The deformation of particle image patterns due to velocity gradients causes errors of velocity measurements and false velocity detections in PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry). A novel technique to overcome those limitations inherent in the conventional PIV by correcting the particle image pattern according to the local velocity gradients in two dimensional flows, i.e. u/x, u/y, v/x and v/y, is proposed and successfully applied to a water flow downstream of a backward facing step.  相似文献

The solution viscosity of narrow molecular weight distribution polystyrene samples dissolved in toluene and trans-decalin was investigated. The effect of polymer concentration, molecular weight and shear rate on viscosity was determined. The molecular weights lay between 5 104 and 24 106 and the concentrations covered a range of values below and above the critical valuec *, at which the macromolecular coils begin to overlap. Flow curves were generated for the solutions studied by plotting log versus log . Different molecular weights were found to have the same viscosity in the non-Newtonian region of the flow curves and follow a straight line with a slope of – 0.83. A plot of log 0 versus logM w for 3 wt-% polystyrene in toluene showed a slope of approximately 3.4 in the high molecular weight regime. Increasing the shear rate resulted in a viscosity that was independent of molecular weight. The sloped (log)/d (logM w ) was found to be zero for molecular weights at which the corresponding viscosities lay on the straight line in the power-law region.On the basis of a relation between sp and the dimensionless productc · [], simple three-term equations were developed for polystyrene in toluene andt-decalin to correlate the zero-shear viscosity with the concentration and molecular weight. These are valid over a wide concentration range, but they are restricted to molar masses greater than approximately 20000. In the limit of high molecular weights the exponent ofM w in the dominant term in the equations for both solvents is close to the value 3.4. That is, the correlation between sp andc · [] results in a sloped(log sp)/d(logc · []) of approximately 3.4/a at high values ofc · [] wherea is the Mark-Houwink constant. Summary Let denote the congruence of null geodesics associated with a given optical observer inV 4. We prove that determines a unique collection of vector fieldsM() ( =1, 2, 3) and (0) overV 4, satisfying a weak version of Killing's conditions.This allows a natural interpretation of these fields as the infinitesimal generators of spatial rotations and temporal translation relative to the given observer. We prove also that the definition of the fieldsM() and (0) is mathematically equivalent to the choice of a distinguished affine parameter f along the curves of, playing the role of a retarded distance from the observer.The relation between f and other possible definitions of distance is discussed.

On the basis of a spectral representation of the rapid part ij,2 of the correlation tensor p(u i /x j ) using Cramer's theorem the inequality ij,2(U j /x i )0 is obtained. As distinct from the realizability conditions, it can serve as a direct and very rigorous test of the adequacy of model expressions for ij,2. Summary Viscosities of polyethylene melts filled with natural calcium carbonate (NC), glass fiber (GF), and carbon fiber and polypropylene melts filled with NC, talc, and GF were examined. Constant relative viscosities r were obtained on these filled systems if use was made of the definition of r suggested in an earlier paper. The relationships between r and the volume fraction of the filler were discussed qualitatively in conjunction with earlier data. The magnitude of r for the material filled with fiber increases with the increase of the average aspect ratio of the fiber.
Zusammenfassung Es werden die Viskositäten von Polyäthylenschmelzen untersucht, die mit natürlichem Kalziumkarbonat (NC), Glasfasern (GF) und Karbonfasern, sowie von Propylenschmelzen, die mit Kalziumkarbonat, Kreide und Glasfasern gefüllt sind. Man findet bei diesen gefüllten Systemen konstante relative Viskositäten r , wenn man dafür die in einer früheren Untersuchung eingeführte Definition zugrundelegt. Die Beziehungen zwischen r und dem Volumenanteil des Füllstoffs werden unter Bezugnahme auf frühere Ergebnisse qualitativ diskutiert. Die Größe von r wächst bei den mit Fasern gefüllten Systemen mit zunehmendem Verhältnis von Länge zu Dicke der Fasern.

We consider the parametrized family of equations tt ,u- xx u-au+u 2 2 u=O,x(0,L), with Dirichlet boundary conditions. This equation has finite-dimensional invariant manifolds of solutions. Studying the reduced equation to a four-dimensional manifold, we prove the existence of transversal homoclinic orbits to periodic solutions and of invariant sets with chaotic dynamics, provided that =2, 3, 4,.... For =1 we prove the existence of infinitely many first integrals pairwise in involution.  相似文献

Let be a simply connected domain in the x 1-x 2 plane which lies within the strip 0<x 2, is a simple closed piecewise smooth curve. Let l= [(x 1, x 2): (x 1, x 2) and x 1>0], l = [(x 1 x 2): (x 1 ,x 2) and x 1>1>0].Suppose that a two-dimensional homogeneous isotropic elastic body occupies , that a self-equilibrated stress loading is applied to - l, and that l is stress-free. Knowles [2] and Flavin [6] showed that the elastic energy in l decays exponentially with respect to l with an exponential decay constant of the form k/b, where k is a universal constant. It is shown here that a decay constant of the form c/ may be obtained where c is a universal constant and is a characteristic dimension of , which is more appropriate than b for general non-striplike domains. In addition, an appropriate decay theorem is obtained for coil-like domains.  相似文献

In this second part of the paper, the Particle Image Distortion (PID) technique is described. It is proposed to overcome the limitations of conventional PIV due to the local deformations u/x, u/y, v/x and v/y in two-dimensional flows. Both simulation and experiment demonstrate that high accuracy and high spatial resolution are possible with this technique. The large time required to compute the cross-correlations, however, limits its wide applications at present.  相似文献

Development characteristics of dilute cationic surfactant solution flow have been studied through the measurements of the time characteristics of surfactant solution by birefringence experiments and of the streamwise mean velocity profiles of surfactant solution duct flow by a laser Doppler velocimetry system. For both experiments, the concentration of cationic surfactant (oleylbishydroxymethylethylammonium chloride: Ethoquad O/12) was kept constant at 1000 ppm and the molar ratio of the counter ion of sodium salicylate to the surfactants was at 1.5. From the birefringence experiments, dilute surfactant solution shows very long retardation time corresponding to micellar shear induced structure formation. This causes very slow flow development of surfactant solution in a duct. Even at the end of the test section with the distance of 112 times of hydraulic diameter form the inlet, the flow is not fully developed but still has the developing boundary layer characteristics on the duct wall. Bäcklund transformations for the equation 2 u/x1x 1+ 2u/x 2 x 2=f (u)here f is an arbitrary function) is studied in this paper, using the procedure of Wahlquist and Estabrook (WEP). We conclude that the condition d 2 f/du 2=f is sufficient for the existence of Bäcklund transformations for the equation of our interest. The paper reports the outcome of a numerical study of fully developed flow through a plane channel composed of ribleted surfaces adopting a two-equation turbulence model to describe turbulent mixing. Three families of riblets have been examined: idealized blade-type, V-groove and a novel U-form that, according to computations, achieves a superior performance to that of the commercial V-groove configuration. The maximum drag reduction attained for any particular geometry is broadly in accord with experiment though this optimum occurs for considerably larger riblet heights than measurements indicate. Further explorations bring out a substantial sensitivity in the level of drag reduction to the channel Reynolds number below values of 15 000 as well as to the thickness of the blade riblet. The latter is in accord with the trends of very recent, independent experimental studies.Possible shortcomings in the model of turbulence are discussed particularly with reference to the absence of any turbulence-driven secondary motions when an isotropic turbulent viscosity is adopted. The detailed analysis of the dynamical process of coin tossing is made. Through calculations, it is illustrated how and why the result is extremely sensitive to the initial conditions. It is also shown that, as the initial height of the mass center of the coin increases, the final configuration, i.e. head or tail, becomes more and more sensitive to the initial parameters (the initial velocity angular velocity, and the initial orientation), the coefficient of the air drag, and the energy absorption factor of the surface on which the coin bounces. If we keep the head upward initially but allow a small range for the change of some other initial parameters, the frequency that the final configuration is head, would be 1 if the initial height h of the mass center is sufficiently small, and would be clo to 1/2 if h is sufficiently large. An interesting question is how this frequency changes continuously from 1 to 1/2 as h increases. Detailed calculations show that such a transition is very similar to the transition from laminar to turbulent flows. A basic difference between the transition stage and the completely random stage is indicated: In the completely random stage, the deterministic process of the individual case is extremely sensitive to the initial conditions and the dynamical parameters, out the statistical properties of the ensemble are insensitive to the small changes of the initial conditions and the dynamical parameters. On the contrary, in the transition stage, both the deterministic process of the individual case and the statistical properties of the ensemble are sensitive to the initial conditions and the dynamical parameters. The mechanism for this feature of the transition stage is the existence of the long-train structure in the parameter space. The illuminations of this analysis on some other random phenomena are discussed.  相似文献

Zusammenfassung In diesem Bericht wird die Kraftübertragung zwischen zwei unbegrenzt ausgedehnten und durch eineMaxwell-Flüssigkeit gekoppelten Platten bei beliebigem Zeitgesetz der Bewegung der oberen auf die elastisch aufgehängte untere Platte unter Einbeziehung der Trägheit von unterer Platte undMaxwell-Flüssigkeit berechnet.Diese Fragestellung führt mathematisch auf ein Randwertproblem, dessen eine Randbedingung die Form 3 u/x 2 y + 1 u + 1 u/y – 2 2 u/xy = 0 fürx = 0 annimmt, also gemischte Ableitungen nach 2 unabhängigen Veränderlichen enthält.Es wird gezeigt, daß sich die Lösung als unendliche Reihe darstellen läßt, deren 1. Glied aus abklingenden Exponentialfunktionen, alle weiteren hingegen aus gedämpften Schwingungen bestehen.Als spezielle Zeitgesetze für die obere Platte werden die impulsförmige Erregung, die zeitproportionale und die periodische Bewegung untersucht.Es wird abgeleitet, wie sich die Kenngrößen undG (Viskosität und Schubmodul) aus Eigenfrequenz und Dämpfung bzw. aus den beiden Exponenten dere-Funktionen in den beiden ersten Fällen berechnen lassen. Bei periodischer Beanspruchung werden undG aus der Resonanzfrequenz und der Halbwertbreite bzw. dem Phasenwinkel ermittelt.Abschließend wird gezeigt, daß und wie ein Rotationsviskosimeter auf den behandelten Fall ebener Platten zurückgeführt werden kann.
Summary In this report the force transmission between two infinitely extended plates coupled by aMaxwell-Fluid is calculated. In this calculation the inertia of the fluid and the influence of the elastically suspended lower plate is included, while the upper plate can perform any time-dependent movement.Mathematically this question leads to a boundery value problem; one boundery condition has the form 3 u/ 2 y + 1 u + 1 u/y – 2 2 u/xy = 0 (x = 0) ( 1, 2, = constant), that means it contains mixed differential-quotients of two independent variables.The solution is demonstrated as an infinite series, the form of the first term is of two negative exponential functions, all the other terms are damped oscillations.The excitation from a single pulse, the uniform timeproportional and the periodic movement as timedependent laws for the upper plate are analysed.The values of andG (viscosity and shear modulus) are derived from eigenfrequency and damping-constant respectively from the values of the two exponentials. In the periodic case andG are calculated from the resonance frequency and halfwidth or phase-angle respectively.Finally the conditions of the rotation-viscometer are reduced to the case of parallel-plate-viscometer.

In this paper we continue previous studies of the closure problem for two-phase flow in homogeneous porous media, and we show how the closure problem can be transformed to a pair of Stokes-like boundary-value problems in terms of pressures that have units of length and velocities that have units of length squared. These are essentially geometrical boundary value problems that are used to calculate the four permeability tensors that appear in the volume averaged Stokes' equations. The harmonic content of the nonlinear dynamic behaviour of 1% polyacrylamide in 50% glycerol/water was studied using a standard Model R 18 Weissenberg Rheogoniometer. The Fourier analysis of the Oscillation Input and Torsion Head motions was performed using a Digital Transfer Function Analyser.In the absence of fluid inertia effects and when the amplitude of the (fundamental) Oscillation Input motion I is much greater than the amplitudes of the Fourier components of the Torsion Head motion Tn empirical nonlinear dynamic rheological propertiesG n (, 0),G n (, 0) and/or n (, 0), n (, 0) may be evaluated without a-priori-knowledge of a rheological constitutive equation. A detailed derivation of the basic equations involved is presented.Cone and plate data for the third harmonic storage modulus (dynamic rigidity)G 3 (, 0), loss modulusG 3 (, 0) and loss angle 3 (, 0) are presented for the frequency range 3.14 × 10–2 1.25 × 102 rad/s at two strain amplitudes, CP 0 = 2.27 and 4.03. The qualitative behavior of solutions of the mixed problem utt = u-a(x)ut in IR x , u=0 on IR x , is studied in the case when a>0 and IRn is bounded. Roughly speaking, if aamin>0, then solutions decay at least as fast as exp t( –1/2amin), with the possible exception of a finite dimensional set of smooth solutions whose existence is associated with a phenomenon of overdamping.
