Let ? be a unital prime ring with characteristic not 2 and containing a nontrivial idempotent P. It is shown that, under some mild conditions, an additive map L on ? satisfies L([A, B]) = [L(A), B] + [A, L(B)] whenever AB = 0 (resp., AB = P) if and only if it has the form L(A) = ?(A) + h(A) for all A ∈ ?, where ? is an additive derivation on ? and h is an additive map into its center.

On Skew Triangular Matrix Rings

For a ring R, endomorphism α of R and positive integer n we define a skew triangular matrix ring T _n (R, α). By using an ideal theory of a skew triangular matrix ring T _n (R, α) we can determine prime, primitive, maximal ideals and radicals of the ring R[x; α]/ ? x ⁿ  ?, for each positive integer n, where R[x; α] is the skew polynomial ring, and ? x ⁿ  ? is the ideal generated by x ⁿ .     

Generalized Derivations and nth Power Maps in Rings

We prove that a Jordan (φ, θ)-derivation of a 2-torsion free semiprime ring, with θ an automorphism, must be a (φ, θ)-derivation. This is then used to show more generally that an additive mapping of a semiprime ring to itself that behaves like a generalized (φ, θ)-derivation on nth powers is, in fact, a generalized (φ, θ)-derivation of the ring.

We show that every unital invertibility preserving linear map from a yon Neumann algebra onto a semi-simple Banach algebra is a Jordan homomorphism; this gives an affirmative answer to a problem of Kaplansky for all yon Neumann algebras. For a unital linear map Ф from a semi-simple complex Banach algebra onto another, we also show that the following statements are equivalent: (1)Ф is an homomorphism; (2) Ф is completely invertibility preserving; (3) Ф is 2-invertibility preserving.

Topologically Irreducible Representations and Radicals in Banach Algebras

It is shown that the topologically irreducible representationsof a normed algebra define a certain topological radical inthe same way that the strictly irreducible representations definethe Jacobson radical and that this radical can be strictly smallerthan the Jacobson radical. In this paper, it is proved that every local Jordan derivation of Tn （R） is an inner derivation and that every local Jordan automorphism of Tn（R） is a Jordan automorphism. As applications, we show that local derivations and local automorphisms of Tn （R） are inner.

In this note we study radicals of skew polynomial ring R[x; α] and skew Laurent polynomial ring R[x, x ^?1; α], for a skew-Armendariz ring R. In particular, among the other results, we show that for an skew-Armendariz ring R, J(R[x; α]) = N ₀(R[x; α]) = Ni?_*(R)[x; α] and J(R[x, x ^?1; α]) = N ₀(R[x, x ^?1; α]) = Ni?_*(R)[x, x ^?1; α].
