal supersymmetric standard model is the type 2 two Higgs doublet model. We will show that the type 1 two Higgs doublet model can also be as the effective of supersymmetry in a specific case with high scale supersymmetry breaking and gauge mediation. If the other electroweak doublet obtain the vacuum expectation value after the electroweak symmetry breaking, the Higgs spectrum is quite different. A remarkable feature is that the physical Higgs boson mass can be 125 GeV unlike in the ordinary models with high scale supersymmetry in which the Higgs mass is generally around 140 GeV.  相似文献

We discuss the CP properties of the potential in the general two-Higgs-doublet model (THDM). This is done in a concise way using real gauge invariant functions built from the scalar products of the doublet fields. The space of these invariant functions, parametrising the gauge orbits of the Higgs fields, is isomorphic to the forward light cone and its interior. CP transformations are shown to correspond to reflections in the space of the gauge invariant functions. We consider CP transformations where no mixing of the Higgs doublets is taken into account as well as the general case where the Higgs basis is not fixed. We present basis independent conditions for explicit CP violation which may be checked easily for any THDM potential. Conditions for spontaneous CP violation, that is CP violation through the vacuum expectation values of the Higgs fields, are also derived in a basis independent way.  相似文献

We construct models in which the Higgs doublet whose vacuum expectation breaks SU(2) × U(10 is a bound state of massive strongly interacting fermions. The couplings of the composite Higgs to ordinary fermions are induced by heavy gauge boson exchange in the manner of extended technicolor. Other heavy gauge bosons generate a negative mass term for the Higgs.  相似文献

The Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) distinguishes itself from other GUT's by a successful prediction of many unrelated phenomena with a minimum number of parameters. Among them: a) Unification of the gauge couplings constants; b) Unification of the b-quark and τ-lepton masses; c) Proton stability; d) Electroweak symmetry breaking at a scale far below the unification scale and the corresponding relation between the gauge boson masses and the top quark mass. A combined fit of the free parameters in the MSSM to these low energy constraints shows that the MSSM model can satisfy these constraints simultaneously. From the fitted parameters the masses of the as yet unobserved superpartners of the SM particles are predicted, the top mass is constrained to a range between 140 and 200 GeV, and the second order QCD coupling constant is required to be between 0.108 and 0.132. The complete second order renormalization group equations for the gauge and Yukawa couplings are used and analytical solutions for the neutral gauge boson, the Higgs masses and the sparticle masses are derived, taking into account the one-loop corrections to the Higgs potential.  相似文献

We study the upper limits on the mass of the lightest and second lightest CP even Higgs bosons in the (M + 1)SSM, the MSSM extended by a gauge singlet. The dominant two loop contributions to the effective potential are included, which reduce the Higgs masses by GeV. Since the coupling R of the lightest Higgs scalar to gauge bosons can be small, we study in detail the relations between the masses and couplings of both lightest scalars. We present upper bounds on the mass of a ”strongly” coupled Higgs (R < 1/2) as a function of lower experimental limits on the mass of a ”weakly” coupled Higgs (R < 1/2). With the help of these results, the whole parameter space of the model can be covered by Higgs boson searches. Received: 7 September 1999 / Published online: 12 July 2002  相似文献
